Vampire Crazy (Part 2)
(Back with Stan…)
Some deep part of his of his mind told him that letting out five starving vampires was a bad idea, but he couldn't stand seeing someone treated like this. It didn't matter that they weren't human, they were still people who had rights.
"It's okay." Stan assured them as he walked closer, the caged teens growled, he didn't blame them. Mr. Bratsman had captured them, who knew what terrible things he had done to keep them in line. "I'm not going to hurt you." He stops at the line of blood roses and starts kicking them away from the bars. "Snow can you bend the bars back?" He asked.
"Yeah, just get those things as far away as you can." Snow orders.
"I can't believe you're here." Thorn looks both relieved and cross at the same time.
"Does mom know you're here?" Angel asked Blake.
"No, are you crazy?" Blake shook his head as he rolled up his sleeves preparing to help Snow pry open the bars. "You know how dad felt about you leaving. If he finds out you got caught, no one will ever be allowed to leave ever again."
"How did you even find us?" Fang asked.
"The internet doofus." Blake retorted. "You're famous stars all Snow had to do was look up 'Popular Vampire Teen Bands' and you were the first thing that popped up."
"Wow we're really that popular?" Luna asked looking as if she was in a dreamy daze.
"Seriously, the guy kidnapped us and has been holding us against our will and all you care about is the popularity." Thorn snapped.
"Of course not." Luna said. "I know it's bad, and even though this isn't the way we wanted it, we are living our dream guys. Everyone knows our name and our songs."
"I told you he was bad news." Blake hissed. "I know I'm younger, but you idiots should really start listening to me."
Angel sighed. "Yeah you were right, we should have known."
"I should have been there." Snow said. "I would have known."
"You can't blame yourself." Thorn told her sister. "This guy knew exactly what to say to get us to do what he wanted."
"He also knew how to keep us where he wanted." Fang added. "He was prepared."
"How did he even find out?" Stan asked. "I mean you guys don't usually going around telling people you're vampires…do you?"
"No, it's forbidden." Fang growled.
"We had to." Snow reasoned, reading his mind. "If he's going to help us protect you than he needs to know what he is getting into."
"But can we trust him?" Angel asked.
"Hey, if I can save a Mermanatee from a public swimming pool without anyone finding out, then I can save a bunch of vampires."
"Wait you saved a what?" Blake looked at him dumbfounded.
"Half manatee half mermaid." Stan explained.
"From a public pool?" Blake looked stunned.
"Long story." Stan admitted as he moved the last bit of the flowers.
"Told you he's good." Snow taunted as she walked over to the bars. "This should work, I can barely feel the flowers now." She grabs the bars on the sealed cage door and starts trying to pull them apart. They bend slightly, but Snow is struggling. "Blake…"
"On it." Blake moves past Stan and grabs the bars as well, together with their combined strength the young vampires pull the bars far enough apart for the others to squeeze through.
"Come on, he could be back any minute." Stan urged.
"We can't just leave." Luna cried. "He has proof of what we are, he'll expose us to the world."
"Proof? On what?" Stan asked.
"A video, on his phone." Thorn answered, limping out of the cage. She looks dizzy and disoriented.
"How long has been since you've fed?" Snow asked as she caught her before she falls over.
"Three, maybe four days." Thorn groaned.
"We won't get far tonight." Snow stated the obvious.
"I have a plan." Stan said, looking serious. "But you guys have to trust me."
"You can't tell them." Snow said, reading his mind. "We already broke the rules enough."
"Relax, my family doesn't have to know everything to help." Stan assured her as he goes for the door. "You get them out through the back, wait for me in the ally."
"Where are you going?" Blake asked.
"To get the evidence." Stan answered before slipping out into the hall.
"Do you really think we can trust him?" Dusk asked Snow.
"I know the first human you trusted turned out to be a slime ball." Snow answered. "But I'm not asking you to trust Stan, I'm asking you to trust me."
You know we do." Thorn rasped.
"Then let's go." Snow ordered and together she and Blake helped the starving teens out into the back ally.
