Before I write this chapter, I do want to say that I'm well aware of Rotom's learn set in Platinum. I'm just doing a slight change that makes sense to me.
Hearthome Gym
For the last two days, Chris had been training his Bronzor and Rotom- who he nicknamed Asimov- and waking up early in the morning for training. He felt his team was prepared for a battle against the Ghost-type gym leader of Hearthome City, and had intended on waking up at a normal time in the morning. But around the same time this morning that he had been waking up the prior two mornings, the egg that Cynthia gave him began to emanate a bright light. A light that was far too bright for Chris to just sleep through.
He rose up in his motel room bed, rubbing his eyes before looking over to the incubator. It didn't take him long to realize what was going on, as his Marshtomp partner also woke up to see what was going on. He got up out of bed as quickly as he possibly could, and rushed over to the incubator. He removed the lid just in time for the light to dissipate, as the shell cracked from the top, and tiny arms emerged from the upper middle part of the egg. Then a set of closed eyes rolled up, as the newly hatched Pokémon exclaimed "Togiiii!" and stretched its body out. The little one looked up at Chris with a smile on its face. Chris chuckles at the little one, gently scratching it on the top of its head as he pulls out his Pokédex.
He fires up the device, and it records data on the newly hatched Pokémon. The robotic voice speaks. "Togepi: The Spike Ball Pokémon. Togepie uses postive emotions of compasion and pleasure exuded by people and Pokémon. This Pokémon stores up feelings of happiness inside its shell, then shares them with others."
Chris powers down the Pokédex as he continues scratching Togepi's head. The last thing he noticed was that his Togepi was male. "An angelic little critter, aren't ya little guy?" Togepi continues smiling at Chris, his eyes contentedly closed. Chris then has a thought, and steps away to get dressed. "Look after him for a minute, would ya Hawke?" Chris's partner nods, and starts to play with the baby Togepi. Chris pulls some clothes on, and then ties his shoelaces. He also pulls his backpack onto his shoulders, and grabs the flashlight he keeps on the straps of his backpack. Then he heads over to pick up Togepi, and head outside his motel room.
Right outside of his room, Chris turns on his flashlight, and places Togepi inside the basket that was carrying Togepi's incubator. The little baby wasn't wide enough to fill out the basket, but there was a parts shop in the city that might have a small basket he could put Togepi in, and maybe also a pair of goggles. For whatever reason, Chris had a feeling it would be smarter to keep this little Pokémon out of its ball more often than not.
A few hours later, Chris woke up again with the baby Togepi resting beside him. He thinks about waking the little one up, but decides instead to officially capture it in the Poké Ball on the incubator's lid. Togepi sleeps comfortably inside his new Poké Ball along with the rest of the Pokémon in Chris's party, as he rides his Harley over to the parts shop. While the employees at the shop work on securing a new basket and a pair of goggles perfectly sized for Togepi, Chris got on the phone to arrange a time to battle Hearthome's gym leader.
After spending half an hour riding around town, enjoying how much fun Togepi was having riding on the basket of his bike, Chris parks up at the gym. He lets Hawke out of his ball, and then picks up Togepi to carry him inside the gym. Before stepping inside, Chris reads the sign right by the front door. It says the name of the gym, and below is written, "Leader: Fantina. The Alluring, Soulful Dancer!" Chris tilts his head up, and then walks inside. The attendant at the front of the gym leads Chris into the battlefield. Chris handed Togepi to Hawke, and told him to carry the baby off to the side, as neither of them would be participating in this three-on-three battle. Just as in his first two gym battles, rows of lights flickered to life as Chris walked to his end of the battlefield.
Then the lights came on at the other end of the battlefield, and a woman whose hair color matches her purple dress stands with her back turned to Chris. The first thing that Chris noticed was the outrageous way this lady's hair was tied up, followed by the professional dance she did to turn around and face Chris. She smiles confidently, then speaks in a Kalosian accent after letting out a strange noise. "Finally, you have arrived!" She exclaims. "My name if Fantina. Since I came to this country, always I try to learn new things. They hold Contests in this city? I say to myself, enfin, I will excel. C' est une performance! Also, I study Pokémon very much. I have come to be Gym Leader. And so it shall be that you challenge me. But I shall win. That is what a Gym Leader does, non?" At her last words, Fantina activates a Poké Ball.
Chris does the same, and they throw their Poké Ball at the same time. Fantina sends out a Duskull, whilst Chris calls upon his Rotom. The two ghost-types stare each other down, awaiting their trainer's orders. "Asimov, use Thunder Shock!" A jolt of electricity crashes down on Duskull, but it manages to take the hit rather well.
"Duskull, use Will-o-wisp!" A bluish-white flame flies from Duskull's body, and Asimov cannot avoid the attack. Suddenly, a burst of fire emerges from Asimov's body, and it cries out in pain.
"Damn, it's burned." Chris recognized what was going on right away, and was thankful that Rotom was not a physical attacker.
Fantina was prepared to pounce on the situation. "Now Duskull, use Shadow Sneak!"
