My pov
I wake up in my own room. I am now living in the gray abnegation house. Today is my 16 years old birthday but because I am abnegation, then I have to stay away from celebration because that is considered as self indulgent.
I get up and dressed in my grey robe . Today I may see my boyfriend Alan Davis from dauntless . We aren't allowed to interact with other faction members but I met him accidentally in school and we fall in love .
He is a lieutenant in dauntless and he can travel freely in the city. I brush my hair straight and sneak out my room. Today I have to cut my hair and that is the only time I am able to look at myself in the mirror .
"Celeste comes and sits down ." Mom beckons me
She already has the cutter in her hand . I sit down in front of the mirror and look at my own reflection. I am little pale and skinny. However I have the dimple cheek on my face which assemble my mom.
"Are you nervous for tomorrow ?" Mom smiles at me .
"No , the test doesn't has to change our choice." I shake my head
So the aptitude test is one of the most important test before the choosing ceremony . I mean the only important one because that will tell me which faction that I belong in the most.
"Yeah that's right. Today you have to go to school right?" Mom starts to trim my hair
"Yeah I have to." I nod at her . "I will be late tonight because I have to go to my friend house."
"Okay , Jason coulter right?" She asks
I nod at her but I feel guilty because I am going to see Alan Davis after school.
"He likes you so much . Doesn't he?" Mom giggles . "You can make your choice right now ."
"I don't think that we can make it into that relationship mom." I sigh. "I don't like him."
"I know that Celeste . I am sorry if you feel offensive ." Mom says
After she cuts my hair , she closes the panel .
"Thank you for cutting my hair mom." I say
I hug her and go downstair to join my dad and my sisters and brother . I have two sisters and one brother whose names are : beatrice , Caleb and Maria . Caleb and beatrice are 6 years younger than me but Maria is 8 years apart.
"Good morning sister ." Maria waves at me
"Morning sweetheart." I sing.
"You are happy today." Caleb doesn't look up at me .
Alan Davis pov
Today is Celeste's birthday. I know that abnegation doesn't celebrate birthday but I still want to give her something. I want to give her a pin that given by my mother . I want to tell her that she will be my first and last girlfriend .
"Good morning Alan." Max sits down beside me . "What are you thinking ."
"I am thinking will Celeste likes the gift or not." I look at max
"Celeste prior?" Max raises his eyebrows at me .
I nod at him. Max doesn't know that she is my girlfriend but I suspect that he already found out.
"She isn't good for you." Max says coldly. "Linda is far better than her . She is Jeanine's daughter and she can give you a brighter future ."
"Max , we are individual faction not ruling under erudite or something." I roll my eyes . "I am satisfy with my position already ."
I am angry with him. Why does he has the authority to tell me that she isn't good for me .
"I think that I should go and do some of my own business ." I grab my breakfast and leave
Celeste will come to dauntless if our relationship work out good , then she can Marry me as soon as the initiation finishes . I can't wait for her to say yes to me .
Someone stop me by the door . Linda Matthew , the daughter of Jeanine Matthew
"Morning mr Davis ." Linda folds her arms
"I don't want to see you ever again."I say coldly. "She will come here and I don't want her to know that you like me but I don't like you."
"She will not . She may even choose erudite . She was seeing Jason coulter , the leader of erudite ." Linda laughs
Jason coulter ? The new leader of erudite? Celeste told me that they are friends so I have to trust her . She is my baby girl for so long.
"Let go of me ." I push her away. "I am confident with our relationship."
"Oh you do! It seems like that you are jealous." Linda lifts her chin. "Max already knows your relationship with her . He will talk to her . She will know what is the most selfless act to do so."
Max will talk to Celeste! I can't let this to happen to her . I can't leave her alone with that bastard .
"She will not agree to the deal. She loves me and she will not let go of my hand ."
My pov
I walk to school with my sisters and brother . They are so quiet . I feel that my heart will jump out of my chest any second because I feel something isn't right.
"Is there any problem sister?" Beatrice says
"No , I am fine . I am just nervous." I smile at her
Yes I am a terrible liar. I promise to Alan that if our relationship worked good , I will choose dauntless . However I will have to think about my parent because that will make me selfish if I didn't.
We get to school on time and I let them go to their classroom alone . I am walking toward my history class room until someone stop me . Max , the mafia boss of dauntless
"Hello ms prior ." Max leans against the door . "Can I please talk to you!"
"I have to go to class." I say.
"You can go later . I talk to your teacher already. I am a leader of a faction so I can actually make decisions."max nods at me
I don't know why he wants to talk to me but I know that can't be good
"Sure sir ." I say
He walks me out of the school. We find a place to sit .
"So you know Alan Davis . My lieutenant right?" Max taps his fingers on the table
"Yes sir ." I answer
"You are his girlfriend." Max smiles at me
He looks kind and gentle but I still feel so chilly.
"Yes kind of ." I shrug
"I know that he loves you so much and he is planning to marry you but he has so many potential . You can give him nothing out of this Relationship so I suggest that you let him go." Max sighs . "It's a hard decision but you have to."
"However sir it is our freedom to choose who we love ." I clinch my fist
I don't know where the energy coming from but I know it is from my heart.
"I know but if your leaving can give him a better future , will you do it?" He says
"Yes I will. I will do it sir ." I am on the edge of crying.
"Don't tell him that you have saw me okay? Thank you Celeste ." Max says
He stands up and leaves . I watch him leave without getting anyone notice . Why I have to leave the man I love the most. I want to kiss him and I want to be brave because of him .
"Celeste?" Someone is calling me . I know it's him.
Alan Davis pov
I see that she is sitting at a corner . She doesn't look happy. I don't know what happen to her . Did she talks to max already? That can't be true . My selfless girl , please be selfish this time .
"Babe , are you okay." I hold her into my arms . "Don't cry."
"Alan, I ….." she doesn't know what to say
I grab her face and kiss her so hard . I don't want to hear those shitty words from her mouth.
"Celeste I love you. Don't ever let me go ." I am shaking. "Celeste just be selfish this time okay?"
"Okay." She closes her eyes . "I love you too."
I take out the pin from my pocket. She looks at it
"I know abnegation doesn't celebrate the birthday but I still want to give you something. It was given by my mom to me and I think that you will love it." I say
"I love it thanks Alan." She is singing like a bird
She is my future bride . I am so sure about it.
"Celeste , did you talk to max ?" I ask
"Who is max! I didn't even know him." She shakes her head
"He is the mafia boss of dauntless . Don't listen to him okay? We are perfect couple ." I smile at her
I see the corner of her mouth twitches . I know that she is lying. She must have been talking to him.
"Celeste you love me right? If you love me , don't ever let me go." I grab his hand . "Please."
"I will not leave you Alan." Celeste kisses my cheek
I believe her . I believe that she will not say those words to hurt me .
"Are you ready for tomorrow ?" I ask
"Yeah I am nervous but I know where I belong." She shrugs
"You know Jason coulter right? He likes you." I say sourly.
She looks at me . Then she blurts out into laughter
"Honey are you just jealous?" She blinks her big eyes at me
"I am sort of ." I am blushing.
"You are so honest." She pinches my face . " well I don't love him."
I was from Candor . I didn't tell her that.
"I was from Candor Celeste so I am pretty honest." I say
"Oh really? Then I should be honest with you. I have something to tell you . Meet me at my house tonight." She says
