Authors Note: Hey you'll, chapter 4 and big changes will be happening in this story, which means events slowly coming together and eventually diverting from canon. The Soul Eater verse does keep some things vague so I'll be using some of my own headcanons to fill in the gaps, especially when it comes to world building and the DWMA's place among the world Governments. Things will get insane the end of this chapter. Once again pls comment or review if you are enjoying the story.

Light Hero Kaiser: Yes, that will be one of the first big changes happening in this story. Suzaku getting blackblood will set multiple other important events in motion.
Suzaku awoke at dawn, watching the sun rise, chasing away the pale darkness of the night. Shifting in his hospital bed, he reached for a neatly arranged basket that had appeared on his night stand. A colorful range of fruits, accompanied by multiple get well letters dotted the table. Picking up a small, blue card, from the pile, its presence was enough to crack a smile on the boy's face. From the flowery handwriting, he could tell it was from Nunnally, and another, from BlackStar, having a crude drawing of the meister's face with a big thumbs up, on the back.
His friends back in class Crescent Moon wished him well, and even included some answers to the next pop quiz in some of their messages in his absence. Having suffered multiple injuries from the previous hunt, he was confined to the academy's infirmary until he was judged of sound body and mind to be released back into the school, the thin walls of the medical facility being his only company for the past few days. Sorting through a few more well wishing messages, his attention shifted to the otherside of the room, where he spotted a familiar face.
"Hey, haven't seen you in a while," Suzaku greeted the medical intern, who placed his work bag on one of the desks. Settling down, the dark haired boy smiled back in acknowledgement. In the past few days, he had been absent from the infirmary, leaving only Doctor Medusa and a few nurses to help the sword meister recover from his injuries.
"Likewise, are you recovering well?" Spoken pleasantly, the intern pulled out a clipboard from one of the cabinets, along with a student file attached.
"Pretty much. Doctor Medusa is discharging me today, so I can head back to class this afternoon" At the mention of his senior, Suzaku could have sworn he saw the intern's eye twitch, but it could have been his imagination at work.
"That's reassuring, be sure to take your medication as directed when you relocate back to your dorm, as well. You won't recover fully until you finish what we've prepared for you here." Handing the brunette a prepared batch of medicine on a tray, the intern directed Suzaku on the dosage. However, one batch was missing from the usual prescriptions.
"Is there a reason that one is missing?" Checking the list, Suzaku questioned why the herbal remedy from doctor Medusa was absent from the medications prescribed. During his stay, the doctor had noted his occasional coughs that hacked up tiny bits of black blood, giving him a common prescription to treat the condition. She claimed it was not unusual for blood to dry and appear black when in contact with the open air, reassuring the meister that he just needed time and rest to recover fully.
"Quite. Your records tell me that you are well enough to be taken off that prescription now. Once you take the rest, you'll be as fit as you started here at the acadmacy"
"Thanks-...uhhh, I never got your name the last time you were around" Scratching his head sheepish, Suzaku reached out a hand to introduce himself formally to the intern. "My name is Suzaku Kururugi, a meister at the academy, you may already know that by now tho."
Taking his hand in a firm handshake, the raven haired boy smiled, "I'm Lelouch Kingsley, a medical intern currently studying at the DWMA."
And with that, the two's conversation drifted, going from small talk to random chit chat about the world that surrounds them. But during this casual exchange, there was something that could have been easily missed if one chose to look away. As, upon taking Lelouch's hand, a small piece of paper slipped into his palm. And later, he would find a hidden, untouched batch of herbal medication in one of the unused corners of the medical office.
Opening the double doors to classroom Crescent Moon, Suzaku was welcomed inside by a spray of confetti, showering him from the outside, while numerous students congrating him on his return.
"Heya, we missed you the past week, glad you're finally back on your feet" Soul greeted the brunette, along with his group of friends.
"We hope that the gift basket we sent helped you recover, it's full of the best selections from the market," Tsubaki smiled, with Nunnally running past her, practically tackling Suzaku to the ground from her sudden surprise hug.
