Chapter 43
A Waiting Game
A few days have passed and none of the UA Students that were part of the mission couldn't focus. Freya wasn't sleeping. She even seemed to be staying away from Bakugo and staying with the girls or Kirishima and Izuku. They talked about the mission in their rooms. Kirishima saw the bags under his friends eyes.
"I just keeping having nightmares of the girl getting cut open. It's just. Horrifying." Freya told Kirishima when he asked. Kirishima and her would play video games into the night to keep her mind occupied. It seemed to be pissing Bakugo off his girlfriend was avoiding him. Freya feared she would break down in front of him and spill everything. She was happy she had Izuku, Uraraka, Tsu, and Kirishima to talk to. The girls were in the same boat. Freya hated that a little girl was being hurt for something that could affect the heroes around the world if the complete product got through.
Bakugo sat in one of the classes. He looked at Freya and eyes widen as she had her head burried on her arms and she was fast asleep. Izuku was looking out the window and not paying attention. Kirishima was shooting Freya worried looks. Bakugo turns and goes to kick her chair.
"Don't." Bakugo looked up. Aizawa stood there. He even looked more tired then normal. "Let her sleep."
"What's wrong with her?" Bakugo said.
"Its something with work studies and its worrying her. She'll be fine. Just let her sleep before the training." Aizawa said. Bakugo shot her a worried look. She was never like this with avoiding and he found her hanging with Kirishima, Izuku, Uraraka, and Tsu more then him and the others. Bakugo took a look at her. He saw the bags under her eyes. They were worse then her father. He wished she would talk to him.
In the gym. Freya was wide awake as her, Izuku, Kirishima, Uraraka, and Tsu climb a wall. Freya and Izuku were leading the way. Freya pulled herself up onto the top first with Izuku right behind her. Freya pushed her black hair out of her face. Bakugo was getting annoyed.
"You can really tell who's started their work studies, huh?" Jiro asked. Bakugo let out a growl.
"They picked up some tricks while they were away from here." Bakugo said. He moved forward and pointed at them. "Hey! What have you guys been learning? Tell me!"
"Sorry, we can't." Kirishima said. Freya looked down at Bakugo with a look of tiredness on her face. Bakugo looked up at her. A memory came back from when they all sat talking to Mr. Aizawa.
That day.
"Don't get too worked up about this. The Big Three are one thing. They're strong enough to hold their own out there with the Pros. But the rest of you will be minimally involved. Freya, Asui, Uraraka, Kirishima. You didn't volunteer for this, and you're not obligated to participate. It's your call." Aizawa said.
"I'm helping. Especially when a kid is involved." Freya said, standing up. Aizawa wasn't surprised with his daughter. She loved kids. He nodded. Uraraka stood up.
"Mr... I mean, Eraser Head! After everything that we just heard, I can't imagine not helping out, sir." Uraraka said.
"Yeah, if you're gonna let us be part of this, I'd like to pinch in however I can." Tsu said.
"The heroes asked you to be in that meeting. I don't think they would've wanted you guys to be there if they didn't recognize your abilities. I mean, I've seen for myself that a first year can shine much brighter than me." Amajiki said.
"You're gonna have to let that go at some point, ya know." Hado said, earning a chuckle from Freya. Kirishima slammed his fists together.
"If I can use my power to help that girl, even a little bit, then count me in, Eraser Head!" Kirishima said. Aizawa saw the determined looks on Freya and his friends. He nods.
"As long as you all understand. Our scope here is limited. For now, our only goal is to rescue Eri. We won't step in further than that. Given the recent altercation, neither the police nor Nighteye believe that the League of Villains and the Shie Hassaikai have formed a partnership. So the chances are relatively low that the League will be involved in this raid. But if it turns out they're mistaken about that, and the League does end up putting in an appearance, you guys are out." Everyone nodded.
"Understood, sir." The group said.
Present Day. Freya did lunch with her dad, wanting to talk to him. Freya carried her food tray into her father's office, having ignored her friends calls.
"This is really starting to effect you isn't it?" Aizawa asked as they ate. Freya didn't look at him. "Kid, you fell asleep in class and your avoiding Bakugo, which you haven't done. He's worried."
"I.. I'm just afraid of spilling everything to him. I don't want to compromise my first mission." Freya said. Aizawa got what she was saying.
"And your boyfriend is to stubborn to listen. Just don't push him away like you are. It's making you both miserable. You got the others you can talk to and it seems to be helping." Aizawa said.
"I won't dad. I want to see this mission through like everyone else." Freya said. Aizawa chuckled.
"I'm sure you will." Aizawa said.
Later that night. Kirishima and Kaminari were coming down for dinner.