Back at the shack, Mabel is just closing the gift shop. "Have a good night Danny." She waved to the redheaded teen.
"See you tomorrow Ms. Pines." Danny said before walking out.
The phone rings and Mabel picks it up. "Mystery Shack, Ms. Mystery speaking."
"Hey, Grauntie Mabel, it's me." Stan says quietly on the other line.
"Stan? Is everything okay?" Mabel asked. "Why are you whispering?"
"Sorry can't explain right now, hey I have some friends whose ride flaked on them. Can you pick us up?"
"Of course." Mabel grabs her purse. "I'm on my way, stay away from any shady figures. I'll be there in five." She hangs up and rushes out the door Just as Ford, Fids, Heather, and Buddy arrive.
"Everything okay?" Ford asked her.
"Oh yeah, Stan is just, he and some friends got held up at the arcade." Mabel said, thinking fast. "He needs me to pick them up."
"Oh okay, we'll be upstairs." Ford said and smiled as she ran off.
What was that all about?" Heather asked.
"Oh, Stan went to the concert, but he doesn't want us to know." Ford said as he led them inside.
"That poseur!" Heather shouted, offended.
"That's Stan for you, he'd rather go alone then admit he's just another nerd." Ford reasoned.
"Well, I hope it was worth it." Buddy said. "Because he missed out on souvenirs." He said holding up his bag of new merch.
Meanwhile back at the Civic Center Stan hangs up the phone from the hallway. He had five minutes to steal Ergman Bratsman's phone and meet the others outside.
"I'm telling you man we need to get rid of those monsters and wash our hands of this." A voice from down the hall whispered.
Stan creeped forward slowly.
"Are you kidding, these freaks are a gold mine." Ergman Bratsman argued. They were backstage, cleaning up. The man with him was obviously the stagehand, or maybe Bratsman's extra muscle. He was big and muscular. He looked like a biker with his black leather outfit and dirty blond hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Stan kept creeping closer, Bratsman was right by the hall, with his back to him and he was big enough to hide Stan from the other guy's view. He looks closer and notices a cell phone peeking out of Bratsman's back pocket.
He smiles and skillfully pulls it out without the fat man even noticing. Man, it was nice to see his pick pocketing skills were of use after all. 'Eat that sixer.' He taunted his brother mentally.
With the phone safely in hand he backs away until he is safely out of sight. From there he runs back out the door leading to the alleyway. "Guys?" He whispered.
"Over here." Blake said, his eyes glowing in the dark.
"Dude, you didn't tell me you could do that." Stan said, he squints in the darkness and sees Snow standing beside a large duffle bag.
"What's with that?" He asked.
"You called for a ride." Snow said as if it was obvious. "Five starving teens would cause too many questions."
"Okay, but how do they all fit in there? Did they turn into bats?" Stan asked doubtfully.
"What did I say about the books?" Blake growled.
"Oh right, not everything you read is true." Stan reminded himself. "Still how-"
"No time, she's here." Snow stated as Mabel's car pulled up.
"The Pines Mobile?" Blake asked as he read the license plate.
"Yep." Stan stepped out leading the way as Blake and Snow lugged the bag behind him.
"Hey Aunt Mabel." Stan waved.
"Oh, thank heavens, are you kids alright, you sounded so tense on the phone." Mabel looks down and notices the bag and the two kids holding it. "Uh Stan?" She asked.
"Oh, these are friends, they bought a lot of stuff inside." He explained. "Filled up a whole bag full of merch." He opens the door and allows Snow and Blake to get in before sliding in himself.
"I'm Snow and this is my cosine Blake." Snow introduces them.
"Well, I'm Mabel Pines." Mabel introduced herself. "Did you kids need me to drop you off somewhere?"
"We live out of town." Snow answered. "There was supposed to be a bus to take us back but…"
"Stupid bus." Mabel muttered. "Wouldn't be the first time its left people out to dry? Well I suppose I could take to the shack for now. Is there anyone you can call?"
"My father should be up." Blake answered.
