A/N: so y'all remember when Callie and Arizona tried for another baby well what if it worked but they already broke up and Callie was dating penny.
Callie
Calliope Torres was a well decorated doctor. She was a Harper Avery nominee for her groundbreaking work on her new prothetic trial. But she couldn't figure out why she felt so down lately. Penny was great, she was definitely easy on the eyes. And penny was funny, she was new and exciting. They had been dating for 1 month now.
"Hey," the redhead said sneaking up behind her girlfriend.
"Hey, Penny," Callie said with a smile, leaning against the nurse station, closing the binder with patients charts.
"So when do you get off today,"Penny asked with a mischievous smile?
"Well I get off at 7 and I'm not on call tonight and Arizona has Sofia," Callie said, closing the spacing in between them.
"I was think I take the illustrious Dr Torres to lunch by that I mean I just eat cafe food with you," Penny smirked leaning in for a kiss.
"I would love to eat cafeteria food with you," Callie smirked leaning in to give her another kiss. But Penny's phone beeped before she had the chance to give the girl a kiss.
"Oh, that me, sorry I've been trying to get a leak in my apartment fixed for weeks, raincheck,"Penny said, before taking off.
Callie let out a sigh. She opened back up the binder. She knew she could easily get some intern or resident to do it but she needed something to do. Chang and Rogers took all the hip replacements for today. Which was the only thing Callie thought they where qualified to do, though Callie would never say that to them. Before she could become too consumed by her thoughts her pager beeped.
"Thank you," Callie said joining her hands together looking up at the ceiling. Before walking to the room for a consult
Arizona
"Shit," Arizona mumbled to herself, looking down at the home pregnancy test.
"You know what it can be a fluke, I can be sick, and my period can always just be late, or it could be menopause," Arizona tried convincing herself.
"I'll just go to the hospital and then I'll find out for real," Arizona said to herself as she put her shoes on and grabbed her keys.
Arizona barely made it to the hospital in one piece. She was so anxious. Maybe this was G-ds twisted way of payback for breaking Callie's heart. Maybe or it was a fluke. But Arizona had a feeling it wasn't.
"Woah," Teddy said as she felt her arm being dragged and pulled.
"I thought it was your day off," Teddy asked when she finally realized who it was?
"It is ," Arizona said, keeping her eyes forward.
"You wanna tell me what going on," Teddy asked once Arizona basically threw her into an exam room?
"I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive," Arizona said, with an unreadable look on her face.
"Congra- oh no is this a bad thing," Teddy said after realizing what she said.
"I don't know Teddy," Arizona said with tears spilling from her eyes, tears she didn't even know she had.
"You know you have to tell her," Teddy said.
"Yeah but that's only if it's for real,"Arizona said.
"You just said it yourself the test was positive," Teddy said.
"Yeah but it was like a dollar store test," Arizona argued.
"Still a test," Teddy said not understanding Arizonas logic.
"Just retest me," Arizona said pulling up her sleeve.
"I haven't done this since med school," Teddy said.
"Just do it, you're the only one I trust,"Arizona said looking away as she hopped up on the table as best as she could.
"Ok Nike ," Teddy teased, earning an eye roll from Arizona.
"Ow, be more careful," Arizona said finally looking.
"See, I told you."
"Just hurry up."
"It would be quicker if you stop interrupting."
"Sorry."
"Alright I'll get the test done," Teddy said taking the vial of blood.
"Thanks, I could never repay you," Arizona said taking off the elastic from her arm.
"That's what friends are for," Teddy said, before walking off to the lab
An hour later Teddy came back with a sad look on her face worried how her friend would take the news.
"It's positive," Teddy told her, after shutting the door behind her.
"Let me see," Arizona said, grabbing the paper from Teddys hand.
Arizona took a deep breath. This should be a happy time. But she didn't have Callie. Callie, oh how would she tell her. Does she really have to tell her. She should tell her, but it's Arizonas body. But then again they planned it together. But it's Arizonas egg so technically it's her baby.
