Dinosaur King: The Complete Collection Chapter 9: Edge of Teeth, a dinosaur king fanfic

On the White Cliffs of Dover in England, one wouldn't see a card capsule that had been uncovered from the constant erosion thanks to the tide. After the tenth tide, the capsule was freed.

A crab was skittering along and knocked the capsule away, opening it up on the beachside.

A strong breeze from the ocean side was enough for the cards within to activate.

A purple and gray Eustreptospondylus emerged from a white glow and hissed. She saw her current predicament as she was below the cliffs. Seeing how low she was, the purple Jurassic theropod began to plan a way to get to higher ground.

It was a particularly hot day in Sanjo City. And the D-Team were working on different ways to stay cool.

Max and Rex were indoors, feeling a fan on their faces. "Man, it's so hot. Even with the fan on…" Rex let out.

"Now I know how patties feel…" Max added, "I thought Dad would be finished by now."

"Hey! You two aren't the only ones on the verge bursting into flames!" Dr. Taylor shouted.

The paleontologist was in the backyard, setting up an inflatable tub. It was dinosaur themed of course with a motif of a sauropod. "Just a few more minutes and the pool party is on!" Dr. Taylor beamed.

"Can it come any quicker?" Max quizzed. He looked down to see his and Rex's dinos also feeling hot themselves. "Terry, Chomp, Ace, and Tank are baking alive here too."

Not a moment sooner, Dr. Taylor beamed with pride. "And it's done!"

The inflatable pool was finally set up and the water was about knee level for the boys. Max and Rex, gratefully for the inflatable pool and ran towards it, followed by Chomp, Terry, and Tank. Once the five got in, they immediately cooled off.

"So much better," Max let out, feeling cooler by the second. The three dinos cooled themselves, despite the fact Chomp's frill helped cool him down.

However, not all the dinosaurs shared the same sediments of cooling off.

Ace stayed in his original position, still panting from the heat. It seemed he preferred to be in heat rather than get wet at all.

Rex noticed this and tried to encourage the Carnotaurus. "Come on. Ace, it will be good for you."

The Carnotaurus shook his head, got up, and ran to the fans they were previously using to cool off instead.

Rex sighed. While saving dinosaurs and school have been time-consuming, Rex had tried to tackle Ace's fear of water but no luck. He hardly got near the water, only taking quick sips.

"Looks like your pool party will have to wait, boys." Dr. Taylor said, breaking Rex out of his thoughts. The paleontologist showed Max's Dino Holder with a blinking light. The boys both sighed but got out of the kiddie pool and left to go on their mission.

For once in her life, Ursula was taking it easy with Zander and Ed. The A-trio were relaxing on the beachside of Zeta Point. They all had dressed in beach attire like in Monaco (except this time Ursula didn't tear their clothing away and use it for profit.)

"Don't you boys just love the rays?" Ursula sighed dreamily.

"Mmm hmm," Ed hummed, enjoying the rays.

"For once, I'm glad we can all relax for once." Zander proclaimed.

"Agreed." Ursula and Ed said in unison. Living on a tropical island that can move during a nice hot day was perfect for the beach. They hardly got any downtime and felt they 'needed' this after their missions.

"Well, I'm glad you three are enjoying the sunlight." Dr. Z said, walking over.

"Oh, hi Dr. Z." Ed greeted, "Are you here to join us?"

"Oh no," Dr. Z modestly said, "Quite the opposite actually."

"What do you mean?" Zander said in a relaxed tone.

"Well, maybe…" Dr. Z trailed off then got right back to task, "It's because a dinosaur has appeared and you numbskulls are just laying here!"

"But it's our day off." Ed mumbled in a low tone.

"There are no days off in the Alpha Gang! Especially with a dinosaur running lost and helpless!" Dr. Z shouted, overhearing the excuse.

"Relax, Dr. Z," Ursula waved off, too busy enjoying the rays on the beachside, "We'll just lay here for about 5 more minutes. Plenty of time to take in the sun before our mission."

"And every second you do is time those snotty-nosed brats could gain another dinosaur!" Dr. Z yelled.

With that said, the future 'king' jumped on each beach chair and sent the A-trio flying back to their main headquarters and coincidentally into their Alpha craft. The moment they hit their seats, cringing in pain from the impact, Dr. Z appeared on the monitor.

