Last time on Sonic the Hedgehog, after being duped by Omelette, Sonic and his friends go after the Wing Fortress in order to stop Eggman from launching the Death Egg. The trio received a rather unexpected but welcomed help from Jenni and Nicole as they dealt with Omelette's Egg Hydra and Sage. Now with the Wing Fortress sunk but the Chaos Emeralds still in Eggman's possession, Sonic enters the newly launched Death Egg alone, ready for the final battle.

At Jenni's Mansion, as Chuck and Jules make it to the front door, they turn to see the Death Egg in the sky. Chuck could only sweat nervously as he assumes the worst, but then he sees Tails and Sally arrive on a transport vessel.

Tails: "Uncle Chuck!"

Uncle Chuck: "Tails, my boy! Where's Sonic!?"

Sally: "He's on the Death Egg. He plans to confront Eggman on his own."

Uncle Chuck: "...'Eggman'?"

As Uncle Chuck was asking, he sees the world leaders behind Tails and Sally, his eyes widening as he sees Aleena.

Jules: "Aleena, your majesty! You're okay!"

Aleena: "Physically, yes. But mentally, I'm worried about Sonic…"

Nigel looks at the sky, seeing the Death Egg for himself.

Nigel: "So that monstrosity… Is that what Ivo plans to use to destroy us?"

Jenni's Voice: "Right on the money, King Acorn!"

The crowd turns as Jenni steps out of her home, walking down the steps of her porch to greet everyone.

Tails: "Dr. Jen! Th-Thanks for the save earlier!"

Jenni: "Eh, it was nothing. The moment the Vespa Queen was ready to go, I just decided to use the twerp-bot as a quick test dummy."

The President of the United Nations looked at Jenni with a surprised look, but Jenni returned it with a glare. Cleary, she had a deep seeded hatred for the United Nation for the former president's action in exiling her.

Aleena: "Jen, I'm asking you as a dear friend… Is there any way to head up there and help Sonic?"

Jenni: "Queen Aleena, with all due respect, even if we could get up there, Sonic would likely turn down the offer knowing it would be too dangerous. But besides that, my brother Ivo has a force field around the Death Egg's perimeter. And unlike Snively's faulty design, this one encompasses the entire station, leaving no room for entry. Add some outdoor security systems and you got a recipe of Sonic being our only hope."

Jenni could tell Aleena really did not want to hear that as the group all looked up at the Death Egg. A wave of unease filled the air as they hoped Sonic would be okay.

In cyberspace, Nicole and Sage continue their fight as they construct and deconstruct the terrain around them to either block the other's attacks or trip up their opponent. This back and forth lasts until Sage hears her father's voice call for her.

Sage: "Ah. I see. So the Wing Fortress has fallen. This was a distraction."

Nicole: "Hah. Finally caught on to that fact, huh? Lady Jen's plan was to keep you busy long enough for my friends to topple the ship and stop the Death Egg."

Sage: "Unfortunately for you, the latter half of that plan has failed. The Death Egg has been launched. Father's victory is assured."

Nicole: "I have confidence in my friends… They'll still win, regardless of what you say."

Sage glares at Nicole before creating a red firewall to separate her and Nicole, then retreats back to the Eggnet to link up with the Death Egg's defense systems. Nicole's swords vanish as she stands there, hoping that everything will turn out okay, bravado aside.

Aboard the Death Egg, Sonic stands up from where he landed as he looks around. He finds himself on some kind of bridge in goodness knows where on the Death Egg.

Sonic: "Alright… I'm in the major base of operations run by a mad scientist… Now for the obvious question… Where do I go? Any maps around here?"

Sonic looks around for any kind of map before a voice sounds from the intercom. It sounded like a girl's voice.

Sage: "Intruder on Sublevel Bridge 2B. Badnik forces are to destroy the intruder with full power and extreme prejudice. I repeat-"

Sonic: "Whuh oh! That's not good! Better move your butt, Sonic!"

Sonic moves through the bridge quickly, exiting through the next door, but finds himself quickly surrounded by Eggrobos by the dozen on both sides. The robots start firing their lasers at Sonic, but the hedgehog makes some quick maneuvers over the bots, running on the wall in order to bypass the squad and outrun them. As he runs, he quickly spots a tube going up.

