Episode 129: A Tyrogue Full of Trouble

Mew and her friends continue their journey to Mahogany Town so Mew can compete for her next gym badge. The group continues to walk through a tunnel for a short cut, until they see a light at the end.

"Hey! Daylight!" Brock says.

"We must be arriving at our next destination," Mew says.

The group continue walking through the tunnel until they exit it. When they walk outside, they see a Tyrogue sitting on the ground with a blue handkerchief wrapped around its neck.

"It's a Tyrogue," Mew says.

She takes out her Pokeball

Mew brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Tyrogue, the Scuffle Pokémon. A Fighting Type. Tyrogue is the pre-evolved form of Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan and Hitmontop. It has a small but very energetic body."

"Well, I don't know about the energetic part," Jen says.

"There must be something wrong with this Tyrogue. It looks like it's unhappy," Misty says.

"Well, he's unhappy, alright, but about what?" Tomo wonders.

"I'll betcha that Tyrogue's hungry, that's all," Brock says and walks towards it.

He then holds out some Pokemon food, "Hey, little buddy, how about a snack? Made it myself."

Tyrogue turns away.

"Doesn't look hungry," Mew says.

"Maybe it doesn't like that kind," Misty suggests, "You got anymore, Brock?"

"I think so, let me check my bag," Brock says, and opens his backpack.

Suddenly, the Tyrogue steals the food in Brock's back and runs off.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" Brock shouts.

The Tyrogue soon stops and faces the group.

"You get back here right now!" Misty shouts.

"You can't just steal other people's food!" Mew calls out.

The Pokemon agree.

Just then, "Tyrogue lets out a cry, and upon doing so, acorns start raining down on Mew and the others, allowing Tyrogue time to escape.

"Wait up!" Mew calls out.

But before Mew can pursue the Tyrogue, a Mankey and a Primeape block the way before running off.

"A Primeape and a Mankey!" Misty says, shocked.

"They must be Tyrogue's friends!" Brock says.

Tyrogue gives his friend two canisters of food and they both proceed to escape.

"You're not getting away! Bayleef!" Mew says, and calls out her Pokemon.

Bayleef comes out.

Then Mew calls out, "Bayleef, Vine Whip attack, now!"

Bayleaf launches the attack, but Tyrogue quickly counters by throwing some Pokemon food at Bayleaf. Then performs a Swift Attack.

"What's that?!" Molly asks.

"That Tyrogue must seem to be as strong as it is slick and crafty!" Brock says.

"But you're still better, Bayleef!" Mew says.

Bayleef continues causing the Pokemon. Soon, the chase Tyrogue, Mankey and Primeape to climb onto a precarious looking rock, and when Bayleef's vines strike some of the rocks under it, the group and Bayleef look in shock as the rocks come tumbling down towards them while the three thieving Pokemon get off in time. Bayleef evades in time, but Mew and the others can't seem to do so until someone comes in and saves them by shattering the rocks alongside his Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.

The man shouts, "Lots of energy! Let's go!"

The group soon look upon their saviors while Tyrogue, Mankey and Primeape make their escape.

"Just let em go for now," The man says.

Then calls out to Mew and the others, "Hey, I hope you folks are alright!"

"Yeah, we're fine, thanks!" Mew says.

"That was awfully nice of you to help us out like that!" Misty says.

"No problem! Just glad you're safe!" The man says.

Then he and his Pokemon leap down to the group.

Then the man says, "I'm assuming since you're headed in this direction that you're on your way to Mahogany Town, am I right?"

"Yeah. We're on our way to the Mahogany gym so I can earn another badge and qualify for the Johto League," Mew says.

"That's quite a dream you have there kid," The man says.

"We've been at this for a while and so far, we've each earned six badges," Mew says, and shows her badges.

Soon, the man spots the Storm Bage, "Those are Storm badges! That means you each must've battled at the Cianwood gym with the legendary Master Chuck!"

"How do you know Master Chuck?" Everyone asks.

"That's right, I guess I should've told you earlier. I'm Master Chuck's protégé, Kiyo. Known for miles around as Black Belt Kiyo!" The man, Kiyo says.

