Element of Surprise

Part 3: Babysitting

Jax and Jaylyn woke up early. Their grandfather, Bruce Wayne came into the sunroom and changed both children then placed then down on the floor to play.

At that moment, Alfred brought in Haley while Sasha was carrying Caine and Caleb.

"I'm glad you let them sleep in the sunroom so Jason and I could get a little shuteye. I know we should move them to the nursery, but I don't think Jason is ready to move them, yet."

"It's quite all right Ms. Sasha," Alfred replied. "I thank you for helping with young Master Caine and Caleb and Miss Haley this morning. Master Richard and Mister Timothy are still sleeping in the cave, and I did not wish to disturb them."

"That's understandable," Sasha replied. "Jason told me what happened last night. Finding Tim buried alive? That must have been some horrendous experience."

"Yes," Alfred replied. "I cannot imagine what that must have felt like."

"None of us can." Bruce said. "I'll have my breakfast in here. Tim and Samantha should be here soon to feed Caine and Caleb their breakfast. They are growing so big. They are almost as big as Jax and Jayly."

"It's got to be their Atlantean blood," Sasha pointed out. "Children must grow fast at that age to learn to survive the harsh conditions in the ocean. I'll help you with breakfast, Alfred. I need to feed Jax and Jaylyn as well."

"Master Virgil indicated he would be baking this morning, but I haven't seen him, yet."

"I think he's baking in the carriage house."

"That young man keeps to himself," Alfred pointed out. "Mr. Timothy's birthday is coming up soon. We should ask him to bake a special cake for him."

"That's an excellent idea," Bruce said. "I'll watch my grandchildren. I don't get to see them that often."

"Thank you," Sasha stated.

"I'll get your breakfast, Master Bruce," Alfred said, and he and Sasha left the six of them in the sunroom. 'One adult with five children, I hope Master Bruce can handle them,' Alfred thought to himself amused.

Bruce opened his tablet to work on a contract for Wayne Enterprise. It was a lot easier to keep an eye on all five grandchildren than hiding behind a newspaper.

Bruce couldn't believe that three of his sons had children. He could understand Dick having a child, he was an adult, but Jason and Tim really should have waited. It was too late to say anything. He didn't want to admit he was starting to get used to having them around. Every now and then Bruce peeked at the five babies. They hadn't moved much since they were placed on the floor together. In fact, they were all lying on their stomachs facing inward, their small hands touching each other and babbling. It was cute. Bruce wondered if the five of them were talking to each other through their minds. Was that possible? Could they have a link like he had with his sons?

'I wonder what they're saying,' Bruce thought.

Bruce went back to reading on his tablet.
