Chapter 1
Assassins aren't born, they're made.
That's what I was told.
But they were wrong.
Assassins can be born.
I was one.
"Python, you are banned from my venom class!" My teacher had hissed, after I had spat at a stupid dragon. "You know this! Don't attack others!"
That was the last thing he said, before I spat in his face.
Now I'm banned from the rainforest.
No, not banned.
Exiled.
Why would rainwings even have venom if we can't use it?
Now here I was, flying to find Scarlet to become her next assassin. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of red colors flying toward a cave. I camouflaged my scales and followed the dragon.
"Where is that blasted Rainwing?!" The dragon's feminine voice hissed. She landed next to the cave and stared at the night sky, a huff of smoke flared from her nostrils.
I landed in front of her and changed my scales back to my brown self. The red dragon glanced at me and sniffed.
"Not the Rainwing I meant." She said, turning her head to the left. I stared at her melted grotesque face.
I nearly smirked.
She caught me staring and threw her head around.
"Do you find this funny?!" She hissed.
"Of course not." I snorted. "But the dragon who gave you that nasty scar might have had a laugh."
The red skywing pounced on me and pinned me down. I grunted as I fell to the ground.
"Who's laughing now?" She hissed in my ear. I hissed, bearing my fangs. She stared at my fangs in horror.
"I'll do it." I grunted. "I'm not looking for trouble, I'm looking for Scarlet."
The red dragon slammed me to the cold ground, hard.
"Why? So you can kill me?!" She hissed.
"No, you wanted an assassin. You're looking at her." I gritted through my teeth.
Scarlet slowly got up. "I'm in no mood for jokes."
"And I assure you, I'm not kidding." I snarled, standing up. "I've killed plenty of dragons."
"Can you kill one of your own kind?" She asked, curious.
"Like I said, I've killed plenty of dragons."
Scarlet swished her tail then grinned, holding out her talons. "Then welcome."
I grinned, taking her talons and shook.
"What's your name?" She smirked.
"Python."
She nodded, her tail lashing like she learned something to her advantage. She took her talons away and looked back up at the sky, scowling.
"About time.." She grumbled.
I looked in the direction she was looking and saw a nightwing, with chain-like jewelry around his neck, flying toward us. I frowned and stood behind Scarlet.
"Queen Scarlet." The nightwing said, bowing as he landed. He looked up and his eyes caught me. He stared at me for a long time.
"Shapeshifter, this is Python. She'll be helping us. There is no need for you to hide your identity." Scarlet grinned.
The nightwing, called Shapeshifter, stood up straight. He huff, a puff of smoke floated into the air. He reached for the necklace around his neck and pulled it off.
I gasped.
His black scales slowly turned green. He shrunk down and his tail grew long.
The nightwing that once stood in front of me slowly turned into a green rainwing.
A rainwing I knew.
Chameleon.
My father.