Soon, the man Kiyo leads Mew and the others to a tranquil lake.

"So, what are you training for?" Tomo asks.

"It's called the P1 Grand Prix and it's a grueling event that will stretch competitors to their limits and decide the next P1 Grand Champion!" Kiyo says.

"I guess there's no better place to train than in the mountains, right?" Mew says.

"You can say that again. Running up and down these steep, wooded trails. I tell you, it sure puts you in tip-top shape," Kiyo says.

Miki: And I bet you swim in that lake often.

Soon, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee show up with baskets of bread.

"This may not be mom's home cooking, but please, dig in," Kiyo says.

Everyone replies, "Wow, thanks a lot, Kiyo."

Soon, everyone begins to have their lunch.

"Delicious," Mew says.

Then Brock says, "You know, I keep wondering why that Tyrogue ran off with all of our Pokemon food."

"That Tyrogue is always causing trouble for travelers and for the people who live down here in the foothills! I'm not sure what to do," Kiyo says.

"It's doing it just for kicks?" Brock says.

"Why does that sound so familiar?" Mew replies, thinking a bit.

Suddenly, someone calls out, "Kiyo!"

One of the people of the foothills comes running up.

"Hey, what's up?" Kiyo asks.

"I'm afraid that scoundrel Tyrogue is at it again," One of the villagers says.

"Well, we better go," Kiyo says.

Everyone arrives at a local farm and finds the whole place vandalized.

"Check it out!" Tomo says.

"You mean that little Tyrogue did this?"

"Fraid so, and this is just the tip of the iceberg! That Pokemon's vandalized the entire village!" The villager says.

"What a troublemaker!" Brock says.

While everyone's talking Togepi sees a Butterfree flying by and follows it as Tyrogue, Mankey and Primeape are seen riding the Tauros in the corral. Mew and Kiyo come running towards the trouble.

"There's the Tyrogue! Over there!" Mew says.

"I'm right with you, Mew!" Kiyo says.

Tyrogue and his pals suddenly cause the whole herd of Tauros to charge forward.

Mew cries out, "It's a stampede!"

"Everyone, run!" Kiyo shouts.

Meanwhile, Togepi keeps following the Butterfree until it spots the stampeding herd.

And soon, Misty spots Togepi, "Togepi!"

Tyrogue suddenly leaps off his Tauros and rescues Togepi, to Kiyo and Mew's surprise, before landing back on his Tauros while the farm hands go running.

"I'll handle this one!" Kiyo says.

Kiyo charges and grabs the lead Tauros by the horns and tries to force it back.

"Give it up! You won't be getting, past me!" Kiyo shouts.

Soon, Kiyo manages to push the lead Tauros back before forcing it to change direction. Tyrogue suddenly tosses Togepi to Kiyo, who manages to catch it.

Misty soon rushes over, "Togepi!"

Sparkle runs over in relief, "Pi Pi Pi!" (Togepi!)

Misty takes Togepi and happily says, "Oh. My little Togepi. Are you okay?"

Togepi confirms.

Kiyo watches as the herd, Tyrogue and his friends run off.

"Escaped again," Kiyo says.

Mew however is thinking about Tyrogue's actions.

Meanwhile, in the bushes nearby, Team Rocket saw the whole thing.

"That Tyrogue is certainly inspiring," James says.

"Yeah, seeings how dat Tyrogue tore it up wit dem Tauros out dere wit its daring actions and great aim, has inspired me to want it woiking on our team," Meowth says.

"Then, may I suggest to you both that, as Team Rocket scouts, we've scouted us up a winner," Jessie says.

"Wobb-uffet. (I'd say so.) Wobbuffet says.

"Losers, back to the showers," Jessie says as she calls back Wobbuffet.

"So why are we dawdling when we should be drafting?" Meowth asks.

James turns to Meowth, "You're so right. Let's go now and recruit our rookie of the year."

Jessie stands up, "And together, we shall hit a homerun right out of the ballpark!"

