This is Part III of the Veterans Day Special. Last time, The battle with Darkblood began, and for a moment, just a brief moment, Blaze's plan worked, and they were able to pull Dragnarok out of him for a moment. And all he could say was to "Find Gray Son". But before Blaze could find out what that meant, Darkblood took back over. And just to make matters worse, Superman showed up, and not too long after him, Doctor Fate entered the scene. So, things are about to go completely wrong. But now badly? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes just as we left it in Aquaman's throne room, with Superman about to face Darkblood and Doctor Fate)
Superman: I wouldn't ordinarily do this, but I'm feeling nostalgic today. So I'm giving you all a chance to back off. (As his eyes glow red with heat vision) Don't waste it.
Darkblood: You forget Superman. My new minion is purely composed of one of your greatest weaknesses.
Doctor Fate: Even you can't best my magic, Kryptonian.
Belial Aether: (As the big guns stare each other down) Seems like this is our cue to get out of here, Blaze.
Blaze: (Realizing how disastrous fighting these three would be) We've gotten closer to rescuing Drago from this than we were before. I say we don't take our chances on an Armageddon scenario.
Spyro: Agreed. Let's get out of here.
(With that, Blaze and her team try to sneak out the way they came in, only to be stopped at the exit by a sword thrown into the door by Wonder Woman)
Wonder Woman: Kal may be busy with your boyfriend, but that doesn't mean you're free from me.
Cynder: You want a rematch, Wonder Witch? Bring it on. I'll kick your tail just like I did on Themyscira.
Wonder Woman: You will find I am not so easy to defeat a second time.
Blaze: Except this time, she's not alone.
(And sure enough, Blaze and Spyro flank Cynder, and Belial Aether stands in behind them, prepared to brawl)
Wonder Woman: Army or not, your odds have not improved.
Cynder: We'll see about that.
Blaze: (Under her breath) So much for getting out of here.
(And with that, the battles begin. Darkblood and Doctor Fate charge Superman, while Wonder Woman rushes Blaze and company. Cynder gets an early edge in over Wonder Woman by knocking her shield away, which Blaze takes up to tackle Wonder Woman from behind)
Blaze: (Feeling the weight of the shield) I've been looking for a new shield for a while actually. I think I'll keep this one, it's perfectly weighted for me.
Wonder Woman: Only a true Amazon can wield my arsenal.
Cynder: Then why are you still using it?
(Clearly Wonder Woman doesn't take too kindly to that insinuation as she grabs Cynder by the throat, attempting to crush it, but Spyro thankfully comes to her rescue, headbutting her to the ground)
Spyro: Get the hell away from my wife!
Wonder Woman: (Spitting out blood) Who would guess someone as powerful as you would bother protecting this...
(Before she can finish that response, Belial Aether uses his abilities to bind her mouth and the rest of her in bands of darkness)
Belial Aether: And that's enough out of you. There's probably children listening right now.
Blaze: Thanks, Belial. One can only stand to listen to her for so long.
Belial Aether: We should probably take this opportunity to get out of here.
(While the four of them sneak out, we focus back in on the duel of darkness. Darkblood has taken the majority fight to Superman, and the two seem evenly matched.)
Superman: You've gotten better since the last time I fought you, Dragnarok.
(Darkblood is enraged at being compared to Dragnarok yet again, and throws Superman across the room, with Doctor Fate casting a spell to hold him down)
Darkblood: I am nothing like that weakling. Dragnarok is dead, Darkblood remains. However, I can't say the same for you. (Summons Dark Aether) Time to render Supergirl an endling.
(Before Darkblood can vaporize Superman, Aquaman throws a his trident at Darkblood. But his aim is off from his reanimated hand, as it just glances off Darkblood's head)
Aquaman: I'm the one you came here for. Leave them out of this.
Darkblood: (Picks up Aquaman's trident) You just ended yourself, Arthur Curry.
(With that, Darkblood channels Dark Aether into Aquaman's trident, corrupting it to resemble the Black Trident from the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer, and fires a shot straight into Aquaman, the dark energies stopping his heart almost instantly, rendering him deceased)
Darkblood: Sic Semper Tyrannis. (Looks at the Black Trident in his hand) You know? I think I'll keep this. Only fitting my greatest trophy be his weapon.
Superman: Aquaman!
Darkblood: Oh please. It's not like you cared about him anyways. (To Doctor Fate) Come, our mission is accomplished.
Doctor Fate: Yes, Lord Darkblood.
Darkblood: (Thinks about something) Actually, grab the fish king's corpse. I've got an idea for that.
(Slightly confused, but not about to disobey his master's orders, Doctor Fate grabs Aquaman's corpse as the two leave, leaving Superman and Wonder Woman to wonder what the heck just happened as our scene ends for today)
This concludes Part III of the Veterans Day Special. For the Finale, head on over to Ashes of Midnight. Yes, I know this was a controversial move, killing off Aquaman. But to be honest, I had no real need for him to continue in the story. And spoilers ahead, he's not the only member of the Regime who won't make it out. And for those who think I know I'm talking about, they're not the only one. Yes, I know defeating Brainiac in the game's story requires his trident. But that's the thing, the trident still exists, and Darkblood is holding onto it. Nobody said anything about Aquaman being necessary. I haven't worked out how Brainiac will be bested yet, but should I still use Aquaman's trident, they'll just need to recover it from Darkblood. So, what devilish purpose does Darkblood have for Aquaman's corpse? Tune in next time to find out. Same time... same channel!
