Vampire Crazy (Part 3)
(Back with Stan…)
"You stole his band!" Ford exclaimed a little too loud.
"Stole?" Blake snapped. "That slime ball lured my brothers and his friends into accepting a contract with them. Then he held them against their will and refused to let them return home."
"Yeah bro." Stan insisted. "When I arrived they were in a cage!"
"A cage!?" Heather looks fear stricken, and that's when she notices it for the first time.
Ford notices it too. "Stan they don't looks so good." He said, pulling his brother away. "Have they been eating?"
Stan looked back at thorn and the others nervously before shaking his head.
"Stan this is bigger than us, we have to tell Aunt Mabel what's really going on." Ford insisted.
"We can't." Stan said. "This guy is good, he was ready for them before he kidnapped them." He explained. "He probably stalked them for weeks before approaching them."
"The more reason to tell an adult." Fids added.
"Yeah, this is a normal thing." Bud whispered. "And no offense to your friends but we handle…Well…not normal things."
"So you're saying I shouldn't have done anything?" Stan looked offended.
"No you did a good thing Stanley." Ford assured him. "I'm just saying this is beyond us."
Fids flinches as he notices Fang's well fangs.
"Oh relax their not real." Fang lied. "We just got our teeth to look this way."
Ford has that skeptical look on his face, like he knows something isn't adding up. "SO you don't want to tell Aunt Mabel." He sates. "I bet you don't want to call the police either."
"You can't, our parents will-" Dusk steels herself. "Freak."
"Seriously, there is a madman looking for you and you don't want to tell your parents?" Fids asked.
"I hate to admit it, but he's right." Stan looks put out, he hates picking sides.
"Stan? I thought we could trust you!" Blake snapped.
"You can!" Stan vowed. "I promise, but Bratsman's looking for you! He's not going to give up!"
"What do we do?" Dusk cried.
"This is a disaster." Thorn looks more worried than ever.
"Guys I'm scared." Luna admitted.
"What if we took you home?" Stan asked, suddenly getting an idea.
"What?" everyone asked.
"You guys said you live local." Stan explained. "Bratsman's coming back, there is no way he's giving up."
"And when he does come back here, we can be long gone." Blake realized.
The band members loo relieved, almost hopeful.
"Ford?" Stan looks to his brother hopefully.
Ford looks to Fids, Heather and Bud, who all nod. He sighs. "Okay, even though I think this is crazy, yeah we'll help."
"Great, you guys stay her and keep "Bratsman busy." Stan ordered. "Meanwhile Blake, Snow and I will sneak them home."
"Seriously, you're choosing them over us?" Bud looks offended, he's not the only one.
"I know it looks that way." Stan said. "But I made a promise, and I never break those." He added looking at Ford. "You know that."
Ford sighs, but nodded, reluctantly. "This is another one of those Merlina things isn't it?" He asked, glancing at Snow.
"What? No, we're just friends." He whispered, blushing. "Besides, it would never work out."
"Yeah thought so." Ford smiled. "We're in."
"Thanks bro." Stan looks relieved.
"I'm your brother, I've always got your back." Ford promised.
"And I got yours." Stan added. "No matter what."
"So we're doing this?" Heather asked.
The twins nodded.
"Then let's do this." Blake growled.
(Back with Bratsman…)
"Now Trevor these brats, we can't underestimate them." Bratsman said as they got out of the car and started sneaking back towards the shack. "With their Aunt's expertise we may be on a slightly more even playing field."
"Ah come on boss their just kids, and the real threats are too weak from hunger to fight back." Trevor argued.
"No, at least one of the other kids is a vamp." Bratsman revealed. "The emo punk, his eyes glowed blue. Vamps with special gifts do that, he's dangerous."
"So what do we do?" Trevor asked.
"No worries, I know their weakness." He holds up a blood rose, the red thorns along its stem gleamed almost evilly in the moonlight. "Let's get them." He smiled as the shack came into view.
"He's here." Ford whispered as he sneaked a peak out the attic window. "Everyone in position?" He asked over his Walkie.
"In position." Heather whispered, she was hiding the phone booth. Her job was to call the police the second the goons broke in.
"Us too." Fids added as he and Buddy stood ready by the door. They sat on either side, hold a fishing line taunt between them.
"Stan?" Ford asked.
"Ready." Stan answered into his Walkie. He, Snow, Blake and the band were by the back door. Each of the younger friends hand to help support a band member or two with standing up right.
"I don't know if we can make it." Luna whimpered. "Thorn looks really bad."
