Chapter 47
Controlling the Kids
A kid with a cannon in his mouth shot a missile at the heroes and smoke rises. The building shakes. Freya grabbed the chair in front of her from falling.
"Uh, what? Kids these days are stupid strong! How is this even possible, huh?" Present Mic asked. Freya looked at the kids to see them all smirking. "Back when I was their age, I was just learning how to get my yell working. Having this much power when you're just a tyke should be illegal.
"I think I know." Freya said. Present Mic looked at Freya. Freya stood up straight. "As the generations pass, Quirks combine and become more powerful. Hypothetically, stronger, more compiles Quirks may one day become to hard for anyone to control, especially untrained children." Shishikura nodded in agreement.
"Quirk singularity doomsday. That's what they call that theory. These kids make me fearful that this is indeed our future." Shishikura said. Freya couldn't help but agree.
"I'm sorry! Please forgive me! It's all my fault!" The teacher sobbed. The teacher stood up to leave, but Present Mic grabbed her arm.
"Wait, don't leave now! Stay. This jam is just getting started." Present Mic said. He looked at Freya. "Don't use your Erase Quirk. Let's see what happens." Freya bit her lip but nodded.
"Yes, uncle." Freya said, sitting down. Present Mic looked at the trainees.
"Let's see how they react." Present Mic said. Balls and other items of Quirks go flying towards the trainees. They block them with their Quirks.
"Pretty bold of them to attack without hesitation like that. I'm almost impressed." Bakugo said.
"They know that we're hero trainees. They likely feel they don't need to hold back against us." Todoroki said.
"It's so sad! I wanna be their friend." Yoarashi said. He had tears in his eyes. "Even if it wasn't part of our training." Bakugo glares at the kids.
"No way. They're no scared of our Quirks at all? Seriously?" A kid said. The kids looked nervous.
"They think they're better than us just because they are older." Freya looked at the kid. He hadn't moved from the wall. Freya felt like he was the leader of these kids.
"Come on, everyone. Let's show them more of what we've got." The kid said. A girl stepped forward.
"Leave it up to me! Queen Beam, shoot!" The girl said. A heart forms on her head and it shoots at Todoroki. Todoroki came out of the smoke with sparkles.
"Hey." Todoroki said. He held out his hand to the girl. "Wow. You've got such a beautiful face, dear." Freya made a confused face. "Don't let that frown spoil the effect." The girl gasps with her hands to her face with pure delight. Todoroki disappears and Camie is standing there with her hand to her mouth. Freya gasped as a poof of white smoke comes out of her mouth.
"Sorry, hon, just a little illusion for you." Camie said, touching her hat.
'Illusion Quirk. That's neat. I'll have to let Deku know about that. He'll want to learn more.' Freya thought. The girl gasped in horror.
"Wouldn't it be, like, so swoony though? Our school's mega old-fashioned and doesn't even allow us to go on dates. Ugh, it's just the worst." Camie said. Bakugo and Freya shot each other looks; glad they didn't go to that school. The girl tried an attack on Bakugo. Bakugo came out, laughing. He held out his hand to the girl.
"You've got such a beautiful face, my dear." Bakugo said.
The real Bakugo after the illusion one disappears stood laughing.
"That killed me, Glamouroki!" Bakugo said. Freya couldn't help but laugh. "Seriously, I might die." Todoroki stood with his hand to his chin, thinking.
"Oh? I dunno, was it really all that funny." Todoroki said as Bakugo laughed. Yoarashi jumps in front of the two.
"Anyway. Let's do the thing we were talking about before, guys!" Yoarashi said. Freya was watching the kid as the four planned something. The kid looked like he was in a panic.
'Hmm.' Freya thought. A wind suddenly comes and sweeps the kids up. It was coming from Yoarashi.
"You kids are amazing, I give you that. Thing is, there's more to heroing than just power!" Yoarashi said. He had his one hand on the ground. "Here I go!"
"Right." Todoroki said, moving forward.
"It's so lame that we can't do this outside." Camie said, reaching up to her mouth. "Ugh, whateves." She blew out some smoke and it turned into aurora lights. Freya smiled. Ice formed on rocks that were lifted into the air and formed what looked like slides. Kids land on the top of the slide and started sliding down. Kids were yelling and laughing in delight. Todoroki tossed a ball of fire at the hoops around the slides, and they caught fire.
"Amazing!" A kid yells.
"I didn't know these guys could do this!"
"What the heck did they do to this place? I'm loving it."
"I can't make complex structures out of my ice yet, so I used the object you made as a frame for my design. Fortunately, you have some amazing powers." Todoroki said. Bakugo stood with his arms crossed.
"Hey, I wanna do it, too. No fair!"
"I wanna try the slide."
"Alright. Line up. Freya. Want to come help." Todoroki called. Freya jumped down and walked over.
"Your very pretty." Freya smiled as the kids lined up. Freya used her force spears to lift a kid up. Bakugo watched with a small smile as Freya talked to the kids and lifted them one at a time to the slide.
"Playing instead of attacking. In order to create a bond between them without breaking anyone's spirit." Shishikura said, impressed.