Sonic: "...Do I wanna know where that tube goes?"

A laser shot passing over his head quickly reminds him of the squad pursuing him. He jumps onto the entrance of the tube, breaking it open and getting sucked in, flying him into another part of the Death Egg. If nothing else, he at least gave the robots the slip.

Sonic: "Whew… That was close. Really starting to miss having Tails, Sally, or Lam beside me right now… What would they do…?"

Sonic took a moment to think as he leaned against the wall, unintentionally hiding so the voice would not spot him through the nearby security cameras.

Sonic: "Hmm… Sally would think about it logically… The core of the Death Egg should be in its center. If I take that out, that might destroy this whole thing in one shot. Assuming Eggman didn't think of that already…"

With a plan, Sonic rushes through the halls of the base, soon finding himself confronted by a variety of Badniks, from Buzzbombers and Crabmeat to Slicers and Bombs. Eggman wasn't making the journey to the core an easy one, that's for sure. As Sonic crosses another bridge, he's stopped by several Bombs blocking the way.

Sonic: "Whoa! H-Hey! You're not gonna blow up the bridge just to… stop me, are you?"

The Bombs self-destruct, destroying the bridge Sonic was on, causing him to fall deeper into the Death Egg as he tries to find some way to stop himself. He manages to grab a wire, yanking it apart as he swings across the chasm he was falling in and goes through another door, slamming into a wall on the other side.

Sonic: "...Ow… How does Tarzan make it look easy…?"

Sonic scratches his head as he's starting to lose his bearings on where he was. He sees more Eggrobos confront him, pointing their lasers at him.

Sonic: "Okay. I've lost my patience."

Sonic glares at the robots before rushing them. He starts bashing and tearing through them, noticing that no Mobinis were powering these particular Badniks. With that bit of information, he decides to not hold back as he finishes off the rest of the squad of Eggrobos. He then pauses as he looks at the robot pieces.

Sonic: "What's up? Why are these robots not carrying the usual warm and fuzzy critters as batteries? Either Ro-butt-nik found a different power source, or he's not letting a single creature survive on the surface of Mobius… More reason to stop him before he makes his move!"

As Sonic tears his way through more robots, none having Mobinis like he thought, he finds himself rushing through a hall before a sign catches his attention.

Sonic: "'Mobian Containment Core', huh?"

Sonic enters the door next to it before gasping at what he saw. The room was gargantuan, easily taking up about 40% of the base's total structure. And on the walls of the room were Mobians and humans of every kind, all being used as a large battery to power the Death Egg.

Sonic: "No way… Eggman would stoop this low to use innocent people as batteries!? I gotta stop this machine somehow!"

Sonic quickly rushes over to the controls, but of course, he had no idea how to turn off the machine. So he started mashing random buttons at lightning speed until he got the desired result. A few of the pods started opening, dropping the Mobians they contained, though the landing was anything but soft.

Sonic: "Oop… Sorry! Are you okay!?"

A black cat in a purple witch outfit spoke up, rubbing her head as she kept her eyes hidden under the shadow of her hat.

Black Cat: "Nothing that can't be fixed with a little ointment."

An aqua green hedgehog in a red outfit dusts herself off as she walks up to Sonic.

Green Hedgehog: "Hmph! You're not the one who was sent by my agency, are you? You're a little on the small side."

Sonic: "Uh… Lady, I'm just an average hedgehog trying to save people here."

Black Cat: "Hmm? Average hedgehog…? Aren't you…?"

Sirens started blaring as robots started swarming into the room. Sonic scowled as he sees the robots come in, likely because of his button mashing.

Sonic: "Stay back everyone! I'll try to make a path for you all to escape-"

As Sonic got ready to fight, the black cat snapped her fingers, igniting the robots on one side of the room on fire. Sonic's eyes widen as he sees the robots just explode from the fire before turning to the cat.

Black Cat: "My, that felt very good. After these metal cretins got the drop on me back at my shop."

