Disclaimer: I do not own SPN. Just my OC. Writing for fun.

A/n: So a small minor detail about Kaylee has been changed. I changed her age to be more like Sam's in the beginning of my story so it's been some time. I didn't want her to be old like Dean. So anyway to fit with the SPN theme. Anyway, thank you for understanding. Hope you enjoy the update!

Chapter 25: We Need to Talk About Kevin Part 4

I stood by the vending machine, waiting on Dean to get a couple of snacks. We made it to the Palm Motel. Sam was unloading the car and while doing so I saw two young boys in the parking lot pretend shooting at each other.

"Come on, I got you!"

"No way!"

"You're dead!"

"No way, I'm not dead at all."

I ran behind Dean as we chased a vampire in Purgatory. He lost the trail and we stopped, but then we heard something behind us, and we started running again. The vampire stopped running and Dean came up behind him. I stopped in front of him. Dean hit his arm, making the man drop his weapon. I grabbed it, while Dean pushed him against the tree, holding a knife to his throat. The vampire's teeth descended revealing his true nature.

"Take a breath. Calm down. Where's the angel?" Dean demanded.

"You're them. The humans," the vampire regarded us.

"Where's the angel?" Dean asked once more.

"I don't know," the vampire replied.

"Kaylee?" Dean asked. I was the psychic sure. Did I know if this vampire was telling the truth?

"I think even if he did know, he wouldn't tell us," I said.

"Hmm," Dean said and then he plunged the knife into the vampire's arm, pinning him to the tree. "Your turn kiddo."

I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it shut.

"Just like we talked about," Dean said. I swallowed hard and inhaled sharply.

"Are y-you sure?" I asked hesitantly.

Dean rolled his eyes. "Come on. He'd kill us both anyway, you know that."

"Okay, fine," I drew in a deep breath and raised the ax in my hand.

"You don't have the guts, girly," the vampire hissed at me. Oh, that did it. I had the guts. I could do it. So with all my might, I drew the ax down into his neck and as hard as I could dug it in, cutting his head off, letting him bleed out.

"Not bad, not bad, we'll work on your swing though," Dean said to me. I nodded and let out a breath. I thought we were in the all clear until we heard a yell and a second vampire took Dean to the ground.

"Dean!" I cried, throwing him the ax so he could decapitate him. It landed close to Dean. He tried to reach for it while the vampire held him down on the ground. Another vampire came and flung himself at the second vampire and beheaded him. I helped Dean off the ground and got into a fighting stance, ready to fight this vampire that had his teeth descended in front of us.

I walked away and inside the hotel room where there were two beds and one cot that Sam ordered for me. Dean sat on the edge of the bed, while I placed my bag down on my bed and sat down. Sam went into the bathroom for a minute. I looked over at Dean who was rubbing his hands together for some reason. He seemed on edge. I wondered if it was the same with me.

"You guys okay?" Sam asked, walking out of the bathroom. He leaned against the doorframe.

I nodded. I was okay, I think.

"Yeah. Yeah, hey, what do you say we blow this joint, hit the road?" Dean asked. I gawked at him. What? We just got here.

"Now?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, Kevin's not getting any more found."

"The kid survived a year without us. He'll be okay for another twelve hours. Besides, when's the last time you slept?" Sam asked.

"Hmm," Dean hummed.

"Hmm."

"What?" Sam asked.

Dean shook his head. I gave him a warning look as if to say don't start.

"Nothing. Is that, uh, that how you rationalized taking a year off? People will be okay?" Dean asked.

Sam nodded. "People were okay, Dean. You're okay. Kaylee's okay."

"Wow," Dean exclaimed.

"Look, I did what we promised we'd do. I moved on. I lived my life," Sam said.

Dean nodded. "Yeah, no, I'm getting that."

"Look, it wasn't like I was... just oblivious. I mean, I read the paper every day. I saw the weird stories…" he trailed off and sat down on the other bed, facing his brother. "The kind of stuff we used to chase."

Dean looked at him. "And you said what? "Not my problem"?"