"I added turbo boosters to help get to your location quicker. Ehehehehehehehehe!" Dr. Z cackled and shouted. "Ignition!"

The Alpha craft took off in the hangar with the A-trio hanging onto dear life and screaming out of fear.

Once the Alpha craft was out of sight and out of mind, Dr. Z looked around frantically and stripped himself into a pair of Alpha Gang swimming trunks and took in the rays himself.

"Ahhhh~ Now this is the life."

Once the D-Team arrived on the White Dover Cliffs, they took in their surroundings as usual. Ace was frightened from the sight of water and ran until he couldn't see anymore. The height didn't help his hydrophobia.

"This is probably not the best place for Ace right now," Rex said, seeing the Wind dinosaur run away from the cliff.

"Well, I'm worried about the cliffside." Zoe said nervously. "Looks like a drop."

"Well, I think we know better than to be on the cliffside." Max said as the D-Team took a tremendous step back from the edge. Ace was still shivering which made Rex take action as he didn't want one of his dinosaurs too scared to fight. "I think it's better if I search inland for the dinosaur." He voiced.

Max and Zoe understood what he meant and nodded in agreement. "Zoe and I will search the coastside for anything. You take the less… watery sights of this area." And the D-Team split up to search for the roaming dinosaur.

An annoyed A-trio flew their way to the White Cliffs with Ursula -as usual- rambling about how the day changed for the worst. They had changed into their regular clothes after the Alpha craft finally slowed down -as Dr. Z had enough time for them to be

"We can't simply get one day of relaxation! It was sunny and we live on a tropical island! That's practically the best combination! Why must work be so cruel to me?!"

"Well, the faster we get the dinosaur, the faster we can go back to relaxing." Zander voiced.

Ursula just huffed, "As if we've ever been that lucky."

The universe seemed to work with them this once as the Eustreptospondylus came into view as she stalked across the cliffside, having gotten up from the coastline.

"Look, an Eustreptospondylus!" Ursula identified. Amazing how they could get this name right but not Carcharodontosaurus.

"Well, talk about our luck." Ed commented.

"Don't jinx it!" Ursula snarled, "Like I said, the faster we catch this dinosaur, the faster I can go back to relaxing."

"But didn't I-" Zander started before Ursula shot a menacing glare. Zander flinched and immediately compiled, "Right! One shocked Eustreptospondylus, coming right up!" His seat descended out of the Alpha craft and swiped Kronos' card.

"ALPHA SLASH! THEM A SHOCK, TITANOCERATOPS!"

Kronos landed, grunting in anticipation of a battle. The Eustreptospondylus noticed the roan colored ceratopsian and growled as Kronos pawed the ground.

In the air, the Alpha Gang began to cheer for Kronos, "Come on, Kronos beat that dino!"

The Titanoceratops charged head on as the silver-purple theropod dodged it. Kronos responded in the same fashion but the Jurassic theropod backflipped away. She gave a gloating growl which set Kronos off. The Titanoceratops charged angrily, only for the process to repeat itself over and over.

"Why did it have to be a quick one?" Ed lamented as the Wind dinosaur's agility made her untouchable.

Realizing his standard method wasn't working, Kronos began to anticipate the movement instead of just rushing in. On his next charge, the Eustreptospondylus planned to dodge to the left but Kronos jerked his head to the left too, striking the purple-silver theropod in the flank as she tried to jump away.

Wounded by the attack, Kronos grabbed the tail of the wild dinosaur. The Eustreptospondylus tried to kick the ceratopsian off her tail but Kronos weathered each hit, his beak firmly on his opponent.

"Time for Dino Swing!" Zander said, swiping the Move Card. Outlined in yellow, Kronos began to swing the Eustreptospondylus around several times before throwing her away. The Eustreptospondylus managed to righten herself in mid-air and landed successfully. Growling, she glowed white and let out a roar. But then her glow faded.

The Alpha Gang blinked in confusion at the outcome. "What was that?" Ed asked.

"Perhaps it has a faulty move?" Ursula said, confused. "Clearly, our about-to-be-captured dinosaur doesn't know how to properly use it."