"You have to tell her," Teddy said, grabbing the paper from Arizonas hands, interrupting her internal debate.
"I guess I do."
I could really use a smoke right now, she thought to herself as she tapped her foot.
"Yea," Teddy said feeling pity for the blonde.
"Is she here?"
"Yes."
"Can you page her?"
"Sure."
A few moments later Callie waltzed into the room.
"Oh gosh Arizona are you ok," Callie asked, seeing the blonde laid out on the examination table.
"Yeah of course," Arizona said sitting up.
"I think I'll go," Teddy said getting up from her seats in the corner.
"What was that about," Callie asked, after Teddy left the room.
"I think you should sit down."
"Ok, Arizona is there something going on?"
"No," Arizona answered.
"Be truthful with me."
"No."
"Then what is it."
"I'll tell you if you let me." Arizona chuckled at how work up Callie was.
"Sorry," Callie mumbled.
"Well um," Arizona paused. "I'm pregnant."
"What not possible."
"I thought so too."
"But I thought you said it didn't work."
"I thought so too."
"So you told me based off a thought and no facts."
"Would it have changed anything?"Arizona wonder.
Callie pondered for a moment but before she could answer Arizona spoke up.
"Of course it wouldn't."
Arizona stared at Callie in anger, but Callie just smiled.
"What," Arizona groaned.
"Oh my gosh, you're pregnant ," Callie said with a happy smile, tears quickly forming in her eyes.
"Yeah," a blush formed on Arizonas face to compliment the slight smirk she wore.
"You're having a baby."
"We're having a baby," Arizona corrected.
"We're having a baby," Callie repeated with a smile. "Come here," Callie said standing up with her arms wide open.
Arizona obliged walking into Callie's arms felt like home. But she was out of her mind to even think of thing like that. Callie had a girlfriend and they have a good thing going. Penny makes Callie happy, and Callie deserves to be happy. They would just coparent like they did with Sofia.
"You have baby in their," Callie said poking Arizona stomach after letting her go.
"Yeah I do," Arizona said wiping more tears.
"Shit," Callie said, hearing her beeper go off. "Wait here I'll be back," Callie said running off. "Wait can I tell people," Callie said running back into the room.
"Only certain people," Arizona specified.
Callie
"Hello, Penny," Callie said through the phone.
"Hello to you too," Penny giggled.
"You called," Callie asked?
"Yeah just telling you I made reservations for 8."
"That's all?"
"Yeah you sound not excited about our date tonight."
"No, I'm excited i just got out of a long surgery and I only have twenty minutes before I have to go into another one," Callie explained.
"Yeah no of course, so do you want me to cancel," Penny asked?
"Umm, I think I could make it in time," Callie lied.
"no, I'll just cancel it, I don't want you to where yourself thin."
"Thank you."
"So what kind of surgery?"
"Um a hip replacement, nothing fancy."
"Well i think anything you do is fancy."
"Sorry, im getting paged," Callie lied.
"Oh, well let me know when I can reschedule," Penny knew she was lying.
"Of course," Callie said before hanging up.
And even though her schedule was changed she did end up staying longer than she intended to when a trauma came in.
"So how did you take the news," Teddy asked, as she repaired a tear in the man's heart?
"I'm happy it's what I dream of," Callie smiled so wide you could see it under the mask.
"I'm happy for you then."
"Thank you."
"And word of advice be gentle with her she's still hurt," Teddy said as she threw in the last stitch.
"What do you mean," Callie wondered, confused by Teddys word.
"I think you know, Deluca close up for me."
"Yes ma'am," He moved to were teddy previously stood.
Callie turned the drill up causing Deluca to look at her.
"What are you looking at," Callie asked?
"She right ma'am about Dr Robbins I live with her and I've seen her."
"No one asked you," Callie barked, mostly because she felt guilty.
