Chapter 35
It's been two weeks since Huck went dark and Fitz's secret service agents were trying to piece together the clues or anything Huck may have left behind. Tom was the only trained enough to know anything about computers and Huck's brilliant setup even had him stumped.
The first thing Alec noticed was the hole in the fence. Calling Fitz over immediately after finding it, they put together the details of the delivery driver and the attempt to kidnap Olivia. With the knowledge, he looked over to the thinking garden where Liv had stopped while Fitz checked out the fence.
He took a seat right next to Liv on the bench, Grant soundly sleeping on her shoulder, and he looked at Abby's memorial with her. He rubbed her back and gave Grant a kiss on his head, loving the feel of his growing soft curls.
Learning his lesson from not being up front with Liv right away he took a deep breath. "Looks like someone tried to leave an opening in the fence. Judging by what we pieced together, it may have been the time you usually come to the thinking garden for Abby."
Liv just stared in front of her, gave Grant a little rock back and forth, and nodded her head. "Huck noticed the fence, I'm sure of it. Probably ran into Dez or one of his goons and pretended to be a bad guy. We knew this was bound to happen, right." She now looked at Fitz neither mad nor upset, just confident.
"I promised your safety, his safety and that's my first priority Liv, you know that."
"I get that, Fitz, but you also have a responsibility to the state of California, you're their Governor."
"I'm your husband and his father first."
"We can go in circles all day with this, the fact is, Huck is on the inside now with Dez, I'm sure of it. Warn your agents, there's going to be blood, especially if Huck knows we're Dez's number one target." She leaned in and gave Fitz a kiss. "Let's go explain this darkness to MiMi, she's going to miss Huck the most."
Erin understood every word Liv was saying. She saw Huck in his dark mode, it wasn't pretty. Once she came to after her leg surgery, he admitted to her what he did to Boozer. Although it freaked her out a bit, she was happily celebrating the fact that her attacker met such a terrible demise. Erin took Mimi's hand. "Trust me, Dolores, if Huck is on the outside, we are more than protected on the inside."
Like any concerned mother figure, MiMi held Grant close to her. His blue eyes looked up at her and smiled. She gave him a strong kiss on his forehead. "I just hope Huck doesn't get hurt."
Liv gave a small chuckle. "The only way Huck gets hurt is if he stabs himself, Huck doesn't get hurt, trust me." Liv took Grant to feed him and left the ladies to discuss things.
Vivian had been over most of the week, strategizing the next few days with Olivia. Fitz was in and out of the Santa Barbara home. Most of Liv's seeing him was on a TV screen, never as gorgeous as being in the room with him.
"Yo, Liv, stay with me, ok." Vivian had to clap Olivia back to reality. Fitz was on a screen standing at a podium at the statehouse. He was talking about the efforts being made to alleviate the homeless population throughout the state.
"Sorry Viv, he's so presidential, isn't he?"
"That he is, which is why his father was so protective of him, remember."
Liv sighed and looked at Vivian. "As if I could forget. What do we have?"
Vivian looked at her phone. "I'm heading out in twenty minutes, I'm going to meet you at the Santa Barbara Marriot, I'm staying overnight, making sure the room is up to date and meeting with the coalition leaders. These are some of the points to make in your speech. Remember you're a guest being honored for your work with abused women and their emotional health care, so focus on that."
Liv looked over the talking points. "Santa Barbara Women's Coalition, any chance Tracy or Marybeth are organizers?" Liv was remembering the mayor's ball.
"Hmm," Vivian pulled out a paper. "Not any organizers by those names, however there are two names on the list Tracy MacMillan and Marybeth Beable."
"Just some fans of mine. This is great, Vivian, thank you for all your help. How does it feel being Chief of Staff."
Packing up her things she stood up and looked at Liv. "I'm still not used to it, but I'm loving it, this is so much fun." She turned in time to see Erin coming in with a wet curl, freshly bathed Grant.