"Yes. And you know what? The world went on," Sam explained.

"People died, Sam," Dean said.

"People will always die, Dean. Or maybe another hunter took care of it. I don't know, but the point is, for the first time, I realized that it wasn't only up to me to stop it," Sam said.

"Hmm. So what was it, hmm? What could possibly make you stop just like that? A girl? Was there a girl?" Dean asked.

I cringed. Yeah. There was a girl all right.

Sam shook his head. "The girl had nothing to do with it."

"There was a girl," Dean said.

"Yeah. There was. And then there wasn't. Any more questions?" Sam asked.

"There wasn't. So you two aren't currently together?" I asked.

"No," Sam said.

Sam is sitting on the edge of one of the beds.

"Listen, I know this is gonna sound crazy to you. I don't even necessarily need you to understand. But...you need to know. I didn't just drop out, Dean. I found something. Something I've... never had all my life," Sam said. "And as for you, I thought you'd understand about moving on. You did."

I winced. "Yeah, I did, but I also never thought I was going to go into purgatory either."

Dean was on the floor leaning against the other bed, with his back towards us.

"Yeah, what's her name?" Dean asked.

"Amelia," Sam replied.

"So, what, you, uh, you dropped your peanut butter in her chocolate? How'd it happen?" Dean asked.

Sam winced. "I hit a dog."

Dean turned around and pointed a finger at him, "I knew I smelled dog."

"And I knew you'd throw a bitch fit," Sam said.

"Hey, the rules are simple, Sam. You don't take a joint from a guy named Don, and there's no dogs in the car!"

"All right, what about you? You and Kaylee," Sam said.

"What about us?"

"Look at you. You've still got that look. You're shaky. You're on edge. What was it like?" Sam wondered.

"You wouldn't believe us if we told you," Dean said, sharing a solemn look with me.

"Try me," Sam said.

"It was bloody. Messy. 31 flavors of bottom-dwelling nasties. Hell, most days felt like 360-degree combat. But there was something about being there," Dean said.

"Something unreal," I added.

Dean was standing now, holding the vampire's weapon. I stood beside him.

"It felt pure," Dean and I said at the same time.

"What, no thanks for saving your hide?" the vampire asked.

"Sure. I won't shove this up your ass," Dean said.

"Mm. Awful strange way to punch your meal ticket, friend. I got something you need," the vampire taunted.

Dean and I looked at each other. "Yeah, what's that?"

"A way out," he said.

Dean and I laughed. "Even a dental apocalypse like you knows there's no such thing."

"There is if you're human. God has made it so. At least that's the rumor," he said.

"Bull," Dean said.

"Suit yourself. Maybe you've gone native. Maybe you like being man and woman meat for every Tom, Dick, and Harry."

It did get addictive. I'll give him that.

"Prove it," Dean said.

"Nah. You're either in or you're out."

"So you just want to guide me out of Purgatory out of the goodness of your undead heart?" Dean asked.

"More or less," the vampire nodded.

"What's in it for you?" Dean asked.

The vampire smirked. "I'm hopping a ride."

"What?" Dean asked as we glanced at each other with uncertainty.

"It's a human portal, jackass. Only humans can pass through. I show you the door, you hump my soul to the other side," the vampire explained.

Dean nodded. "So you're looking for a soul train."

"Sure. If that's what you're into," the vampire said.

"And how do I know this isn't a set-up? How do I know I ain't gonna end up like your friend over there?" Dean asked.

"He was my friend. Now you are. First rule of Purgatory, kids. You can't trust nobody," he said.

"You just asked me to trust you," Dean said.

"You see? You're getting it now."

"Hmm. First we find the angel," Dean demanded.

"Mm, four's a crowd, chief," he said.

"Well, hey. Either you're in or you're out," Dean smirked at him.

We walked onto campus. I wore a grey suit while the boys wore black suits and I had on a light pink blouse underneath. I had my hair up in a tight bun with very little wisps coming out of. Sam gave me a fake ID as someone who was in training for the FBI.

We met with Kevin's girlfriend and her roommate.