Mabel nodded and began to drive, moments later Bratsman and the other guy come running outside.
"Those pest! I can't believe they got away!" Bratsman was saying.
"They must have had help boss." The other guy, Trever was saying.
You think?" Bratsman snapped sarcastically. He should have known to be more careful. The vampires were from here after all. Of course they would try to escape being this close to home. He reaches for his phone only to remember at the last second that it was gone. He turns just in time to see The Pines Mobile license plate before it turns out of sight. "Trever you're from here, the name Pines mean anything to you?"
"Pines? Oh yeah the old lady who owns the supernatural novity shop, her last name is Pines." Trever answered. "Wait…you don't think."
"Oh I do." Bratsman smiled. "Looks like someone's trying to steal our meal ticket."
"Well, I guess we'll just have to fix that." Trever said.
"Oh we will." Bratsman concluded. "And I know exactly how we'll do it."
(Back At the Shack…)
Stan sighed as he pulled off his fake wig and Blood Rush T-shirt. Mabel had just pulled into the drive way and Stan was trying to hide the fact that he had gone to the concert.
"So what's the story?" He asked Mabel.
"Well, I told your brother you were at the arcade and you and your friends needed a ride." She informed him.
"Nice." Stan sighed in relief.
"Wait you lied about the concert to your brother, but not your Aunt?" Blake asked looking confused.
"I'm the keeper of secrets." Mabel said mysteriously. "Even one as silly as this." She added light heartedly.
"It's not silly." Stan whined. "Bands are nerdy." He explained. "Besides my brother would never let me live it down if he found out I went after making such a fuss about it."
Mabel goes to say something when Snow goes stiff. "Something wrong Sweetie?"
"Oh I need to use the bathroom." Snow stated as she gets out.
"Weak bladder." Blake explained as he grabbed the duffle bag and followed her out.
"Stan?" Mabel asked as Stan was getting out.
"Yeah?" Stan asked.
"Do I need to be worried about your friends?" Mabel asked.
Stan sighed. "Okay look, honesty time…their parents have no idea they went tonight." He admitted.
"I thought so." Mabel shook her head.
"You gonna rat them out?" Stan asked.
"No, I remember doing my fair share of sneaking out at your age." Mabel explained. "I'm here for you Stan, but I can't help if you're not honest with me."
Stan nodded.
"Anything else I need to know?" Mabel asked.
"Nope." Stan lied.
"Alright, I won't rat them out, but I am not letting them get on a bus this late at night either." Mabel reasoned. "They can stay the night and take the bus in the morning."
"Thanks Aunt Mabel." Stan said, looking relieved.
"Alright, well, let's get them settled." Mabel said as they get out of the car. They meet Snow and Blake inside.
"Well there is a phone in the kitchen that you can use, and Stan there should be an inflatable mattress in the attic closet." Mabel said as she kept walking towards her room. "I'm heading to bed, you kids don't stay up too late."
"We're staying the night?" Blake asked.
"We have to." Snow whispered. "The others are too weak."
"It's okay, we can use the breakroom." Stan said as Heather, Ford, Buddy and Fiddleford walk downstairs.
"Hey Stan, how was the arcade." Heather asked with a smirk.
"Same old." Stan relied evenly. "How was the concert?"
"It was actually pretty cool." Ford answered. "You missed out on a lot of fun….what's with the bag?"
"Uh... money!" Stan lied. "Money that we stole!"
"We are criminals!" Snow added.
Heather laughed. "Nice dress." she says pointing to Snow's homemade Blood Rush dress.
"Thanks I made it for tonight's concert, but they sold out of tickets by the time I got there." Snow looks really put out. Like she actually was disappointed she missed the show.
"The Arcade was better." Blake said, extending out a hand to Ford. "Hi, I'm Blake your Aunt was nice enough to let us crash here tonight."
"Oh cool." Ford smiles. "I'm sure we can all fit in the attic.
"Actually we're going to use the breakroom." Stan said, pushing Snow and Blake along. "See you guys in the morning."