"Hey my favorite blue eyed boy." Vivian rubbed his cheek. "You spend some time with mama." She kissed him and said her goodbye to Erin as she headed out.
Grant practically dove into Liv's arms on the bed. "Hey big guy, are you all ready for bed? Thanks so much Ma, for getting him ready."
Erin smiled down at both of them, "it's my pleasure, the joy he brings to me Liv." She blinked back her tears and crossed her arms. "You ready for tomorrow."
Liv put her papers aside, letting Grant latch on while she talked to Erin. "I'm working on my speech, I'm looking forward to it, I'm glad you and MiMi decided to come."
"You miss him?" Erin asked, not specifying who she meant.
"I'm getting used to sharing him with the state. It's better than not being in his life at all. I want to get to some of his events to be in the public eye with him." Liv looked over. "You weren't talking about Fitz, were you."
Erin shook her head. "I meant Huck. Besides you, he's my only other connection to Abby and I love him like a son, I have nightmares about him."
"I know, but he'll come back to us, as soon as he knows we're out of danger."
"Will that ever happen?" She gave Liv and Grant a kiss and said good night, as she left the room.
Liv was sitting up in the middle of the bed, typing on her laptop in front of her. Her legs were criss crossed and Grant had his head on her lap spread out in the middle of her crossed legs. He was sleeping as his mother rhythmically typed away on the keyboard.
While proofreading what she had typed, carefully and fully engrossed in the screen, she didn't notice the bedroom door opening. Should she have? She was certain Fitz was up to having three agents out there guarding the room sometimes.
He stood in the doorway and just looked at her. No matter the time of day, or if she was sleeping or awake, Olivia was always a sight for his sore eyes. He watched his son sleeping peacefully against his mother's leg, saw her reading rigorously what was on the computer screen, and thought to himself how much love he had for them.
Not wanting to startle her by just getting on the bed and devouring her neck with his lips, he whispered "you have too many clothes on, you need to take some off." He smiled when Liv looked up at him and smiled back.
"Hey Mister, what are you doing here, I didn't think you'd be back until tomorrow." She watched as he straddled behind her, leaning up on the headboard. She tilted her head to the left as his lips kissed the right side of her neck.
"I wasn't, but I couldn't stand another minute away from you. I did all tomorrow's work today and today's work yesterday just so I can come home to my family. What are you doing?" He looked at the screen.
"Finalizing my speech for tomorrow. Vivian gave me the talking points. She's great Fitz, she has quite the political mind."
"Yeah, I vaguely remember that from Oakland when I was drunk talking to her. She does know her stuff. How is our guy?" Fitz nodded to Grant, still not moving, sleeping soundly.
"Knocked out. I really wonder what MiMi and Erin do to him all day that he sleeps so soundly." Liv laughed. Fitz went back to kissing her neck and she was trying not to make any sudden moves, so Grant stayed asleep.
His cheek now touching her cheek, her hand on his jawline and she finally lip locked with him on an angle. "I missed you, Governor." Her forehead was now resting so his lips could kiss it. "Let me put Grant in his bed."
"Right there, I want him in the room with us tonight." Fitz pointed to the bed they kept in their room.
She lifted Grant up, who opened his eyes for a second, seemed to be just to get a glimpse of his daddy, and cuddled down into his bed. Liv stared at him for a moment and felt Fitz rubbing her back. "You should see him now Fitz, he goes from tummy to back and back to tummy. Remember what a big deal we made when he went from tummy to back." She continued to watch him.
"I remember, and I remember how much I missed my wife." He pulled her back just a bit, her back to his chest as he took her shirt off to no bra. He began kissing her back, her smooth brown skin just a beauty to look at and his hand reached around and cupped her breast."
She felt that he was only in his boxers, having taking his clothes off while she was putting Grant down. She felt him through his boxers, that rock hard erection waiting for her. She gave it a stroke and whispered, "you never disappoint."