"The last time I saw Kevin was, like, a year ago," Channing was telling us.

"When he disappeared?" Sam asked.

Channing nodded. "Mm-hmm. He stole his mother's car because he thought he was on a mission from God or something? It was crazy.

"Shut up! My friend Adam – who got addicted to Adderall but got a perfs on his SATs, so it was totally worth it – same thing," the roommate said.

"Shut up!" Channing yelled back at her.

"Serious. Mission from God."

Sam cleared his throat. "Look, Channing, we know Kevin was here."

"No, he wasn't."

"And we understand if you're trying to protect him. But nobody can protect Kevin better than we can," Sam said.

Channing gave us a look. "I hate Kevin. I wouldn't protect him."

"I thought you two had a thing," Dean said.

Channing scoffed. "Yeah, when he was going to Princeton."

"Wow. Just like that?" Dean asked.

"Yeah," the roommate said.

"Mm-hmm."

We walked out onto the college campus with that load of information in our heads.

"So why would Kevin come sniffing around here if not to see her?" Dean asked.

Sam shook his head. "No idea. Maybe we should split up, ask around, see if anybody's seen him?"

"Yeah, Asian kid, yea high, at a university. That should be easy," Dean said.

~*SPN*~

Sam and I were seated at a picnic table. He was on hi laptop until he saw a dog barking.

"That remind you of her?" I asked.

"Uh, what?" Sam looked back at me.

"The girl. Amelia. What was she like?" I asked.

"She was…a lot like you actually. Kind, sweet, hard on the outside but kind once you got to know her," Sam smiled stiffly at me.

"Well what happened to her?"

"We dated for six months and then her supposed dead husband came back into the picture. I let her go find him," Sam said.

"Sam….I'm sorry," I said.

"For?"

"Being jealous. I would've wanted you to move on with your life. I'd want you to be happy, and like you said we're not dating right now. So, yeah," I said.

"You're jealous of Amelia?" Sam asked.

I laughed a bit. "Yeah, guilty. I um, when we first met I had the biggest crush on you. It was gradual at first, and then all I kept thinking about in purgatory was getting home to you, and I just never expected…well, I don't know really. I mean it's okay if you never liked me back in that same way, I totally understand."

"But I do lo…" he began but Dean came over to us.

"Don't judge me. I got bubkis," he said and sat down next to me.

"Well…" Sam said. A waitress put a plate of food in front of Sam.

"And here you go," The waitress said.

"Ah, thank you." Sam pushed the plate in front of him towards Dean.

"Sweet mother of God. It's for me? Seriously?" Dean asked. I smiled at him, knowing he'd be so happy to have real food again. He looked happy anyway.

"Check this out. So, I went through campus security archives around the time Kevin should have been here," Sam said. Dean took a bite of his burger. "Anyone look familiar?" Sam turned the laptop around to show us. Dean chewed with his eyes closed. The laptop showed security footage of Kevin wearing a baseball cap.

"Dude, it's a burger," Sam said.

"Oh, let him enjoy it," I said with a smile. Sam smiled at me.

"It's a treasure. All right, so, what, Kevin comes all the way to campus and doesn't see his girlfriend?" Dean asked.

Sam shrugged. "I don't know... but Kaylee and I went to the computer lab and found the computer he was on."

"And?"

"And we found the website he was visiting, found his account username, hacked in to the website, found when else this username logged in, and then I reverse-tracked the IP address back to the original user, Kevin, who has apparently been using the same wireless router for the past two months," Sam explained.

"That is spectacular work. Any chance I can get that in English?" Dean asked.

"Yeah. I think he's in Iowa – at a coffee shop," Sam showed him the laptop again with a map on the screen.

Fairfield, Iowa

Sam, Dean, and I closed the doors of the impala and walked towards a church.

"A church? You sure this is right?" Dean asked.

"Barista at the coffee shop swears he's seen Kevin ducking in here for the past few months," he knocked on the door. "Kevin. It's Sam and Dean Winchester with Kaylee McGrath the psychic. Open up."