The black cat turned to the other side and did the same, igniting the robots on fire before causing them to explode. Sonic was… very impressed by this display and worked quickly to get the other Mobian's free. Once the room was thoroughly crowded, Sonic pulled out a map using the machine he button mashed on to see if there was a way to escape. Once he found one, he instructed anyone who could fight to defend those that couldn't as he instructed them to the nearest escape pod room. Once they cleared out, the black cat slowed to a stop as she looked at Sonic.

Black Cat: "'Average hedgehog', huh? Interesting choice of words."

Sonic: "Yeah well. You're a pretty average cat, lady. I don't see firework shows like that often."

Black Cat: "Oh trust me, I don't do them for free. The name's Agatha by the way. See you around… Prince Sonic."

Sonic smiled as the black cat walked by him, the door closing behind her.

Sonic: "Huh. Didn't think she'd guess it so soon. Hopefully she keeps it to herself though. Don't want the wrong people knowing who I am."

Sonic looks at the map again before confirming there was an access elevator to the core, though the core wasn't where he thought it would be; instead it was where Eggman was likely to be. Cracking his knuckles, Sonic makes for the quickest route there.

After bashing his way through more robots, Sonic makes it to the access elevator, which leads to where Eggman was.

Sonic: "Boy, for an elevator, it sure is way big. Big enough for a fight."

Sonic really wasn't fooled; but he played along as he approached the button going up and pressed it. Once he did, he turned to find a girl floating above him, wearing a black cloak or gown and covered in red… cyber stuff. Code? Either way, Sage glared at him as she spoke.

Sage: "You are a nuisance, hedgehog."

Sonic: "Aw really? And here I expected a 'Hello' or a 'Welcome' and maybe we could be friends."

Sage: "Your obvious sarcasm is very evident. Friends are a needless concept."

Sonic: "Really? I got pretty far so far thanks to my friends. Doesn't sound so needless to me in that case."

Sage: "Your ability to come this far is only measured by an unlikely equation that persistently defies all logic."

Sonic stares at Sage with an obvious 'What' on his face.

Sage: "You have just been lucky so far. But your luck will soon run out."

Sonic: "Oh really? And why do you say that?"

Sage: "Because… I will finish you off myself. I will not let my father dirty his hands with an insignificant creature like you."

Sage lifts up an arm before snapping her fingers, causing Badniks to suddenly appear from thin air. Sonic starts to get the message as he sees himself surrounded.

Sonic: "Oh I see. The pre final battle warm up, huh? Okay. Let's rock!"

Sage: "Destroy."

Sage sends the Motobugs and Buzzbombers to attack Sonic together, the Motobugs aiming to ram into Sonic while the Buzzbombers shoot from afar. Sonic smirks before jumping over the Motobugs, letting them crash into each other. He then kicked one Motobug into the air to intercept the shots from the Buzzbombers before going in to bash them, destroying them.

Sonic: "That it? I'm hardly impressed."

Sage: "Do not get cocky with me, hedgehog. That was only the first wave."

Sage snaps her fingers as several Orbinauts appeared, each closing in with their spike balls orbiting them. Sonic knew the last trick he pulled with the Motobugs wouldn't work this time, especially with the robots moving so slow. He then waited for the robots to fire their orbs before using a Spin Dash to ram through a few of them, quickly jumping to smash the others.

Sage: "Try this on for size."

Sage summons multiple Batbrains and Rollers, who immediately go on the attack on Sonic. Sonic is hit by the Rollers, knocking him to the floor as the Batbrains rush him. He kicks one Batbrain before breakdancing the others.

Sonic: "Okay, you caught me sleeping there. But I'm still in the game!"

Sage: "Not for long."

Sage snaps her fingers as she starts raining down Bombs which explode upon hitting the floor. Sonic dodges the Rollers, Batbrains, and Bombs, but only barely; thankfully the Bombs destroy the Rollers and Batbrains. He starts panting, now starting to feel tired.

Sage: "You won't survive this."