"But this is a proper Move Card! Storm Thrust!" Zander exclaimed and swiped a Move Card.

Kronos charged forward before jumping into the thunderclouds. Descending like a bolt of lightning, Kronos struck the Eustreptospondylus, cratering her into the ground. Kronos jumped away as the Eustreptospondylus lay prone on the ground.

"Way to go!" The Alpha Gang cheered. "For once since our comeback, we managed to win!" Ursula cheered.

Ed was about to agree when he saw the Battlefield was still active, "Wait, if we won then why is the Battlefield still active?"

"Oh pish posh, Ed." Ursula waved off, "The Battlefield is usually in favor of those kids. It's probably malfunctioning or something."

"How does a Battlefield-" Ed questioned but a roar interrupted his question. The Alpha Gang saw that the fallen Eustreptospondylus vanished and turned into a log.

"The dinosaur…"

"Turned into…

"A log?"

The Alpha Gang and Kronos were confused about the situation. However, the latter was blindsided when the real Eustreptospondylus came dashing by and blitzed into the Titanoceratops. The Eustreptospondylus began running circles and pelt Kronos nonstop. Not like Ninja Attack but still enough to knock Kronos around since he had spent most of his energy in Storm Thrust.

Once her assault ended, the Eustreptospondylus admired her handiwork. A beaten Kronos was barely able to stand. The punch-drunk Titanoceratops stumbled about before the Jurassic theropod grabbed her opponent by the tail and swung him around and around until she had enough momentum to release Kronos and throw him a considerable distance and directly into the Alpha craft, resulting in his carding and the machine's destruction.

The Eustreptospondylus walked away from the scene as the A-trio landed on the ground, having survived the explosion.

"I think that was Dino Illusion." Zander noted.

"I remember that move," Ed recalled, "And now the Eustreptospondylus is on the move."

"Oh this is just great." Ursula sarcastically said. Looks like the hunt was far from over for the A-trio.

Elsewhere, in the past, Seth had arrived in the Jurassic period with a cruel smile. "At last." He activated the radar and picked up several dinosaur signals. "Time for some test subjects." He took off and went to where the signals were the strongest.

Once he arrived, he was at a grassland biome with different species.

A gray Dravidosaurus with orange plates and thagomizers and a purple Gargoyleosaurus with red spikes were browsing on a few bushes. A green Camptosaurus with white stripes along her back and a lime-green underside was currently walking through the landscape. A Patagosaurus with a neon yellow shade let out a low rumble as he bowed his neck to drink.

"Let's see. Dravidosaurus, Gargoyleosaurus, Camptosaurus, and Patagosaurus." Seth mused, "All good test subjects." From the Alpha-craft, he fired the same energy ray that converted the Alpha Gang's new dinosaurs into cards. He struck the neon yellow sauropod first and turned into a card.

The other herbivores saw the Patagosaurus vanish and were put on edge. The Camptosaurus was next then the Dravidosaurus and Gargoyleosaurus. Using the claw grappler, Seth reclaimed them all.

With a sinister grin, the blue-haired scientist pocketed each of the cards. He placed them in a vault to store them before continuing his trip.

No sooner, he came across a three way fight between a tan colored Dilophosaurus with yellow-green frills, a Wuerhosaurus with bronze plates and top while a brown underside, and a Metriacanthosaurus with red coloring and orange stripes all over her body.

The Metriacanthosaurus snarled and snapped at the Wuerhosaurus, who swung his tail in defense. The Dilophosaurus took this chance to pounce, grazing the Wuerhosaurus.

Seth watched with delight, "Normally, I would want to see the victor. However, I don't really care for the health of these dinosaurs. Under my rule, you will all be the best of your species." He aimed the ray at the three dinosaurs fighting and fired away.

"Still no sign of the dinosaur," Zoe commented as she searched the seaside. She looked below the cliffs to see the crashing waves and paled slightly. "Don't want to fall down there anytime soon." She shuddered.

The pinkette walked away with Paris and Spiny in tow, looking all over the fields. "The signal is still active so the old lady hasn't found it yet."

"I'M NOT AN OLD LADY!"

Zoe winced as she was discovered. It was like anytime the D-Team said that she appeared. Must be incredible hearing.