"We'll find you something on the way." Stan promised. "You sure your home isn't far?"
"We have a place in the woods." Blake assured him.
"What like a creepy castle?" Stan stops. "Oh right forget what's in the books-"
"Oh no it's a castle." Blake answered.
"And it is creepy." Snow added.
"I knew it!" Stan exclaimed.
Outside Bratsman motions for Trevor to head towards the back door as he makes for the shop entrance.
"Guys we have a problem." Ford's voice sounds troubled. "Bratsman and the lackey are going in through separate doors. Stan the lackey is heading your way!"
"No to worry." Blake growled, eyes glowing blue. "Unfortunately for him your friends aren't here so I don't have to hold back."
"That's the plan." Stan said. "By the way, why do only your eyes glow?"
"It's a family thing." Blake answered vaguely
"His dad is like king of vampires." Snow shrugs. "No big deal."
Stan looks at Blake, stunned. "You're a Dracula?"
Blake growls as Snow giggles.
Thorn and several other members of the band snort while both Angel and Fang hiss.
"Dracula is a stupid story you humans made up." Blake growled. "Because some war lord happened to drink the blood of his victims."
Stan takes a step back seeing his mistake. "Oh crap, sorry dude, throw away the books, got it."
"You sure?" Blake aske. "Cause you keep bringing it up."
"Well, the books are all we've got." Stan reasoned.
"That's the point." Thorn said. "No offense Stan, but you human are a destructive bunch, many supernatural creatures have gone extinct thanks to your kind."
"OH, sorry I didn't know." Stan looks hurt.
"It's okay, we know not all people are bad." Snow said. "Just like not all vamps are good."
"Oh so some of you are…" Stan trailed off.
"Blood thirsty monsters who prey off humans?" Blake sighed. "Yeah."
"We should have been straight with you from the beginning, but we thought you'd run if…" Snow trailed off.
"Well I did try to run." Stan admitted. "But that doesn't matter." He added as Trevor's shadow appeared in the illuminated window of the back door. "What matters is getting you home." He smiles teasingly. "Your highness. You know this means I've saved two royals, man am I good or what?"
"I swear I'm gonna kill him." Blake hissed.
"Will not." Snow challenged.
"Will too." Angel and Thorn vowed.
The nob of the back door wiggles as Trevor picks the lock and then it's open.
Blake wastes no time pouncing, he moves so fast, it's a blur.
"What the-" Trevor's yelp is cut off as he's thrown across the room where he smacks into the wall before crumpling to the ground.
"Nice." Stan whispered. "Can you two do that?" He asked Angel and Fang.
"Nope, only one member of each generation gets the powers of the royal blood." Fang answers.
"And being born first doesn't mean you're it." Angel added. "Sadly."
"Dude, that's savage." Stan said.
"We need to go." Blake said as Trevor groaned.
"Stan?" Ford's voice asked.
"We're moving, Heather you know what to do." Stan said into the Walkie as they ran out the door, leaving it open behind them.
"Already on it." Heather said as she dials the number for the Sheriff's department. Moments later Sheriff Blubs answered. "Sheriff's office how can we help you."
"Sheriff?" Heather let the fear enter her voice.
"Heather, sweet heart is everything okay?" Sheriff Blubs asked.
"Oh thank goodness, there's someone here, they broke into the shack and started attacking us. I'm scared."
"Now hold on where are you now?" Sheriff Blubs panics and Heather can her a ruckus as if he's rummaging around for something.
"I managed to make it outside, but the others are still in there!" Heather cried, really sell it.
"Just hold on, we're on our way." He assures her. "Durland we've got a break in at the Mystery Shack." He yelled. "Heather our desk secretary is going to stay on line with you okay?"
"Okay." Heather whispered as Bratsman forced his way into the shop. "Please hurry."
Bratsman takes one step inside and trips over himself, or no wait, it's a string. The slimy producer blinks in the darkness and sees two shadows creeping away from the door. "You brats…" He tries to stand, but the string has got his feet tangled tight. "Where is my band!?"
"Your band?" Ford asked as he walked down the stairs dramatically.
"You?" Bratsman, thinks he's Stan, but he's thrown off by the glasses and new clothes. Maybe he wore contacts before and changed his clothes before taking them out for the night."
"You will never see them again." Ford vowed.
"You are messing with powers you don't understand." Bratsman growled.
"Power?" Buddy smiled, it's an evil one that Ford hasn't seen in a while. "Let me show you a thing or two about power."
Meanwhile, outside Stan is struggling to keep Dusk up right. They have just reached the tree line when they hear Trevor shouting.