His fingers went down the waistline of her lace panties and he felt her wetness. "Nor do you, Mrs. Grant." He slid his boxers off but kept Liv facing away from him. He cupped her hips and was ready to enter his wife. Two fingers creeping up her stomach, to her breasts, to her lips, where she licked one and he used it to outline her gorgeous red lips.
He was about to enter her, and she said "Fitz, the…"
"Fuck the condom, ok Liv, I want you, now." He lifted her slightly and he was in her within seconds as his hand now rubbed down her back as he thrusted her body up, feeling himself deep inside her. With nowhere else to go, his mouth landed on her neck as he felt her hands on both his laps as their bodies were slapping together.
She gave a soft groan, "Fuck, Fitz," Her head went back, breathing deeply, he was so into her right now, his hands now, both, on her breasts, as he was now lying down on the bed, and she was sitting up with him deep inside her.
Feeling her climax slowly rising and knowing he wasn't far behind, "are you sure?" she said one last time, and her eyes closed tight. She hoped he was sure, because she did not want this rhythm to stop, she was about to explode.
Not hearing an answer, her body began to fall forward onto his arm that was now across her waist, and he felt her body quiver a bit as she moaned softly in orgasm. He once again cupped her hips and brought her body under his, staying inside her.
He watched her eyes meet his and she caressed his face as she closed them weakly to keep going for him. He finally fell forward, climaxing into his beautiful wife and breathing deeply into the crook of her neck. His head came up where their lips met, and he kissed her softly before letting her get comfortable in his arms.
In the quiet of the dark room now, Liv began talking to Fitz about the event in the morning. "The coalition does wonders to help women with all issues, it's a great organization."
Fitz nodded, staring into the darkness, just rubbing Liv's temple as she talked into his chest. "It's one of the few things my father set up that I haven't diminished. He did it, the one in Santa Barbara anyway, as a token of my mother's memory. One thing he didn't want was other women not get care from ovarian cancer. At one point, my father did have a heart." Fitz took a sigh. "I have no doubt he may be there tomorrow, so I'm forewarning you."
Liv nodded, understanding. "I wonder how Huck is doing. Erin is missing him something bad. As much as I'm convinced nothing will happen to him, I worry about him. You do know things are going to happen that won't be pretty Fitz. Huck isn't afraid to shed blood, especially when it comes to our protection."
"I get it, I do. From what I've heard, Dez is a mini Jax. He's starting quite the syndicate in San Diego, that's where Jax lost most of his business when Huck burned down the heroin lab. There's been major crime sprees going on there and Dez is funding it all. He's out of control."
Liv had nothing more to say. She didn't see this ending nicely for Dez and she didn't care. What she could predict, though, was that people were going to die, important people high up on the political scale. It would be the only way Huck could gain Dez's trust.
Fitz was Dez's number one enemy. Much like Jax and Chip, Dez was on a mission, the only thing different, Olivia and Fitz were his targets, and Dez didn't look like anything would slow him down. Liv only hoped Huck could get to him before it got to close to Fitz.
Curling up closer to Fitz, holding him tightly for comfort, Liv fell asleep with Fitz, just at the same time Dez was asking "Shag" to prove his loyalty to him.
Looking at the three computer screens Huck had set up in Dez's crime headquarters, he felt Dez pat him five times on the shoulder. "This is fucking great, Shag. You know your computer shit. Look at that, the outside of the Grant home. Fucking fabulous."
Huck looked at the familiar surroundings of the outside of the ranch. Of course, he could tap into his own cameras. He knew the safe ones, the ones Liv would stay away from most. Just showing Dez he could get access like that to the Governor's ranch was enough evidence that Huck was on Dez's side.
Around the time Huck took his place at Dez's side two weeks ago, the police issued a small report about a delivery driver and unidentified man being found unconscious in the woods. The man was later identified as a career criminal wanted in several states. California sent him, the real Shag, on his way to Minnesota where it would be the first of many prison stays. He would never be heard from again in Dez's organization.