"Arizona what are you still doing here it's your day off," Callie asked?
"Your patients pregnant wifes baby was in distress, and I needed to monitor the baby in surgery. And then karev needed help on a 12 year old with liver lac so I stayed for that," Arizona slumped into the couch in the attending lounge.
"Wheres Sofia then?"
"Meredith's, she got off an hour ago so she took the kids."
"Oh," Callie sighed as she plopped on to the couch beside Arizona.
"How was today," Arizona asked to break the ice.
"We're having a baby," Callie turned to Arizona with a smile.
"Yep," Arizona gave a nervous smile.
"We're having a baby, we're having a baby," Callie said in a singsongy voice as she got up. "We're having a baby," Callie repeated as she danced. "Come on dance with me."
"There's no music you dork," Arizona laughed as she watched Callie dance.
"More dancing for me."
After a few second Arizona finally gave in peeling herself of the couch and moving to the melody in her head.
"See it's fun," Callie declared."We're having a baby," Callie grabbed Arizonas hands as they dance in a circle.
"We're having a baby," Arizona copied.
They dance for a bit coming closer as it got hard to breath. Arizona rested her arms around Callie's shoulders and Callie's arms hanged loosely adround Arizonas waist as they rested there foreheads together.
"There's a baby inside you," Callie smiled, closing her eyes.
"A mighty oak," Arizona whispered.
"I miss Mark."
"Me too," Callie started to tear up.
"Mark would've love this," Arizona smiled with her eyes closed.
"Yeah he would've," Callie agreed.
They stood in silence resting their weight against one another.
"I should probably go," Callie finally opened her eyes.
"Yeah," Arizona opened her eyes too, but no one moved they stood still staring into each others eyes.
Callie had these big brown eyes that you could lost in, those eyes offered the key to happiness and so much more. Arizona always loved Callie's eyes and the way she smiled. She loved how she would show all her teeth, it was weird to think about how people don't show there teeth when they smile but Callie does. And she shows both rows, and Arizona loved the laughed that followed her smiled most of the time.
"Sorry," Maggie pulled Arizona out of thought.
They quickly jumped away as if the other was electric and they had just been shocked.
"I'm going to go," Arizona held her head down as she walked out of the room.
"See you later," Callie said, as she stared at the spot that Arizona just stood.
"What was that about," Maggie asked?
"It was nothing," Callie straightened her jacket.
"It seemed like something," Maggie smirked as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"It wasn't anything so drop it."
"I thought you where with what's her face what happened to her."
"I am still with Penny," Callie argued. " Oh shit I have to tell Penny," callie whispered as she left the room.
Callie stood outside Pennys apartment preparing to knock as Penny arrived outside.
"Hey," Penny slurred.
"She has one to many at Jos I didnt know she's your girlfriend," Wilson explained as she walked her over.
"You're very sexy," Penny tried to whisper.
"Thank you Wilson."
"I couldn't leave her alone," Jo explained.
"Thank you anyway."
"Okay let's get you inside," Callie tried to not laugh.
"So you can do what," Penny tried to be sexy.
"Wilson do you have her keys," Callie asked?
"Right here," Sh handed over the keys to Callie.
"Thanks."
"Be careful she can be a bit handsy," Jo told her before walking away.
"Good night, Wilson," Callie waved with her free hand.
"Night Torres," Jo waved with her back turned.
"I don't think you've ever been this sexy," Penny started causing Callie to raise an eyebrow.
"Oh my gosh I didnt mean it like that," Penny laughed as they made there way to her bed room.
"You're very quiet what on your mind pretty lady," Penny laughed.
"Nothing," Callie said, as she helped her to bed. "Let me take off you shoes and then get you changed ," Callie offered.
"Someone's eager to see me naked," Penny teased.
"Just give me your foot."
Callie successfully got both shoes off was getting ready to go for the pants when she realized penny was asleep, she tucked her in and made sure she was comfortable.