"Suzaku! Never do that again, we were so worried when you collapsed like that!" the girl looked like she was almost in tears. Her face was red hot from worry of what could have happened. Nunnally could be stubborn, very stubborn when she put her mind to it.
"HAHAHA! Looks like you recovered by the grace of the great and powerful BlackStar! I knew nothing could take you out as long as I was cheering for ya!" Joining the growing dogpile, the assassin meister leapt out from his seat, tackling the already downed Suzaku, causing him to cringe from the pain.
"Guys, please. I'm ok now. Please get off-"
"Are we having a dogpile party?!" Patty shot up, following in the footsteps of her two former friends by crushing the poor brunette even more.
"Ack! seriously?" Struggling to free himself from being crushed alive, Suzaku tried to reach his arm out, attempting to crawl out before any more people decided to pile on him. However, between Nunnally's bear grip and BlackStar's weight, it was impossible and he was losing his breath.
"Everyone! Get off of him right now!"
CHOP
Maka pulled the stubborn students away one by one, finally freeing Suzaku from his death sentence. It was all too amusing as when he recovered, he noticed how professor Stein had not interfered once in the insanity, instead choosing to watch the carnage from the sidelines with a mirthful glint in his eyes. Beside him, a morbid display of a rare bird carcass strapped down for dissection. In the rows before him sat bored students, who were all too desensitized to their teacher's bizarre antics.
"Ok, kids, now I know having Suzaku back has been exciting but you can all resume your little reunion after class," clapping his hands, gesturing the welcome party to go back to their seats, everyone followed suit, already sensing an immediate spike in wrath if they did not do what they were told. Despite being an instructor at the academy, Stein could get away with more stuff than most, and this included the disciplining of unruly students who crossed the line. His simple threats of dissection was enough to keep most inline, with even the likes of BlackStar having some levels of healthy respect to not cross the man.
Shuffling back to their assigned seats, Nunnally had a certain weight in her chest. Having Suzaku back was certainly a relief but the foggy memories of the previous events that landed him in the state that he did was enough to trouble her soul. From the way the DWMA had acted to conceal the situation, to her own inability to recall just what transpired gnawed at her with a certain sinking feeling in heart. From the day she had gotten back to the academy, she also noted a certain unease plastered upon her friend's faces as well, including the ever so studious Maka Albarn who buried herself in her books more often than before. Aside from Suzaku, Soul had too suffered some battle damage, but the more she watched the weapon meister pair, the less she noticed them interacting with each other, unlike before. Nor would either speak of the incident.
"Something wrong, Nunnally?" Suzaku titled his head, sounding concerned. She snapped out her musings, giving him a reassuring nod. The lecture had resumed, but she had yet to resume taking notes like she usually did. Her notebook page, a blank.
"Oh, I'm fine. Just a bit tired from staying up a bit late. I'm just glad you're back, Suzaku." Lying was not an ability she was well practiced with, yet her statement held some truth in the matter. During the past week, her sleep schedule was not the best, and Stein had noted a drop in her academic performance. The school had offered her and Maka the chance to take off a few days to recover mentally, but neither decided to use the opportunity.
"I'm sorry, I worried you, and everyone else." The brunette apologized, a sincere sadness in his green eyes. What he did at the time impacted not only his partner but everyone else around him.
"It's alright. I knew what you were going for and…plenty of innocent people would have lost their lives if we didn't stop that…other meister." While memories were vague, she did recall to the point where the two witnessed the pink haired boy swallow up hundreds of innocent souls and Suzaku throwing himself at the black sword wielder. Spending several days laying on a hospital bed gave the brunette plenty of time to rethink his actions. Assessing the damage that was done to his body, he was sure whatever happened during that fight was enough to put the lives of both him and Nunnally in danger, so it made him rethink his actions quite substantially.
"Inretrospect, I should have listened to that voice and phoned the academy."
"Then there could be no telling if we could have confined that meister to the church itself." Nunnally grasped the boy's hand, a shone of determination brimming in her lilac orbs. Unwilling to let misfortune befall another victim, her sense of justice was born of a guilt that clawed deep at her soul. "I'd rather not have someone like that take the life of another away again." Shaking her head, she recalled back to a time long past, of when her older brother had disappeared, replaced by a pool of crimson that spilled out onto the street.