Huck was happy now to be playing the part. Suddenly, something caught the eye of Dez on one of the monitors on playback from the previous days. "Him, right there, there you are, you fucker, you're first to go." Huck looked over at the monitor.
This camera was in the Governor's mansion, the one farthest from the desk, one that Fitz had Huck install after Liv's call was recorded almost a year ago. "I can't believe you got in on the Governor's office. Wish you could've gotten closer but this will do," Dez said when he first saw the set up.
Huck was now looking at Bo Sanderson, one of Gerry's best friends and an untrusted Senator from California. He was going to be in battle with Joyce Waters soon on election day, but Sanderson would not see that election day, not if Dez had his way.
"That fucker sat with me and Jax in Jax's home. He made promises and those promises were shit. He's political death number one, you up for the job Shag?"
Huck shrugged one shoulder. "Yeah, sure, not a problem." He had to get to Liv, Liv had to warn Fitz. Sanderson was going to die, it was inevitable, and Fitz needed to know. Huck had an idea to get to Liv, he didn't like it, but he had to do it.
"He's going to be in San Diego the day after tomorrow. There's this bullshit thing about feeding kids in schools the governor is all hard on about. Kill him, there, in front of the of other politicians. This will be great." Dez clapped and gave an evil laugh.
Huck just stared at the guy. He was serious about this, and Huck began thinking of ways he could pull it off. "I can do that." Huck just whispered.
"You're so serious right now, aren't you?" Dez looked at Huck. "Oh, we are going to make a great team. Bruce! Bring me that announcement flyer about the meals and shit for kids." He handed the paper to Huck, but Huck didn't need it.
Pretending to read it thoroughly, Huck was thinking of his sure proof way to get to Olivia. He thought of Grant, MiMi, and Erin, and how much he missed them. He couldn't let that cloud his thoughts though. He thought of Abby, dead, blood, stairs and he went back into darkness mode.
"So then the looks on their faces will be priceless. The thing that's best, the little silver spoon Governor will be there, maybe even his wife. Oh, this is going to be the shit to get me on the list."
Huck heard Dez's words come back to the forefront. "What list is that?"
"The most dangerous list. I'll be starting to expand my power, just like Jax. He would be so proud of me." Dez walked away, happy as can be.
Huck clicked a button, and he was staring at Liv on the monitor. It was the thinking garden camera, the one camera Huck set up that only he knew about. Liv was there with Grant earlier today and Huck just stared at the screen, finally away from Dez for a moment so he could do so.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Liv, at the women's thing. I miss you and that little guy." Huck clicked off the screen and went to meet with Dez and his goons to discuss the next dumb strategy. As he walked into the room of Dez's wide smile, Huck smiled back. That's right, Huck thought, smile away because you have less than six months to live, and I'll be happier than you are right now watching you bleed out.
"You look so professional, elegant, yet casual. God, Liv, you look good in anything. These women are going to love you. I knew it", Viv shook her head in disbelief, "I just knew this state would love you as much as they love Fitz."
Liv was dressed in a floral print dress. It was knee level, making Liv look a bit youthful, yet professional. The top came across above her breast and ended just at the neckline. She had the lavender charm necklace Fitz had given her, the one that belonged to his mother around her neck, meeting at the place the dress stopped. It gave an even softer touch to Liv's gorgeous skin. She also wanted to honor his mother at an event like this. The floral print of the dress was bringing out the twinkling of her brown eyes. She looked in the mirror smiling.
"Thank you, Viv, you played a major part in all of this. The best is yet to come, right." Liv took a deep breath. She was hoping today wasn't the day Huck would have to prove his loyalty to Dez, however, she didn't think he would do it without trying to get a word to her somehow.
"I'm heading out there. Too bad Fitz will be missing you. I know you wanted MiMi and Erin here, there's no one else for Grant, I get it." Viv headed out to begin greeting guests coming into the venue.