The next day at work Callie tried her best to avoid Maggie but It was hard to since she's a department head.
"You going to Meredith's house party," Maggie asked?
"Yes I am," Callie answered.
"Bringing a plus one?"
"My girlfriend Penny."
"Oh, I thought you where back with Arizona."
"Well you thought wrong," Callie quipped.
"Sorry geez I surrendered," Maggie said, before walking out.
"Be careful she's in a mood," Maggie whispered to Arizona as she walked into her lab.
"Wow, ive never been in here," Arizona mumbled under her breath.
"it's beautiful isn't it," Callie smiled.
"yes it is, but what's with this mood that Maggie said you have going?"
"Maggie is meddlesome and can't mind her business so I'm always in a mood with her."
"Okay, well are you going to the dinner party tonight," Arizona asked?
"Yea I'm bringing Penny."
"Oh well see you tonight," Arizona put on her best fake smile as she slipped out the door.
Good why did her heart make her feel this way. You're not together you're only having a baby together, so pull yourself together.
"Oh hey teddy you going to the dinner party tonight," Arizona asked?
"Nope, someone's gotta hold down the fort."
"Of course."
"Do you think they like me," Penny asked?
"Yes they will of course they," Callie tried to reassure her girlfriend.
"You promise," Penny asked, before opening the car door?
"Promise," Callie smiled.
Inside Arizona and April peaked at penny out the window.
"I didn't know Callie's new girlfriend was a redhead," April commented.
"I don't think Penny knows I'm pregnant," Arizona whispered to April.
"Oh my."
"I know."
"I'm going to need more wine," April got up to refil her glass. She was never good at secrets unless they where her own.
"Where Maggie," Amelia asked?
Arizona shrugged
"I'm here," Maggie announced as she ran to the kitchen.
"Finally where have you been," Amelia grilled her.
"I'm here now okay, and I have to pee," Maggie
"People are starting too coming amd this all stilllooks like ingredients," Amelia pointed to the stuff in front of her. "Do you have an E.T.A on dinner ?"
"You can roll up your selves and start chopping some veggies," Maggie suggested.
"Oh no, I'm more of your front of the house girl. Food prep was never my strong suit, I just keep the guest happy," Amelia chirped.
"Yeah, this dinners going to suck," Alex laughed.
"Stop talking," Maggie yelled before pausing "Meredith you take over, I have to go pee," Maggie made her way to the bathroom.
"You gonna do something with those," Edwards pointed to the empty glasses in Meredith's handed.
"Yeah club soda with lime for Torres and white wine for her friend," Meredith pushed the glasses into Amelia's hands.
"She here," Amelia was suprised by the arrival of theyre newest guest. "Is she nice," Amelia asked?
"Bottles empty," April held up the empty bottle.
"Are you okay Meredith," Arizona asked?
"Fine, just great," Meredith said with a psychopathic smile.
"Are you sure, because you don't seem fine and maybe it's not my place to ask," Arizona began as Penny and Callie made there way over to her. Meredith saw that, so she sat down the tray of food she had and ran upstairs taking the picture of Derek with her.
"Meredith," Arizona called but Callie was right in front of her.
"Penny this is Arizona Robbins. Arizona, this is Penny," Callie introduced.
"Hi," Arizona shook her hand out.
"Hi," Penny shook it.
"We've heard so many great things about you," Arizona looked up the stair case.
"Oh that nice," Penny looked at Callie.
"All good I promise," Arizona smiled.
"Well I would hope," Penny looked back at Callie
"She's smitten," Maybe Arizona felt guilty for last night but she felt as if she was pushing it.
"Why don't we go say hi to Amelia and the other guest," Callie interrupted before Arizona could speak again.
"Gosh I've moved all over,um three naval bases in the states, Guam, Bahrain," Arizona started to list off all the places she's lived.
"Whoa, hold on we lived in Bahrain," Penny interrupted her.