Ursula, huffing angrily, glared hotly at the girl. "You know what girlie? I just wanted to spend today enjoying the sun but we have this stupid mission to collect dinosaur cards from kids like you! And now, you are going to feel my wrath!" She declared and pulled out an Alpha Scanner.

"ALPHA SLASH! TIME TO SPROUT, OURANOSAURUS!"

Gaia let out a loud roar as she reared up. Zoe was quick to respond to the threat. "In case you creeps forgot, you're not the only ones that can summon dinosaurs!" She pressed her Dino Holder and retrieved Spiny's card.

"DINO SLASH! GUSH OUT, SPINOSAURUS!"

Spiny gave a growl that changed into a roar. Gaia bellowed back and stomped her hind leg in defiance.

Ed and Zander pulled out their own Alpha Scanners and summoned two extra dinosaurs to help out Gaia.

"ALPHA SLASH! RIDE THE TIDE, NEMEGTOSAURUS!"

"ALPHA SLASH! WRECKING TIME, HUAYANGOSAURUS!"

Huey and Bruce emerged and stood behind Gaia, somewhat intimidating Spiny but the spinosaurid remained determined while a Battlefield appeared.

Gaia let out a roar and charged at Spiny. Spiny responded by bringing his tail around and knocking Gaia around before she fell to the ground. The Spinosaurus noticed Huey charging and lunged with his jaws agape. Huey managed to avoid the lunge and threw his tail, hitting Spiny in the left leg. The gray spinosaurid roared just when Bruce knocked him down. Bruce dragged him across the ground until Spiny kicked the sauropod away and gave him some distance to stand up.

"Go, Shockwave!" Ed said, swiping the Move Card. Bruce glowed blue as water tendrils surrounded him. With a grunt, the water tendrils were unleashed and trapped Spiny in a whirlpool.

A recovered Gaia grunted, something Ursula noticed and decided to play herself. "Time for your Move Card, Gaia!" Ursula declared and swiped a Grass Move Card, "Go! Fern Frenzy!"

Glowing green, Gaia bellowed and reared up before slamming her forelimbs to the ground. A wave of green energy was disrupted across the cliff and various prehistoric plants began to emerge before lashing out together at a helpless Spiny.

"Zoe!" Max shouted as he and Rex arrived.

"Guys!" Zoe cried out, "Spiny can't take much more of this beating!"

"Don't worry, Zoe! We got your back!" Max declared. He and Rex activated their Dino Holders and slashed one of their partners to battle.

"DINO SLASH! TRICERATOPS, ROAR!"

"DINO SLASH! SHAKE 'EM UP, SAICHANIA!"

Chomp and Tank arrived and pawed the ground before taking off. Chomp stopped Gaia in her tracks by hitting her in the stomach, canceling her control over the prehistoric plants. Spiny's nature-themed torture ceased and he barely had enough energy to stand.

Tank growled and rammed Bruce before ducking underneath an attempted tail swipe from Huey, leaving the orange stegosaur wide open to Tank's mouth as she bit down on Huey's tail. Huey bellowed in pain as Rex swiped a Move Card.

"Dino Swing!" Rex shouted as the Saichania glowed with a purple outline while growling. Using her strength, Tank proceeded to swing Huey around several times before letting go, throwing him into Bruce and sending the two of the Alpha Gang's herbivores down.

"Neck Crusher!" Ursula shouted. Gaia obtained a green outline and ran towards Chomp with the intent of using the move. Max was quick to counter, "Electric Charge!"

Lightning struck Chomp dead-on and roared before charging once more, this time with electricity flowing on his horns. Gaia, being headstrong, thought she could power through but was proven wrong as she was hit with the electricity and sent flying.

"Why not try this!" Zander shouted and swiped a Move Card, "Plate Pursuit!"

Huey glowed purple and unleashed a smattering of purple plate-like projectiles at the D-Team's trio of dinosaurs. They managed to avoid it, causing the projectiles to hit the ground. The impact caused the cliffside to rumble and create a fracture, heading towards Zoe.

Max saw this and shouted, "Zoe, look out!"

The Grass/Water stone holder was braced for impact as the ground underneath began to crack and break off the cliff. "AHHHHHHHHH!"