Before the door even closed, Liv heard a familiar voice. "Don't turn around, keep looking in the mirror."
Liv almost fell off the chair, never mind turning around. It was Huck and she knew enough not to say his name, but she didn't know if she could control not seeing him.
"Don't, Liv, don't turn around, keep looking into the mirror," Huck warned her. Seeing her do as he asked, he continued. "I'm killing Sanderson tomorrow at the event you'll be at with Fitz. I have no choice Liv, I have to do it. You're one of Dez's targets, and I have to do it to protect you."
Liv nodded to the mirror, pretending to put on make up but listening to every word Huck was saying. Her stomach began to turn, and she could feel her nerves begin to tremble. "You need to be careful," she said to her reflection in the mirror.
"Oh, I'm careful, I just keep anticipating the day I see Dez's blood all over the floor. Anyway, warn Fitz. There's one podium at the event tomorrow, two people will speak from that podium. First, you speak about the bill, the grant, the money for the meals, then Sanderson will speak."
"I wasn't aware that…" she stopped, she didn't want to say anymore.
"Well, he's going as an opponent to the bill, he thinks it's a waste of money, so maybe Fitz can spin the death on a disgruntled parent or something. He is good, he'll think of something, but I need you to let him know it's coming. You look beautiful, Liv, I'm so glad you're living this life now."
"Let me just look," her face went closer to the mirror, but she heard him refuse.
"No, don't turn around, just go out the door. Tell Tom the password is Grant Thomas to get into the Silicone Valley program. That's where I'll communicate. Give Grant a kiss for me."
Liv nodded one last time into the mirror and got up to leave out the same door Vivian did a few minutes ago. As the door closed, she blinked away tears, wanting so much to see Huck, but understood why she couldn't. She saw Vivian standing in the doorway signaling her to come over.
Liv looked around the room. Women were dressed up, sipping mimosas and champagne, and they were engaged in conversation. Some were walking around, standing around, and others were at crowded tables waiting for the event to begin.
"You know those two." Vivian's head nodded in the direction so Liv could see.
Liv's head tilted with annoyance. She was looking at Tracy and Marybeth, the posh bitches from the mayor's ball. Tracy was still fresh on Liv's mind as wanting to get into Fitz's pants. "Hell yes, unfortunately. Those are the two I asked about last night."
"Friends of yours?" Vivian laughed. "No offense, you don't look their type."
"I'm not. The one in light blue, she has it bad for Fitz. I should've guessed they would part of this club."
"Oh no, don't look now, but MiMi found her way to them, oh shit, Liv, look at her head right to Tracy."
Liv covered her mouth so her laughter wouldn't echo the room. Whatever MiMi was saying to Tracy, Tracy did not like it one bit. She was looking at MiMi up and down and didn't get a word in. MiMi walked away to the shocked stares of Marybeth and Tracy watching her walk away.
Whatever MiMi said to her had an effect because Tracy slammed her drink on the tray and walked to her seat pouting with Marybeth chasing after her. In fact, everyone was going to their seat, as the emcee took her place and began speaking.
Just before Liv was to be introduced as the guest speaker and recipient of the award for work in women's emotional health, all eyes turned to the back of the room.
Vivian poked Olivia. "Did you know he was coming, shit Liv, this is fantastic."
Liv watched as Fitz nodded and smiled that amazing smile at all the women. He was holding his son, who was looking more like his father everyday and just put his back up against the back wall listening and bouncing Grant.
"Well, this is a surprise. Governor Grant has just entered the program, and I have an idea why," the emcee continued, "Before I mention the reason for Governor Grant being here, let me introduce with the Governor is his adorable son Grant. Grant, along with his father, no doubt is here to watch a very special woman receive an award deserving to her for her work with women."
Marcia, the emcee, went on to speak about Olivia's work at the shelters in her short time here in California. She spoke about her taking on the role of First Lady of the state, raising a son, and being behind the scenes as the Governor's wife, until recently when she and Grant were introduced to California.