"Alright!" James and Meowth agree.

Back with our heroes inspecting the damaged fence.

And the villagers express their anger.

Farmhand #1: I have had it!

Farmhand #2: I think it's time we go to Officer Jenny!

Farmhand #3: I agree! That Tyrogue deserves to be thrown in jail, now!

But Kiyo says, "I understand your anger, but I have a better way of dealing with this!"

Farmhand #1: So? Speak your peace.

"If you'll just give me a little bit more time, I'm sure that I can change that Tyrogue for the better, but you've got to give me this one chance!" Kiyo says.

The three think about it.

Farmhand #1: Alright, Kiyo. If it means that much to you, then we'll give you that chance.

Farmhand #2: But mark my words, if it destroys one more inch of our property, that's it!

"Yes, I understand," Kiyo says.

With that, Kiyo heads into the forest, Mew and the others decide to help.

"It's not that Tyrogue is inherently bad, but it seems to have a real problem with other Pokémon larger than itself. And obviously with humans, too," Kiyo says.

"Yeah. Remember how it went out of its way to protect Togepi before?" Mew says.

"Hey, that's right, Misty!" Tomo says.

Then Kiyo says, "You know, my heart really goes out to the poor little thing."

Why do you say that?" Brock asks.

"That Tyrogue is an abandoned Pokémon," Kiyo says.

Everyone is in shock over the revelation, "Abandoned Pokémon?!"

"That's right," Kiyo says, "Apparently his trainer just left him right in the middle of some very rigorous training."

Flashback:

Kiyo is meditating under a waterfall, and notices the Tyrogue as it stumbles and collapses, so Kiyo runs to it.

Kiyo explains, "When I first saw Tyrogue, he was so weak and hungry, he couldn't walk."

And soon, Kiyo is seen feeding Tyrogue something so he could get his strength back. But once he awakens, Tyrogue violently reacts before wincing from a lack of energy. Kiyo tries to help him, but Tyrogue tackles him to force him back while he walks away.

Kiyo explains, "His trainer's betrayal had left Tyrogue enraged and bitter. In order to cope with the overwhelming sadness from being abandoned, Tyrogue's heart became, hardened, cold, like ice."

Flashback ends:

"I thought that was the case," Mew says.

Everyone turns to Mew in confusion.

"Truth is, the way it's acting, it kind of reminded me of Squirtle. Like Tyrogue, Squirtle was also abandoned by his trainer, and along with other abandoned Squirtles caused all kinds of trouble. My friends and I were part of the reason why Squirtle and the others turned their lives around, and they helped put out a forest fire. I traveled with Squirtle, who was the leader of the Squirtle Squad until he decided to return to his group to continue being the firefighter with officer Jenny."

Brock soon remembers, "You're right. Squirtled acted the same way and caused trouble for humans."

"Sounds to me that we have quite a bit in common. Just like you wanted to help Squirtle, I plan to help Tyrogue," Kiyo says.

Then Tomo turns to Kiyo, "So, how're you gonna help him?"

"I'm certain that Tyrogue has great power and I want to test his strength and have him battle with me in the P1 Grand Prix right alongside Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee!" Kiyo says.

"The combination of Tyrogue's awesome power and your wisdom and energy would be unstoppable!

"I'm sure that you would win it," Misty says.

"It's more than that. I must melt Tyrogue's heart! And soon," Kiyo says.

Meanwhile, Tyrogue and his friends come across an apple tree. On Tyrogue's orders, Mankey and Primeape knock some apples down. Tyrogue catches one, but before he can eat, he spots a Hoppip, a Skiploom and a Sandshrew behind him. Tyrogue tells his cohorts to share the apples with the three Pokémon, and they soon do so.

However, Jessie's voice appears, "Yoo-hoo! Sweet Tyrogue! As spokesperson for Team Rocket, I cordially invite you to join up."

"Yes, we're all pretty nasty in our own dysfunctional ways," James says.

Then Meowth says, "So join us in da next ten minutes and we'll include, free of charge, a beautiful Team Rocket drinking glass wit your membership, paid up, of course, so don't delay. Operators are standin' by!"

