Chapter 3

"I've got a hit", Brainy announces, "The group of aliens have officially left Earth's atmosphere".

"Well done", J'onn praises, "Let's keep eyes on them as closely as possible. Have you notified Alex?".

"I called and left messages", Brainy says, "but she's not responding".

"Perhaps she's finally getting some rest", J'onn says.

Oblivious to her ringing phone and the news waiting on the other end of the call, Alex planted herself on the counter beside the stove and placed herself in charge of the pancake batter.

"You have to give me the batter so I can fix the pancakes", Sam says with mock sternness.

"There aren't enough chocolate chips in it", Alex says, dumping another handful into the bowl.

Sam looks down into the bowl and back up to Alex, "Your pancakes are going to be all chocolate if you add any more". Alex pouts at this, refusing to let go of the bowl. "You're acting like Kara right now", Sam says, laughing at Alex's petulant behavior.

When Alex still doesn't relent, Sam takes drastic measures and steps between Alex's knees, slowly trailing her hands up Alex's thighs and using her height to lean over the bowl until she can kiss Alex's neck. Alex's grip starts to give as her head drops back and she lets out a small moan as Sam moves across her jaw until she's kissing right below Alex's ear.

"Just give me the bowl", Sam says, sensually as she bites at Alex's earlobe, causing the woman to fully let go in an effort to hold Sam close.

Unfortunately for the redhead, Sam is much quicker and grabs the bowl and steps out of Alex's grasp before she can get her.

"Not fair", Alex huffs.

Sam leans over, holding the bowl away on her other side, to give Alex a placating kiss, "All's fair in love and pancakes".

Alex can't help but laugh and gives in, sliding off the counter to wrap her arms around Sam's waist to get a little payback and later when Ruby asks why some of the pancakes are burned, both women blush into their coffee but don't respond.

Lena wakes first the next morning, the scratchiness of Kara's loose bandage bothering her. She rewraps the arm, making a mental note to take a look at it later and is easily relaxed back into sleep as she cuddles back into the warmth of Kara's bare front against her own.

A little while later, Lena is woken by Kara fidgeting underneath her in the throes of another dream. Lena stays still, rubbing soothing circles until Kara calms and Lena hopes it wasn't a bad one and that she will have forgotten the dream by the time she wakes. She carefully slides out of bed, leaving her pillow in Kara's arms and a kiss on her forehead before throwing on a hoodie and shorts.

She is grateful for Kara's power loss as she is able to make a full breakfast and carry it into the bedroom before Kara wakes. She sets the tray on the nightstand and grabs a hoodie for Kara before sliding back into bed next to her.

"Five minutes", Kara grumbles, burying her face into the nearest object which is Lena's side.

"Your pancakes and bacon will get cold if you wait five minutes", Lena teases.

A blue eye opens quickly before squinting in the sudden bright light. "Chocolate chip?", Kara asks, waiting for confirmation before moving from her comfortable position.

"Of course", Lena says, rubbing her hand across Kara's bare shoulders, the other still holding out the hoodie.

Kara sits up quickly, taking the hoodie and sliding it on, getting her head stuck in the process, pulling a small laugh out of both women. When she finally frees herself, she has a cheesy grin and reaches out for the food.

Lena kisses her before turning and handing over the tray and settling it on Kara's outstretched legs.

"You want some?", Kara says, mouth already full of pancake, pointing to the stack.

"I had some while I cooked", Lena says, with a smile, "I'm going to grab some bandages so I can rewrap your arm, ok?".

Kara nods as she continues to eat, and Lena slides off the bed headed for the bathroom to grab bandages and tape.

After hours of trying to entertain Kara while keeping up with L-Corp and the foundations, most urgent emails, Lena has a pounding headache and way too much to do.

"Ok look", Lena says as she stops typing to clap her hands together interrupting Kara's ramble, "I love you and I understand you're bored, and I know it sucks but I need like an hour. I'm going to go in the office, I'll be right down the hall, and you can paint or read or watch TV, whatever so I can get this stuff done and we can spend tonight doing whatever you want. Ok?". Kara looks sad at the thought that she's bothering Lena and after seeing her face fall the brunette quickly puts her laptop to the side and pulls Kara close. "I'm sorry. I hate that I can't just sit here with you, but I have to get some of this done. An hour. Max. I promise", she says, kissing Kara's head in what she hopes is a soothing and reassuring gesture.