"Get out," Arizona was suprised, she had more in common with Penny than she thought. She really wanted to hate the girl but she couldn't. Now she knows why Callie is falling head over heels for this girl.
Callie phone started to buzz. "It's the hospital." She walked away to answer.
"My moms a petroleum seismologist, so every two years, new school, new language, new food. I was I college before I ever tried Mac and cheese," Penny mentioned.
"Gosh, well try telling a class your name is Arizona." Arizona spoke. " No honey not where your from what your name," Arizona did her best impression of her elementary teachers
"Okay you definitely had it worse," Penny chuckled.
"Um sorry I need to go do something really quickly," Arizona made her way over to April.
"Can I steal her really quickly," Arizona asked?
"I meet her, Penny, and she's wonderful," Arizona stated.
"Jackson's staying at Baileys," April blurted.
"And I don't hate her," Arizona admitted,
"So the chief of surgery is aiding and abetting the dissolution of my marriage," April continued.
"And she definitely doesn't know I'm pregnant, and I can't ever drink," Arizona sighed. "Will you drink for me?"
"Oh I'm way ahead of you," April took a swig from the wine glass.
"April you truly are a life saver," Arizona said as grabbed plates from the cabinet.
"Jackson doesn't think so," April groaned.
"Wilson set the table," Arizona handed the plates to Jo. "You're a catch any guy would be lucky to have you," Arizona gave April a hug.
"You did most of the cooking I just kinda instructed."
"Yeah well you have enough alcohol in your system to start a fire," April laughed. "Now come on we have a dinner party to save."
"I don't think this dinner party can be saved," April giggled as she came out of the hug.
"Oh no Penny sit by me everyone here has already heard my jokes," Amelia pulled her in her direction.
"Wait where's Torres," Alex piped up once he noticed the women was missing.
"Wait she just left you here by yourself," Jo instigated. "I would kill you," She narrowed her eyes at Alex as a warning to never do that.
"She said she'll be right back. although we all know how night calls go. I might be asking one of you for a ride home," Penny gave a polite smile.
"So Penny I've been in the kitchen most of the night. What did you say you do," April asked as she grabbed the salad bowl.
"I'm a doctor, a surgery resident actually," Penny spoke as she waited for the veggies to be passed to her.
"Where do you work?"April asked as she cut into the beef.
"At the moment, uh, technically I'm between gigs," Penny tried to give a vague answer.
"What does that mean?"Amelia questioned.
"Well, uh, last year," Penny paused looking at Meredith" the hospital where I was working was closed down. And then right before I met calliope
"I used to call her calliope," Arizona thought to herself.
"Arizona," April laughed while everyone looked at her.
Arizona was horrified.
"It's kind of like a joke with us, cause my names Penelope. Penelope, Calliope," Penny pointed out.
"Penelope Blake," Bailey shouted out.
"Wow, Bailey are you drunk," Arizona asked?
Bailey ignored her.
"That's why I know your name. You're in my calendar. I have a meeting with you on Monday," Bailey smirked as she cracked the code in her mind.
Penny turned to Meredith before answering "Y-yes."
"Why," Alex wondered?
"Well she is a new resident transfer," Bailey explained.
"What," Meredith blurted
"Well, yeah she's joining the program at Grey Sloan Memorial," Bailey announced.
Penny was meet with a sea of congratulations.
"Are you kidding," Meredith look to Bailey then to Penny. " Is she kidding?"
"I rematches to Grey Sloan memorial," Penny explained.
"So where were you working before you know to one that close," Amelia asked?
"it was um," Penny paused. " a smaller suburban center out by the sound."
"She was at Dillard," Meredith blurted. "Dillard Medical Center."
"Dillard, isn't that where," Jackson started.
"It's where Derek died," Meredith finished. "Isn't that right Penny."
"That's, that's right," Penny
"Perfect Penny killed my husband," Meredith expressed in anger. " Kepner the food is getting cold, let's pass those peas," Everything stop after Meredith exposed this secret. She could stay with those Pity eyes.
