Hello everyone it's been quite some time hasn't it? Yeah I held off on writing any stories since I now have new responsibilities and all but I had this idea in my head and wanted it to see how this would fair. I did have an interest in some of the Shield Hero anime and fanfiction. Though I have to admit some of the other heroes could use a slap on the head especially someone who actually had experience with war and death. Motoyasu especially, but after looking back at FMAB I think maybe introducing Edward Elric to this world would turn quite a few heads. Without further ado….
Fullmetal Spear Hero
Chapter 1: Save One World Save Another.
It had been a devastating battle; casualties were numerous on both sides, and yet for the first time in years, the country of Amestris would be at peace. The trials he had faced with those whom he had loved and cherished stood by his side. Both old allies, new allies, enemies became friends and conflict had a chance to settle.
But at what cost?
Edward looked around himself at the devastation in the courtyard of Central Command as his friends, and soldiers of Briggs stood exhausted and a number of them still bleeding from wounds. Some inflicted from late furor King Bradley, his own league of men and from the head Homunculus: Father they called him.
It had been labeled as the Promised Day by the Homunculi. For what reason, they had no idea, but after gathering clues from all over the country they began to put together what these clues left behind by their friends and family what the homunculi were aiming for.
Four hundred years prior, the dwarf in the flask manipulated the king and nobles of Xerxes into constructing a giant circle around the city. The king had been searching for a way to extend his power and obtain immortality and ensure that his reign lasted forever. What the king didn't know was that he needed to perform the transmutation on the day of a solar eclipse and stand at what was considered the center of the world to be given immortality. The king did this as was instructed but he as well as the city of Xerxes were all deceived by the dwarf. The king wasn't standing in the center of the world but rather in the exact spot the dwarf in the flask and the slave that was a younger Hohenhiem. So instead of the king obtaining immortality both Hohenhiem and the dwarf became immortal. The Dwarf had obtained a human form of his own similar to the form of the slave he had been made from. The transmutation had made the two of them both immortal and far more powerful than any human.
Of course this was not enough for the dwarf in the flask. No he wanted more.
The world progressed and the country of Amestris was born, though there was even work done behind the scenes.
The homunculi had spread, ever expanding on both their influence and their power. Not only in death and destruction but to further the dwarf's original plan: to become God.
Ed's father, the actual Hohenheim and antithesis of the dwarf in the flask had made several trips all over the country since the boy was little; in any way possible, to hinder the dwarf's plans. This led to Ed and his brother growing up without a parent since his mom had died from an illness.
Alphonse.
His little brother, the one who had been with him through thick and thin was gone. He had sacrificed himself back to the gate in order to give Edward his arm back and a fighting chance against the head of the homunculi.
Everyone had banded together, humans, chimera, and homunculus Greed/Ling had fought against the Dwarf and ended up exhausting the dwarf in the flask to the point that he could no longer hold God. This however brought everyone to the state of exhaustion.
Alphonse, Ed couldn't begin to describe the anguish he was experiencing after losing Alphonse for a second time. He flew into a rage and used every last bit of energy to turn the tide against his adversary.
The dwarf in the flask went after greed to retrieve his philosopher's stone to replenish his own since Hohenheim used up nearly 100% of the power in his body and his counter transmutation circle to retrieve the people of Amestris.
Greed, with a change of heart thanks to Ed, Ling, and all their friends used the last of his own willpower to reverse the ultimate shield into weak charcoal, this resulted in his death at the hands of the dwarf homunculus. Yet it allowed Ed the opening he needed to defeat the head Homunculus and send him back to the gate.
This may have sounded like a cheerful victory to many, but to a majority of them the cost was too high. Many good people were gone, Lt. Colonel Mae Hughes, Captain Buccaneer, Greed, Old Man Fu, Hohenheim was practically a dead man walking. But the biggest loss felt by everyone was Alphonse.
Ed and Al had started the journey to get their bodies back after their failed attempt to bring back their mother. They went through what was literally a country at war with itself and navigated many underground schemes in order to find the answers that they sought.
Now though, everything feels like a pyrrhic victory. Amestris may be able to see a tomorrow, but he himself didn't know where to turn now.
Yes he got almost his full body back, but Al was gone.
For the second time in his life, Edward broke down and grieved at the loss of his brother.
His father Hohenheim offered the last bit of life he had to restore his son both body and soul, not only as a form of repentance to Ed for all the grief he caused him but to also act like a father for once in his life.