"I lost family to the kishin eggs back home too." Suzaku began, recalling back to attending the funeral of an aunt that always remained at his side when he was raised in the Kururugi residence. Japan was not unknown to kishin egg attacks and this stirred a certain urge in the boy to throw himself at these beasts. Not that he always had this inborn urge to protect others, something he never could figure out why it was there in the first place. It was both a blessing and a curse, like his soul and body were at odds with each other.
Grasping Suzaku's hand, Nunnally smiled gingerly, "You have people you want to protect too, right? I'm sure the choices we made weren't a mistake. Everyone made it out in the end with the academy already investigating the incident." Optimism filled her words, even in times of despair, she was able to encourage her friend, who accepted her.
"Yea, but let's be careful next time,"
Choosing not to dive deeper into the matter, both weapon and meister accepted their decisions without confronting the other on what really happened. Or rather, chose not to for the sake of keeping peace as Nunnally could feel Suzaku's pulse fluctuate during their exchange as she hid away her own discomforts. So many unanswered questions lingered in the air, from the two's unexpected memory loss, to the sudden arrival of the DWMA when the students were at their breaking points. Returning their attention back to lecture, there was a palpable tension in the air. Both from the feelings of the students in class, but also pairs of watchful eyes that landed themselves on the pair sitting together. Suzaku could feel the unsettling glare from his professor and a certain gun meister in the class.
"This pizza stinks, who puts pineapple on good food anyways?" BlackStar tossed his slice into a nearby trash can, earning numerous irate glances his way at the waste of good food.
"BlackStar, try not to waste anything, ok? It's not very nice to the chiefs who work hard to prepare this for us." Tsubaki scolded lightly, sitting down next to the blue haired assassin in the academy's library. Sneaking food into the room was already forbidden but the meister hardly listened to anyone but himself.
"Hey watch it, you'll get stuff on my books. You're lucky no librarian's around to find kick us out yet." Maka shifted her textbooks away from a pile of snacks the boys had brought, hiding them under the table with a tarp to cover up their contraband.
"Relax, Maka. No one ever comes to this corner of the library anyways. It's full of old crummy nerd material." Seated among a jungle of ancient text, it was an area rarely visited by any if not abandoned by the students at the DWMA. Consisting of outdated texts with huge leather bound volumes along hundreds of dusty shelves, the group is in one of the deepest parts of the one star floors. A maze that was borderline impossible to navigate through, but also served as a good secret meeting spot for the friend group. Being home to the group's multiple group study sessions, it served as a private rendezvous spot for when school was in session and students not being allowed to leave campus until dismissal.
"Fine…but keep them away from my books." The scythe meister silenced after her partner spoke up, filling the atmosphere with an awkward silence. Neither having the ability to speak up with the former refusing to keep eye contact.
"Ummm, are you both doing ok?" Liz shifted her gaze between Maka and Soul. Ever since the incident.
"Yea, we're fine."
"She's just being stubborn."
"Ugh"
"Maybe we should give them some time to cool down," Tsubaki suggested, reviewing her notes from the previous class. Half the group munched away at snacks while the other half flipped their textbooks.
"Isn't the super written exam coming up? It's not too late to catch up on some studying now." Nunnally looked to the boys who exchanged confused glances, none were too eager to hit the books. Soul avoided answering, stuffing his mouth while Blackstar mouthed off on how he would ace the test without much input. Meanwhile both Kid and Suzaku held material that had nothing to do with their current subject matter. Then the mood of the room shifted with Kid thumping the pile of papers in his hand.
"As much as I'd like to shift my attention towards the upcoming exam, I'd like to share some information before father officially announces it to the school at large."
"Huh? What's this about all of a sudden?" Liz inquired, never seeing her meister act this serious before.
"Oh! Is it about where you disappeared that one time?" Patty blurted out, which caught everyone's attention.
"I was merely keeping my promise to inform my father about that mysterious caller." Kid rebutted, clearing his throat.
"You were gone for the entire day after that. Did he tell you something crazy?" The older of the Thompson twins raised an eyebrow. Yet, Kid's words remained vague.