"You rotten kids, get back here!"
"Hurry!" Snow forced her sister to move faster.
"No good." Thorn groaned. She had really been hoping for the meal they promised once they entered the forest. But with the goon right behind them they would have no time, unless…
"We have to split up." Stan knew it sounded crazy the moment it came out of his mouth.
"Stan!" Snow wanted to argue.
"He's one guy, he can't follow all of us." Stan reasoned.
"It's a good plan." Blake told her.
"I know, but Dusk will slow you down, you'll get caught." Snow yelled.
"Not if I leave her with you." Stan said. "You could walk on your own if you didn't have to move so fast, right?"
Dusk knew he wanted her to agree, to put on a brave face and tell Snow he'd be okay. Still, she was scared for Stan, he was just a human and he had taken enough risk for them.
"I'll be fine." Stan assured them. "I've battled gnomes, evil wax figures, crazy fake physics, ghost, evil clones, a time traveler, the Summerween trickster-"
"Dude we get it." Blake rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help but look impressed.
"Ah, memories," Stan smiled. "Anyway, bye!" He set Dusk down gently before running off with a loud yell. "Guys this way!"
No one followed him, well no one but Trevor, who fell for the obvious ploy.
"Yep all humans are idiots." Blake decided.
"I'm going to make sure he doesn't get killed." Snow decided. "Get them some food."
"Snow." Blake tried to argue.
"We will need everyone at their best, otherwise we won't make it before sunrise." Snow yelled as she ran off.
SUN RISE!
Blake hadn't event thought of that, in their weaken state they wouldn't be able to fight off sun poisoning. "You guys stay here, I'll be back." He races off in the opposite direction.
(Back with Stan…)
"Get back here you beasts!" Trevor screamed.
Stan kept running, deeper into the woods until he heard what he was looking for. The soft sounds of blue grass music, greeted him and he knew he could run no further. He crouches low in the darkness and holds his breath as Trevor runs past.
"Alright brats I know you're around here somewhere." Trevor growled. He was just on the border of the Kill Billies' Territory. Still, he wasn't close enough.
Stan picks up a rock and throws it past the man.
Trevor turns as the rock hits the ground behind him. "Found you!" he races forward and smiles wickedly as a pair of red glowing eyes greet him. "Stupid vampires, your eyes are giving you away."
"Sorry Mr." Stan said standing up. "But that ain't no vampire."
Trevor looks back at him, confused. He then yelps as an unseen force tackles him to the ground and drags him away.
Stan winces at the sound of his screams.
"Wow brutal." Snow said from beside him.
Stan jumps ten feet and screams as he lands in Kill Billy Territory!
Red eyes close in on him.
"Oh no you don't!" Snow reaches in and pulls Stan back out.
"Geesh Snow, you almost got me killed." Stan gasped.
A series of grunts and ham-boning, could be heard.
"We should go." Snow said, looking warry.
"You too?" Stan asked. "I thought vampires were more…"
"Powerful? Yeah." Snow nodded. "Maybe Blake or his dad could handle a large group like this."
"Oh yeah, I guess that is a lot." Stan agreed as he counted over thirty pairs of eyes.
"We should go." Snow said
""Yeah, god idea." Stan takes the lead as they run as far away as possible until the blue grass was a distant memory. Along with the creatures it provided its ominous soundtrack for.
(Back with Bratsman…)
"No!" Bratsman yelled as he desperately tried to hobble out of the shack. "He's a demon child I swear!"
"Okay, remind me to never get on your bad side." Ford said as he watch the producer's retreat.
"I was actually channeling my sister, Bonnie." Bud admitted. "Evil and tomfoolery were always easiest for her."
"Still, flawless impersonation." Fids admitted. "Gave me the shivers."
"I hope Stan and the others made it okay." Bud said.
"Kids?" Suddenly, the lights turned on and the kids turn to see Mabel.
"Hey Grauntie." Ford said.
"Ford, what's going on?" Mabel asked.
"That producer who came to see Stan tried to break in." Ford explained. "He thinks we stole his band."
"I knew he was shady." Mabel kicked herself. "I should have called the police."
"It's okay Heather is on the phone with them right now." Fids pointed outside to Heather.
Mabel seems to relax when she sees her, but stops as she realizes something. "Ford where is your brother and his friends?"
Ford bites his lip, he hates lying to Mabel, but he promised to have Stan's back. So he decided to meet in the middle and bend the truth. "The other guy broke in the backdoor and chased them outside, I don't know where they went."
