Age 749 is a very historical moment in history, despite how simple it seems during the moment. In this year, a young girl by the name of Bulma discovered a Dragon Ball within her basement, inspiring her to search out the other six. This would lead to her meeting a young boy with a monkey tail named Son Goku, who protected the Four Star Dragon Ball, a possession of his late Grandpa Gohan. Joining Bulma on her journey, the duo would come across many different things that would influence Goku's world views, including his love and passion for martial arts. A passion that would turn him into one of Earth's grandest protectors. Now though, he currently stands in front of an old friend from a short childhood he had long forgotten.
Ayote stood in disbelief, unsure of how to process her feelings at the moment. She actually looked ready to cry since, despite the boy in front of her looking like the baby in the nursing tank all those years ago. But then Roshi stepped up to her.
Roshi: "Ayote. Are you okay, dear?"
Ayote: "Ah… M-Master Roshi… I'm sorry… Goku, was it?"
Goku: "Yep! …Why are you crying, lady?"
Ayote: "It's because… you look like a friend who… I looked forward to working and getting along with…"
Goku looks at Ayote, a bit confused but he did have a strange feeling he had met the girl somewhere before. The blue haired lady then piped up.
Bulma: "Sorry to interrupt, but I couldn't help that you have a Dragon Ball around your neck, sir."
Bulma points to the ball ornament hanging around Roshi's neck. Ayote looked at the necklace before then turning to the other girl.
Ayote: "Dragon Ball? What's that?"
Bulma: "It's these orbs that can grant any wish once you collect all seven of them! At the moment, me and Goku have three of them."
Ayote: "Any… wish… Does that include… bringing back the dead?"
Roshi took a pause, adjusting his sunglasses. Were these mystical balls truly that powerful? Though Bulma decides to be a bit coy and give a 'maybe' type of answer.
Bulma: "It miiight~ If your old man can hand over the Dragon Ball~"
This non answer doesn't sit well with Roshi, but Ayote does seem enticed by the prospect of a wish to revive someone. So rather than tell Bulma off, Roshi decides to make a deal with the girl.
Roshi: "Alright, young lady. I don't like how you messed with Ayote's expectations like that. But I'm willing to overlook that under one condition… You agree to take her with you. Do that, the Dragon Ball is your's."
Bulma: "Really? That easy? Well… Sure. I don't mind."
Ayote: "Whoa, wait, Master Roshi. Why do you want me to travel with them? Not that I mind, but…"
Roshi: "Ayote, you can't limit your world views to just the few places I'm capable of taking you. I'm far too old to give you a proper tour of the world and… I'd like for you to learn on your own from here. And besides… You need friends more your age."
Ayote looked at her mentor and father figure with a… very sad look. She knew Roshi was right and that she needed to eventually go on her own. Without any resistance, she nods before embracing Roshi. Goku looked at this embrace, smiling a bit as he was reminded of him and his grandpa. Ayote then stands back as Roshi looks to Goku.
Roshi: "By the way, Turtle tells me you were the one that helped him. Is that right?"
Goku: "Hm? If you mean that Bear Thief guy, yeah. He wasn't too hard."
Roshi nods before calling out for the Flying Nimbus, a yellow cloud flying down from the skies to greet the group. The old man explains that only a pure hearted person can use it, feeling Goku is perfect to utilize it. Goku hops onto the Flying Nimbus and comfortably stays on top of it. With the Dragon Ball, a new Flying Nimbus, and a new ally, Goku, Bulma, and Ayote follow the Dragon Ball Radar's signal to the next Dragon Ball ahead.
A day after their encounter with Master Roshi, the trio take a moment to rest up, since their trip to the next Dragon Ball was going to be a while. One thing Bulma quickly finds out is that Ayote and Goku are very similar beyond just having tails; they have a very massive appetite, especially when it comes to meat. Their voracious appetite would be downright terrifying to anyone's saved up Zenni bank since they could probably eat out a whole restaurant's menu in a single sitting. After eating their fill, the two sigh softly.
Ayote: "Goodness, you ate about as much as me. I almost wondered if this was some kind of competition of who could eat the most dinosaur."
Goku: "We could make it a competition next time! But man, after a meal like that, I could do with some exercise."
Bulma: "Well, why not a few laps then? You know, run off the meal."
Ayote: "Actually, Goku. I'm curious just how tough you are. So how about a spar?"
Goku: "Well… I would, but my grandpa told me that I should respect women."
Ayote: "Did he now?"