"No. He too had no clue as to who this caller was. But I was merely caught up in the arrangement of the new supplies that were to the school afterwards." Believe it or not, the reaper was no stranger to being caught with similar situations in the past.
As Kid spoke, Suzaku couldn't help once again feel golden eyes pry at him from the corner of his peripheral vision.
"I've heard rumors, is it true they're releasing a new, two meister rule for everything?" The brunette asked, not being put off by the pressure emitting from the reaper.
"Precisely. While it has been a general rule for kishin egg hunts that are larger in number or greater in power to have multiple meisters, now all missions regardless of difficulty will have another partner at minimum to help out."
"We've been partnering with everybody already, what difference does this make?" Soul pointed out the obvious. For the past few hunts, the friend group had been pitching in to support each other on requests that were far more dangerous than a single meister could handle.
"As you all may know, the DWMA arranges our hunts by skill level, the more risk assessed, the higher chance of a second team being dispatched. However, what happened during the incident with team Maka and Suzaku, a request that should have been a level two in risk was suddenly bumped up to a five with little notice. The additional appearance of a witch and an unknown meister being a wildcard gave even a three star meister like professor Stein trouble exercising. Teams will not only be there to complete requests but also watch each other's backs, in case one team is down, the other can call for backup. This means even level one hunt requests helmed by experienced meisters will need additional partner approvals."
"Meh, that's cheap. Now we gotta find someone to partner up with?" BlackStar cut in, unable to read the room. Speaking as a one star meister, they were only allowed to take missions that stretched up to level two with two stars and above handling anything higher. It wasn't rare for one to go it alone, even for weaker witch hunts, although anything level two required two meisters as a rule set in place a decade ago due to the frequent deaths of inexperienced one stars.
"So they mainly added this new rule to let people have time to call for help?" Maka said dejected, her face sunken.
"Personally, I don't see this as a bad thing. It'll reduce the chances of anyone ever getting hurt." Tsubaki comforted the other girl, noting how her mood shifted at the mention of the incident.
"I agree, the more hands to help out the better." Nunnally chimed, in optimistic outlook being quite infectious.
"Speaking of which, how are you feeling, Suzaku?" Kid shifted the topic, finally moving to the big elephant in the room. I hope your recovery has been smooth"
"It's been a journey, but I'm feeling much better than before after being discharged." The brunette said sheepishly. Deflecting any attempts to pry for information.
"The official reports from the school did paint a rather stark picture. I'm glad you and everyone else have settled down. My father has informed me that they will be looking into the situation, so if you have any future concerns, you can express them to either me or the deathroom itself." Dropping hints, it was only obvious to a few that this conversation was a straight up interrogation request from the reaper. By using the authority of Lord Death and inserting himself as a point of advisory, Kid essentially acted as an official of the school. It became clear that he was speaking as the heir to Death's throne, more than he was as a friend. A duty that he was beginning to accept oh so slowly.
"I understand. Thanks for the suggestion Kid. You appear more like Lord Death every day." Suzaku teased, or maybe that was a counter attack on his part.
"Thank you. He has growing confidence in me to handle more acadmacy matters as of late. We are becoming more busy with the recent shakeups." Kid cited the new rule and possible witch causing trouble. The fact that the official reports had to scrub most of the events clean was already telling. All the student body was given word wise, were that two meisters had unfortunate accidents at the sudden appearance of a witch and her unknown follower. No word on the kishin blade, nor Suzaku's battle battle results. The aftermath was made worse when neither meister or weapon claimed to recall the final moments of the match from memory loss.
"Hey, patty." Liz sat on the side of her bed, a pensive expression on her face. After the school day finished, the two had returned to Death manor, which served as their current residence.
"Yea, sis?" her younger sister scrambled away with a batch of colorful crayons on a nearby desk.
"Don't you think there's something up with Kid lately?" The older of the Thompson twins crossed her arms, "Ever since he went to the Death room that time, he's been…off." Once again bringing up the subject, she noted how the reaper was out late at night once again. He had been spending less time in the manor with them than previous. Before, he would be busy arranging the contents of his room, obsessed with making them symmetrical. Now, he is rarely home.