Sage summons Eggrobo Gunners and Eggrobo Heavies next as they start firing; laser blasts and missile fire storm towards Sonic, forcing him to start moving to dodge. He tried to rush a Gunner, but a Heavy stops him by firing a missile at him. He then gets an idea as he coaxed another Heavy to fire another missile at him. Once it did, he bashed the missile from underneath, causing it to bounce off his head and towards another Heavy.

Sonic: "Sorry! I don't do special deliveries!"

Sonic then rushed at another Heavy and tore it apart. The Gunners start firing rapidly, but they accidently cause friendly fire on the Heavies as Sonic draws their fire to them. Sonic then uses a Spin Dash as the Gunners cool off their lasers from firing too much. The robots were very thoroughly destroyed as he dusts off his hands.

Sonic: "Is that all you got, lady!? I can do this all day!"

Sage: "We'll see. Time for Lord Robotnik's personal guard. The Egg Hammer Squad."

Sage raises a hand as four Egg Hammers hit the ground, each ready to smash Sonic. Sonic dodges a swing from one hammer before jumping over another.

Sonic: "Yo, isn't this a bit overkill!?"

Sage: "Is there any better form of kill?"

Sonic: "Oh ha ha… Very funn-EEEEEEK!?"

Sonic jumps away from another hammer swing before jumping on top of one of the Egg Hammers' head.

Sonic: "Hey, ugly! You call that a swing? I've seen better swinging from a baseball! And that doesn't even have arms!"

The Egg Hammer he taunted fell for the taunt as it swung its hammer at the one Sonic was on, smashing it and destroying it.

Sage: "Stop, you idiots! You're only destroying your-"

Sonic: "Come on, guys! You can't hit the broadside of a barn with that huge hammer, let alone a little hedgehog? Laaame."

Sonic's continued taunting angered the Egg Hammers as they swung at the hedgehog, though they only ended up hitting each other, destroying each other as the hedgehog evaded their attacks. Once only one Egg Hammer remained, Sonic whistled for it.

Sonic: "Hey, fatso! I'm making it easy on you this time! I won't even move!"

Sage: "What are you up to now? Even he's not dumb enough to smash himself."

Sonic smirks as the Egg Hammer approaches Sonic. Sonic waves at it as it raises its hammer. As it swings down, Sonic side steps it quickly as the Egg Hammer misses and hits… Sage.

Sage: "Wh-"

Sage's hologram scatters to pieces from the impact; it didn't hit her, but the impact scrambled her hologram projector, causing it to malfunction and force her form to disappear. The Egg Hammer looks around confused before it and all the robot pieces on the elevator vanish.

Sonic: "So what's the score so far? Me 7, Eggman 0?"

Sage's Voice: "Don't taunt me, brat… How did you know that would work?"

Sonic: "I just figured, since you were summoning the robots, getting rid of you would get rid of the robots. You're right, I am lucky when it counts. But the strength of me and my friends is real."

Sage goes quiet, fuming at her loss as the elevator reaches the top. As the elevator stops, Sonic is greeted by a great view of Mobius from the stratosphere. And looking out at the view was a tall, egg shaped human in red. His white gloved hands were behind his back as he stared out at the planet from above.

Eggman: "Well, well. I never thought anyone would give even Sage trouble. Though I guess that is to be expected of Charles' nephew, Queen Aleena's son."

Sonic: "So you know my uncle and mom. Good for you. So you're Ivo Robotnik. A certain someone told me a lot about you."

Eggman: "Yes, my sister, Jennifer, right? To think she would work against me despite all my efforts to keep her alive…"

Sonic: "Yeah. And then you decide to turn an innocent girl into a pet project. And for what exactly?"

Eggman smiled, turning to Sonic as he started to pace now.

Eggman: "For the development and evolution of mankind, my dear boy. You see, humans and Mobians have become far too frail. Disease, scratches, cuts, bloodloss… Anything could kill us at any given moment. Anything could snap that little line we call life that we hold so dear. I needed an alternative to medicine… A method in which we can prolong our lives. The secret to true immortality. And I found it… Thanks to your uncle Charles, boy. Robots don't need to sleep, eat, or even breathe. They can just keep going and going forever, without rest. Yes… I thought that was the answer! That by turning everyone into robots that we could obtain true immortality! Isn't that brilliant!?"

