As we flew higher and higher, Pink set the Dropship to "autopilot" to keep on ascending upwards and came into the main room. She got some bandages and a special liquid from the crates laying about inside and tended to Tan, covering her charred legs after pouring the healing liquid on it. She then handed me her medical equipment and turned so that I could apply it to where she'd been cut in the back. As she put the medical stuff away, I asked, "Who assaulted you? Olive?"
She nodded as she started into the cockpit again. "We're safe now, though, right?" she asked. Not wanting to complicate the situation even further, Tan and I nodded innocently, so Pink went back into the cockpit and retook control of the Dropship.
Once I was sure she couldn't hear us, I told Tan, "We…maybe we can live—"
The Dropship stopped with a jolt that shook all of us. Tan opened her eyes right back open. "What the—"
"It's MIRA," Pink called from the cockpit. "Dropships aren't allowed to leave unless authorized and I TOTALLY JUST FORGOT! MIRA will take that as some crewmate's attempt to escape a job they do not want!"
"Sounds just like MIRA," Tan muttered.
The windows outside glowed a pale white, and I felt the Dropship being pulled towards something. I looked out the window on the other side to see that we'd breached the thick black cloud layer and was now in the empty night sky, white clouds above us. And in the middle, standing out like a sore thumb, was the huge, shiny, glass-and-metal superstructure, the gleaming, silvery tower that was MIRA HQ. The light was coming from a similarly glowing cone protruding from a balcony somewhere on the HQ. It was a tractor beam. It was pulling us right towards the base, and as we got closer, I saw a launchpad covered with crates, boxes, a tractor beam projector…
…and a platoon of heavily armed MIRA officials.
What are they gonna make of me, a wounded assistant crewmate, and paralyzed-from the waist-down Beta Imposter escaping from the wreckage of their prime research facility on Polus?
I wonder…