"Who knows? Maybe Lord Death told him a biggg secret that he isn't letting on." Patty said innocently, unknowingly hitting the bullseye of Liz's worries. Kid had disappeared after his meeting with his father for a time, and came back home the day after, shutting himself in his room. At first the sisters assumed it was a family matter between the two reapers, but the more talks of academy business by their meister made them assume otherwise.
"Huh? You think so?"
"Nah! Just a guess, tee hee!"
Nunnally pouted, her rosy cheeks puffing up at losing another round at the claw machine. Her target stuffed animal dropping back down into the big pit of despair where no hand would lay claim. A mound of bunny plushies tempted her from the other side of the glass as she lost yet another round to this money eating machine.
"Awww, not another one."
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get it eventually," Tsubaki handed her an ice cream cone from one of the many restaurants in the Death city arcade. "How about we chill out for a bit, BlackStar's been drawing a crowd competing with the regulars again." The raven haired girl invited her friend to watch the oncoming carnage that was going to unfold.
"We're going to make sure he doesn't get into another brawl again," Nunnally was used to going out with her friends to know what was going to happen. She and Tsubaki had to work extra hard to keep their hot blooded friend out of trouble. This earned a light chuckle from the older girl.
"Yea, too bad we can't have Suzaku here to help us out. He's pretty much one of the only few people who can keep up with him." Noting how crazily alethic the two were compared to the rest of the one star class, it was outrageous how they both scored in the top percent when it came to both reaction time and physical fitness. "Speaking of which, I was surprised he decided to back out of tonight's game night."
"He said he was going to make some calls to his family back home. I'm sure his father must have been really worried about what happened." Nunnally's eyes softened.
"I can see why. And you guys just insisted on going with us for the next kishin egg hunt too. I hope his family won't be too harsh on him." After class, the pair had picked plaque from the usual blackboard, being a level two mission, which required the presence of another meister and weapon pairing present.
"After we came back, I heard my parents personally wrote letters to the academy to excuse me from the EAT course. But I'm glad I was able to stay after I spoke to Lord Death on the matter." Nunnally had been the only child after her family's loss, so of course her parents back in London were quite overprotective of her. It was only through recommendation of Death himself that she was able to apply for the EAT course.
"Is it because of what happened to your brother…?" Tsubaki knew that was a touchy subject, yet it was one both girls bonded over. The loss of an older brother. Nunnally nodded.
"You know Tsubaki?" She could see her own hollow reflection from the glass of the machine, "Sometimes I feel like what happened back then wasn't just the end of the story. Sometimes I feel like…like there was more to the whole thing." Visions of that day flashed in her lilac eyes, once again being reminded of her discovering the crime scene with the presence of a single kishin egg floating ghostly above a pool of blood and her brother's belongings that fateful night. Normally, a meister would let their weapon consume the kishin, but instead, it was left to remain unclaimed. More importantly, from the police reports, no sign of another human soul was found nor were any bodies discovered. The more she recalled back to the crime scene, the less she was able to believe what the police declared to be a cut and dry murder case and more was under the surface. Perhaps, just perhaps, he was alive.
"I get you. You think he might be wondering about the world out there, am I right?" Tsubaki caught onto her friend's train of thought. A tinge of pain in her words.
"Uh huh. I joined the acadmacy to find him. If I become a deathscythe, then maybe I can have the authority to uncover the files from the school's database to really know what happened." All kishin egg reports around the world are recorded at the school, with local law enforcement often working with Death City to document these files. Due to the supernatural nature of the kishin eggs, governments in different countries are unable to fully take on the task of enforcing the law without the grim reaper's authority. All trained meisters entering and graduating from the DWMA are sworn to Death's oath and assume him as the highest authority in command, even overriding those of their own countries.
"Meanwhile, I just want to find mine and well…" Tsubaki paused, a sad smile made its way to her face. "Confront him" She picked her words delicately.
"And we'll do it together." Nunnally, clasped the hand of her friend, catching her off guard, "Me, Suzaku, and BlackStar. We'll go confront him together."