Kara nods against Lena's sternum, taking comfort in the embrace before pulling back. "Go. Get to work. I'll find something to keep myself busy", Kara assures her, standing and holding out a hand to help Lena up.

"Ok", Lena nods, grabbing her laptop and kissing Kara before making her way to her home office.

Kara watches her walk away until she's around the corner before flopping down on the couch. She never has downtime and has no idea what to do. Normally she'd patrol or hang out at the DEO, eat lunch with Lena, work on her next article but with the world having to think Supergirl, and therefore Kara Danvers, is dead until the group of aliens leave, she has nothing to do except wander in the huge open space of the penthouse. She gets up and heads to the shelf where Lena keeps her favorite books. The worn covers and well broken in spines prove even though Lena is immensely careful with her books, never folding them over or dog-earring pages, these have been read over and over again, and loved each and every time. She carefully removes one of her own favorites since coming to Earth and tries to lose herself in the book but just can't get comfortable. She tries laying on the couch, piles pillows all around her, tries multiple different blankets, even sitting upside down with her head hanging off, but nothing works.

She thinks about Lena's other suggestions and tries painting. She heads down the hallway to the closet where she's stored her easel, some canvas, and her paint and carries them all carefully out onto the balcony. She lays out some plastic and sets everything up, getting through the rough sketch and first layer of the skyline from the balcony before getting antsy again. Her arm hurts and she leaves the stuff set up, closing her paints, and heads inside to wash the brushes.

She uses the bathroom just off the kitchen hoping she won't disrupt Lena and as she heads back through to put the brushes up, she realizes she's hungry so she starts to scour through the cabinets. There aren't many quick snacks and those that are stocked in their massive pantry, Kara isn't in the mood for, but she does see pre-made pie crusts, including an Oreo one, and chocolate pudding so she tries to make a chocolate dream whip pie, even adding chocolate chips because why not.

Fortunately, she can't burn anything with this pie, but something still doesn't taste right, even for her so she finds the flour and tries to make the pastries Lena loves since she can't fly to Paris to get them for her. She figures out pretty quickly that won't work either when she pulls a croissant shaped black charred brick from the oven. "At least I didn't set off the fire alarm this time", she mumbles to herself as she drops the pan and failed pastry into the sink. She slowly turns around taking in the mess she's made and resolves herself to clean it up when there is a knock on the door. She quickly unties the flour covered apron, dropping it into the sink before rushing to open the door.

She freezes in shock as she takes in Eliza standing there.

"Mom", she says, throwing her arms around the blonde woman and pulling her inside. "Lena come here", she shouts down the hall turning to close the door before hugging Eliza again.

Lena's eyes are wide as she takes in the sight of Eliza standing in the entryway as she walks forward in a Kara's hoodie, that's too large on her, and Supergirl sweatpants. "Eliza, hi. I'm so sorry the place is a mess and …", Lena starts.

"Relax sweetheart", Eliza says, reaching out to pull Lena into a hug. "Believe me I know. When Kara gets bored, she doesn't do chores to keep busy, she flits from one activity to another whether it be painting, cuddling on the couch with 14 different blankets, or cooking", Eliza says pointing from the half-painted canvas in the corner to the pile of blankets to the flour on the ceiling.

Lena's eyes go wide as she sees the flour in a currently unreachable place and turns to a sheepish Kara. "Kara!", she nearly shouts, "Really? How are we going to clean that?".

Kara shrugs still bashfully looking at the ground.

"Let me see the burn", Eliza says, holding a calm hand out.

Kara pouts but slides her sleeve up revealing a wrapped forearm with loose bandages, that she obviously tried to do herself.

"What?!", Lena shouts again, "Why didn't you tell me?", she asks, calmer as she looks at Kara's reddened arm now that Eliza's unwrapped it.

"You were busy, and I've bothered you enough", Kara says.

Eliza takes this moment to head to grab the first aid kit and allows the couple a minute alone.

"Darling", Lena says, gently caressing Kara's arm, "I'm never too busy for you especially when you've hurt yourself. Ok? I worry about you enough when you have your powers. I can't even explain how I feel when you don't, and now you've got bandages on both arms".