"You kids should have woke me." Mabel pulls out a flashlight from a nearby door.
""We're sorry Ms. Pines we thought we could take them on our own." Fids reasoned.
"We were gonna wake you as soon as we got a chance." Bud lied. "But they were trying to break in."
"You were all very brave, but I need you all to stay here and lock the doors." Mabel told them. "Stan needs me!" And with that she races outside and goes for the woods. Thinking Stan and the kids would run there in order to confuse their pursuer.
"Is everything still okay?" Heather couldn't help but jump at the sound of the secretary's voice on the line.
"The man, Bratsman just runaway, and Ms. Pines ran into the woods. I think she's going after the guy who was chasing Stan." Heather answered. She had been telling Mrs. Jones, the police station secretary what was going on as it happened around her. Still, she was surprised to find her own heart beating out of her chest. They had faced actual monsters still the craziest ordeal she ever faced was right now; against two enemies as human as she was.
"All unit change route to the woods." Mrs. Jones was saying, most likely into a police radio. "I repeat we have multiple individuals entering the woods. Including children please engage with caution."
The order struck a nerve with Heather, no one actually believed that the town was a hotspot for the supernatural. And yet, now that she thought about it no one ever bothered to enter the woods. In fact any people avoided getting anywhere near it.
"Heather, sweetie do you think it's safe for you to go back inside?" Mrs. Jones asked, cutting off her train of thought.
"I think so, both men are gone." Heather answered.
"Than do that, and lock the door behind you." Mrs. Jones ordered.
"Okay." Heather hands up and runs inside before closing the door.
"Heather?" Ford looks at her confused and worried.
"They know." Heather told him.
"Know what?" Ford asked.
"The police, they know the woods are dangerous, they just let Bratsman get away all because I told them Stan and the others are in there." Heather explained.
Ford allowed that information to sink in and in a way it did make since. As the police Blubs and Durland would know about the strange things that happen around tow. After all they already knew that the 8½th President Quentin Trembley existed. Who knew what other secrets they were already aware of?
"So he's going to get away with it?" Fids asked.
"Maybe not." Buddy said as he remembered something. "The Slime ball won't get far without a license plate."
The friends sighed in relief all they could do now was hope Stan and the others made it.
(Back with Stan…)
When he and Snow returned to the others he could tell something had changed. The teens no longer looked sick or close to death. He couldn't help but look around for their..."victim" but saw nothing.
"Relax, it was a deer." Snow told him. "Blake didn't think you wanted to see it."
Stan was grateful of that, but he was starting to see why Blake got onto her for her mind reading. "You know, not everyone wants to be read like a book." He told her.
"I know." Snow sighed. "But unfortunately it's not something I can control, I hear thoughts whether I want to or not." She looks hopeful though. "Thorn says one day I'll be able to, I hope she's right."
Stan gives her a reassuring smile. "It will all work out, I promise."
"Guys someone is coming!" Dusk hissed.
"Well this time we can take them." Angel growled.
"Yeah Fang agreed.
"Stay behind me Snow." Thorn stands in front of Stan and her sister protectively, but Snow pushes her away.
"Now it's okay, it's…"
"Stan!" Mabel comes running through the bushes, a look of relief on her face. "Oh thank goodness."
"Aunt Mabel?" Stan ooffed as his great aunt embraced him.
"You kids, I was so scared…" She trails off as she looks around. "Stan is this the Blood Rush Band?"
"We're sorry Ms. Pines." Snow said looking guilty. "We used you and Stan to hide my sister and her friends from Mr. Bratsman."
"Stan had no idea." Brad agreed. "Bratsman was holding them against their will we had to do something."
"I see." Mabel sighed. "I wish you kids would have told me. I could have helped, but I do understand."
"You do?" Fang asked.
"Of course, that Bratsman guy was a creek, no wonder you don't trust adults." Mabel sighed. "Well, the good news is your safe now, Bratsman is gone and…" She looks around. "Where is the other guy?"
"We lost him in the woods back there." Stan pointed from where he and Snow had come from.
"Okay follow me, I can lead you back to the shack." Mabel takes the lead.
Stan looks to the others hopefully, Thorn smiles, "Thank you Ms. Pines, we are forever in you debt."
"It's okay, I'm just glad your all safe, in the morning we'll call your folks and let them know."
"Sounds good to me." Luna yawned slightly. "It would be nice to get some rest."
The twins nodded their agreement as everyone followed Mabel out of the woods.