"But he'll…this is my-"
"Then we'll cheer you on when we get there. No big brother is going to make his little sister sad on my watch!" the bubbly girl pouted, punching the air, causing her friend to let out a slight chuckle. "If he acts out, then we'll all beat him up together!'
Sneezing into an empty classroom, Lelouch could feel a chill down his spine. His hand clasped onto a small note from earlier in the day. Settling back down onto an empty desk, he read the words scribbled on the paper.
'Lelouch Vi Britannia. Meet me at midnight in classroom Crescent Moon.'
Words so simple, yet made him dread its implications. It was like his past had come back at full force to haunt him. He couldn't remember when he had first arrived in this world, and when he saw him last, he was just but a normal student attending the academy. It was much better that way, the way that both him and his sister lived in bliss. They were finally free from that world, but fate had yet again intervened. A sense of guilt bubbled up from his stomach, having been the one to set his best friend yet again on another collision course with disaster.
"Lelouch." Lifting his head up, he snapped to attention at Suzaku's voice. Venom oozed from the brunette's single utterance of his name, causing a bitter chuckle from the former.
"I'm relieved it's you" Lelouch threw back in sarcasm. There was a palpable tension in the air. A moment of silence filled the empty space between the two, with the dim lights of the classroom creating a shadowy atmosphere. The sound of the ticking clock faded, the low hum of the fluorescent lights dulled and time came to a stop.
A swift punch echoed throughout the empty lecture hall.
"You better explain to me what the hell is going on, Lelouch!"
Then another resounded through the air.
"Why are we here?! Why are you here?!" Madness swirled in the knight's eyes, his growls growing increasingly out of control as he picked up his former friend by the collar. "You know what transpired in the world of C, don't you?"
Hacking out drops of crimson, Lelouch slammed against the lecture podium, pain coursing throughout his entire body. Planks of wood broke off from the structure. "I know this sounds insane, but I had nothing to do with any of this! Nor do I have memories of what happened after speaking to the collective!"
Suzaku raised his fist, his eyes hollow, "You really expect to believe that? After everything you've done?"
"Does it look like I have the power to control an entire collective?! Even if I did, what makes you think I'd pick a world like this? A place where you and Nunnally have to risk your lives to serve some god?!" Clenching his teeth, Lelouch swung at his worst enemy, landing a solid blow that knocked Suzaku back.
"Hmp! Then why don't you come out of your little safety bubble on campus and come help us out? I'm sure Nunnally will be glad to know her brother's been hiding away this entire time." Cracking his knuckles, a calm rage boiled over in Suzaku's eyes, enough to make Lelouch flinch.
"I have my circumstances, Suzaku…I-"
"That's not what I wanted to hear, Lelouch. You always have excuses for everything. How about you be honest with me for once…" Emerald fire burned, as the knight went for another swing.
"That's enough!"
He felt someone catch his fist, causing him to reel back. Death the Kid stood between the two broken souls.
"Kid? Were you-!"
"Yes, I was observing the two of you from afar. And as Lelouch claimed, he does have valid reasons for not revealing his presence to you."
"You didn't say I couldn't have company around, did you?" Lelouch whipped from the blood from his face, rising from the rubble.
"LELOUCH!"
Authors Notes:
Soul Eater may have started at the beginning but the Code Geass cast actually come from a world right before the Zero requiem plan happened with Lelouch claiming that he does not remember anything after the Sword of Ragnorak was activated in C's world. Make that what you will. Anyways, Suzaku meeting him after losing his memory and then being reincarnated into the world of Soul Eater, then getting them back was rough. Keep in mind, this Nunnally's still looking for her brother and this sent him even more off the rails when he realizes Lelouch has been hiding away from his sister the entire time. Plus, he also suspects Lelouch was partly the reason he lost his memories somehow so he falsely assumed everything was again the guy's fault. Even now he still has a healthy grudge against him, with the talk of "fixing the world" which led to the Zero Requiem in the Code Geass canon never happening here. And then, there's Lelouch breaching their private talk by inviting Death the Kid along.
As for how Suzaku got his memories back? It'll be explained later but its everything to do with the Geass command to live and that lethal wound Crona gave give him during chapter 3.
