Next morning Walter woke up as usual around 6.00am . But something was wrong , before he even opened his eyes , the weight that he usually felt on his chest was not there and the smell from Paige's hair was not under his nose , which was something he really enjoyed to smell first thing in a morning . He put his left hand out and all he felt , nothing but a cold sheet .
He opened his eyes and looked across at Megan's cot , were she was still asleep , it was then he heard Paige's hairdryer start up . It was then he remembered the previous day , before Dr Thomas allowed him to leave the hospital , he gave him some instructions . First he could not under any circumstances drive for at least seven days , the bandages on his head and hand must be kept dry .
Following a conversation with Richard Eli , who had phoned just after Paige had spoken to him ,an appointment had been made , with a specialist in burns and plastic surgery , for Wednesday . Richard had explained just how importent Walter's hands were to his work .
So it would seem Paige had got up early to get ready , so that she could help him get ready . As he lay there , he began to think about how much he might enjoy the help Paige could give him . He was bought out of his dream world , by the bathroom door opening .
He rolled over and watched Paige walk out , hair bouncing from her shoulder and dressed in a pair of tight fitting jeans and a blue short sleeve sweater .
" Morning chroi daor . " She said to Walter as she saw he was awake .
A big smile came on Walter's face . " You remembered that from yesterday . "
Paige approached Walter and said . " Well i took that as my first lesson in Gaelic . " She moved closer and bent over and planted a kiss on his lips .
Walter returned the kiss , but Paige pulled back . " Sorry but we do not have time this morning , i will need to help you get ready as well as Megan , then get breakfast . Which is why i am up so early . You are coming with me today , but you will be spending the day on the sofa . "
Walter looked at her , his face full of love for her . " Ok , do i get a bed bath ? " He asked with a twinkle in his eye .
Paige smiled at him . " Not quite , i will put a plastic bag round your hand and a shower cap on your head so you can shower . You can use your good hand and the long handled bath brush to wash yourself . I will help you dry and get dressed . I will stay in the bathroom while you shower and i can bathe Megan at the same time . "
Walter gave her a big smile . " I hope i don't shock Megan to much . "
" Well it is a good job the shower screen is obscure glass . " Paige told him an even bigger smile on her face .
She then walked over to Megan , who had just woken up , seeing Paige looking at her over her cot , she made a fist and put it to her mouth . " Ok young lady lets get you fed and washed . " Paige said a smile on her face .
Megan gave a little giggle and put her arms out .
Walter got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom , it was just as Paige picked Megan up , she saw Walter and wriggled in Paige's arms , Da, Da .
" Could you hold your daughter , while i get your plastic bag and shower cap . " Paige asked Walter .
Walter gently removed Megan from Paige's arms . Megan snuggled up close to his naked chest and gave a sigh of contentment , causing both Paige and Walter to break out into laughter .
" Don't get to comfortable young lady , we have to get ready to go to daddy's house after dropping Ralph off at school . "
A smile came on Megan's face as she uttered Ral, Ral.
With her ability to organize things , everyone was in Paige's car by 8.00am. Paige had even managed to make sandwiches for lunch . After dropping Ralph off at school , they made their way to Walter's house .
Ten minutes after they arrived two vans pulled up on the drive . Sue and Kat got out of the van , two girls about the same age as Kat got out of the other van . Sue knocked on the door and it was opened by Paige .
" Good morning Paige , let me introduce you to Penelope , but likes to be called Penny , my other daughter and this is my niece Stephine , who likes to be called Steph . To be honest i don't know why we bother giving them names , we might as well wait until they are about five years old and ask them what they want to be called . " Sue said a big smile on her face .
" Good morning everyone , please come in . " A smiling Paige told them .
By now Walter had come to the door , with Megan in his arms .
Sue looked shocked as she saw Walter . " My god Walter , what happened to you ? " .
Walter smiled . " Just a small incident with an electric plug and socket . "
" Ok, we will fetch our stuff out of the vans and take it upstairs . I will be working on the nursery , Kat and Penny on the room with a wall safe and Steph is going to be working on the room Mark removed the false wall , to begin preparing it for decorating . The other two members of the team are on another job , which with luck should be finished by lunchtime Wednesday and will be joinig us then . " Sue explained .
Paige looked at her and smiled . " Ok just go ahead , you will find us in the livng area if you need us . "
Sue and her team began to fetch their materials from the van .
Walter and Paige returned to the living area , Paige had originally decided to finish cleaning her movie room items . But in the end just cuddled up to Walter and Megan , A big smile on her face .
At 2.30pm. Paige left Walter and Megan to fetch Ralph from school .
When she got back she was surprised to see Sam's Fiat parked on the road outside the house , she pulled up on the drive , both of them went into the house .
Walter and Sam were in the living room looking at some diagrams .
" Hello Sam good to see you again , but is everything alright ? " Paige asked a little worried .