"I agree that smoldering anger can be attractive, but," Jessie says, snatching Sandshrew's apple, "That can get old.

But just before Jessie can take a bite, Tyrogue gets an angry look, and with a gleam in his eye, he Headbutts Jessie and proceeds to attack the rest of Team Rocket hard enough to send them blasting off.

Team Rocket cries out, "WHY?! Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" and blasted off.

After that, Tyrogue returns the apple to Sandshrew before he and his friends head on their way.

Sometime later, Kiyo, Mew, and the others arrive at an open area."

"This is one of Tyrogue's favorite spots," Kiyo says.

Then Kiyo calls out, "Come on out, Tyrogue! How about a little friendly battling?!"

Hitmonchan calls out, "Hitmonchan!" (Come and face us!)

"Hitmonlee!" (We're ready for you!) Hitmonlee calls out

"Come on!" Kiyo calls out.

And soon enough, Tyrogue shows up.

"Tyrogue!" Jen calls out.

"Amaura!" (You're here!) Amaura says.

"I've been looking forward to a battle with you for a long, long time, Tyrogue," Kiyo says.

Tyrogue tells Mankey and Primeape to stand back as he steps forward.

"Tyrogue," (I'll fight.) Tyrogue says, and positions himself to fight.

Kiyo calls out, "Go, Hitmonchan, now!"

Hitmonchan charges in but Tyrogue doesn't seem phased.

Alright. Comet Punch attack, Hitmonchan!" Kiyo calls out.

Hitmonchan throws Comet Punch after Comet Punch, but Tyrogue easily dodges them all.

"It's not getting hit at all," Tomo says.

"Tyrogue can read Hitmonchan's punches just as fast as they can be thrown!" Brock says.

Misty cheers, "Come on, Hitmonchan, you can do it!"

"Pika Pika!" (You can nail him!) Sparkle cheers.

"Now put your heart into it! Finish the job with your Mega Punch!" Kiyo calls out.

Hitmonchan closes in fast, but Tyrogue jumps out of the way while Hitmonchan's attack destroys a rock. Tyrogue then points straight down and nails Hitmonchan on the head with a Headbutt.

"Oh no!" Everyone cries out.

And soon, Hitmonchan falls over, KO'd.

"Hitmonchan, return!" Kiyo says, and calls back his Pokemon.

Then Kiyo calls out, "Let's go, Hitmonlee!"

Hitmonlee charges in.

"Now let's show Tyrogue the power of your Rolling Kick!" Kiyo commands.

Hitmonlee throws the attack, but Tyrogue dodges it easily before leaping back and using Double Team.

"What's that?" Molly asks.

"It's Double Team!" Brock says.

"How do you battle against that?" Jen asks.

Hitmonlee attacks, but hits one of the fakes.

"Hitmonlee can't tell which one of them is the real Tyrogue!" Brock says.

Tyrogue makes itself known and nails Hitmonlee Headbutt, taking him out, to the shock of everyone.

"That's a hard hit," Mew says.

Knocked out, Kiyo calls back Hitmonlee, "Okay, Hitmonlee, return."

"Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, you both fought well and did your best. I'm proud of you," Kiyo says.

Tyrogue smirks at his triumph, when a rope suddenly comes down and wrangles him.

"Tyrogue!" The girls cry out.

Kiyo shouts, "Hey! What's the meaning of this?!"

Suddenly they hear Team Rocket laugh with triumphantly wicked glee in their Hot Air Balloon.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble as Tyrogue sails away!

James:

And make it double, cause we really can't stay!

Jessie:

POW!

We see Jessie dressed like a boxer in a loose pink singlet with a white R and shorts with a sports bra underneath. Wearing red boxing gloves.

Jessie:

To protect the world with a mean right hook!

And James is wearing a white tank top with a black R on it and purple shorts. Wearing black boxing gloves.

James:

Wham! To unite all peoples with my kickboxer look!

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of honest fights.

James:

To extend our odds and punch out your lights.

Jessie:

Jessie!