Sam shook his head as Dean picked the lock. We walked inside once it was open, though got sprayed with borax from a water gun he was holding. I spit it out grimacing at the taste.

"Stop! Stop! Not Leviathans. It's us." Dean cried, holding up his hands.

"What the hell happened to you guys?" Kevin asked, who looked frightened and different from the last time I'd seen him.

"Cliff Notes? Kaylee and I went to Purgatory. Sam hit a dog." Dean summed it up.

"For real?" Kevin asked. Dean wiped his face with his sleeve. "You want some towels?"

Kevin led us into the church. We spotted the symbols on the walls

"Who taught you all this?" Dean asked.

Kevin shrugged. "I guess... God."

"God taught you how to trap demons?" Sam asked with uncertainty.

"Technically, yeah," Kevin nodded.

"Wait, wait, hold on. Crowley kidnapped you. I saw that. But then you left a message saying you escaped. How?"

"Well...First, he took me to a warehouse. There was a tablet there, like the last one."

Dean furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait, there's another tablet? So another Word of God."

"Yes," Kevin nodded.

"How many Words of God are there?" Dean asked.

"I just became a Prophet, like, a year ago," Kevin replied.

"Well, did this tablet have a name?" Sam asked.

""Demons."" Kevin said.

"What about demons?"

"As far as I could tell... everything."

Kevin continued.

"What about Hell Gates?" Sam asked.

"There's one in Wisconsin. The tablet told me how to open it. There were ingredients for a spell," Kevin explained.

"You showed the King of Hell how to open a Hell Gate? So that all the demons in Hell could come out all at the same time?"

"What? No." Kevin shook his head and then continued. Kevin smiled. "I told Crowley I was opening a Hell Gate, but I was reading from another chapter – how to destroy demons."

"You son of a bitch," Dean commented proudly. I smiled fondly at how good Kevin had become in fooling Crowley.

"Wait. Kevin? Where's the tablet now?" Sam asked.

"Safe," Kevin said.

"Safe where?" Sam asked.

"Hey. As long as it's safe, okay? Were you able to read anything else off the tablet before you stashed it?" Dean asked.

"Only the stuff about closing the gates of Hell. Forever." He said. I widened my eyes. That was new information.

"Come again?" Dean asked.

"Banish all demons off the face of the Earth, lock them away forever. That could be important, right?" Kevin asked.

Sam, Dean and I looked at each other.

"Closing the gates of Hell forever? Yeah. Yeah, that could be important."

We walked outside the church.

"Okay, if this kid is right, he's sitting on a bombshell. Hell, he is the bombshell," Dean said and Sam looked away. "What?"

"That. I mean, there's no way that Kevin's getting out of this intact, is there?" Sam asked.

"Well, he's doing pretty well for himself so far," Dean said.

Sam nodded. "Yeah, he got out."

"And now he's in it... whether he likes it or not." Dean said.

"So...free will, that's only for you?" Sam asked.

"I can't believe what I'm hearing. Sam, we have an opportunity to wipe the slate clean. We take Kevin to the tablet, he tells us the spell, we send every demon back to hell – forever. Every single bastard that destroyed our lives, killed our mother, killed Jess, brought Kaylee into this? And you're not sure?"

I looked at Sam soulfully. He didn't say a word. Sam walked back into the church to talk to Kevin, leaving Dean and I to wonder.

But I felt something odd. "Dean… something's wrong," I said.

"What is it?"

"Something's coming!" I said. We walked back into the church.

"We got company. Sam," He handed Sam a knife, and he picked up a weapon for me, and himself, the same ones from Purgatory.

"What the hell is that?" Sam asked as the floorboards shook underneath us.

"It's Purgatory," Dean said. "Keep Kevin safe!" He told me. I got right by Kevin to defend him. The doors flew open revealing two demons.

"Dean Winchester. Kaylee McGrath, the psychic. Back from Purgatory.

"Spanky the demon," Dean said. Sam moved to protect us.
"Yeah, I heard about you. You're the one who uses too much teeth, right?" Dean asked.