"I know. You were just so worried while I was gone and even when I got back and you're behind on work and stressed about that and it's not good for the baby", Kara starts to ramble.

Lena silences her with a kiss and buries her face in Kara's neck. "Let's just stop worrying about each other so much and maybe let me do the cooking", she teases, kissing Kara's neck.

They end the embrace quickly, startled by Eliza's cough. "You want to do it, or should I?", she asks, holding fresh bandages out to Lena.

"You go ahead", Lena says, "I'm going to see if we have any ingredients left for dinner or if they're all on the ceiling". She pecks Kara on the cheek as she passes on her way to the kitchen.

"How'd you know?", Kara asks as Eliza carefully spreads ointment on her arm before carefully wrapping it.

"No offense but you're a terrible cook normally", Eliza laughs, "add that with your forgetfulness that you're not invincible when you've solar flared. It's a logical conclusion". "Plus, a mother knows", Eliza adds, tucking the end of the bandage and patting Kara's arm. "Now go show your wife that you're ok, apologize, and tell her to calm down. I can take all this to the guest room", Eliza says, turning to pick up her bags that have been left by the door.

"You're staying?", Kara asks, excited.

"I figured it was time for a visit anyway and I know your sister wouldn't appreciate me dropping in on her, but you can tell Lena that you won't even notice I'm here", Eliza says.

"We love having you, Eliza. Anytime, and you know you have a room here", Lena says, coming back, holding out a hand to help with the bags.

"I got this sweetheart", Eliza waves her away, picking up her bags. "You better go stop her before she burns herself again", she says, pointing at Kara who has wandered into the kitchen in search of food.

Lena hurries after her, putting herself between the depowered super and the hot stove, and gently turning her around. Eliza chuckles to herself, happy for her daughter, and heads to put up her stuff.

After a pretty chill day of playing games and watching movies, Alex untangles herself from Sam and stretches. Ruby heads upstairs to work on her project for one of her classes, leaving Alex and Sam alone.

"So, what now?", Alex asks, cracking her back.

Sam looks up from her spot still curled on the couch and shrugs, "I don't know, whatever you want".

"Let's find a good movie", Alex says, reaching into her pocket for her phone to look up a list. "Hey babe. Have you seen my phone?", she asks, looking under pillows and blankets.

"When'd you last have it?", Sam asks, not moving from her comfy position.

Alex thinks, "Actually… I don't know. I don't think I brought it down this morning", she says before taking the stairs two at a time.

"Ah ha", Sam hears Alex's triumphant shout from downstairs and shakes her head, rolling her eyes.

Alex comes back down, dropping herself on the couch next to Sam and leans against her.

"Brainy, Kara, J'onn, Mom", Alex lists off scrolling through the long list of notifications. She puts the phone up to her ear, listening to Brainy's voicemail first. "They're gone", Alex says with a deep sigh as the tension leaks from her shoulders.

Sam wraps an arm around her, kissing the top of her head. "Kara's in the clear. All you're doing is keeping an eye on them now, right?", she asks.

"Yeah", Alex nods, "Brainy has a whole system of satellites thanks to reaching out to some other systems so we should be able to track them pretty far if we relay the signal off them". She scrolls onto the rest of Brainy and J'onn messages, all saying they're in the clear and a stern suggestion from J'onn to take a couple days off. She opens the text thread with her mom. "Mom is in town", she says, scrolling on.

"Eliza?", Sam says, "Where's she staying? We have a guest room".

"Staying with Kara apparently", Alex says, showing Sam the text from Kara, saying Mom's in town with 14 different food emojis, most of them breakfast and dessert. Both women laugh as Alex scrolls on. "And they've invited the three of us for dinner tonight", she says, looking over at Sam who shrugs.

"I could eat, especially your mom's amazing cooking", Sam says.

"Fair point", Alex replies, texting Kara that they'll be there. "I should probably change out of these sweats", she says, standing up again only to be pulled back down on top of Sam.

"We've got thirty minutes before we have to leave and I guarantee that Ruby has her headphones on if you can be quiet", Sam whispers into Alex's ear before kissing her neck.

Alex lets out a small whine as tilts her head giving Sam more room and when they're half an hour late, it's really not Alex's fault.

AN: A short one but I'm going to post chapter 4 Monday and make Monday my posting day from now on
