General O'Neill was surprised when the Stargate flared open a second time and in less then an hour and Teal'C, who'd just recently reported the success of the battle, requested permission for himself and Corda to come through.
"Granted." He said, after receiving Teal'c's confirmation code.
"Is everything alright?" He asked as soon as they stepped though. Corda unhooked the shield emitter from her belt and handed it to Teal'C. "Thank you." She said.
"It was my honor. O'Neill, I will need to return to Dakara now that I have accomplished the task entrusted to me."
"What task?"
"I need to speak privately with you, Jack." Corda said.
"Alright. Teal'C, Carter's going back with you to have a looksee at whatever you've discovered. Jacob just arrived with an announcement that Anubis has already heard and is on his way to Dakara. The sooner you can get that weapon working, the better."
"Indeed."
Jack motioned Corda to follow him, while yelling up to Walter to dial Dakara. Once they were in his office he motioned her into a seat.
"Okay, so what's going on?"
"Alexander was running a scan and he discovered something. In me."
"Are you sick?"
"I imagine I will occasionally be in the coming months. I understand it's normal for someone in my condition."
"What condition?" Jack asked, warily.
"According to the scanner, I'm two days pregnant. We had a date night two days ago."
"Oh. Congratulations."
"Jack, we've been married for nearly 460 years. This is the first time we've been pregnant."
"Oooh. I never thought to ask if you two had any kids."
"It's one of the reasons the Wraith were able to overtake us numerically. The longer our lifespan became, the more our ability to reproduce dropped. A couple would be lucky if they could have two children in their lifetime. Both of us were only children."
"Really big deal. Don't worry, we'll help look out for you. So what can we expect from a baby Alteran?"
"Well, the baby will inherit the healing ability. It may also have some psychic ability, but how much, I don't know. Physically, we're the descendants of Alterans, like you are. The combination of two descendants having a child would increase the chances of such abilities manifesting. Beyond that, a hopefully normal pregnancy. We carry just as long as Earth humans do. That never changed."
"I'm happy for you."
"And I'm sad for you. How old would your son be?"
"He was eight when he died and that was eight years ago, so sixteen." Corda laid her hand over his and squeezed it sympathetically.
Throwing off the gloomy mood, Jack stood up. "Alright, let's have the doc have a looksee of her own, shall we?"
Corda nodded and followed him to the infirmary. Jack was surprised to find Jacob there.
"Everything okay, Dad?" He asked
"No, Selmak's sick. Neither of us are sure she's going to make it. She's one of the oldest Tok'ra's and it looks like I'm going to be her last host. I don't know how to tell Sam."
"Tell her what? I thought the Tok'ra could prevent the host from dying with them." Jack said.
"Selmak's too weak. She's beyond the point where she could let me go."
"Maybe I can do something." Corda suggested.
"What could you do, Miss?" Jacob asked.
"Dad, allow me to introduce Commander Corda, first officer of the Altimah. She's an Alteran."
"And what's an Alteran?"
"The people Daniel named the Ancients."
"You're a living Ancient?!"
"We don't like that term. It's pretentious. And yes, I am. And no, I will not explain the circumstances of why and how I'm here, it's personal. But I can help you."
"How?"
"Alterans have the ability to heal. If your symbiotes condition is beyond my healing ability, then we have technology that can help. Will you let me help you?"
Jacob looked like he was thinking for a moment and then he said. "Selmak agrees, you can try."
Corda raised her hand and let the healing energy flow to her hand, then she placed her hand over the back of Jacob's neck. After a moment, she stopped. "I've done what I can. She really is far gone. I bought you time. When my husband returns we can use the healing stasis pod on our ship and heal you completely."
"Return from where?"
"From helping to protect Dakara. He flew our ship into battle against Baal's forces. He is Captain Alexander of the Altimah. My commanding officer, as well as my husband."
"Which brings us to why we're here in the infirmary. Doc! Corda needs you to do a looksee!"
"You don't need to yell. I can hear just fine." Dr. Frazer yelled back. (Yes, she's alive, go with it). ;). And took Corda away to an exam room. Once they finished, Corda returned with Jack to his office to wait for word on what was happening with their loved ones on Dakara. Neither of them liked being on the sidelines and Jack's shortlived attempt to distract them both with a visit to the infirmary had only delayed the inevitable wait.