"Oh…" Ford looks disappointed. "Okay, see you…I guess."
They watch Stan and his new friends as they disappear.
"Okay that was…"
"Odd." Ford said, interrupting Heather.
"Yeah, you don't suppose he's in some kind of trouble, do you?" Fids asked.
"Knowing Stan absolutely." Buddy answered.
Ford shrugs it off. "Well if he doesn't want our help there is nothing much we can do."
The friends all muttered their agreement, after all they couldn't help if he wouldn't let them.
"Well let's just hope he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew." Ford said as he led the others back up stairs.
Meanwhile, in the breakroom, Stan watches as Snow opened the bag, and the members of Blood Rush fell out gracefully one at a time. "Okay, you guys have to tell me how they all fit in there." He said with awe.
"Later." Snow promised as she helped Thorn sit on the couch.
"So what excuse did you tell dad." She asked.
"I told him we were going to your show and we're staying the night at your hotel." Snow reasoned. "I don't think he bought it, he thinks you guys are barley scrapping by."
"He never did have faith in the music business." Thorn agreed. "So what is the plan?"
"You guys won't get far without feeding." Blake said the obvious as he checked to make sure no one was ease dropping at the door.
Stan can't help but tense at his words, everyone gives him a look. "What, I know you said you don't feed off humans." He argued. "But you also said unless you're starving, and you guys are starving."
Snow gives him a reassuring look. "Stan I promise, your family is perfectly safe.
"We cannot thank you enough for your help." Luna agreed.
"So what do we do?" Blake asked.
"Well we got the evidence." Stan said holding up the phone.
Snow takes the phone and crushes it into pieces as fine as sand. "What evidence?" She joked.
"Okay so our secret is safe." Angel shakes his head, it was hard to think clearly when he was running on so little energy. "Now what."
Suddenly Snow goes stiff again.
"Snow?" Stan asked, but stops as they all hear a car screeching to a halt outside. Stan runs over to the window and looked outside.
"It's Bratsman!" He gasped.
Thorn hisses. "How did he find us?"
"He saw the car as we pulled away." Snow explained, no doubt reading the producer's mind. "He doesn't know we are here. He only thinks it because of your Aunt's job."
"Stupid supernatural nick-nacks braking our cover." Stan grumbled. "Why couldn't she sale knitted sweaters."
"She does what now?" Blake asked looking alarmed.
"She sales cheap, fake knock offs of the real deal." Stan assured him. "Trust me my Grauntie doesn't think anything about the supernatural is real."
Blake switches his focus back to the window, outside Bratsman steps out of his limousine with his lackey Trever.
"So what's the plan?" Trever whispered.
The front door of the shack opens and Mabel steps out. "Can I help you gentlemen with something?"
"Yes Ma'am." Bratsman puts on the fake charm. "I'm the producer of Blood Rush, Mr. Bratsman, and my band has gone missing." He looks panicked. "I tried their phones and no one is answering. I noticed your car leaving the center and I was hoping you might have seen them."
"Oh no I was there picking up my Nephew." Mabel answers honestly. "I didn't see anyone else but his friends."
"Is it possible that I could ask him?" Bratsman asked hopefully. "Please Ma'am, these kids, their parents put them in my care, I don't know what I'd do if something happened to them."
"Of course, give me a minute." Mabel turns and calls out. "Stan!"
"What do I do?" Stan asked feeling like a deer in the headlights.
"Just walk down there and say you haven't seen anything." Blake said.
"Stanley can you and your friends come here for a sec?" Mabel's voice was louder now.
"We will go." Snow looks to Thorn and her friends with determination. "It's okay, we got this." She takes the lead then with Blake and Stan following her out.
"Yeah Aunt Mabel?" Stan asked as they reached the door.
"Mr. Bratsman here wants to ask you kids something." Mabel said.
"Yes Sir?" Stan asked, as he met the slime balls gaze.
"Hello son, kids." He looks to Snow and Blake. "I'm the producer of Blood Rush and I was wondering if you happened to see them after the show."
