Chapter 5: No Exit Part 1
It was night time.
I tossed and turned in my cot.
Lights of an upper window flickered inside an apartment complex building.
A young blonde woman was talking on the phone, pacing. "I checked the fuses. They're fine. It's the wiring. Look, you promised the place would be ready when I moved in. No. You come up now! Please. Thank you."
I tossed again and kicked my covers off of my legs in a tangled mess.
The woman hung up, and glanced at the table in the living room. She put her finger on it. Goo. Black thick goo.
"Gross." She said.
More drips on her shoulder. She looked up. Fear in her eyes. She walked over to the switch light and saw more oozing out like a waterfall of chocolate.
"What the hell?" she looked deeper into the light switch and saw bloodshot eyes. She screamed.
I screamed, waking up, jolting out of bed in terror. Jo came in running at my side. She knelt down beside me. "Kaylee. Kay. It's okay just look at me," she tried to console me as I shook with fear.
"I felt her pain," I whispered. "Her pain…her fear…."
"What? What is it?"
"It's a case," I said to her.
Jo's eyes lit up with wonder. I nodded. It was a case alright. The kind of case the Winchester's would take.
"A girl got killed by some vengeful spirit in the walls," I said.
"Do you know where?" Jo asked.
I nodded. "Philadelphia."
"Well, looks like we've got work to do," she said with a small smile on her face.
"I'm not going to like this am I?" I asked, giving her a look. She grinned at me like the devil on horns. Great.

Three weeks later and after a ton of research, Jo had an entire folder mapped out for us. All we had to do was talk to Ellen. That was the hard part and that's where I landed three coke's later and a headache this morning while the girls had gotten into a screaming match, while trying to open up the place.
I was begging for any kind of disruption at this point. That's when Sam and Dean entered the room. Oh thank god.
"I am your mother. I don't have to be reasonable!" Ellen shouted. I clung my coke of ice to my head, trying to get rid of my headache and set it down on the table. I smiled warmly at the boys. I walked over and hugged them both.
"It's good to see you," I said.
"You too. What's going on?" Dean asked after I pulled away from our hug.
"Oh just another day of paradise at the Roadhouse," I said gloomily. "I had another premonition."
"Demon related?" Sam hoped.
I shook my head. "No. Scary-ass violent spirit."
"You can't keep me here!" Jo yelled right back over us talking.
"Oh don't you bet on that, sweetie." Ellen scowled.
"What are you going to do, chain me up in the basement?"
"You know what, you've had worse ideas than that recentl.y Hey, you don't wanna stay, don't stay. Go back to school," Ellen said.
"I didn't belong there! I was a freak with a knife collection."
"Yeah and getting yourself killed on some dusty back road, that's where you belong?" Ellen asked almost teary-eyed.
"Guys, bad time."
"Yes, ma'am," Sam said politely with a nod of his head.
"Yeah, we rarely drink before ten anyway." Dean said, ready to leave.
"Wait. I wanna know what they think about this," Jo said, walking downstairs to hand the file over to Dean. She stood next to me.
Just then a mom, a dad, and two kids were wearing bright yellow shirts that read Nebraska Lovers walked inside.
"I don't care what they think!" Ellen cried.
"Are you guys open?"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"We'll just check out the Arby's down the road."
They left and the phone rang. Jo glared at the phone then Ellen walked over to it and answered. "Harvelle's. Yeah, preacher."
"Three weeks ago a young girl disappears from a Philadelphia apartment. Take it, it won't bite."
"No. But your mom might."
She pinched her lips and watched him until he took it reluctantly in his hands. He started to open it and look through it.
"And this girl wasn't the first. Over the past eighty years six women have vanished. All from the same building, all young blondes. Only happens every decade or two so cops never eyeball the pattern. So we're either dealing with one very old serial killer, or —"
"Who put this together? Ash?"
"I did it myself," she said. I bumped into her. "With the help of Kaylee. She had the premonition."
Sam arched an eyebrow at that.
"Hmm."
"I gotta admit. We hit the road for a lot less," Sam said.
"Good. You like the cases so much, you take it," Ellen said after she slammed the phone down on the wall.
"Mom!" Jo cried.
"Joanna Beth, this family has lost enough. And I won't lose you too. I just won't. "

Another young blonde woman walked into her apartment, carrying her mail that read Teresa Ellis on top. She dropped her bag on the counter and opened up a letter. The lights flickered above her.
I tossed in my sheets that night the boys swung by us again.
She looked up, terrified as she saw a crack in the ceiling.
"This building I swear to God…" she said. A loud scraping sound pulled her eyes back up and the crack moved across the ceiling. Panic flooded through her. She picked up the phone but it was static.
"Screw it. I'm out of here….."
She went to the door to open it, but can't. A slimy hand reached out and grabbed her legs. She screamed as they pulled her through the floor.
I woke up screaming too. Jo ran into my room.
"Calm down. Calm down. Kaylee. It's just me, Jo," she said, rushing to sit next to me. "Do you know who it was this time?"
I nodded. "Yes. And it was dated 24 hours later thanks to her mail. Jo. We have to stop this. I have to get to Teresa Ellis before it does."
Jo nodded. "I got a plan."