"Ms. Pines." Sherriff Blubs looks relieved to see them, he had just pulled up to the Mystery Shack and was getting out of his Squad car.
"Are you all alright?" Deputy Durland asked.
"Yes, were fine." Mabel assured him. "It looks like Mr. Bratsman was holding his band against their will."
"My word, what has this world come to?" Deputy Durland shook his head.
"They've agreed to stay here tonight if that's alright sheriff." Mabel says.
"Of course." Sheriff Blubs nods. "You kids have been through enough, don't you worry. We'll find that man and put him away for this. I promise."
"Thank you sir." Blake relaxes slightly. Maybe Snow was right, maybe not all humans were bad after all.
You kids head inside and get some rest." Mabel says. "I'll stay up and keep watch."
"We'll have an officer outside just in case the other guy shows up." Deputy Durland assures her.
"Thank you." Mabel says
Ford smiled as Stan and his friends enter the shack. "So how'd it go?"
"Well we got caught." Stan said. "But at least it was one of the good guys that got us." He watched as his friends went to retreat back into the guest room.
"Thanks for all your help." Snow tells them and looks to Stan.
'We're leaving." Her voice says in his mind, 'Sorry, but we need to make it home before sunrise.'
Stan nodded his understanding.
Snow smiles, and Blake gives Stan a sight wave as she closes the door.
"They're making a run for it aren't they?" Ford asked.
"Yep." Stan admitted.
"And you're still not going to tell us the whole story?" Buddy asked.
"Afraid not." Stan answered.
"Suppose that's fair." Fids agreed.
"Yeah, I wish we'd know if they were okay though." Heather sighed.
"They will be." Stan assured her. "I just know it."
(The Next Day…)
Mabel wasn't too happy that the band and their friends had disappeared into the night, but she understood. They were famous rock stars and probably wanted to avoid the media publicity that was sure to come.
"Are you kids okay?" She asked them as they all sat around the table for breakfast.
"Yeah, it sucks what happened to Thorn and them though." Stan said.
"I know sweetie, and I hate that you had to find out this way." Mabel said as she passed out some pancakes. "But sometimes the worse kind of evil is another human being."
"I hope they are better now." Heather admitted.
"They'll never be okay until they find Bratsman." Buddy pointed out.
"The police are looking." Mabel assured them. "They won't stop until that madman is found."
"Which is hopefully soon." Ford added.
"Hopefully." Fids agreed as he turned on the TV
"The music industry was shaken today at the news that Blood Rush's producer, Ergman Bratsman, has been arrested," Tambry Valentino said on the news.
"Wow, wishing for things does work." Stan snickered.
"Shhh." Ford whispered as Fids turned up the TV.
"After a break in at the local Mystery Shack, a town wide search was started late last night. Wanted for busting his prowl, sources tell us that the teens known as Blood Rush were on the run from the producer, who had been keeping them prisoner since the band first debuted last year. This Morning Bratsman was pulled over for not having a rear license plate." Tambry Valentino continued.
The TV cuts to Bratsman being arrested.
"I'm telling you, the goat took it!" Bratsman said as the cops handcuffed him.
"Tell it to the judge," Sheriff Blubs said.
"Charges have been not filled at this time, but the once beloved producer will be held in county jail, awaiting trial," Tambry said.
"Yes!" Heather cheered. "You tell them mom!"
Stan smiled. "They're safe now." He looks relieved.
"They are." Mabel agreed. "You did a good thing Stan, I am so proud of you, all of you. Helping others is important."
The TV switches to commercials.
"Greetings to all my local science lovers." A man who looked like a school teacher appeared on the screen. "This is Mr. Lux informing you all that it's that time of the year once again. The Summer Science Fair!"
"Science Fair?" Ford perks up.
"Oh yeah they do one every year." Fids explained. "It's a real big deal, college professors from all over come to scout out the talent. Some local kids even got an internship at Harvard."
"That's so cool!" Ford exclaimed. "We should do it." He said to Fids.
"Really?" Fids asked.
"Why not?" Ford asked. "Aunt Mabel, can we?"
"I don't see why not." Mabel said. "In fact, I think doing something educational is a great way to challenge the brain."
"But it's summer vacation." Stan argued. "You're not supposed to challenge your brain."
"Ah leave them alone." Heather whispered as Ford and Fids started spouting ides for possible science projects.
"Yeah, it's just for fun." Buddy agreed. "It's not like it's the end of the world."
Stan relaxed and smiled as he noticed how happy Ford and Fids seemed. "Yeah you're probably right, I mean it's just a Science fair. What could possibly go wrong?"