Spiny was quick to react and chased his new summoner. The Spinosaurus jumped off and caught her as they plummeted. The two crashed into the water, scaring the D-Team.

"Ahahahahahaha!" Ursula cackled at the change of events. "Well, that's at least one of you brats gone and never to be seen from again. Now then. Gaia! Bruce! Huey! Crush the Triceratops and Tank!"

With some effort, Gaia was back on her feet and swung her tail, knocking Chomp off his feet. Bruce reared up and brought his forelegs down onto Chomp's flank, causing the Triceratops to roar in pain.

Huey and Tank were swatting their tails, trying to get an upper hand on each other. Until Gaia threw Tank up and kicked her away, landing on her back. With her stomach exposed, Huey and Gaia began to wail on her weakness.

"Chomp, get up!/Oh no, Tank!" Max and Rex shouted for their dinosaurs. From watching Zoe fall with Spiny to seeing Chomp and Tank get beaten into submission, the mission was getting worse.

Luckily from below, Spiny managed to walk onto shore with Zoe in his claws. Zoe, shuddering from her second near death experience, wrapped her hands around Spiny's neck. "Thanks, Spiny." She said and the Spinosaurus let out a small growl before faltering on the shoreline.

"You must have taken too much damage from the fight." Zoe noted as she decided it was best to let Spiny recover.

Back above was no easier, Chomp and Tank were beginning to reach low health. Gaia kicked Tank away with her hindlegs and Chomp was lifted by his frill by Bruce before being thrown to his ally. Both heroic herbivores roared out in pain as Max and Rex gasped at the turn of events.

"Victory is within our grasp!" Ed cheered but was smacked on the head with that comment. "OW!"

"You blockhead!" Ursula growled, "Last time you said that, we lost right! Even if it's true, let's not count them out."

And she was proven right as the Eustreptospondylus dashed onto the scene, blitzing into Gaia. The Jurassic theropod eyed her many opponents and grew a toothed smirk as she prepared for a free-for-all.

"Rex, check it out!" Max noticed.

"An Eustreptospondylus!" Rex identified. "And she's really fast!"

"Ed, you are officially forbidden to say anything when the battle is going our way." Ursula said with clenched teeth as she refrained from bashing the portly man's head in.

Huey primed his tail but the Eustreptospondylus easily avoided the attack and delivered a head-strike into Huey's side, avoiding the spike. The silver-purple theropod heaved Huey high into the air then jumped up and delivered a knee strike to the stomach, causing Huey to hit the ground and turn back into a card from the impact.

Once the Eustreptospondylus landed, both Bruce and Gaia rushed her down. With a gloating smirk, the Jurassic theropod glowed white just when the two dinosaurs struck her. The silver-purple theropod hit the ground as Gaia prepared to pummel the agile theropod but she vanished into a log, much to the two Alpha Gang dinosaurs' confusion. This cost them as the real Eustreptospondylus jumped onto Bruce's back and bit his neck.

"Man, she's really giving the Alpha Gang a fight." Max commented as he and Rex helped Tank to her feet. With some effort -and the massive help of Chomp once he had enough strength- the Saichania was back on her feet.

"Guys!" Zoe called as she rose up on Sky the Pteranodon Alpha. She used Metal Wing with the help of Paris to get back up. She landed on the ground and called her dinosaurs back as the boys ran over.

"Zoe!" The boys cheered and gave a hug to their friend. "Are you ok?!" Max asked in a panicked tone.

"I'm fine, guys." Zoe answered with relief. "But we need a way to slow down the Eustreptospondylus. She's running circles around the Alpha Gang."

Bruce struggled to get the Eustreptospondylus off him, throwing his weight around to shake off the theropod. Gaia stormed over and tried to help, using her own body to ram the Eustreptospondylus off but the theropod noticed her and jumped off just before Gaia crashed into her sauropod teammate, causing them to collide and stumble into each other. The Eustreptospondylus delivered a descending knee strike to the two herbivores before jumping on them several times until they reverted back to cards.

"Oh great." Ursula groaned. The universe was once again against them when it came to collecting dinosaur cards. The A-trio decided it was for the best to just collect their fallen dinosaurs.

With the three Alpha Gang dinosaurs defeated, the Eustreptospondylus growled as she approached Chomp and Tank. She prepared to lunge at Tank but Sky, Wing, and Flap swooped in disorienting her. The theropod started to snap at the Pteranodons, only missing them as she became their new targets.