"Will you just tell me what's going on? You been avoiding me for four days already!" Bakugo said. Kirishima got worried and came around to see Freya and Bakugo facing each other. Freya wouldn't even look at Bakugo. She was just heading to bed to try and sleep. "You more want to hang out with the other sidekicks then your own boyfriend. Just talk to me. That's all I want. I hate you ignorning me."
"I can't. I can't talk to you what's bothering me." Freya said, rubbing her temple.
"She's talking about the mission, isn't she?" Kaminari asked.
"Yes." Kirishima said.
"Fine. Come find me after this mission is complete since you want to talk to your friends but not let me be there when things get rough!" Bakugo growled. He stormed out. Freya was in tears.
"Bakugo really." Kirishima growled as Freya ran for the bathrooms. Kirishima went after Bakugo as Uraraka and Tsu, who had been watching, went after Freya. Bakugo was standing out in the courtyard, looking at the sky. Bakugo ran a hand through his messy hair. It was stressing him out that she wouldn't talk or tell something. He knew she couldn't tell of mission, but least tell him what was bothering her.
"Will you leave her alone. She's going through a lot with this." Kirishima said.
"Oh so your defending her on this? Freya talks to you over me. I get its a mission but still. I want to be there for her. I hate not knowing what's bothering her." Bakugo said. Kirishima was surprised to see a change in his voice.
"It involves a kid. That's all I can say with mission. You know how she is with kids. Its been tearing her up inside. She's just afraid she's gonna spill everything about the mission. My room is an escape because she's good at the video games we play plus we can talk and the girls are also having issues. But you yelling at her like you did finally broke her. You better go an apoligize." Kirishima said with a glare. Bakugo swore under his breath.
'A kid? No wonder she couldn't sleep and why she passed out in class a few times. I'm so stupid.' Bakugo thought. It annoyed him how she was so good with kids. He wasn't sure if he wanted any in the future, but maybe with Freya, Bakugo was considering it.
"Kirishima." Bakugo and Kirishima turn to see Uraraka running towards them with a worried look on her face. "I need you to come get Freya. She's trying to drown herself in the shower and won't come out. Kaminari is keeping Mineta from going in to rescue her." Bakugo stopped Kirishima from going.
"I'll get her. Now I kind of know what's bothering her, I can least try and help get her to sleep." Bakugo said. Kirishima nodded. Uraraka gave him a look. "I'm not gonna be harsh on her, Pink Checks. I'm probably gonna be the only one to get her out."
"Just let him. Or he'll do it with us stopping him." Kirishima said. Bakugo stormed into the dorms. Izuku was heading past.
"Move out my way, Deku." Bakugo growled.
"Yes!" Izuku squeaked.
"Geez. He was trying to help Freya get out as well, but no luck." Tsu said.
"I don't care. He's in my way." Bakugo growled. He stepped into the girls bathroom. Kirishima and the girls stay outside. Bakugo followed the sound of the water. Freya was letting the water run down her back as she sat under the water, letting herself have time to think.
"Brat." Freya looked up to see Bakugo standing in the door. He had a worried look on his face. He came in and knelt in front of her. "I don't care if you can't tell me much, but least tell me what's bothering you. Just let me stay with you so you can sleep. I hate seeing you fall asleep." Freya looked away. "Kirishima told me a kid is involved and I know you like kids." Bakugo held out his hand. Freya sighed and took it.
After drying off and getting food in her. Bakugo laid in her bed. Freya came out in shorts and a tshirt. Her hair was still damp. Freya picked up her phone and saw no new message.
"Your still on standbye?" Bakugo asked.
"For now yes. Hoping we get word soon." Freya said as she crawled into bed next to him. Bakugo pulled her into a hug, pressing a kiss to her head. "I'm sorry for worrying you."
"Just promise me you won't do this again and soon as its over you'll tell me what happened?" Bakugo asked.
"I will." Freya said.
"Get some sleep, Brat." Bakugo said.
It was Midnight when Freya's phone went off. Bakugo growled as Freya pulled away from him to grab her phone. She rubbed her eyes and looked at her phone. Freya shot up.
"What is it?" Bakugo grumbled.
"Its the mission. It's a go. I'll be right back. I'm to meet the others soon as we get the message." Freya said, kissing his check. Freya hurried to the common area. Kirishima, Izuku, Tsu, and Uraraka were waiting.
"Alright. You, too?" Kirishima said, looking at all of them. Freya yawned and nodded along with Uraraka.
"We got it." Tsu said.
"It's happening." Izuku said. Freya gripped her phone tight.
'Hold on Eri. We're coming for you.' Freya thought.
AN: And rescuse mission is in next chapter. Till next time.