The demons rushed for Dean and Sam, they get into a fight. Kevin squirted at one of the demons with holy water while Sam killed one of the demons with the knife. I gripped mine tightly in case they came after me and Kevin.

"Dean!" Sam cried. He threw the knife to Dean, who was struggling with the other demon. He finally killed it with the knife.

"Hello, boys," Crowley entered the church. My hair stood back up and I tensed at his presence. Channing was right beside him.

"Dean. Kaylee. You're looking... well, let's just say Purgatory didn't do you any favors. Where's your angel?"

"Ask your mother," Dean said. I wanted to hit Crowley on the head but Dean held me back.

"There's that grade-school zip. Missed it. I really did," Crowley said. "Moose. Still with the pork chops. I admire that."

"Let Channing go," Kevin said.

"That's not Channing, Kevin. Not anymore," Dean glared at him.

"What an awful thing to say to the boy. Of course it's Channing. Kev. Last time we danced, you stole my tablet and killed my men. Tell you what. Come with me now, bygones. And I'll let the girl go back to... What's-the-Point U," Crowley said.

"He's lying. You won't get Channing back. She's probably dead already," Dean said.

Crowley sighed. "Will you please stop saying that? Let the girl speak," he snapped his fingers.

"Kevin?" Channing asked.

"Channing?" Kevin asked.

Poor girl.

"What's going on?" Channing asked.

"There's a demon in you, and you're going to your safety school," Kevin said.

"What?!" Channing freaked out.

"But it's gonna be okay," Kevin said.

"I-I-I-I just – I can't," Crowley said.

Kevin lunged forward. I held him back. "No, no, wait."

Crowley snapped his fingers again and Channing's eyes turned black.

"Okay. I'll do it."

"Kevin," Sam warned.

"Myself for the girl. But this ends. All right? No fighting, no nothing. It ends," Kevin demanded.

"Can't let you do that, buddy," Dean said.

"Or what? You'll kill me?" Kevin asked. He turned to Crowley. "I'll grab my stuff," he left.

"Chin up, gentlemen. I'm a professional," Crowley said.

"This ain't over by a long shot, Crowley," Dean promised.

"Really, Dean, who writes your stuff? A marshmallow? Come on, Kevin. Chop, chop," he paused. "Kevin?"

Crowley took a step forward. Dean raised the knife. Crowley snapped his fingers and the knife glowed red. Dean dropped it.

"Aah!" Dean cried out.

"Ready, boys?" Crowley asked. "Oh and Kaylee. If you're still up for being Queen of Hell…."

"Over my dead body," I hissed.

He chuckled at me. "That can be arranged." Sam stepped protectively of me as he walked passed us.

"Kevin!"

Dean picked up the knife.

Another door opened in the church. Kevin is standing in the room holding the end of a cord.

"Kevin." Crowley said.

Kevin pulled the cord and holy water dropped onto Crowley and Channing, causing them to yell.

"Sam, Dean, Kaylee. Run !"

We ran outside the church and got inside the impala.

"Find another meat suit," Crowley said. Black smoke flew out of Channing's mouth. We drove away slowly watching as Crowley snapped Channing's neck with his hand. She fell to the ground and Crowley wiped his face with his handkerchief.

~*SPN*~

We stopped at a gas station. Kevin was seated beside me in the backseat of the impala. He was so forlorn it broke my heart. I felt bad for him.

Dean's phone rang. "Hello? Wrong number." He hung up. "Automated jackass. All right, anybody want anything?"

I shook my head silently.

"I'm good," Sam said. Dean turned towards us. Kevin and I didn't respond. He looked at Sam.

"Kevin? How you holding up?"

"Awesome. The king of Hell just snapped my girlfriend's neck. How about you?" Kevin asked.

We looked at one another.

"All right, listen to me. I'm sorry about your girlfriend, okay? I am. But the sooner you get this, the better. You're in it now, whether you like it or not. That means you do what you got to do. I'm hitting the head."

But I knew better. That phone call was definitely from Benny and if we could use anyone's help right now, it would be his.