James:

James!

Jessie:

And, Team Rocket's the winner at the speed of light!

James:

So surrender at once, cause we've just won this fight!

Meowth:

Dat's right!

And Meowth rings a ring bell.

"Team Rocket!" Mew and her friends shout at dismay.

Then Mew says, "You just don't know when to quit!"

"We have Tyrogue all tied up in our new Team Rocket recruitment agreement," Jessie says.

"What's that supposed to mean?!" Tomo asks.

"It means that Tyrogue here has become a newly appointed member!" James says.

"Dat make be, but with a bit of force, his gift for mischievous deeding will come in handy. We also like da smashing and wrecking stuff, too," Meowth says.

"Wobbuffet," (That's right!) Wobbuffet says.

"Now this is a blast!" Team Rocket says.

Soon, the balloon is floating away.

Mew runs after them, "You won't get away with this!"

"Pika Pika! ("Hold on, Tyrogue!")

"Eevee!" (We'll save you!) Eevee calls out.

Kiyo runs past Mew, "That's right!"

Kiyo continues the chase up a mountain before leaping and landing on Team Rocket's balloon.

"What was dat?" Meowth asks

"Shall we just prepare to blast off?" James questions.

"Wobbuffet," (Possibly.) Wobbuffet answers.

Up on the balloon, Kiyo punches a hole right through the canvas, causing the balloon to lose altitude.

"We're dropping like a dumbbell!" Meowth cries out.

Kiyo proceeds to slide down the rope to Tyrogue.

"Don't worry, my friend. Nothing is going to hurt you anymore," Kiyro says.

Kiyo then drops to the ground and manages a safe landing with Tyrogue in his arms while Team Rocket crashes into the cliffs.

"Tyrogue, are you alright?" Kiyo akss.

Suddenly, as Tyrogue answers, a boulder comes down towards them both.

"Oh no!" Kiyo calls out.

Tyrogue braces for the end, but Kiyo saves him by stopping the boulder with his bare hands.

Holding the boulder, Kiyo says, "Tyrogue, I believe in you! I know what you've been through! You've got to forgive and forget the past! But now you've got to believe in me! I need you to trust in me, Tyrogue! You've got to open up your heart!"

As Kiyo struggles and Tyrogue stares in bafflement, Team Rocket steps in.

"That cheap, old muscle trick again?" Jessie says.

Then James says, "Come on back with us, Tyrogue, and tag along with our team. We're more fun."

"Yeah, who needs dat Atlas wannabe when you can come with us and be a real tower of strength!" Meowth says.

"Wobbu!" (Join us!) Wobbufet says.

But Mew's voice calls out, "Hold on!"

"Oh, they sent in the twerp reserve," Jessie says.

They see Mew and the others with Mankey and Primeape.

Brock throws his Pokeball and calls out, "Go, Onix!"

Onix then comes out of the Pokeball.

Brock calls out, "Onix, get that boulder outta here!"

Onix rams the boulder over towards Team Rocket while the group checks on Kiyo and Tyrogue.

"Hey, Kiyo," Tomo says.

"Are you hurt?" Jen asks.

"You kidding? I do that every morning before breakfast! We'll be just fine," Kiyo says.

Tyrogues looks at Kiyo, Kiyo looks at him and nods, and Tyrogue smiles and nods back.

"Alright, enough of dat mush! Now it's time for da crush!" Meowth says.

"Yeah! We won't give it back without a fight!" Jessie says.

"And fighting for things that don't belong to us is our specialty!" James says.

"Wobbuffet," (That is right.) Wobbuffet adds.

Jessie calls out her Pokemon, "Alright, Arbok, go!"

"You, too, Weezing!" James calls out his Pokemon.

Both Pokemon come out of their Pokeballs.

Jessie calls out, "Arbok, Poison Sting attack, now!"

Go, Weezing! Sludge attack!" James calls out.

The attacks fire.

"Onix, stay and take it!" Brock calls out.

"Onix does so.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, give em a Thunderbolt, now!"

