Chapter 9
With the threat taken care of, Eliza headed back home to Midvale, and everything settled down very quickly for the group.
Kara went back to work, doing an interview with Nia about how Supergirl had to lay low for a little while because of the threats against her and Lena.
Lena went back to L-Corp, although on a modified schedule as morning sickness, while not fun at home, was much worse alone in the en-suite in her office.
Sam was relieved to have some of the workload off even as she tried to take on more since Lena 'should be resting'. That comment to the pregnant woman's face got her the famous Luthor glare, eyebrow and all.
Alex went back to training agents and spending more time in her lab but got to take more time off to spend at home with Sam and Ruby.
Once everyone got back into their rhythm, Kara declared in a group text that it was time to start up bi-weekly game nights.
Nia cheered using more emojis than even Kara had even seen. Brainy literally responded "RSVP: Yes". Alex texted in a thread just between her and Lena "even though you're pregnant you better still have some good scotch ;) Sam says same but with wine".
Kara grinned glad everyone agreed, and they quickly settled for this Friday.
"So how do we want to tell them", Lena asks, curled up against Kara's side on the couch.
"I don't know", Kara says, "You got any ideas?".
"You wanted to do something small, not obvious, and see who realizes first, right?", Lena says.
"Yeah, I think it would be funny", Kara laughs.
"Ok so how?", Lena asks, opening her tablet to a clean drawing page.
"Woah, woah go back", Kara says, reaching over to swipe back a page. "What is this?", she asks, a huge grin on her face when she sees the sketch, the House of El crest with the L-Corp L through it.
"Uh just… just a sketch", Lena says, blushing, trying to move to the next page.
Kara swipes back and says, "Ok this is perfect. I have an idea".
"What?", Lena asks.
"T-shirts with our 'logos' and yours has the combined one over your stomach", Kara says.
Lena grins, "That actually sounds like a good idea".
"It's a great idea!", Kara says.
"I can make a vinyl of this logo and just apply it to one of the extra t-shirts we give out. It'll have the L on the left breast and this one lower. And of course, a Supergirl shirt shouldn't be too hard to find", Lena says, already planning it out.
"And you can do this before Friday?", Kara asks, hoping four days is long enough.
Lena looks away from her tablet just long enough to give Kara a questioning look, "You doubt me?".
"Of… of course not", Kara stutters, trying to recover. "Love you", she says, kissing Lena's cheek.
"Nice save", Lena mutters, "love you too".
Unsurprisingly, Kara has trouble keeping the secret the week as everyone notices she is way too excited for a simple game night, even if it is the first one, they've had in a while.
Alex, Sam, and Ruby are the first to arrive Friday night.
"Hey guys", Kara cheers as she opens the door letting them through.
"Really, Kara?", Alex asks, looking down at her shirt, "you don't get tired of wearing that symbol?".
"Actually, on Krypton the crest is stitched into every piece of clothing so not really", Kara shrugs, "besides its part of the reveal".
Lena comes around the corner then with perfect timing and Sam is the first to notices her shirt. "Oh, that's genius", she says, laughing.
"Thank you", Kara and Lena both respond before turning to each other.
"It was my idea", Kara complains.
"I'm the one that created the logo that gave you the idea", Lena retorts.
"Still my idea", Kara says.
Lena rolls her eyes as Sam interrupts them, Ruby and Alex both failing to hold in their laughter.
"It doesn't matter who gets the credit", Sam says, "Anything else need to be set-up before everyone gets here?".
"Nope", Kara says, popping the p.
"Just waiting on everyone else and the food should be delivered soon", Lena says.
The group settles in the living room with Kara jumping up to answer the door every time she hears the elevator ding, welcoming the rest of the group. No one questions Kara shirt and Lena keeps hers hidden as she sits with a pillow in her lap.
"I think that's everyone", Kara whispers in her ear, covering it with a kiss to Lena's cheek as she settles in beside her.
Lena turns, grinning at Kara, whispering so only she can hear, "start the timer" before addressing the group. "Alright. Food's all in the kitchen so grab whatever you want, and we can get game night started", Lena says.
Kara tries to jump up, stopped by Lena's hand on her shoulder, "Let everyone else eat first, darling".
Kara pouts but hangs back with Lena as they follow everyone into the kitchen.
Everyone is focused on their food as they settle in and start the first game, charades. The teams are the couples against Ruby and J'onn and in an effort to let it go on as long as possible Kara acts out first, letting Lena remain seated. The score is very close after the first round and Lena grins as she steps up to take her turn.
Lena manages to stay pretty focused but of course notices Nia's confused look at the combined logo on her shirt. Everyone notices the moment understanding hits the Naltorian as she squeals, jumping up from her spot between Kara and Brainy to almost tackle Lena.
"Oh my god", Nia yells, jumping up and down, "You're pregnant?".
