chapter 4
After a long and painful negotiation where we paid a fair amount of gold for the land we have been assigned on the west coast of the north between a place called the Deepwood motte to the north east held by house Glover, Winterfell to the east the capital of the north and seat of house Stark and Torrhen's Square to the south east held by house Tallhart. All told we are given enough land to account for a small country back in the old world as we have decided to call it.
We as a group have also decided to for now to take up the worship of the old gods as I know there responsible for us being here but for the men its the only religion here that seems to put the least amount of pressure and demands on my people which is best until we are better situated to decide better. So the deal got me a lordship under house Angelo with a imperial eagle on red background as my standard along with 7 minor lordships to be spread over the area of which we have been given to be assigned to the legates of the 4 legions, the vice Governor, leader of the skilled labour and we decided the admiral of the fleet should be given a lordship and the first settlement as his holdfast as a port town on the west coast of the land we have settled.
First thing we did after the initial building of the port settlement was to survey the land given to us and we decided to set up 4 forts at the four points of our new lands to help with the defence of our lands with the legates as the minor lords there. Another settlement was set up by the gold mine I was promised by the old gods which I put under the leadership of the vice governor as another minor lord and lastly a second port was set up further north than the first with the skilled labour leader as the minor lord to help build trade on the coast of that area as we decided to have the military fleet stationed closer to what we now known as the Iron Islands because of the warning we received from lord Stark and my own knowledge of them and we split what we could repair of the transport fleet between the two ports which totalled about 50 ships per port.
As for my own settlement I decided to set it up towards the middle of my domain where we can raise both crops and cattle as well as what horses survived the trip here. It took us two years to have all the settlements set up and running smoothly and the gold mine finally started producing plenty of ore to refine into coins which helped as we have run out of initial funds and we still have roads to build as well as trade to set up and iron ore to buy.
To say we had everything our way is wrong as once we found and built the gold mine we had to give a part of the mine to the Starks to keep the other houses from making to much of a fuss of things, also we had to show some steel as we had several raiding groups try and attack our caravans between settlements but they under estimated us and we found out through liberal means that Lord Bolton was upset with us having found the gold vein and decided to try and attack our ore shipments. In retaliation to this we followed one of the raiding parties back to a settlement in the edge of his lands and burnt it to the ground making it look like a wildling attack we hear happens so much. After that the raids stopped but from what I know of lord Bolton it wont last so I had someone sent to where I know his bastard will be in the future ready to make an example of him and save his legitimate heir and earn the favour of the future lord Bolton that may be taking the reigns a lot sooner than anyone would have guessed if I had anything to say about it.
OK so we now know the calendar of Westeros and I have a better idea of where we are in the story of things to come, we arrived in 284 AC and we are now in 287 AC towards the middle of the year and as things stand its time to start with the promised benefits we offered the north for us to settle as I have had word that the other lords are complaining about our increasing strength and riches and if we dont do something soon they may do something foolish like attacking us. So I called a meeting disguised as a harvest festival and asked all the lords of my territory to meet at my holdfast.

writers notes and responses to reviews
Thank you to the few reviews I have had and to answer them
I picked romans because I liked there discipline and combat effectiveness in there early roman legions and there ability to play politics with the best of them which is something it think the north dosnt have and if I want to story to go the way i want it to go then that's what the north needed(plus there a lot easier to keep supplied with weapons and have less bad habits. also most of the Napoleonic troops where mostly drafts or thugs looking for free food and rum and I didn't want to add more of that into planetos than already exists.)
As far as updates go I will try and do as much as I can when not working but I work retail and xmas is a really busy time for me and I know I could have sat on the story till i could mass release 50-70k words but I wanted to know what kind of interest my story would attract before dedicating that much time to it as I have other ideas for stories i may do after this one.