Pikachu fires the attack and it counters the Sludge attack. The electric shock hits Weezing, sending it flying into Arbok.

"Alright, Onix, Tackle attack!" Brock calls out.

Onix charges in, and sends Team Rocket flying.

"If we leave the fight early, do we lose?" James questions.

Then Meowth shouts, "Do you suppose we could just say dat we had to catch a flight?!"

"Yeah, a flight of fancy!" Jessie says.

"Here we go!" James and Meowth say.

Team Rocket cries out, "Cue the blast off line!"

"WOBBU!" (Help me!) Wobbuffet cries out.

Later, back at Kiyo's cabin, he and Tyrogue are about to square off.

"Tyrogue, I now challenge you to do battle with me, the remarkable Black Belt!" Kiyo says.

Tyrogue agrees.

"I can't believe Kiyo himself is fighting the last round," Misty says, amazed.

"His instructor, Master Chuck, teaches that in a true battle, there's no difference between Pokemon and humans," Brock says.

Tyrogue takes his stance.

"Look at that pose. Tyrogue sure means business," Tomo says.

"Loetta," (I'll say.) Meloetta says.

"And that look of concentration is amazing," Misty says.

Then Brock says, "I think Kiyo really got through to Tyrogue. There won't be any fooling around in this match."

"Yeah. It's going to be an intense match," Mew says.

"Now, the final battle. Let's get busy!" Kiyo says, and takes his stance.

Tyrogue charges in, but Kiyo blocks his opening attack.

"What's wrong? Is that ALL you can do?" Kiyo calls out.

Tyrogue leaps back and uses Double Team.

"There's that Double Team," Misty says.

"I wonder if Kiyo can find the real Tyrogue," Brock says.

As the Tyrogue clones circle Kiyo, he simply sits down, looks and waits before focusing until the real Tyrogue appears and attacks, just in time for Kiyo to block.

"He did it!" Brock shouts.

"Awesome!" Mew cheers.

"Eevee!" (Wicked!) Eevee says, amazed.

Then Kiyo strikes with one palm strike, Tyrogue is sent flying, but Tyrogue stops himself and throws a leaping kick, which Kiyo blocks. Tyrogue charges again, but Kiyo counters easily and throws him into the lake.

"Alright!" The Pokemon cheer.

"Great throw by Kiyo! He turned Tyrogue's attack completely around!" Brock cheers.

Tyrogue falls to his knees, knowing he was defeated as his handkerchief comes off before Kiyo picks Tyrogue up and carries him to shore.

"It is my wish that we live and train together," Kiyo says, "We'll enter the P1 Grand Prix and win it! Alright with you?"

Tyrogue thinks about it as Kiyo removes his red armband and ties it around Tyrogue's neck.

"I promise that I'll never leave you. Allow me to train with you and let me prove it," Kiyo says.

Tyrogue looks at Kiyo, considers it, and smiles and nods in agreement.

"It's decided! We have a deal!" Kiyo says.

"That's so great, Tyrogue!" Mew says.

"Pika Pika." (I'll say it is,) Pikachu says.

"Wow, Kiyo. You really got through to him," Brock says.

Both Primeape and Mankey wonder what they should do.

But Kiyo already has an idea and says to the pair, "Primeape, Mankey, I want you to come along."

The two Pig Monkey Pokemon happily agree as everyone laughs. Later, everyone bids Kiyo and his new Pokemon farewell.

"Buh-bye! Good luck! Show em who the winners are!" Mew calls out.

"Pika Pika!" (See ya, Tyrogue!) Pikachu calls out.

"Eevee!" (Good luck, guys!) Eevee says.

"You'll do great!"

"Good luck in the P1 Grand Prix! Bye!" Misty says.

"We're rooting for you!" Jen says.

"And tell Master Chuck that we all say hello!" Brock says.

"Goodbye!" Molly says.

"I will! Mew, good luck in the Mahogany gym!" Kiyo says.

Mew and the others leave to say farewell to their friends. They also have learned a valuable lesson about the healing power of true friendship, while the next battle, and the next badge, wait just ahead.