"No sir." Stan said, making sure to give nothing away. "We didn't get any back stage passes."
Bratsman looks from Stan to Snow and then his eyes narrow on Blake. Then he pulls a look of fake concern over his face as he sighs. "Well looks like I'll have to call the local police." He reaches for his phone. "Tarnation, I must have left my cell at the center, Trever?" He looks to his lackey hopefully.
Trever reaches into his pockets. "Sorry boss, must have left mine too." He shrugs.
Snow goes noticeably ridged.
"Ma'am, I hate to bug you more, but can we use a phone?" Bratsman asked.
Mabel straightens, and maneuvers herself in front of Stan and his friends. "I'm sorry Sir, but my lines are down." She lied. "The phone booth across the park lot works though." She points to the phone booth behind them. "I hope you find your band." She says closing the door. "Good night." She adds.
Bratsman stops the door from closing with his foot. "Ma'am-"
The gesture is an aggressive one, and Snow realizes his ploy a little too late.
Blake's eyes flash blue as he gets ready to fight the intruder off.
"Yes?" Mabel asked oblivious to Blake.
Bratsman however sees Blake and smiles. "Thank you for all your help." He says as he removes his foot.
"Of course." She smiles, a thin forced line on her face and closes the door.
Stan watches as she locks all three bolts.
Meanwhile Snow was busy trying to get Blake under control.
"Uh is everything okay?" Stan asked his aunt.
Mabel puts on a brave smile. "Oh yeah of course, that guy just gave me a bad vibe." She reasoned. "You kids okay?" She asked.
Blake was busy rubbing his eyes. "Yeah, he just startled me." He admitted.
"It's okay." Mabel assured him, looking out the window. "I'll call the sheriff, if he doesn't leave. Stan you kids make sure all the doors are locked."
"On it." Stan said as Ford and the others come down the stairs.
"What's going on?" Ford asked.
"Some weirdo trying to get in the shack." Stan answered as he pushed past him. "Hey, can I barrow Gompers." He added.
"Yeah, only if you tell me what's going on." Ford said.
Stan ignores him and leads Gompers to the back door where he opens it. From the door, the kids can see Bratsman and Trever talking outside.
"That's not some weirdo." Heather said. "That's Ergman Bratsman the producer of Blood Rush."
"What's he doing here?" Buddy asked.
"Stanley." Ford growls at his brother as he remembered the large duffle bag. "What did you do?"
"Nothing, honest." Stan lied as he whispered something in Gompers ear. The goat moves along once he's finished, heading towards the limousine.
"They must be around here somewhere," Bratsman was saying. "I don't care what it takes, I'll tear this place apart if I have to." He turns to see that a goat has snatched up his license plate. "Hey!" He shoos it away.
"What now boss?" Trever asked.
"We'll leave for now...park the car where she can't see us, then well break in to her shop while she's asleep." They get back in the limousine and drive off.
Meanwhile Gompers, takes license plate back to Stan.
"Good goat," Stan said, taking the plate.
"So are you going to tell your real friends what's going on?" Buddy snapped angrily. He could see the girl and boy that Stan brought home watching them intently as they whispered among themselves.
"You didn't really steal money did you?" Ford asked.
"No." Stan answered. "But we did take something." He admitted. "Something that Ergman Bratsman stole from them." He gestured to Snow. "He'll do anything to get it back."
"So you did go to the concert." Fids said accusingly.
"Yes and no." Stan admitted. "I never saw the show."
"You're really not going to tell us are you?" Heather asked, looking offended.
Stan sighed. "I'm sorry guys, I promised." He whispered looking to Stan hopefully. "You just got to trust me on this."
Ford sighs but nod all the same. "Okay, we'll help if we can, but you have to tell us what you stole."
Stan looks to Snow who nods. "Follow us."
The friends follow them to breakroom, and what they find there is quiet the shock.
Thorn looks up at the new comes and waves. "Hi." She says looking a bit worried.
Heather blinks once, twice. "Please tell me you didn't..." She whispered.
"Yep." Stan admitted. "We stole the band."