Lena laughs, her heart full at the happiness and love she feels as she reaches out for Kara, "I guess our turn is paused".
Kara grins, standing next to her.
"I'm so excited", Nia cheers, "a Supercorp baby!".
"There was a 99% possibility that this would happen", Brainy says, causing Nia to whirl around.
"You knew?", she asks, glaring at him, "and you didn't tell me?".
"This does explain the very excited thoughts", J'onn says, nodding at the two soon-to-be moms, "Congratulations".
It takes them a while to get back to game, especially to get Nia to focus and stop blaming Brainy.
Once everyone left, Lena cleaned up the games while Kara finished off the food.
"You sure you don't want some?", Kara asks, mumbling through a mouth full of potstickers.
"I'm sure", Lena nods, smiling, leaving a kiss on Kara's puffed out cheek, wrapping her arms around her stomach. "So, everyone knows", Lena starts, settling her head on Kara's shoulder, "How do you feel?".
"Me?", Kara asks, "I'm excited but how do you feel? You're the one that's pregnant".
"Relieved that everyone knows, not looking forward to when I start showing", Lena says, moving one hand to her own stomach.
"Aww you're gonna be adorable with a little baby bump", Kara says, setting down the now empty containers and turning to put her own hand over Lena's.
Lena blushes, "yeah, well, I'm not looking forward to not fitting in my clothes and strangers asking how far along I am and touching me and …", Lena cringes.
"Are you excited about any of it?", Kara teases.
Lena flushes, bright crimson. "Feeling the baby move", she admits quietly and Kara grins down at her. "And Sam says second trimester the sex is gonna be great", she teases, lightning the mood and causing Kara to go beet red.
"It won't hurt the baby?", Kara asks, worried.
"No of course not. Actually, it can be good for the pregnancy. Is that why you've been so careful? You're afraid you're going to hurt the baby", Lena asks.
"You didn't feel like it anyway", Kara shrugs, "You've been so sick and with everything going on… I don't mind cuddling; I just want to be close to you".
Lena sticks her bottom lip out in a small pout, as her hand slide up to cradle Kara's jaw, "You're adorable and I love you so much". She leans up and plants a firm kiss on Kara's lips both of them settling into the embrace. Lena traces Kara's lip with her tongue, begging for entrance that is quickly allowed and neither of them notice they're moving until they're horizontal on the couch, Kara carefully hovering over Lena so as to not put pressure on her stomach.
"You can lay on me Kara", Lena pants, grabbing Kara's hip and pulling her down.
Hands and lips move quickly as clothes are removed and the couple falls into a blissful state as they catch their breath, enjoying the close contact of bare skin.
"Remember when you said everyone knows about the baby now?", Kara starts, in between bites of pancake.
"Yeah?", Lena asks, what about it.
"Well not everyone knows", Kara says, "my parents don't know".
"Oh Rao", Lena shakes her head, "I'm so sorry. Hell without the notes from Zor-El's lab I wouldn't even be pregnant. Do you want to call them?".
"Or visit… like a baby moon. Space travel is probably safe before the second trimester, right? I mean I wanted to go and warn them you know just because this was close one to Argo being found out, but also tell them about this", Kara says, her face softening as she slides her hand around Lena's waist, "with all of this over we can go, rest, and hopefully get you past this morning sickness".
Lena smiles, reaching up to kiss Kara, "that sounds like a great idea, darling".
"Yeah?", Kara asks. Lena chuckles and kisses her again. "You know maybe we could go back to that cottage in Ireland too", Kara offers, "I get to go back to Argo, we should go to your home too".
"That sounds great, but I'm already home", Lena says, looking into Kara's piercing blue eyes, laughing as Kara blushes and looks away.
"You know what I meant", Kara mumbles.
Lena uses one hand to tilt Kara's chin back while the other braces on Kara's shoulder, keeping her balance. "I know", she says, connecting their lips in a slow loving kiss, "and I love you for that. It's perfect".
"I love you", Kara says, holding Lena close and reconnecting their lips.
Plans are quickly made for a few weeks out, a message sent to Argo City and Alura's eager reply that they can't wait to see them again.
Lena settles into L-Corp and her new lightened schedule already working with Jess to clear her maternity leave as well as working with Sam to put the finishing touches on Jess's promotion to COO.
Kara goes back to her seat as Editor-in-Chief as well as helping out with the occasional, unavoidable Supergirl save. She's done well over the last year stepping back and trusting the city to take of themselves, made easier with Alex's incredible agents and Dreamer and the Martian Manhunter ready to help when it is needed. She is incredibly thankful for such an amazing team that she can trust to help the city so that she can step back and be there for Lena and their baby and so Lena doesn't have to watch her fly off into danger all the time. She smiles to herself, so excited for what the future holds.
