Chapter 7: Born Under A Bad Sign

Jo's Bar

I was downstairs in the back rearranging some beer bottles on the rack when I heard a cry from upstairs that sounded like Jo's. With the case of beer in my arms, I ran up the stairs as fast as I could and stopped, horrified to see Sam had Jo knocked out cold in his arms. He was tying her up against the pole. The beer bottles dropped from my hands, as I was horrified at what he'd done to her. My knees almost buckled at the sight.

"Was wondering when you'd join the party," Sam said to me. I swallowed hard and stepped forward slightly.

"Sam, what are you doing?" I asked, as he finished tying her up. Chills ran down my spine. Something was wrong.

"Oh nothing. Just stopped by for a little visit," he said, giving me the devilish grin I'd ever seen on his face and it rubbed me the wrong way.

"Oh really? You call this a little visit? More like assault to me," I said, and then I gripped my knife out of my back pocket and ran at him with it. But he ducked too fast and twirled around, gripping my arm and twisted it behind me. He leaned me against the bar, hurting my wrist as he tried to take my knife away from me. He ran his hand down my shoulders and arms until it fell out of my hands, as I couldn't take his strong grip on me much longer. I cried out in agony as pain shot up my arm. I shook underneath him.

"Sam no! Please no, don't do this!" I cried tearfully.

"Shut up," Sam hissed in my ear, sending shivers down my spine. He finally knocked my head against the counter and I slipped out cold.

A few moments later, I woke up to talking. Sam and Jo were in the middle of a conversation about her father and John Winchester. The jukebox was on playing the Doors' song Crystal Ship.

"Like daddy, like daughter, you're bait. Open up," Sam wrapped a gag around her mouth. I rolled my eyes.

"Oh give it up," I sighed.

"Nah, I don't think so. I do however probably think I should have just killed you. You're nothing but a pain in my ass. However, it'd be good to know that a little birdie told me down the street, your parents died today," Sam said.

I swallowed hard. "What?"

"Oh yeah. They died in their bed bloody," Sam said and walked over to me, placing a gag over me. "So, sorry…but it is part of a plan bigger than you little insect. Your little premonitions and desperate attempt to save innocent lives is pathetic, but are not without warrant. Open up, and stay quiet," he ordered, placing the gag over my head.

I tried to untwist my wrists from the pole I was tied against but it was no use.

The door burst open revealing Dean. "Sam!"

I looked over to see the hunter inside.

Sam grabbed the knife from the pillar and held it to Jo's head.

"I begged you to stop me, Dean!"

"Put the knife down, damn it!" Dean ordered.

"I told you, I can't fight it! My head feels like it's on fire, all right? Dean, kill me, or I'm going to kill them!"

"No, Sammy, come on," Dean shook his head.

"Shoot me!"

"What the hell's wrong with you, Dean? Are you that scared of being alone that you'd rather let Jo and Kaylee die?"

Dean turned a bit, and then swung water from a flask at him. The water sizzled against Sam's skin, burning him with smoke coming off of him. Sam cried out in pain.

"That's holy water, you demonic son of a bitch!"

He flung more holy water at him and Sam ran away. Dean then came over to us and cut our ties loose. We took off our gags.

"He was possessed?" Jo asked.

Dean turned to look at Jo for a minute before he ran out. "Dean!" Jo cried.

I grabbed the knife from the ground and pocketed it behind me in my jeans. So Sam was possessed by a demon. A demon that told me my parents had died today. I wasn't sure if it was true or not. This was my first demon encounter. And it wasn't a very good one.

"Jo…" I said to her.

She grabbed her jacket and threw me mine. "Come on," Jo said. "We're looking for them."

I nodded and strung my jacket over me. We ran outside and walked through the docks. She was trying to call Dean's cell phone to see if we could find him. It was going to be pointless to try and talk to Sam with a demon inside of him. I held the flashlight in front of us until we finally found Dean lying over on his stomach.

He'd been shot.

"Dean! Dean! Take it easy," Jo said.

"Where's Sam?" Dean asked.

"I don't know. I've been looking for you. Come on, get up."

Jo and I helped him get up and we went back to Jo's bar. It was a place that I'd called home for the last few months. Ellen didn't want us hunting and saving the lives of people that were in my head every night and wouldn't let me sleep until they were saved. So Jo and I moved out here to start our hunting life together.

And now hearing that my folks were dead…I ran a hand over my wrists, still reeling from Sam's assault on me.

Dean was groaning when she pulled out the bullet.

"Don't be a baby! " Jo chided.

"God!"

I grabbed my cell and walked over by the jukebox, attempting to call my parents.

"Almost. Alright, got it," she pulled it out and put it in a little bowl. Dean swallowed liquor to ease the pain.

"God, you're a butcher," Dean muttered.

"You're welcome," Jo said pointedly.

"All right, are we done?" Dean asked.

"Would you give me two minutes to patch you up? You can't help Sam if you're bleeding to death. So how did you know?" Jo asked.

"Uh, ah, I didn't. I just knew that it couldn't have been him." Dean replied.

I hung up, trying not to cry. There was no answer.

"Hey Dean," Jo asked.

"Yeah?"

"I know demons lie, but do they ever tell the truth too?" Jo asked.

"Uh, um, yeah, sometimes. I guess. Especially if they know it'll mess with your head," he took a drink of his beer. "Why do you ask?"

"Nothing. Doesn't matter. So do you have any idea where he's headed to next?"

"Well, he's been going after the nearest hunter, so, closest one I know lives in South Dakota."

"Okay, good. I'm done. Let's go."

"Yeah, you're not coming."

"The hell I'm not. We're apart of this now," Jo pointed to me. I swallowed at her. Sure we were but I wanted to see if my parents were okay.

"I can't say it more plain than this. You try to follow me and I'll tie you right back to that post and leave," Dean said.

"Wait. Here. Take these. They'll help with the pain," she said, handing him a bottle of pills.

"Thanks. I'll call you later, okay?"

"No, you won't," she said, watching him leave.

I tapped my phone in the palm of my hands. "I'm leaving too."

"What. Why?" she asked.

"I think the demon's right. I think my folks are dead."

"Do you want me to come with you?" Jo asked.

I shook my head. "I'll be fine. I'll call you when I get there."

She nodded and wrapped a hug around me tight. "You come back, okay?"

I nodded against her shoulder, hugging her tight.
