Author's Note:
Hi all, or hi to my one follower. First of all, this is my very first fanfic I have ever written, and I wish to express my elation at joining the community. I have already felt utter amazement from reading the creativity of others, and have thoroughly enjoyed pushing myself to write TOTD. I have always loved writing, but found myself writing less and less into adulthood. To me, this is a way to grow and find out my own creative limits, while getting the opportunity to tell the story of my two favorite players on a game I have been on since 2017!
So here is a BIG thank you to anyone who reads, especially to the individual who follows the story (I won't lie, I was quite giddy when I saw TOTD gained a follower.) I absolutely would love feedback, and certainly welcome critical observations.
Enough about me though, to lighten the mood from the previous chapter and a quick peek into the future of the story, here is a little draft I wrote about Overwatch's 'Storm Rising' mission in Havana, one word hint: Gency.
Enjoy!
Storm Rising
Lena confirmed the location of the armored convoy, just 3 streets down from Genji and Angela. It would be a quick mission if everything went smoothly. All they had to do was avoid the public eye up until reaching Maximillien. More than likely there were Talon operatives crawling through the streets. Though it was relatively easy for Sojourn, Lena, Angela and Genji to stay out of sight; the same could not be said for Winston, the giant ape.
Genji spoke softly into their communication network, "Understood, Angie and I will make our way east bound to intercept."
Sojourn: Winston, remain in place. Tracer, keep an eye on the convoy. Once it turns right down the next street it should be in my sight.
Winston: Understood.
Lena: Gotcha!
Genji peeked at the street below, scanning for a route. He had to be careful, as Angela was not as agile as him.
"I think we should probably hop down and take that alleyway down there to go east. It looks like it will take us straight to where we need to be." Angela pointed to the right.
He nodded and silently jumped from the roof, holding his arms above him to help her down. They ran a block over into the alleyway, stopping for a moment. Angela quietly panted.
"You are tired?" Genji whispered.
"This Havana heat is no joke." She smiled.
"Hm. I forgot."
"Oh, yes. I'm sorry. That's right, your suit–"
"It's fine, come on we have to hurry." He made his way down to the other side of the alley, and gave Angela the 'clear' signal.
Not a second after Genji stepped out from the alley, a line of Talon soldiers were turning around the corner down the street. He swiveled around grabbing Angela firmly and squeezing her up against himself.
"Oof!"
He delicately tapped two fingers on his mask, signaling her to be quiet.
They could hear the convoy grinding on the cobblestone streets, the heavy footsteps of an army of soldiers coming their way. It felt like a mini earthquake. With shuriken's armed in his right hand that was wrapped around Angela's back, he slid his left arm from her waist up into her blonde ponytail. He pushed her head onto his shoulder so he could peer around the corner.
Genji: Target sighted, in position.
Lena: Still trailing behind the target.
Winston: Still in… this building.
Sojourn: Stay in the shadows Genji, I will send the first shots. Winston, your queue is the moment you hear those shots. Tracer, hit their back row after I fire and draw attention. Genji, don't come out until the convoy is put into lockdown and the men are scattered. Mercy, stay hidden unless necessary. Got it?
The team in unison: Understood.
"G-genji, while I love a hug from you, you are holding awfully tight."
He took a step back, immediately releasing her from his grasp, "I'm sorry. I forget my own strength in this."
"Don't be, you make me feel safe." She gave him a comforting smile.
One of the few moments he was happy to have a metal mask covering his face, he felt a wave of warmth on his cheeks.
"Just stay behind me you know what to do, Angie."
"10-4 not the first dance we've done, Genji."
Sojourn's distinct railgun's disruptor shot was heard by the whole team, even by Winston sitting politely some blocks away.
It was time to fight.
