Chapter 3: What's A Phone?

Ms. Alexandria looks at me and then at Mr. Hero, her eyes staying on the naked man far longer than on me.
"Magnus, I need you to stay here while I take Hero somewhere. He has….. a lot of things to catch up on." She closes the doors and locks them. "Door to Cauldron."
A hexagonal portal opens up near her, the place it displays is this marble-white interior of some kind. She motions Mr. Hero to follow her, which he does, but not before thanking me while struggling with the small blanket.
A few moments later, she comes through the same portal as it closes behind her. She was smiling.
"Thank you, Magnus. He is a good friend and I'm glad he gets to live again. But I need for you to not tell people about this." She gets a bit closer "People here are not…..accustomed to their friends being resurrected and if they found out that you can do that, they will never stop bothering you about it. They wouldn't care of the costs or how many times you can cast it." Oh, that would be a pain to deal with.
"Oh, Okay. What about the testing, I have a lot of other spells I can show you?" I start getting out my spell book before she raises her hand.
"That's fine. You can show them out while you're being a hero. Which reminds me, you haven't filled out your paperwork." Do I need paperwork? I don't think my papers from Cormyr are up to date.
"Paperwork? I thought I could just go out there and help." She chuckles.
"No, you need things like an ID, a place of residence, a bank account, and a hero name."
"I don't know what any of that means, the only things I can understand are a place of residence and bank account. What the hells is an ID?" It sounded strange to say.
She goes to the door and unlocks it before opening it, gesturing for me to follow her. We walk to another room with a stack of papers and Mr. Myrddin's scribbling stuff on it. What I can tell from the door, is something involving me.
"Myrddin," she starts as she walks inside, "He's in. And he is not at all from this earth. So, we need to set him up like he was a case 53. We could say that he is from another earth, like a dimensional hopper." She turns to me as I walk in, "Can you back and forth?" Huh.
"I have no idea, so it's best to think that I am stuck here." I go to sit on one of the chairs.
"Do you have a last name at least?" Mr. Myrddin asks as he is filling out a paper that designates my place of residence.
"I do, so my full name is Magnus Mysthaven." He writes that down, "So do I have to carry something, is that one of those ID things?"
"Yes, you do, both for your civilian things and your hero things. Me and Alexandria will know but it's for everyone else."
"What about that weird light brick that I saw some people use? Do I need one of those?" that stops them dead in their tracks both snapping their heads towards each other. Was it a touchy subject?
"it is something called a cellphone." Ms. Alexandria says slowly "We are going to explain to you what that is when we get you one but it lets you message and talk to people who also have one. It can reach very far."
"Oh, so it's like a non-magical [Sending], the spell only lets you send a 25-word message to someone but it can reach them regardless of where they are, even if they are in another plane."
"That is good to know." She finishes some paper she was writing on. "You'll be staying here till we can set you up somewhere to live. By the end of the day, you'll have a cellphone that is linked to your bank account. You'll also have an ID with all your information."
"But before we can continue, we are going to have a crash course on some of the things you'll need to know before you walk out there." Mr. Myrddin pulls out what looks like a large book. I already don't like where this is going.

My mind burns, why are there so many new rules to living? I slumped around the first-hour mark, my will being the only thing keeping me from teleporting away to just live in the woods. I was also told I cannot go and fight the Endbringers on the spot right now. Besides all that I know I can't just attack people and that I need to not kill people who I am trying to arrest. Things about how gold is no longer the standard for currency and it was this 'dollar' was also annoying. Something about this Crawler eating it all. I am to apprehend criminals and 'villains' via less-than-lethal means and wait for the local police or PRT agents to deal with them. I am also informed of how I can't just attack the villains in their homes because of the 'Unwritten rules'. Which sounds stupid since they can just break out of jail but Ms. Alexandria was firm on this point.
On the topic of what is on my ID, I am going to be registered as a Mover, since I informed them, I can teleport people across the world as long I know where I'm going which this 'phone' will help me do. Since the evaluation was positive, I will be considered the PRT's in-house healer and expect calls to help with that, at least in Chicago, and for the Endbringer fights. They will be compensating me for both of these via my account, which is also on the phone. Why is everything tied to this phone?
"Okay so in essence," I mutter as I fix my hat "no killing of villains, no killings of criminals, avoid a lot of property damage, and to be polite. Is there anything else I'm missing or do I get to read the history books now? I have to catch up on 2000-something years of history, which I have a spell to speed up but I want to start doing this patrolling thing. It sounds fun."
"We will get to that Magnus. Be patient." Mr. Myrddin says as he finishes up the documents involving my stay here. Ms. Alexandria made sure I would be paid a 'damn good wage' and all that. She left after the talk and gravitated to not killing villains in their homes to go do something.
"Do I have to use this phone all the time? It seems fragile and all these 'icons' annoy me. I can understand the uses for calling people or 'texting' them but what else is there?" I should probably enchant it or make a magic holder for it so I don't have to worry about it breaking if I drop it.
"Well, there you can look things up. This world pours a lot of information that can be freely accessed on the internet. Which you can use from the phone." Mr. Myrddin pulls out his phone to show me how to do it when I spot the other 'app' that was mentioned.
"What's that one?" I point to it, accidentally pressing it. It 'loads' on something called Parahumans Online for a moment before he presses the 'power' button, turning the screen off.
"That is something we will need to go over but right now I need to finish up getting your paperwork in order. Why don't you go and relax in your room, lunch is in about an hour from now so you'll have plenty of time to relax before we continue." I stand up and go towards the door before I remember to ask about my other thing.
"Do I have to decide on a hero name now? Can't I just go with my name?" he sighs "No you don't but using your real name means you'll be watched more." Oh. I mean it's not like I won't be noticed. My robes and hat are all I need for fashion and practicality.
"Okay. Goodbye, Mr. Myrddin." He does give that old man grunt as acknowledgement and I'm off to my room. Entering it and sitting on the bed, I wonder about what I will be doing long-term. Do I still do hero things or do I just make a pocket plane nearby and continue my research? Best to think of these things later. Oh yeah, the phone.
Pulling it out and turning it on, its couple of icons remind me of all the new things for me to try. I know Mr. Myrddin said that this PHO one is something I need to do with him or Ms. Alexandria buuuuuuut I want to try it first.
I press my finger on the icon and it starts to load.