Sonic: "No it isn't! That's tearing away what makes living worth it. By taking away our ability to breath, feel, and taste, you're robbing people of what makes them people! If anything, it's feeding your ego!"

Eggman: "Yes. I thought the same thing as well."

Sonic: "Huh?"

Eggman: "You see… I thought about helping people by showing exactly what I see as a good thing. None of these little imperfections of the common living creature… Robots truly are perfection I say! …But then a thought crossed my mind. The world would reject this change immediately. Instantly even. Riots could form. Death would still be certain. Wars would even start. So… I decided to change gears… Instead of saving the people on Mobius through roboticization… I figured I'd wipe them all out! And in their place, build a truly happy utopia! Presenting… the main weapon of the Robotnik Empire! The Death Egg's true purpose! THE ULTIMATE ANNIHILATOR!"

Sonic watched a simulation on a holo-monitor as it showed the Death Egg's Ultimate Annihilator go off. All the humans and Mobians - no, every living creature on Mobius - gone in an instant. Sonic watched in horror at this before it turned into a look of pure anger, glaring at Eggman as he smiled brightly.

Eggman: "Now, boy… I'm not completely heartless… I'm willing to spare you, your little group of "Freedom Fighters", and your family if you join me in my plans. Together, we can rule my utopia, keep it in order and act as my eyes and ears. We can live in a truly peaceful world… If you agree…"

Eggman approaches Sonic, extending a hand out as he smiles. Sonic continued to glare at Eggman before extending his own hand and gripping Eggman's. As it seemed like Sonic agreed to Eggman's terms, Eggman is quickly pulled towards Sonic and is given a hard one-two kick away from the hedgehog, pushing across the floor. He growls as the dents on his robot body start to heal over instantly. Sonic then waves off the hand that gripped Eggman's.

Sonic: "Let me make this very clear for you, Eggman. There is no way in hell and back that I will ever agree to that! Sonic the Hedgehog loves the world as it is, imperfections and all. Because I get to meet new people, make new discoveries, and live for a better tomorrow. Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but we all push through together. The world you intend to build… I want no part of it!"

Eggman scowls as he stands up, dusting himself off.

Eggman: "I see. A shame, but not unexpected. Very well… Then I'll just destroy you, along with the rest of the trash."

Eggman smiles as he taps a hidden button on the floor. He falls through, but as Sonic was about to run after him, the floor opens up to reveal a separate elevator. A giant red robot rose from the elevator, the face of it resembling Eggman's own face. The size of the mech dwarfing the Egg Hammers from earlier, and with such thick armor, Sonic could tell this fight wasn't going to be easy.

Eggman: "Time to meet your maker! With the Death Egg Robot! All systems! FULL POWER!"

The robot starts to stomp its way towards Sonic, but the speedy hedgehog dodges the stomps before jumping at the mech's stomach. But his attack bounced right off. Eggman laughs as his robot fists fly off and punch Sonic in the face… twice.

Eggman: "Fool! You think I wouldn't come armed? This robot has the seven Chaos Emeralds as its power source, increasing its power 100 fold! Attack all you want, but you'll never win!"

Sonic: "When there's a will, there's a way, doc!"

Sonic dodges a flurry of Eggman missiles shot from the back of the Death Egg Robot as he slides between the robot's legs. He then jumps at the robot's back, managing to tip it forwards enough to fall.

Sonic: "Just like that!"

Eggman: "Hah! Nice try!"

Sonic is immediately sucker punched by the rocket fists, punching him in the gut before sending him to the wall. The Death Egg Robot stood back up before jumping high in the air. As Sonic is recovering from the hit, he immediately sees the robot attempt to stomp down on him. He quickly moves out of the way, but a shockwave catches him, sending bouncing across the floor.

Eggman: "So what was that about a 'will' or 'way' or whatever, brat? Because I believe you've not found either."