Sam smiled as she answered . " Hi, yes actually everything is good , Richard told me if i did not have a lot of work on , i could come over and see you both about the exit sign . "
Paige was surprised at the answer . What have you found out ? "
Sam showed her the diagrams . " Well Richard called me to his office and asked me what had happened , i explained everything and told him i had the sign in my car so i could work on it during my lunch break . He told me as long as it would not interfer with any work i was doing at the moment , to take the sign into our workshop to see if i can fix it . I got James to help me get it out of the car and between us we carried into the workshop. I spent the rest of the morning working on it , these diagrams are to show what needs replacing or repairing . "
By now Ralph was looking over the diagrams . " That looks like a big job . "
" I think it looks worse than it actually is, unfortunatly when the boss plugged it in , it completly burnt the transformer out , plus a lot of the wiring is the old fashioned material covered wire so all of it will need to be replaced . I am sure i can pick up a transformer that i can adapt . So i thought i should check with both of you what you want to limit your spending to . "
Paige looked at Walter with a cute smile on her face .
Walter looked at Sam . " Do what you have to do . "
" Ok boss , i will go back to the office and see what i can do . " Sam told him .
" Thank you Sam . " Walter and Paige said together .
" It is my pleasure , we are a little quiet at the moment , now we have carried out the testing on the filter and hoist , but no doubt as soon as the boss is back we will be busy again . "
At that she said her goodbyes and Paige walked with her to the door .
Wednesday morning Paige took Walter to the hospital for his appointment with the burns and plastic surgeon . A Mr Cromer , the appointment went well , he was pleased the way the burn looked , saying it was only a surface burn and there did not seem to be any permanent damage . Walter had been told he needed to keep the area dry and the dressing needed to be changed at least every three days . Paige had agreed to make sure that was done , she had a certain amount of training dressing wounds , while working with Scorpion , so she was certain she could manage that task .
The doctor agreed , but wanted to see Walter the following week . Before they left the doctor had a nurse change the dressing on Walter's hand and head . The nurse allowed Paige to watch , Paige was holding Megan who pulled a face when the bandages were removed and uttered Da, Da . and then made a sound that sounded like a noise of disgust .
By the time they left the hospital , it was time to fetch Ralph , due to the distance from the hospital to the school . However Megan was showing the sign she was hungry . So before leaving the hospital Paige went into one side of the baby changing room and slipped the bolt across the door and gave her a quick feed , which satisfied Megan , but she then needed to change her . By the time they had they came out to Walter , it was going to mean they would be late picking Ralph up . Walter rang the school to arrange for Ralph to wait until they got there . They were actually only ten minutes late to pick him up .
Once they got back from the school there was another van parked on the front , " That must be the other to members of Sue's team . " Paige said .
" Yes , she did say they would be here after lunch , i suggest we leave them alone , Sue can introduce us when they come down to say goodnight . " Walter suggested .
" That is ok with me . " Paige replied .
At 5.00pm Sue came to find them to say goodnight and bought two new people with her . "Paige , Walter . Ralph and the little Megan ." This is my sister Pauline and her daughter Ann , they make up the rest of our team . " Walter ,Paige and Ralph all greeted them Megan just gave a giggle as she saw the two new people .
The rest of the week passed quickly by Friday , Sue and the team had finished all the decorating in the house in the house . Paige got very little work done as she was more than content to sit by Walter and Megan on the sofa .
They had made a decision that they would get rid of all the furniture including the bed from Megan's Bedroom /nursery and buy all new to match up to the decorating that had been done upstairs . They would also buy a new matress for bed the in their room . The guest room would be left the same . "
Ralph wanted a single bed , and the dresser and pink chair removed from his room and wanted a desk and chair to replace them , as he wanted somewere to do his homework and research .
Once Sue and her team had completed the decorating , Sue took the family upstairs for their first look at the work . First she showed them Ralph's room , decorated in the colours Ralph had chosen . A dark blue ceiling , Ralph explained he wanted to plot different stars on it using white paint . The other three walls he had requested a pale blue on three walls and a feature wall of mid-blue .
Page's face face was one of surprise , but Walter put his hand on her arm ,then whispered "Remember , we promised he could chooose is own colours . "
Paige turned to Walter and smiled . " Thank you . "
Next Sue showed them the spare room , as requested it was a white ceiling and woodwork with magnolia walls . Practical and easy maintenance .
Sue then led them to the master bedroom , again a white ceiling and woodwork . The feature wall had been painted in a chocolate brown , the other three walls a beige , giving a warm feeling and looking a little special . This time a big smile came to Paige's face ." Just what i imagined . "
In all three rooms the furniture had been moved back into place . Megan had looked around all the three rooms pointing at the new colours . In Ralph's room she had looked at the ceiling and giggled .
