Chapter 8: All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1
I woke up suddenly and found myself on the ground next to…Sam?! What in the hell was he doing here? What in the hell was I doing here? All of a sudden I was at my parent's funeral and then I was here. I woke up and got up off the ground, dusting off my black slacks. I had dressed in black for the occasion of my parent's funeral.
"Sam?" I asked.
He finally woke up and got up himself. I helped him up.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, you?"
I nodded. "Yeah. What the hell is going on? Where are we?"
He looked around. It was an abandoned ghost town. "I have no idea. But I'm glad your okay. You've been gone for months."
"What?" I asked with pure disbelief. "No. A minute a go I was at my parent's funeral."
"Yeah. Three months gone. Jo put out a missing call for you," Sam said. "Thank God. We've been looking everywhere for you." He hugged me and I hugged him back.
"So, think this is demon related?" I asked, pulling apart.
"I don't know yet," Sam said. "Bear with me. I told you your premonitions had to be more than."
I nodded. We started to look around the town for any sign of life, other than us. "So, I guess you were right about me after all. They were demon related."
"Looks that way, yes," Sam said.
"I remember the smell in my parent's bedroom. Sulfur." I said.
"Comes with the territory," Sam said as we walked through town until we paused slightly at hearing a small noise behind the wall of a building.
"Andy?" Sam asked putting the board down beside him. I slowly emerged from behind him, looking at the new guy.
"Sam! What are you doing here?"
"I don't know."
"What am I doing here?"
He was freaking out, not taking this lightly.
"Where are we?!"
"Andy, look calm down," Sam said.
"I can't calm down! I just woke up in freaking Frontierland!"
"What's the last thing you remember?"
"Honestly? My fourth bong load," he replied. "It was weird. All of a sudden there was this really intense smell like uh…"
"Sulfur?" Sam and I asked at the same time.
"How did you know that?" Andy asked.
"Dean," Sam said suddenly.
"You, your brother is he here?" Andy asked hopefully.
"I don't know where he is. I don't know if he's…"
Suddenly screaming was heard from the distance. We ran to find out what it was. It looked like some sort of outpost.
"Hello?" Sam asked. The woman kept screaming.
"Help me! Help me, please!"
"Okay, I'm here. We're gonna get you out all right? Just hold on a second!"
"Please!"
"All right one second," Sam said, trying to break the lock with a rock.
A woman came out of the outpost.
"Ava?" Sam asked.
"Oh my god, Sam!" She sobbed and gave him a hug.
"So, I guess you guys know each other," Andy said.
I nodded curiously, wondering what that was about.
"Yeah," Sam said. They pulled apart.
"How did you, I mean, how did you…" she trailed off.
"Ava, have you been here this whole time?"
"What whole time? I just woke up in there like, a half an hour ago," she said.
"Well, you've been gone for five months. My brother and I have been looking for you everywhere." Sam said.
"Okay. That's impossible, because I saw you two days ago," she said.
"You didn't. I'm sorry," Sam shook his head.
"But that makes no sense. That's not. Oh my god! My fiancé, Brady! If I've been missing for that long, he must be freaking out," she cried.
"Well…"
"Oh!"
Ava cried realizing what must've happened to him. Then she noticed Andy and me.
"Hey Andy. Also freaking out," he waved a hand at her. I did too.
"Trying to keep it all in," I said, rolling the balls of my feet on the heels of my boots.
"Okay. What's happening?" she asked.
"I, uh, don't really know yet. But I know one thing. I know what the four of us have in common," Sam said. I quirked an eyebrow at him.
"Hello? Is anybody there?" A man asked.
"Maybe more than four," Sam said.
We ran to another part of town.
"Hello? Hey! Hey! You guys all right?" Sam asked.
"I think so," the one in the army uniform said.
"I'm Sam."
"I'm Jake."
"Lily."
"Are there any more of you?" Sam asked.
"Naw," Jake replied.
"How did we even get here?" Lily asked. "A minute a go, I was in San Diego."
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I went to sleep last night in Afghanistan," Jake said.
"Let me take a wild guess, you two are both twenty-three? We all are. And we all have abilities." Sam said.
"What?" Jake asked in disbelief. I too was curious how I was related to this.
"It started a little over a year ago? You found you could do things? Things you didn't know were possible?" Sam asked. They nodded. "I see things before they happen."
"Me too," I offered quietly as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Yeah. Me three," Ava said. We gave each other a look.
"Yeah, and I can put thoughts into people's heads. Like, make them do stuff. But don't worry, it, I don't think it works on you guys. Oh, but get this –- I've been practicing. Training my brain, like meditation. So now, it's not just thoughts I can beam out, but images, too. Like, anything I want. Bam! People, they see it. This one guy I know – total dick, right? I used it on him: gay porn. All hours of the day," he laughed. "It was just like … you should have seen the look on his face."