Ayote looked a bit annoyed at that and reacted accordingly; vanishing and slamming a kick right at Goku's face and sending him flying to a mountain wall, impacting it hard enough to leave a crater. Goku's eyes were swirling from that hit as he slowly flopped to the ground. Bulma was freaking out over that cheap shot and how that could've killed Goku.
Bulma: "A-Are you crazy!? First off, h-how did you do that!? And don't you think that was a little strong!?"
Ayote: "You'll find I hate being looked down on. I may be a girl, but that shouldn't mean anything when I can hit just as hard, if not harder, than any guy you'll ever meet!"
Goku soon gets up, rubbing the spot he was kicked before he smirked. A competitive look was written on his face now as he put his Power Pole to the side.
Goku: "Okay. I guess I shouldn't have assumed you were like Bulma. I'm sorry, Ayote. If you want to spar, let's go."
Ayote smiled as she got into a fighting stance, as did Goku. Bulma, seeing just where this was going, makes a quick dash for cover. Goku immediately rushes at Ayote and starts fighting her. Though unfortunately for Goku, the fight ends with a single kick from Ayote, sending him into the air and landing with a knockout.
Ayote: "...Well, that was anticlimactic."
Bulma: "Huh? That was it? …Gosh, you don't look that strong yet you just…"
Ayote: "I was trained under Master Roshi. And trust me, that did help a lot. Though I can't say my base power grew much."
Bulma wasn't quite sure what Ayote meant, but she did come out of hiding. Ayote sighs before sitting down, looking at Bulma. As the silence starts to settle in, Bulma decides to bring up a question.
Bulma: "So you called Goku 'Kakarot'. Are you two related? Like brother and sister?"
Ayote: "Not really… But we are of the same race. You see, we aren't exactly human… let alone Earthlings. We're actually a race called 'Saiyans'."
Bulma: "Saiyans? Wait… As in 'aliens'?"
Ayote nods before leaning in, putting her hands together.
Ayote: "I guess to you we are. Realistically, you'd be an alien to me."
Bulma: "Oh… Yeah, that's a good point. Well, what are you Saiyans like?"
Ayote: "Hmmm… How do I put it…? The Saiyans aren't… exactly good people."
Ayote began to go into how the Saiyans operated, much to Bulma's shock. The very idea that Ayote and Goku were part of such a cruel race just seemed unbelievable.
Ayote: "It's not that there weren't exceptions. Some of the Saiyans that I knew - my mom, Bardock, and his crew - were actually respectable. While they still did do horrible things, there was at least a sense of loyalty. Gine though was unlike any other Saiyan. She disliked the idea of killing which, to the eyes of any other Saiyan, made her seem weak. But to me, she was strong in her own way and my mom recognized that too. After all, she gave birth to Kakarot."
Bulma then turned to Goku, shocked to hear that there were, in fact, good Saiyans. Ayote finishes by saying that her and Kakarot's presence on Earth was not an act to subjugate the planet like their kin, but to escape destruction. But before Bulma could inquire more, Goku wakes up, feeling a sharp pain in his head.
Goku: "Owww… Man, Ayote, you have a heck of a right hook."
Ayote: "I was holding back too. Sorry about that, Goku."
Goku: "Wait, you were holding back!? Geez… I am no match for you."
Ayote: "Hah! Don't worry. You'll catch up; I believe in you."
Goku looked at the ground with a stern expression before looking back up at Ayote.
Goku: "Can you please train me? So I can catch up?"
Ayote: "Train you?"
Ayote looked at Goku, thinking about the idea for a moment before smirking.
Ayote: "How about a deal instead?"
Goku: "A deal?"
Ayote places a hand on Goku's head and starts ruffling his hair as she smiles.
Ayote: "I'd rather see you grow on your own. As in getting strong through your own merits. Just like I did with Master Roshi. And if you get to a point where you can beat me… Then I'll fight you at my best. No holding back."
The idea of fighting Ayote at her best did seem to excite Goku, the sparkles in his eyes indicating such. Bulma did find this interaction endearing, though one thing did peck at her mind. Would Ayote tell Goku about his origins? Next time the opportunity arose, she'd ask the girl about it.
After a couple of days later, the trio arrive to Aru Village, a village under the fear of a mischief-making shapeshifter named Oolong. At first the village seemed to mistake them for Oolong, but soon come to realize their mistake and explain that their girls have been taken by this Oolong in order to find a bride. Bulma then sees an old lady, Lady Paozu, holding a Dragon Ball. In return for catching this fiend and releasing the girls, the trio would receive the Dragon Ball as a reward. That's when Bulma hatches a plan…
Ayote: "Wait. You want me to pretend to be that girl, Pocawatha, in order to have this Oolong take me to the other girls?"