Sonic: "Bravado aside, this thing is too sturdy for normal attacks… I need to think of something that could crack its shell… Maybe…"

Sonic gets an idea before continuing to play the dodge game. He avoids more attempted stomps from the Death Egg Robot before he sees the attack he was hoping for - missiles. Sonic ran away from the missiles, running on the walls just slow enough that their tracking would still follow him. He then jumps down, landing on the face of the Death Egg Robot.

Eggman: "Hey! Get off my face, you little-"

Sonic: "Well, if you insist."

Sonic jumps off the face of the robot as the missiles come towards the Death Egg Robot instead.

Eggman: "Wha-!?"

The missiles hit directly, exploding violently as smoke covers the arena. Sonic sighs as he smiles.

Sonic: "Well, so much for that. Looks like his Death Egg Robot became the Fried Egg Robot."

Eggman: "Oh really?"

Sonic: "Huh?"

From the smoke, the rocket fists were fired out, causing Sonic to dodge them, but then he sees the Death Egg Robot above him quickly descend upon him. He jumps out of the way, but several bombs come out of the robot's back, exploding on the hedgehog as he's thrown into the air. The rocket fists come around and start barrage punching the hedgehog, on the chin, on his gut. As Sonic was allowed to land, two more missiles were fired at him, exploding on contact and sending him flying to the observation deck's windows, bouncing off them. The hedgehog was mortally wounded, bleeding from his mouth as he glared at the imposing towering robot that stood over him.

Eggman: "How sad. All that bravado and you couldn't even scratch my Death Egg Robot."

The Death Egg Robot lifts Sonic by his leg, bringing him to the face of the robot as Eggman's sinister grin could be seen from behind the head's glasses.

Eggman: "You should have joined me, hedgehog. You could have had this kind of power. A chance to live and all. But you squandered it by going against me. And now you'll get a front row seat to the greatest show ever! …The end of Mobius!"

Wires came from the floor behind the Death Egg Robot, plugging into outlets on the robot as energy was fed into the Death Egg. The energy from the Chaos Emeralds. The Death Egg's eyes began to glow outside, charging power for the Ultimate Annihilator.

Sonic: "No… Sally… Tails… Uncle Chuck… Jen… …Mom… I'm… I'm so sorry I failed…"

Sonic closed his eyes as he couldn't bear to watch the planet he loved get reduced to a wasteland with no life. But as he began to give up, he felt something… A pulse… Resonating from the Death Egg Robot. Was it the Chaos Emeralds? He wasn't sure, but he was willing to try anything to save his home. He began to concentrate…

Eggman: "Eh? What are you up to?"

Sonic cleared his mind; his heart resonated with the Chaos Emeralds. His thoughts were on his friends and family, everyone who expected his safe return. His eyes opened as energy started entering his body from the Death Egg Robot's - or rather the Chaos Emeralds inside it.

Sonic: "Just one try… Just… one… MORE!"

Sonic unleashed a loud battle cry as his energy skyrocketed. Eggman's sensors were going off the charts as Sonic's energy continued to climb.

Eggman: "What!? What's happening!? Why is it happening!?"

Sonic's body started to glow a golden color, energy overflowing as he unleashed the energy in one massive attack.

From the outside, everyone on Mobius saw the menacing eyes of the Death Egg starting to glow. Their final moments were at hand. Sonic's friends and family could only imagine the worst. But at that moment, the Death Egg suddenly exploded. A vicious explosion that sent the large space station coming down towards the planet it was aiming to destroy in pieces. It took a moment to process, but soon it became clear - Sonic had done it! He destroyed the Death Egg and saved everyone! Cheers rang through the air as Sally and Tails hugged, Jenni looking to Nicole on the monitor with a smile, and Nigel smiling and nodding. Aleena though walked away from the group, her mind on one question… Did Sonic make it? And where did he go?

In an unknown jungle, within a crater, Sonic lay injured, battered and bruised from his fight with the Death Egg Robot. His fur was golden for a moment before it returned back to blue. Slight twitches indicate he was still alive, but too injured to truly move. However, a figure comes from the shrubbery nearby. A slightly taller Mobian with dreadlocks and spiked knuckled gloves on his hands.

Unknown Figure: "Well, who do we have here? …Better let Kicks know we got some punk on our island."