Chris knew he needed a short moment to get on top of the situation. Before Fantina's Duskull can extend its shadow, Chris goes for a counter. "Asimov, use Flash!" Chris covered his eyes as Asimov's body flashes brightly for a split second, throwing Duskull off, and Asimov completely avoids any damage. But it could do nothing to protect from the next bout of burn damage. Chris growls. "Now, use Thunder Shock!"
"Future Sight!" Fantina calls out once she lowers her arm as well to protect herself from the Flash from Asimov. Duskull's eyes sparkle for a split second, and then it eats the Thunder Shock right afterwards.
The two trainers call out their next command at the exact same time.
"Use Ominous Wind!" Chris commands, as Asimov blasts a gust of repulsive wind right at Duskull.
"Use Shadow Sneak!" At Fantina's command, Duskull extends its shadow behind Asimov, and hits it hard. Duskull gets a good shot in, but cannot withstand Asimov's brutal attack. Right after that however, Asimov has very bad luck, taking burn damage, as well as the Future Sight attack. Asimov goes down right after Duskull. Both Chris and Fantina gasp, as they each recall their fallen Pokémon. "You are a special one, monsieur Chris Harper."
Chris tilts his head up, and smiles. "Thank you. Lets keep this going." Chris and Fantina activate their next Poké Balls, and then throw out their next Pokémon. Fantina throws out a Haunter, whilst Chris responds with his Luxio. Chris nods his head, then decides to try for paralysis. "Skarr, use Spark!" Chris's Luxio's body flows with electricity as he runs at full speed right at Haunter.
"Haunter, use Shadow Claw!" Haunter flies right back at Skarr, and their attacks collide head on. They each go teetering back, and prepare for their next commands.
"Skarr, use Bite!" Chris changes tactics, as Skarr's attack didn't afflict paralysis on Haunter.
He did not however, expect Fantina's next move. "Haunter, use Sucker Punch!" Seemingly teleporting right in Skarr's face, Fantina's Haunter punches Skarr hard before he can bite it. With its teeth right on Haunter, Fantina chooses her next move wisely. "Haunter, Confuse Ray!" A sinister ray floats around Skarr's head, and triggers confusion in the Spark Pokémon. Skarr releases Haunter, and starts to bash its own head into the battlefield.
"Damn!" Chris reactivates his Luxio's Poké Ball, and recalls him inside. He then activates his third Poké Ball, and throws it. "Bronzor, take the field!" The blue steel circular Pokémon emerges from the flash of light, and opens its eyes to stare Haunter down.
"Haunter, use Shadow Claw!" Fantina calls out. Haunter was quickly on Bronzor, hitting it for a critical strike. Bronzor is put in a lot of pain, but was ready for its next move.
"Bronzor, Extrasensory!" Everyone in the room could hear the attack coming, but could not see the odd power that nailed Haunter. Haunter couldn't take the pain, and was down and out.
As Fantina activates one last Poké Ball, and before throwing it, says "Oh, heavens. What is this? Is this my final Pokémon?" She throws the Poké Ball, and out pops a Mismagius. "Mismagius, use Confuse Ray!" A sinister ray flies fast at Bronzor, surrounding it until it triggers confusion in the Bronze Pokémon.
Not wanting to switch out at that moment, Chris decides to take a chance. "Bronzor, Extrasensory!" Bronzor's voice is strained as it just manages to launch the unseeable attack. Mismagius does get hit, but certainly doesn't show it. Even so, Bronzor then slams itself down to the floor because of its confusion.
Chris sees Fantina crack a smile, and she issues Bronzor's finishing command. "Mismagius, Shadow Ball!" Mismagius produces a shadowy blob, and hurls it right at Bronzor. Bronzor cannot take the pain, and it falls to the ground.
Chris sighs, then recalls his Bronzor. He takes a deep breath, and then launches his last Poké Ball. "Skarr, it's up to you!" His Luxio returns to the battle, cured from confusion the second it returned within its ball. "Use Spark!" Chris was going for paralysis again.
"Mismagius, Confuse Ray." Mismagius fires of its sinister rays, which hit Skarr. And despite the confusion once again being inflicted on the Spark Pokémon, Skarr presses on to nail Mismagius. That's when Fantina's confidence is shaken. The Spark attack clearly has paralyzed Mismagius.
Chris can't let himself smile at this development, as he knows he can't recall Skarr at this point. "Skarr, use Spark, one more time!" Skarr starts to charge up electrical energy, and then turns it all on himself.
Fantina starts seeming as though she's regaining her confidence, as she issues her next command. "Mismagius, use Magical Leaf!" Before Mismagius can prepare its attack, a jolt of electricity stops it from moving.
Suddenly, without being asked to, Skarr slams its head onto the ground, then shakes off the stars he's seeing. He then lets out a loud roar that draws the attention of everyone in the room, as he regains full control. Chris now cracks a smile, as he knows Skarr is ready. "Skarr, use Bite!" Skarr goes full speed at Mismagius, who still cannot move. Skarr bites on to Mismagius, and takes massive damage. It stays in the air, and seems to overcome paralysis when Fantina issues her next command.
"Mismagius, Psybeam!" Mismagius launches a peculiar ray of psychic energy at Skarr, who goes flying back.
