Chapter 5
When the plane landed there were three figures waiting for the plane to touch down. Clint went pass the three, nodding respectfully to Thor but didn't stop. He had Natasha to update, paperwork to do and a wife to please over the phone. Besides if he hung around Loki he'll shot him in the heart. Maybe he'll go visit his family. He was due leave anyway.
Napi stood next to Thor and Loki as the two brothers bickering in their heads. Sif went to Asgard to report to the Queen on how her sons were fairing. His arms were akimbo, he dressed as his brother Napi did in Steve Trevor's universe to gauge the man's memories and sharpness.
Steve Rogers walked out of the plane somehow getting suckered into holding his uncle's box of heirloom treasure. Luckily he saved the box from being squashed against Trevor's back when he stopped unannounced, almost in shock, Steve thought as he sidestepped his statue of a uncle.
He soon realized why as Uncle Trevor, who he insisted Steve call him, either that or old man Steve. Steve still didn't know if Uncle Trevor was talking about him or himself with that comment.
"Chief?!"
Napi winced inwardly at the sudden hope that welled up in the misplaced man's voice. But the hope turned to wariness.
"Who are you." Steve found his hand on his new firearm that he carried with him. He found himself slipping into interrogation mode as he stared at the man that reminded him of Chief but something about him didn't ring right. A twin perhaps but not the Chief he knew.
Napi held up his hands as he blurred his clothes back to the long gray cloak and simple shirt and pants he had when Loki and company cornered him, or he let them corner him.
"Peace Steve Trevor. I have come to confirm what my brother had passed on to me. I am Napi, the trickster," ignoring Loki's low sputtering beside him of 'a trickster, not the'. "You knew my brother as Chief, during your WW1, I am he of this universe. My brother sent me his impressions of you when you passed into this world. I see that he wasn't mistaken to fall into your company."
To everyone's shock Trevor snorted relaxing slightly a easiness in his body that wasn't there before. "Oh yeah you are a relative of Chief but you're not Chief. Your hair is shorter then his and there's a slight" Trevor couldn't pinpoint what was different enough to know that this Napi was chief but wasn't Chief.
Napi nodded slowly. "We are who we are in what way the world needs us to be. You been touched by your gods in your dimension so you instinctively know the difference. It will serve you well later in life."
"Why are you here?" Steve butted in, curious and protective of his uncle. He also wanted to put the box down, not that it was heavy but it wouldn't be good to use as a weapon in case he needed one. Trevor would give him another black eye if he did so.
"Chief sent along another part of his memories that might let us understand how Steve Trevor slipped between worlds and not blown up in the plane back in 1918. We needed Napi to confirm the energy on Steve Trevor's body. Hence Loki."
"Does it matter where you confirm this energy?" Steve asked glaring at Loki, who smirked back at him and then grimaced at Thor's silent 'behave'. Thor was always loud even in his mind.
Loki glared at his brother as he answered. "No. We just have to do it quickly because your S.H.I.E.L.D. people are getting restless with me being here." Loki said, he constantly found himself scanning the compound. He didn't have such a warm welcome last time, he frowned inwardly at a sensation he was getting from a few agents. Strange that.
"So do I sit down or something?" Trevor asked as Natasha walked up and took the box from a grateful Steve bringing it inside.
"Might be best so that way if Thor accidentally drops you, which he won't, you won't hurt yourself too badly." Napi said grinning a little at the slight alarm that faded into a playful glare on Trevor's face. Steve always knew how to take a joke.
Napi was silent as he watched the lightening flicker up and down Steve Trevor's body as he was sitting about a foot off the ground. He hummed tunelessly as Thor started to finish his last hammer cycle. Before he could speak, Sif came from the bi-frost, along with another person.
Napi's eyes widened at the short stocky white haired lady as she took in the scene with still sharp eyes. 'Now this was interesting.'
Sif quickly unleashed her sword at the unexpected person who only scoffed saying, "What with people and pointing their swords at me? You're pretty but you're no Diana."
"Etta?" Steve Trevor breathed, eyes widened in shock.