Philadelphia
I'd never been to it, but here I was in Philly. I hoped we got to Teresa in time so I can get in place of her. No one should have to go through the fear that Teresa went through. Jo and I had a plan to tell Ellen we were going to Vegas for a while to clear our heads. Ash got the paper trail to work all the way to it. It seemed like this spirit had a type. Blondes, so I decided to dye my hair blonde for the occasion. I was going to save this girl if it was the last thing I did. Jo and I split up to get our respected apartments.
I knocked on Teresa's door.
"Hello?" she answered.
Thank God.
"Um hi. I'm the…landlord's assistant and we're having some gas leak problems in the building I was wondering if you could leave for a couple of days?"
"Um…wow really?" she asked. "I just moved in with my boyfriend."
"Yeah, I'm so sorry about that. It's imperative that you move out for a couple of days if that's at all possible."
"I mean yeah I guess I can stay with a friend for a while."
"Great!" I beamed and watched her pack a bag with her boyfriend. "It'll just be a couple of days. Thank you so much."
"No problem. At least they're taking care of things before it gets worse right?" the boyfriend asked.
"Right, I guess so. Looked brand new to me."
"Oh don't you worry. It'll be as good as new."
"Okay."
"Bye now!"
They walked out of the room and I closed the door. Someone knocked on the door and I walked over to open it. It was Sam. He didn't seem too happy to see me.
"Hi, Sam."
"Hi. What the hell are you doing here?" he asked.
"Take it you found Jo. I'm working a case. You?"
"Working the case. You know jack squat about hunting."
"So. Jo does. She and I can handle this. I had to rescue Teresa, Sam. I wasn't going to let her deal with the psychological trauma it comes with!"
"And since when do you think that it was okay to just drop everything and not tell me what was going on with your premonitions? They seem more to me than just regular of the mill premonitions," Sam said.
"I'm not a psychic kid, Sam. I'm just a psychic. And I can do whatever I want! Jo and I were going to come here no matter what. We're saving these girls that get kidnapped or worse. By the way, since when did you give a damn if I hunted with you or not. I thought you were okay with it."
"Some things have come up," Sam said.
"Like what things?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"Nothing. I just…I don't want you to get hurt," he said. "The demon out there is at large, and I just…"
"Worry?" I asked, supplying it for him. He nodded. "Well untwist your boxers and deal with it because I'm here. I'm here to help. I think I just saved Teresa's life."
"Yeah, and what about your life?" Sam asked.
"I don't care about my life," I said.
"I care," Sam said.
I swallowed hard. "What?"
"I care about your life. Even if it's just one person…that should be enough shouldn't it?" Sam asked.
"Don't you think I don't care about you too? I care every time you and Dean go hunting," I said.
"Well it looks like we're at an impasse then."
Suddenly his phone rang. He picked it up. "No. Nothing here. I'll come to you."
He hung up.
"Searching for the monster?" I asked.
"Yes. Want to come along?" Sam asked.
"No. I'm staying here. It's where Teresa was kidnapped," I said.
Sam shook his head. "It's a stupid move."
"Maybe," I said. "But she's alive because of me."
Sam sighed. "Well, then, I'm staying too."
I laughed a bit. "You can't stay. You'll just be a hindrance. Look, I'll be fine. Just go be with Dean and Jo."
"What about you?"
"I'll be fine. I can handle it. I was born for this. I don't know why, but I just feel like it was meant to be."
Sam nodded and reluctantly walked out of the room.
"Hey if we survive this, wanna buy me dinner?" I asked.
Sam arched an eyebrow.
"Yeah, never mind," I said, my cheeks turning bright pink. He left the room and I sighed, glancing around me. Now it was time to be bait.

Night time came. I was pacing the room back and forth until suddenly black goo fell upon my shoulder. I looked up at the cracked ceiling and saw beady eyes staring down at me before I suddenly felt hands grip my shoulder's tight. I yelled out loud as it grabbed me and slung me through the walls. I was out cold.