Bulma: "Mmhm! That's the idea!"
Ayote: "Why can't you do it? I'm all for helping these people out, but I'm not exactly the pinnacle of beauty here."
Bulma blushed at the implications, quite flattered at the compliment, but she quickly shook her head.
Bulma: "Ahem. Well, you're quite strong and could defend yourself much better than I could. I'd ask Goku, but-"
Goku: "No way! You are not catching me wearing a dress!"
Ayote looks at the two before sighing. She takes the dress and disguises herself, hiding her tail by wrapping it around her leg. She comes back dressed as the village girl, hiding her face with a face mask mostly out of embarrassment.
Bulma: "I-Is the face mask necessary, Ayote?"
Ayote: "Unless you plan on swapping places with me, you might want to shut it."
The villagers call out, saying Oolong was on his way, leaving Ayote to be escorted out to meet the monster, a red oni-like monster wearing a wedding suit and holding a bouquet. Ayote stared up at the monster, seeing why he would seem intimidating… despite having such a low energy level. In fact, she detected something wasn't quite right with the monster.
Oolong: "Ah, Pocawatha, my beloved. I'm so glad you came out to greet me. I hope you didn't wait long."
Ayote: "Uh… N-Not long at all…"
Oolong: "What's wrong? …Oh, I get it. You're intimidated by my form! Don't worry! I'll assume something less intimidating!"
Smoke then appeared out of nowhere as Oolong then took the appearance of a handsome young man, still in a wedding suit and holding a bouquet.
Oolong: "Swooned, my dear? Don't worry, my crispy bacon. I'll be sure to treat you to the time of your life."
Ayote was getting increasingly uncomfortable as Oolong leaned in, getting way too touchy for her. In fact, Oolong even moved his hand to behind Ayote and reached where he shouldn't, tapping a finger on her tail. This caused Ayote to finally lose control.
Ayote: "GO AWAY!"
Ayote immediately unleashes a short burst of ki from her hands onto Oolong out of panic. Everyone in the village freaks out at Ayote's… very explosive outburst, but Bulma was concerned she may have killed their only chance to save the other girls. But thankfully, by some miracle, Oolong was still alive though burnt and laying in a crater, returned to his true form - a pig in what could only be described as a communist outfit.
Ayote: "Bulma! From now on, you're doing the disguising! No ifs, ands, or buts, except your ass in this dress for some PERVERTED PIG!"
Ayote was clearly stressed and Bulma was in no camp to argue. She simply raised her hands as she smiled awkwardly. After assessing the situation, Oolong wakes up, tied to Goku's Power Pole by some rope like bait on a basic stick fishing pole.
Oolong: "Ugh… What happened…? I remember screaming then… a bright flash…"
Oolong then notices he's surrounded by the villagers and the heroes, making him sweat bullets as he realizes what kind of trouble he was in. With little persuasion, Oolong releases the girls he had taken, revealing that all of them were quite spoiled and that he was looking for someone a little less. The village, grateful for Goku and co.'s help, gives them the Dragon Ball to add to their collection. As the trio leave, Ayote notices Bulma taking Oolong with them on the trip.
Ayote: "Um… Bulma. Why are we taking the pig with us?"
Oolong: "I have a name you know!"
Bulma: "I figured his shapeshifting abilities would be pretty useful in the long run. If we run into any trouble, he could turn himself into something to help us out."
Oolong: "And why would I?"
Bulma looks at Ayote, hoping she would be on board with the idea. Ayote lets out a sigh before charging ki in her palm and reminding Oolong just what he'd get if he didn't agree to help them. This rightly shuts Oolong up as the trio continue on their journey. But unbeknownst to them, a couple of figures watch from afar, holding a Dragon Radar of their own as to confirm the trio had Dragon Balls on them. One of them, having a feminine voice, calls into a radio.
Female Pursuer: "Emperor Pilaf, sir. We have confirmed the location of five of the other Dragon Balls. They are heading through the Diablo Desert."
Another voice sounds from the speaker of the radio, this one sounding scrawny and hoarse.
Pilaf: "Excellent, Mai. Continue to pursue but don't engage. With any luck… They'll just hand deliver the Dragon Balls to me!"
Mai: "Of course, Emperor Pilaf. Mai, over and out."
The figures continue to observe before revealing themselves - one being a black haired, militaristic young woman wearing a long coat, while the other was a brown furred dog person dressed as a black ninja. The duo nod to each other before following the traveling trio on their way to the Diablo Desert.