"Now, while she's distracted!" Zoe called out and Rex and Max got out two Move Cards.

"Sand Trap!" Tank's eyes flashed purple and she roared, summoning a pit of quicksand that hindered the Eusptreptospondylus' movement. The silver-purple theropod was too busy snapping at the pterosaurs to notice but the moment she did, the Eusptreptospondylus roared and tried to escape.

"Go, Max!" Rex and Zoe shouted to their brunette friend.

"Here we go, Chomp! Lightning Strike!" Max shouted.

Crackling with yellow electricity, Chomp condensed the electricity into a ball between his horns. He reared up and fired a concentrated beam of electricity that struck the immobile Eusptreptospondylus, the force knocking her out of the quicksand and stunned with electricity. She let out a pained roar before turning back into a card.

"Quick, get the card!" Ursula barked as the A-trio began to sprint the best they could.

"Oh no, you don't! Sky, Wing, Flap!" Zoe shouted to the three Pteranodons. "Time for some payback!" The pterosaur trio flew in a halt their progress which made the A-trio go rigid as they were picked up by the flying reptiles.

"Hey, I demand you drop us this instance!" Ursula barked at both the D-Team and pterosaurs.

"If that's what you want, old lady." Zoe taunted.

"I am not an old la-DDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEE!" She screamed as the A-trio plummeted into the sea with a splash.

"And that's for the near-death experience!" Zoe vengefully said. The boys decided it was best for them to just retrieve the card as they let Zoe be for now.

With their successful mission, the D-Team had Bree the Eustreptospondylus roaming around the Sanctuary, most notably the watering hole. She was taking sips of water for the time being, having cooled off since her re-activation.

"Seem's Bree is well adjusted to her new environment." Dr. Taylor noted as he jotted down more notes of their latest arrival.

"Yeah, and we got a new Move Card too." Rex voiced, holding up the Dino Illusion Move Card. "It seems like one has to take the hit for it to activate." Then he looked down, "Though I am worried about Ace."

"With his fear of water?" Dr. Taylor asked, to which Rex confirmed with a nod. "Don't worry about it, Rex. While it may take some time, I think Ace can eventually conquer his fear."

"I hope so." Rex said with shoulders sagging, "I don't want his fear of water to affect future missions."

"Ace can get over it in time." Max offered, "We just have to trust our dinosaurs to overcome their fears, if they have any. Remember how Terry was with Pandora?"

"That was more of a grudge match but he did run away." Zoe recalled.

"The point is one of these days, Ace will get over his fear of water." Max declared and flashed a thumbs-up to his friend who responded in kind.

In a surprise, -or not depending on how one sees it- the A-trio managed to swim all the way back to Zeta Point from the White Cliffs of Dover.

At least, Ursula and Zander. Ed used a piece of driftwood and kicked his way back.

"So to recap, we didn't get the dinosaur, our ride was destroyed, I've been called old twice, dropped into the ocean by pterodactyls and my day at the beach was ruined by this mission!" Ursula snarled with rage.

"But at least the sun is still out?" Ed offered but Ursula ignored him.

To their surprise, they saw Dr. Z lounging on their seats. Something that made Ursula's mental bomb go off.

"Are… you… KIDDING ME!?" She roared loudly, which startled the boys and Dr. Z.

Dr. Z awoke with a jump, flailing his arms in the air before crashing down. He recomposed himself before a shadow of Ursula with a piercing glare and engulfed in flames that could rival Helga's appearance towered over him.

"Ah! Ursula! It's not what it looks like!" Dr. Z tried to defend himself but Urusla wasn't having it much like with their mission to Easter Island. Dr. Z proceeded to run for his life as Ursula chased him, the latter seeming to be breathing fire.

Ed and Zander decided it would be best for her to cool off and went back to the lab for the time being.

The Alpha Gang still has their old Move Cards from before. If you saw on my profile, I listed them. I would think Dr. Z made copies in case they ever got anymore dinosaurs.

StonedChompski used this card previously in his 'Prehistoric Peril' story, a tad different than I did. However, it's my original Move Card and I have given permission for him to use it.