Before Skarr's feet even touch the ground, Chris issues the final attack order. "Skarr, finish it with Spark!" The electrical energy flares up brilliantly, and Skarr runs faster than he and Chris knew he could right at Mismagius. Pushing through his own immense pain, Skarr runs right at Mismagius to slam it for a hard shot that takes it down. Mismagius teeters out of control, and rolls to a stop at Fantina's feet. Skarr stands up tall, fighitng to stay conscious in its pain. Enough time passed the battle wasn't declared a draw.
Fantina smiles, and recalls her Mismagius. "You are so fantastically strong. I know now why I have lost."
Chris smiles as well, then walks up next to Skarr. The battle is over, and Skarr can no longer stay on his feet. Skarr was out, but it didn't change the result. Still, Chris kneeled down next to his Luxio, and comforts it. "That was tremendous Skarr." He confirms to his first electric-type Pokémon as he reactivated his Poké Ball. Chris recalls Skarr, and stands back up to greet Fantina, who is carrying a tray with the City's Gym Badge on it.
"I am dumbfounded!" Fantina exclaims. "So very, very strong! You, your Pokémon, so strong! Your power is admirable! I shall honor it with this Gym Badge!" On the tray, Chris takes the Relic Badge between his fingers, and bows to Fantina. She observes Chris opening his badge case, and placing the Relic Badge in its place on the case. "Three Gym Badges... but you must not forget this: There are many other Trainers. Strong Trainers, too. There are many more in Sinnoh. Have patience! You must become stronger, one at a time."
Chris smiles, then nods to her. "Thank you, Fantina!"
One hour later...
When Chris took his Pokémon over to the Center, he sat at a table to clean off his other two badges while waiting for them to be treated. As he sat at a table, Marshtomp played with the baby Togepi to make sure he stayed nice and happy. Once the badges were nice and shiny, Chris closed his carrying case, and smiled at Hawke taking care of the little one.
Once Chris was given back his fully healed team, he recalled Hawke back into his ball, and set Togepi comfortably into the basket between his handle bars. Chris fired up his Harley, and rode on over towards the east exit of Hearthome City, with the intention on getting a motel room in Solaceon Town. Only to find Barry cutting him off on a new ATV. Luckily for Chris, he was not driving fast at all. "Fuck sake's, Barry!"
Barry seemingly doesn't notice just how bad of an incident he nearly caused, as he hasn't even looked at Togepi sitting in the basket on his bike. Barry giggles like a school girl. "Kept me waiting again, Chris!" He starts, as he pulls a Poké Ball off his belt. "Let's see how much tougher you and I have gotten, right here and now!" Chris doesn't say a word, sneering at Barry as he shakes his head. "Hey, you're a Trainer now. You're expected to be ready for a battle. No whining! No waiting! Let's get this show started!" Without even waiting for Chris, Barry throws out his Staravia. Chris decided that there'd be time to yell at Barry after he whips his ass. Chris activates his own Poké Ball, and without saying a word, throws out his Luxio. "Staravia, Quick Attack!" Barry's Staravia picks up immense speed, and hits Skarr.
"Spark!" Electrical energy surges around Skarr's body, as he rushes forth to slam into Staravia. The power is far too much, and Staravia goes down hard.
"Geez Chris!" Barry activates his second Poké Ball "Is there some kind of issue?" Barry doesn't give Chris a chance to answer, as he activates another Poké Ball, throwing out a Pokémon he didn't have in their first battle: Roselia. Chris responded by recalling Skarr, and throwing out his own Staravia.
"Wing Attack!" Chris shouts, as Ikaros charges down and slams its wings into Roselia. The little grass/poison-type must be a very recent addition to Barry's team, as it cannot withstand the damage dealt. Roselia falls to the ground, and cannot continue.
"Chris, what is this?" Barry recalls his Roselia, and then activates his Prinplup's Poké Ball. "Prinplup, lets turn this around!" The adolescent penguin Pokémon emerged to stare down Staravia.
The stare down didn't last long at all, as Chris recalls Staravia to throw out his Leafeon. "Zyra, Razor Leaf!" Chris's Leafeon summons forth sharp-edged leaves, and launches them to slash Prinplup. Of course, Barry's Prinplup was tough enough to take shots.
"Dammit!" Barry exclaims, before finally managing to get a command off. "Prinplup, use Peck!" The Flying-type move does great damage to Chris's Grass-type Pokémon.
Chris shakes his head, as he knows it's time to finish this. "Zyra, Razor Leaf!" Zyra fires off leaves once again, and shoots Prinplup down hard. Barry's last Pokémon was finished, and Chris dominated the battle for victory.
"Chris, what just happened?!"
"BARRY!" Chris yells out, still frustrated with how catastrophic Barry's actions could've been. "Do you not realize that I have a passenger?" Barry then pauses, and finally notices the little Togepi in the basket between Chris's handlebars.
"Oh, fuck." Barry says, guilt instantly painting his face.
Chris suddenly fires his Harley back up. "You need to learn how to slow the hell down, or your gonna end up getting someone seriously hurt." Chris recalls his Leafeon, then rides right past Barry.