Despite his plea, Ed outright condemned the decision, as doing so would be hypocritical to everything he and Alphonse stood against. How they would never sacrifice others for their own selfish gain.
Wracking his head for an answer, Ed slammed his hands on the stone ground in frustration. Looking at his hands together gave Ed the inspiration needed for his plan. Taking a piece of broken rebar, Edward traced a white transmutation circle underneath and around him.
With a smile, Edward looked at everyone telling them all that what is most likely going to be his last transmutation ever. He clapped his hands and in a flash of light, Edward vanished.
Inside the Void:
Edward stared at the white figure in front of him. One of the greatest adversaries and allies he ever met.
"Well, looks like you come to collect your brother huh? Exactly how do you intend to bring a full human out of here? Do you intend to offer your whole body? Your whole life?" Truth questioned the young alchemist.
Edward gave a small chuckle saying he had a payment alright. "Oh I have a payment alright. Its right here." He said pointing a thumb behind him. "This is my portal of truth and it means I get to decide how it is used. Isn't that right?" Ed responded in his usual cocky attitude.
Truth gaped at him in shock then gave his own chuckle. "Looks like it's come to that, hasn't it? You're sure about this? You do realize you will never be able to perform alchemy again right?"
The battle hardened alchemist looked behind him and admitted to the truth that he was aware of it and that it contained all secrets to alchemy but it also led him astray. He thought he could solve everything with alchemy, but he could never have been more wrong in his life.
Truth questioned if he was willing to throw everything away just to become a normal human. Ed shook his head. He had always been a normal human. So normal he couldn't even save a little girl from becoming a chimera by her father.
Ed gave a gentle smile as he replied "Who even needs alchemy as long as he has the people I care about?"
Truth smiled in glee admitting to Ed that what he had said was the right answer to what he was looking for.
The Fullmetal Alchemist gave what was about to be his last transmutation…. when he began to hear noise from his all around him.
Around them Edward could hear a sort of chant. But this one didn't sound xingese or amestrian. "What is this Truth? What's going on?"
Truth's smile faltered. "This isn't me little alchemist. I never thought that I would be witnessing this ever again. To be honest I am not just ecstatic on the matter. I am also annoyed."
That got an unusual reaction out of Edward. His eyes had a haunted look and a jaw hanging open. This did not sound good.
"Wha…. Wha…. What are you saying exactly?" Ed was not liking where this was going.
"Well, let's just say that you may have saved one world. Now you are being called upon to save another." The being grinned much larger than what Edward had known him to do so. "Of course you won't be going like that. So consider this to be a free gift. Especially since you had brought that idiot down and figured out the right answer. I can't exactly let you go without being at your full strength. I'd be insulted."
That was a first for Ed or any alchemist for that matter.
"Know that I do not do this kind of thing lightly Mr. Alchemist but transgressing on another beings turf like this gets me rather upset. So I will give you back your limbs, you can keep your alchemy, and your brother will be returned."
Ed stared ahead rather uneasy. Something like this sounded too good to be true. "What's the catch?"
Truths mouth turned almost into a snarl. "Try not to die… or you may never get back here."
'What did that mean?' Ed thought as his portal of truth opened up behind him with tendrils of black hands came to grab him as he screamed through the doorway.
Behind Truth
"I trust that you will have no problems with this?" Truth turned to face Alphonse.
"So am I staying here?" Alphonse asked; a tremor in his voice. Truth shook his head causing Alphonse to look relieved.
"I would advise against you to tell them to interfere with this matter child. This matter is beyond even that of regular humans, even that ridiculous dwarf in the flask."
The child nodded and accepted the answer….not that he had a choice this time. His door of truth opened and he walked right through it with a great deal of effort.
Scene Change…..
"Send word, it looks like the summoning was a success." Ed got up from the ground and looked around himself. It… looked to be like some sort of a castle. Central's main building was better than this but this place looks like something that xerxes would have had if they had a different region to govern.
"Oh brave heroes, please save our world." A nearby voice had proclaimed. The Fullmetal Alchemist looked around him seeing a number of people who looked to be in some sort of a cult.
"Uhhh… what hit me…?" Edward glanced around himself and noticed that there were three other guys. Each in their own, what seems to be quite the outlandish clothes. Of course, the one with straw blonde hair looked to be wearing a uniform of some sorts. The other two had odd clothing of their own. What also stood out was that two of them had odd weapons in their hands, a sword and a bow, the third to his right held nothing but, wait was that a shield. Looking down now that he realized; he had one as well. Something he wielded a few times just as well when he worked with the military in the starting years: a spear.