"It is my pleasure to introduce, Mrs. Olivia Grant, recipient of the work with women of emotional health award." The room began to clap.
"You're up Mrs. Grant, go do your thing." Vivian smiled as she let Liv lead the way into the room of applause.
Liv stopped at the back giving Fitz a hug and kissing Grant. Her son put his arms out to go to mom, but Fitz pulled him back. "What are you doing here?" she whispered, still smiling.
"Watching the love of my life take her place in the hearts of Californians, just like I knew she would do." He kissed her back, gently on the cheek and as Liv turned, she saw the heat in Tracy's eyes watching the whole exchange. Liv walked up to the podium, waving and deliberately nodding in Tracy's direction.
Liv had a whole new motivation taking the microphone. She took another look to the back as Fitz was talking to Grant. Grant looking at him like he understood every word his father was saying. Smiling on the inside, her scared nerves after hearing Huck settling down now, Liv looked at the crowd filled with confidence. Her husband was here to support her, and she would support him just the same, that is what love is about.
"Thank you, ladies of the coalition, for this award, I am truly honored to accept it, not only as First Lady of your state, but also as a woman who lost a sister to domestic violence, and was herself, a victim of emotional abuse." Liv looked at Erin, who smiled a sad smile at Liv and gave her wink, knowing this was all about Abby.
Liv continued with her five-minute speech, watching Vivian in the back and remembering all the talking points Vivian had prepped her on, touching upon each one of them. "I will end with this. Our state is lucky to have a Governor who values women and their rights. His Lt. Governor is a woman, he has six women heads of different departments in his cabinet. Unlike his father, a previous Governor, this Governor Grant is making strides in the advancement of women in this state. Women of all races are able to get ahead now easier than ever before. I am proud to call him my husband, and I am excited to see this state go in the right direction under his leadership. Thank you."
Fitz's eyes met hers as she walked down from the podium, and they were smiling at one another. She had to get to him to tell him about Sanderson tomorrow, but she couldn't make her way across the room without being stopped by so many different women.
She saw him look at his phone, a concerning look came over his face, and he walked over to MiMi. He handed Grant to her, whispered in her ear, and left the venue as quickly as he appeared. Liv watched him walk out the door, but it wouldn't be for another fifteen minutes before she could make her way towards MiMi.
Liv turned to walk towards Erin and MiMi only to be face to face with Tracy. "I don't want any problems, Ms. Macmillan," Liv said as she tried to continue walking. Tracy grabbed her arm, and Olivia just looked down at Tracy's hand then back up at her, very angrily.
Tracy let her arm go but not without getting a few words in first. "I don't know what you did, where you came from, or how you got to him, but Fitz is much better off without you. You are going to ruin his chances for presidency. This little award today means nothing. This coalition is always going the wrong way. Maybe they should let the donors vote on who gets the award." She looked at Liv up and down, much like she did to MiMi a half hour ago. "I'll find out what you're hiding soon enough, just know, you do have one enemy in this state, if not more, but you can put me on the top of the list. Tell your little Nanny over there, I'm not done with her either."
This time Tracy picked up a glass of champagne as the tray was going by. She took a sip, staring at Liv and turned and walked away. Liv rolled her eyes and continued on her way towards MiMi.
Fitz looked down at his phone. There was a picture of his father leaving state headquarters with Sanderson. Along with the picture there was a text message. "He's about to take the senate floor and bash your policies ahead of the event tomorrow. Your father is fully on board with him. Press is here in full force and ready to question your absence."
Before he could say his goodbyes to Olivia, Fitz was out the door and already on a plane back to Sacramento. He played Liv's speech over again in his mind to calm the anger he was feeling. He clicked on the tv in front of him and there she was, accepting the award as the cameras videotaped from earlier in the day.
The screen went now to the statehouse where Fitz went from watching the face of the woman he loved to the face of the man he hated, his father.