"Rocking use of your Quirks, you guys. Thank you, Freya, for helping them out." Present Mic said. Freya sent a smile at her uncle. "I was starting to sweat. Bakugo approached the Leader of the kids. The kid gasped.
"You, too. Get in there and have some fun." Bakugo said. Freya watched Bakugo. Bakugo grabbed the kid's arm.
"Whata are you doing? Get your hands off of me! You think I'm impressed by this?" The Leader said.
"You're their leader, aren't you, kid?" Bakugo said. Freya saw a softness on his face. "If you keep looking down on everyone else, you'll never be able to see your own weaknesses. I learned that the hard way, but I found someone that keeps me in mind." Bakugo looked at Freya and saw her smiling at him. "That's just some advice from one of your elders, so don't forget it. Now get in line. My girlfriend is waiting for you." Bakugo dragged the kid over. Freya lifted the boy up and set him up by the slide. Bakugo wrapped his arm around Freya. "After seeing all these kids, you still want a few."
"I think I want 10 of them." Freya said. Bakugo's eyes widen. "I'm joking. I want five at least." Bakugo chuckled. "Not anytime soon."
"Your father would kill us. I still don't want them yet." Bakugo said. Freya pouted. "Don't get your hopes up, Brat."
"Too late." Freya said. Bakugo let out a groan. Kids come running to Freya wanting to just ride around on the spears and Freya complied. Not one of the teachers had issues with Freya joining her friends to help with the kids. Present Mic smiled. Endeavor and All Might watched the kids. Todoroki was showing his flame off to the kids. Bakugo was talking to some kids.
The end of class.
"Work together and win the hearts. You did a good job despite having such vague instructions." Gang Orca said.
"Wait, so you did that on purpose?" Bakugo and Yoarashi said.
"The rest of you also did well. Freya." Freya looked up from her phone. "You already got your license, but you came to help the kids have some fun. They really attached to you. Thank you for the help." Freya smiled.
"Thank you, Gang Orca." Freya said.
"Remember everything you learned today. And keep working. You students have so much potential... Uh." Gang Orca said. He suddenly got strict. "I mean, don't you dare fail!"
"Sir, yes, sir." Trainees said.
"He's actually a big softy who loves kids." Present Mic explained as Freya looked questionly at Gang Orca. "This is just for show.
The sun was setting as everyone stood waiting for the students. All Might was talking to the Shiketsu teacher.
"Your really good with your Quirk. You have two of them?" Shishikura asked.
"I do. I have the force quirk and then the Erase Quirk." Freya explained.
"Your Eraser Head's daughter?" Shishikura asked.
"I do." Freya said. The door opens and Freya turned to see her friends come out with Yoarashi and Camie. Camie ran towards them.
"Ooh, what's going on, Shishikura? You schmoozing with All Might." Camie asked. Bakugo walked up to Freya.
"Hey. Good work today. It was nice to see a change." Freya said. Bakugo smiled.
"It was nice to see you smile after what happened to you. Glad you came." Bakugo said.
"Seriously, the Symbol? What were you talking about?" Camie pestered. "Like, Hero stuff or what?"
"We were talking about you. Fool!" Shishikura said.
"For realizes? That's sweet." Camie said.
"The reality is that by attacking you the League went after a school other than UA. Up until now, our schools haven't had an especially close relationship with each other. But we were talking about coordinating in the future for the sake of sharing information. We still don't know why you were targeted, Miss Utsushimi. But hopefully we'll get a better idea of what the villains want." The teacher said.
"Cray-cray." Camie said.
"Additionally, this means we can organize joint training exercises someday." Shishikura said.
"That be fun." Freya said. Bakugo nodded.
"Next time, I'll beat you up one-on-one." Bakugo said. Shishikura got in his face.
"You still behave and speak like a back-alley thug, you hoodlum." Shishikura said. Freya sighed. "Remember your place!" Bakugo glared at him and sighed.
"Yeah, you don't get to be the one to tell me that." Bakugo said, wrapping an arm around Freya.
"Shoto." Freya looked to see Endeavor approach Todoroki. "Long time no see. You've changed quite a bit." Endeavor goes to put a hand on his son's shoulder and Todoroki slapped it away.
"Not interested." Todoroki said. Endeavor stared at his son and clenched his fist.
"Shoto." Endeavor said. There was a calmness on his face. There was no anger. "I want you to know I'm proud of you, son. Because of that, I swear I'll become someone you can be proud of, too. Not just as the number-one hero, but as the man that you call father." Todoroki turned and put his hand to the back of his neck.
"I don't care what you do." Todoroki said, not looking at his father. Yoarashi punched himself in the face. He walked up to Endeavor.
"Endeavor! Just so you know." Yoarashi said. His nose was bleeding. "I'll be rooting for you."
"All of us will." Freya said. Endeavor smiled at both of them. Bakugo just glared.
"Thanks a lot." Endeavor said. He looked at Yoarashi. "Also, you're bleeding." They said their goodbyes. Freya and Bakugo walked together to the bus. Freya looked out the window as they headed to UA.
'It was a good day and good distraction. It's what I needed.' Freya said. Bakugo was listening to music on his earphones. Freya laid her head on his shoulder. Bakugo laid his head on hers as they enjoyed the bus ride home.