Sue had a smile on her face as she led them to the room adapted for Megan . " I have spent all week working on this room , so i hope you like it . "
Sue led them in , Paige's mouth dropped as she saw the room , what will become Megan's bedroom . The wall as you walked in had been painted pink , not one shade but six shades which were gently blended into one another , so there was no sraight lines between the different shades of pink . The other three walls were a shade of pink like one of the shades on the main wall . On the wall that was now seperating the nursrey from the bedroom , next to the window ,Sue had painted two faries looking into into the window as if protecting Megan . On the other large wall Sue had also painted Trees , rabbits ,mushrooms and more faries .
Sue turned to Paige . " I hope you do not mind but i love painting pictures in my spare time , so i thought the walls looked to sparce in one colour so i wanted to brighten it up . "
Megan pointed at the pictures and began to giggle and reached out with her hand .
" Well it would appear the room's tenant is very pleased and thank you ,you have gone way above what we expected . " Paige told her .
Sue smiled back at her . " It was my pleasure . Would you like to see the nursey area ? "
Paige just nodded .
Sue opened the door , Paige entered followed by Walter holding Megan in his arms . Once again Paige's mouth dropped .
This time the ceiling was painted a pale blue , sponge painted white fluffy clouds with three angels peeping over the side of them . The walls were painted in a pale pink , except the bottom half of the short wall which was painted in blackboard black paint .
Paige looked at it , Sue saw the look and told her that she understood this would be made into a play area and toy store once Megan was moved out into the main bedroom . She thought she could use it as to draw or write on . "What a nice thing to do . Thank you . "
Walter asked if they wanted paying before they left or did they work a system like Mark .
Sue smiled " No we prefer to be paid before we leave and give you a receipt . "
Paige smiled . " Well you have done a good job , is a cheque acceptable ? "
" Of course . " Sue told her .
Walter went to get his cheque book . While is was away , Sue told Paige if they found anything wrong once they had left and they had the time to look it all over more carefully , just ring to ring her and she would come back and put it right .
Walter came back with his cheque book . " Can you write the cheque out for me , the bandages are a bit of a problem . Oh add a 10% tip onto the amount . "
" Of course Walter , can you sign it alright ? "
Walter smiled at her . " Yes just about . "
Sue broke into the conversation . " There is no need to add a 10% tip . "
Walter looked at her and smiled . " The extra work you have put into Megan's room is worth the tip . "
" Then thank you . " Sue told him .
Sue and the rest of the team all said their goodbyes .
Saturday morning all four members of the new family were sitting on the sofa , waiting for the video call from Ireland to come through . Megan was once again happy being in Walter's arms , still giggerling and pointing at Walter's bandages .
Paige's computer bleeped to say there was a video call , Paige accepted the call and was greeted with the faces of Louise and Sean . Megan immediatly uttered Gma, Gpa .
At that moment Louise saw Walter's bandages . " Oh sweet Jesus , what have you been up to Walter ? " She asked in a shocked voice .
Paige was the one to answer . " Last Sunday he was messing around with an item for the movie theater and he plugged it in without checking the wiring . As soon as he switched it on the was a blue flash and a bang and it sent Walter across the garage floor and he banged his head on the concrete floor . He was rushed to hospital and was unconcious for about five hours . He pressured the doctor to let him come home the same night , but he as not been allowed to drive for seven days and if he as any problems he is to return to the hospital immediatly . "
" Oh my poor boy . " Louise said .
" I have been hurt a lot more than this and i am still here . " Walter told Louise .
Sean gave him a serious look . " I would have thought you would have had more sense than to do somethink like that . "
Walter gave him a sheepish smile . " I wanted to surprise Paige and got over confident , but i promise i won't do that again , i will get Sam to check all the electric items we bought from the auction . "
" Who is Sam ? " Louise asked . " Oh she is a member of my team at work . "
" A woman doing electric work ? " Sean asked in surprise .
" Why not , she is a lot like Happy who worked with us at Scorpion . She is also rewiring our computer room and movie theater . But my little accident last Sunday as put the work back . But at least all the decorating as been finished . So once we can get some new furniture for Ralph and Megan , we can start to move in . " Walter explained .
Louise still looked a little surprised . " I did not realize you were having any work done "
Paige looked at her with a smile on her face . " Well originaly we were only going to have our bedroom repainted , but we got a good price for all bedrooms and we are really pleased with the results . The lady in charge took on the decorating the bedroom /nursrey for Megan , some of the artwork she as done are really good . She as handpainted in the nursery section , on the pale blue ceiling white clouds with three angels looking over the deges of them , as if they will be watching over Megan while she sleeps .
The bedroom as been seperated from the nursery by a false wall , the builder , Sue's husband , as fitted a window into it , Sue as then painted a fairy each side of it , again as if they are keeping an eye on Megan . She as also painted trees fairies and mushrooms on the other walls , except for a feature wall in multi shades of pink and blended together , it looks unbelievable . "
They spoke together until about 10.30am. when Paige signed off and closed the connection . They decided after a cup of coffee and Paige had changed Megan's diaper , to go check out some new furniture .