"I'm in DC week after week trying to pass bills in this country that would not only benefit other states, but keeping California as it's focus. The Governor is reversing bills I passed years ago and replacing them with his liberal beliefs. Bo Sanderson is one voice of reason to halt these bills, and he will do so. He can only continue to do so if Governor Grant does not get his wish and have Joyce Waters beat Sanderson out in November."
Sanderson was next at the microphone. "I used to call California the best state to live in, now I wake up wondering how Governor Fitzgerald Grant has made this the worst state to live in. He is beholden to having his friends as leaders, to do exactly as he says. Governor Grant says we have issues with public schools feeding our students. It's not up to schools to feed students, let their parents feed students.
"He is wasting money each day with new programs he claims are helping residents. We know that's a lie, he's doing it to look good, so he gets a nod for president in three years." Sanderson stopped, let Gerry whisper in his ear and nodded.
"Suddenly, he has a wife, a child, one out of wedlock, I may add, and he doesn't tell the very people that elected him to office about it. Do you want a Governor to have leadership under him that does exactly what he says to do?" Sanderson looked up now, seeing Fitz make his way through the crowd, and the cameras spun around in sync.
Fitz gracefully walked up to the podium, face to face now with Sanderson, a man he's known since he was 7, and just stared at him, a cold long stare. Sanderson finally stepped down, and left the microphones opened to Fitz.
Watching from the living room of the ranch now, Liv saw it all unfolding on live TV. Sanderson just became an enemy to Fitz for all the state to see, and tomorrow, Sanderson would die. This was going to be a disaster for Fitz, and Liv had no way of getting the warning to him.
Tom entered the room. "Ma'am", he looked towards Liv. "The password went through and I have access to messages. This came through. I am passing it along. I'll keep monitoring the computers and let you know of any new developments."
Liv looked at what Tom had handed her, and she leaned back on the couch, almost slouching. She always knew with Jax gone there would be someone to continue this vendetta and she wasn't wrong. Looking at the picture Huck sent forth, she understood why he had to stay dark now.
Huck had sent a picture of the wall he had seen when he first entered Dez's headquarters. There she was looking at dozens of pictures of her and Grant, and Liv relived the last year all over again. She turned back towards the screen now, Fitz getting ready to speak.
The only thing Liv could think of now was how much she needed him there with her as her husband and not the Governor of California. Fitz only had one topic to talk about and had he known what Olivia knew maybe he would've avoided the topic, but he didn't.
"If the humble state senator is so skeptical about the free meal bill for students, perhaps he should accompany me tomorrow in San Diego. That's where the bill will be piloted, the funds distributed, and he can tell those families getting the meals what a waste it is."
Fitz turned and looked at his now enemy, and Sanderson looked back, accepting the offer. "I was planning to be there anyway, but I'd be delighted to go as your guest."
"Good," Fitz faced the crowd. "Make sure you bring your ventriloquist, the former Governor Grant, I wouldn't want you stumbling on your words Senator, looks like you need someone feeding them to you. He can watch as you fall." Fitz gave that award winning smile and left the microphones.
Tons of meetings and work to do here Liv so I can spend the weekend with you and Grant at the ranch. I'll see you tomorrow in San Diego, I love you and Grant, good night. You were brilliant today. Fitz clicked send and handed the phone to Luther before going into the briefing room for several hours.
Huck and Dez watched as the service agents left the park area where the event would take place. "Did you see that conference today; this is falling right into our hands Shag. Sanderson will be killed, and they will have no one to blame except that pretty little Governor." He gave Huck a pat on the back.
Huck's smile faded once Dez was in front of him. He had to go through with this, regardless of what it was going to do to Fitz. He once had no doubt Fitz would get through this unscathed, but after witnessing what he did at the statehouse, that thought was a far distance now.
Huck took a deep breath and followed Dez and his guys going over the plans for tomorrow's crime spree to take full effect, all for the Governor to witness.