"Uh….okay." he said.
"So you go Simon Says give me your wallet, and they do? You have visions?" Lily turned towards them. "That's great! I'd kill for something like that."
"Lily, listen, it's okay," Sam began.
Lily cut him off. "No. It's not. I touch people? Their hearts stop. I can barely leave my house. My life's not exactly improved. So, screw you. I just wanna go home."
"And what, we don't?" Jake asked her.
"You know what, don't talk to me like that, not right-"
"Hey guys, please. Look, whether or not we're all here, and so we all have to deal with this."
"Who brought us here?" Andy asked.
"It's less of a who, it's more of a what," Sam said. I cringed.
"What does that mean?" Andy asked.
"It's a…a demon," Sam said.
Lily let out a huff, and Ava raised her eyebrows. I bit my bottom lip, giving Sam a rueful look.
We continued to explain what was going on to them.
"So, we're soldiers in a demon war to bring on the apocalypse?" Jake asked.
"When you put it like that…."
"And we've been picked?" Jake asked.
"Yes," Sam said with a nod.
"Why us?" Jake asked.
"I'm not sure, okay? But look, I just know-"
"Sam, I'm sorry," Ava said. "Psychics and spoon bending is one thing but demons?"
"Look , I know it sounds crazy, but-"
"It doesn't just sound it," Jake said.
"I don't really care what you think, okay? If we're all gathered here together, then that means it's starting and that we gotta-"
"The only thing I gotta do is to stay away from wakjobs okay? I've heard enough. I'm better off on my own. FYI so are you," Jake said.
"Jake, hold on, Jake!"
"Sam…" I said. We looked at each other and ran up to the buildings looking for Jake. We finally found him facing a small demon in front of him. Sam grabbed an iron poker from the fireplace and swung the demon away with it. It curled up in smoke.
"Just so you know?" Sam asked. Jake looked at him, horrified. "That was a demon."

"Now, that thing – I'm not sure, but I think it was an Acheri. A demon that disguises itself as a little girl. That still doesn't tell us where we are. Andy, are you with me or what?"
"Give me a minute. I'm still working through, "Demons are real"." He said. We walked in front of a rusty old bell in the middle of town.
"I've seen that bell before. I think I know where we are now: Cold Oak, South Dakota. A town so haunted, every single resident fled," Sam said.
"Swell. Good to know we're somewhere so historical," Ava said.
"Why in the world would that demon or whatever put us here?" Lily asked.
"I'm wondering the same thing," Sam said.
"You know what? It doesn't matter. Clearly, the only sane thing to do here is get the hell out of Dodge," Lily said ready to go.
"Wait, hold on. Lily, the only way out is through miles of woods."
"Beats hanging out with demons," she said.
"Lily, look, we don't know what's going on yet. I mean, we don't even know how many of them are out there right now."
:Yeah, he's right. We should—" Jake began.
But Lily whirled around on him. " Don't say "we"! I'm not part of "we". I have nothing in common with any of you."
"Okay, look, I know—"
"You don't know anything! I accidentally touched my girlfriend."
"I'm sorry," Sam said.
Lily scoffed.. "Whatever. I feel like I'm in a nightmare, and it just keeps getting worse and worse."
"I've lost people, too. I have a brother out there right now that could be dead, for all I know. We're all in bad shape. But I'm telling you, the best way out of this is to stick together." Sam said.
I thought of my parents and tried not to get sad about loosing them do to the demon. I had definitely smelled sulfur in their bedroom.
"Fine."
Sam nodded and looked at the rest of us. "We're looking for iron, silver, salt –- any kind of weapon."
"Salt is a weapon?"
"It's a brave new world," Sam said.
"Well, hopefully there's food in your world, because I'm frickin' starving."
"Me too," I agreed with a small grin on my face. I liked Andy. Wish I knew him better and Ava seemed lovely. I felt bad about her fiancé.
Andy and I went to go look for some salt. It didn't take us long to find them in the abandoned houses and I was utterly grateful. We grabbed two bags full. "Okay, let's take this to Sam," I said. He nodded and followed me back to the main building.
"Salt!" Andy said with a wide grin on his face.
"That's great you guys! Now we can all…" but Sam stopped realizing that Lily wasn't here. "Lily?"
"Lily?" Ava and I called out to her.
No response.
"Lily?1" Sam yelled again. No response. Then I heard it. The little girls gigging nearby. It sent shivers down my spine. We walked outside and saw the water tower that had Lily dead on it with a nose wrapped around her neck.
"Oh, my God! Okay, that's officially—Sam, she's dead! She's dead! You said we were chosen for a reason. That is not chosen! That's killed! Okay, we have to get out of here."
