Logan remained composed as his wife of a year began experiencing labor pains, Rory on the other hand was filled with nerves. He gathered their hospital bag, which had been conveniently placed by the front door for the past three weeks as she explained to him the nursery wasn't ready, it wasn't perfect. Promptly, he arranged for a car to transport them to the hospital, promising the nursery and everything else was perfect and that it was ready. He assisted Rory with the breathing techniques they had learned at their Lamaze classes on the way there, rubbing her hand trying to do everything in his power to keep her calm.
Lorelai, Rory's mother, rushed to the hospital within the first hour of their arrival, accompanied by Emily and Richard . However, Logan couldn't locate Rory's father, as his phone call went unanswered though he did leave him a voicemail. During the sixth hour, Logan's mother and father arrived, his sister soon after. She apologized for not coming sooner, needing to wait for her husband to come home to take care of their child.
Logan didn't start to panic until the seventeenth hour. Rory, on the other hand, remained calm and insisted that he take a much-needed ten-minute break outside of the room, assuring him that she was in capable hands with her mother and grandmother. She promised that her mother would go get him if anything were to change. Even after seventeen hours of labor, Rory was trying to take care of him.
"Labor experiences differ for each person, Logan," Honor reminded him, handing her younger brother a cup of coffee as they both took a seat in the chairs that were placed across the hall of Rory's private room. "Remember that my labor lasted only two hours, easy peasy with your niece while yours with mom took an entire day. Rory is being cared for by top-notch doctors, they are watching her like a hawk. Everything will be. They both will be fine, I promise."
Logan takes a grateful sip of the coffee, feeling fortunate that Honor had made the trip to be there for him, as his parents were not the most comforting people. Throughout his life, Honor had been more than just a sister; she had been his best friend, a mother figure, a person he knew he could always count on and someone who never let him down.
Taking a deep breath, Logan musters the courage to ask the question that he and Rory had been contemplating for days, something they haven't been able to ask her yet. "Honor, Rory and I want to seek your permission for something," he begins, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "We want to name our daughter after you. Lorelai Honor Huntzberger."
Honor's eyes widen, a tear forming at the corner. "Are you serious, Logan?" she manages to say, her voice filled with emotion. "Of course, I would never say no to such an incredible honor. It would mean the world to me to share my name with my niece."
"I'm feeling really nervous, Honor," Logan confessed. "I thought I was ready, but now that it's close and it's almost time for her arrival." He sighs softly, confessing feelings he hasn't allowed himself to say out loud yet. "I'm about to become a father, responsible for a whole other human being– a tiny one at that. I want to be a good father, better than our own father was to us."
"I completely understand your nerves, Logan," Honor empathized. "Becoming a father is a huge responsibility, and it's natural to worry about being the best you can be for your child. But let me assure you, you have what it takes to be an amazing father, even better than our own father was to us."
Providing words of encouragement, Honor continued, "Just as you've shown your unwavering love and dedication as a husband, I have no doubt that you will do the same as a father. You will be present for your daughter, never allowing work to overshadow your role in her life. Yes, parenting can be challenging at times, but believe me, the incredible moments far outweigh the difficulties and will fill your heart with immeasurable joy."
She offered her wise advice, saying, "Remember to approach each day gradually, relishing in the precious moments you share as a family. Effective communication is vital, so be sure to express your needs and truly listen when Rory needs a break. Parenthood is a journey meant to be experienced together, and you and Rory will navigate it together, the two of you leaning on each other to be the best parents you can be."
Logan is thankful to hear his sister's words, that someone else besides his wife thought he would be a good father. "Thank you, Honor."
"There's no need to thank me, Logan. I'm just reminding you of the things that you already know."
Lorelai opens the door to Rory's room. "Logan! She's asking for you."
Logan's face lights up with a mix of excitement and nervousness as he stands up from the couch. "I'll go right in, thank you, Lorelai," he says with gratitude.
As he walks towards Rory's room, Honor follows closely behind. "Remember what we talked about, Logan," she whispers, giving him an encouraging smile. "You've got this."
It happened quickly after the doctor came in, Logan keeping quiet as Rory screamed, squeezing his hand and what it felt like almost breaking it. Their families were in the waiting room down the hall, anxiously awaiting news of the newest Huntzberger arrival. Logan tried his best to stay calm, knowing that his role was to support Rory during this intense and painful process.
As the doctor and nurses guided Rory through each contraction, Logan remained by her side, offering words of encouragement and comforting touches. He could see the sweat forming on her forehead, the determination in her eyes, and he couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and admiration for his wife's strength.
Time seemed to blur as the intensity of labor increased. Logan watched as Rory pushed with all her might, her face contorted with effort. He held her hand tightly, whispering words of love and encouragement into her ear, assuring her that incredible job she was doing.
And then, with one final push, a cry filled the room. Logan's heart leaped with joy, his eyes welling up with tears. "You did it, Ace." He tells her right away, giving a soft smile.
The doctor placed their tiny, beautiful baby girl on Rory's chest, and the room was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and relief. "Congratulations, mommy and daddy." The doctor announces.
Logan leaned in to kiss Rory's forehead, a mix of tears and smiles on both of their faces. They had brought their daughter into the world together, and in that moment, the couple felt they could take on the world. The pain and exhaustion of labor were quickly overshadowed by the profound joy of becoming parents.
As Logan looked down at his exhausted, but radiant wife and their precious daughter, he felt a surge of overwhelming love and a newfound sense of purpose. He was now a father, and he was determined to be the best one he could possibly be, making a silent promise that he would be the best person he could be for the two women he loved so deeply.
"You should go inform everyone," Rory whispered, her gaze fixed on the precious bundle of joy nestled in her arms.
"Give me a moment, I can't leave yet," Logan responded. He longed for a few moments of solitude, reveling in the bliss of their newfound family. Then, he would make his way down the corridor to inform their eager family members about the arrival of their healthy baby girl. "Lorelai Honor Huntzberger," he added, stating their daughter's name with pride. "You are already so loved."