"Stop."
"Yeah. I second that emotion," Andy said.
"Not sure that's an option," Jake said.
"What?" Ava asked.
"Lily was trying to leave. The demon's not gonna let us get away that easy. We've gotta gear up for the next attack."
"Oh gear up?" Ava asked.
"Yeah."
"Okay, well, I'm not a soldier. I can't do that!"
I agreed. I was no soldier either.
"I can't do this Sam." I said. "You were right. I'm no hunter. No soldier. This isn't me."
"Well, if you wanna stay alive, you're gonna have to. Let's go."
"I'll get her down," Jake offered.
"You know, I was just thinking about how much Dean would help right now. I'd give my arm for a working phone."
"You know, you may not need one. I've never tried it long-distance before, but do you have anything of Dean's on you? Like, something he touched?" Andy asked.
Sam searched his pockets. "Uh…I've got a receipt. Would that work?"
"Yeah. D. Hasselhoff?"
"Yeah, that's Dean's signature. [beat] It's hard to explain." Sam said.
"All right."

I decided to take a small nap.
Big mistake.
"Howdy Kaylee. Was wondering when you were going to come see me on our little journey together," It was the demon. I swallowed hard and shook my head. "What do you want?"
"I want you," he said. He snapped his fingers and the scene from the abandoned building and where Sam rested his hand and arm changed to my nursery.
A demon was above me. I narrowed my eyes at it and saw that he was dripping blood into my mouth. Not just any blood but demon blood into my mouth. I gasped. "No."
The demon next to me chuckled. "Oh yes. Better than mother's milk," he said. "It's like chocolate milk, your favorite."
"Why me?" I asked.
"Because it had to be you. During the months you were away from the world you were hiding away from Ava as she killed most of my children that have come to play. See, I like you Kaylee. I had high hopes you would make it out of here alive and be by Sam's side. This is the America's beauty pagent after all. I'm rooting for you to be Queen of the Underworld."
I felt horrified and sickening. "What? But I thought I was supposed to be saving people."
"Oh please. Don't be so naïve. You have purpose." He said. "At least for now. Try not to get all teary eyed when it happens. And it will."
"What will?"
"You and Sam are meant to be. It's the little things really. Now that you know the truth, you'll be soon enough making tiny little hellspawns after this whole ordeal is over with," he said and chuckled. "Bye now."
I woke up with a start. Sam was awake, watching me. "Are you okay?"
"I think so." I shivered. It was just a dream , right?
"I'll be right back. I'll be with Jake."
"Okay," I said."
"I'm going to get some water from the well," I offered. I took a couple of buckets and walked out from the building where Ava and Andy and I were staying in. Night time had fallen and we were waiting. Waiting sucked. I didn't like to wait. I wasn't even sure what I was doing here. Sam said my promotions linked to the demon. And that me saving lives had been away to get back to here.
I filled up the buckets until I heard noise. I ran back to the building only to find Andy and Ava dead with Jake and Sam in the room.
"What's that? What happened?" I asked.
"Ava killed Andy. She wanted to kill you," Sam said softly. "I couldn't let that happen."
I sighed and frowned at the same time. I was sad for Andy. He seemed like he'd be a sweet guy to hang out with. Now there were three of them. Sam was going to take first watch.
"I think we can make it out of here now." Sam said. I sighed with relief.
"But the Acheri demon…" Jake began.
"No, no, no. Ava was summoning it, controlling it. It shouldn't come back now that she's dead. We gotta go." Sam said anxiously.
"Not "we", Sam. Only one of us is getting out of here. I, I'm sorry." Jake said.
"What?"
"I had a vision. That Yellow-Eyed Demon or whatever it was, he talked to me. He told me how it was."
"No, Jake, listen. You can't listen to him."
"S-Sam, he's not letting us go. Only one. Now, if we don't play along, he'll kill us both. Now, I-I like you, man. I do. But do the math here. What good's it do for both of us to die? Now, I can get out of here. I get close to the demon, I can kill the bastard."
"You come with me, we can kill him together," Sam said. I liked the sound of that.
"How do I know you won't turn on me?"
"I won't."
"I don't know that."
"Okay, look."
Sam placed his knife on the ground. "Just come with us Jake. Don't do this. Don't play into what it wants."
Jake placed his weapon down. "Okay." Sam nodded.
Suddenly Jake punched him with his super strength on the ground. Sam went flying across the ground and landed hard. I went after Jake but he threw me to the ground too. I gasped in pain. Sam and Jake fought until suddenly Jake stabbed Sam in the back. I heard Dean's voice as he yelled No and I whimpered as Jake left Sam and me defenseless.
"SAM!" Dean yelled.