"Excuse me," Meredith got up to go back up the stairs when the peas didn't come fast enough.
"What," Amelia paused. "What did she say."
"I think what she meant , me, meant to or was trying to," Penny tried to collect her words,
"I'm going to go check on mer," Alex.
"Were you Derek's doctor," Bailey
"I was one of them, yeah," penny
"I'm sorry, you're coming to work with us," Arizona tried to her best to stay nice.
"You were there that night? You treated him?" Amelia began to ask.
"The night her husband came in
Amelia interrupted "My brother. Derek was my brother."
Penny tried her best to stay calm as she got accused of basically being an incompetent doctor. She almost felt like a murdering sitting next to the people that loved a man that died on her watch.
Suddenly the door open and joyous laughter filled the room but it still couldn't drown out the somber tone.
"Hey, Hi," Owen and Callie spoke as they hung their coats up.
"Pj, good we didn't miss dinner," Callie smiled.
Bailey sighed, as Callie walked over to Penny. That girl doesn't know what she just walked into she thought to herself.
"See, I told you I was only goin to be gone for a minute," Callie walked over finally seeing the looks on everyones face.
"Whoa what's going on?" Callie asked concerned.
"Um, pennys coming to work with us," Arizona plastered on her best fake smile.
"Oh this is Penny," Owen pipped up.
"Waot for it," April whispered.
"Yoi told them. I thought we were gonna wait til," Callie
"Penny killed Derek," Amelia cut off Callie.
Penny turned to Amelia. "Please can we just talk?"
"Whag did you just say?" Callie was confused
"Penny," Jackson paused, he wanted to say it better than Amelia so he paused to find the right words. "Used to work at, uh."
Apparently Jackson wasn't going fast enough for Amelia so she jumped in again. "She was there the night that he died. She was his doctor. Meredith said she killed him."
There was that word again killed. It made her feel like a criminal, was she in the wrong, a bit but did she do what she did with the intent to kill no. Could she have been a bit more persistent with the request for a ct yes but she was only a resident and she couldn't force her attending to listen but she didn't kill Derek shepherd.
"Whoa whoa whoa hang on," Owen tried to jump in.
"No, Penny was just gonna tell me what happened," right."Amelia stared at the redhead with hate and grief and sadness in her eyes." How my brother died."
Pennys eyes searched around the room for someone to save her but no one was reaching out. She looked to Callie as she last saving grace but Callie couldn't be her girlfriend tonight after hearing she had some part in one of her close friends death.
"Wait so you knew about this," Jackson tried to whisper to Bailey as Amelia stared Penny down.
"No, I knew her name. That's all. Webber handles the residents. It was a mid term match,"Bailey told him.
"So she's going to be a resident with us," Jo asked?
"Come on," Stephanie tried to calm the situation.
"Penny what's she talking about," Callie sat down next to Penny.
"I tried to tell you," Penny spoke.
Callie shook her head trying to remember. " When, when did you ever?"
"Whenwe got here," Penny cut her off.
"Ueah so tell us now. Tell me what happened," Amelia cut in.
"Wait, Penny you don't have to," She couldn't be a girlfriend tonight but she didn't want to watch the girl get tortured about Derek.
"Can you and I talk?" Penny almost begged.
"That is a good idea actually. Why don't we give them some space, you guys.," Jackson said, just wanting this whole ordeal to end.
"No, no, no, no," Amelia practically yelled. "She was there.
"Can we just," Owen started.
"I wanna hear what happened," Amelia cut him off.
Did you make a mistake," She asked?
"Amelia," Callie tried to stop her.
"Tell me what happened," Amelia cried.
penny cleared her throat.
"I was the resident on call that night, in trauma. We were understaffed," Penny tried her best to keep her composure as everyone looked at her. "Five came in with him. And her husb- ," Penny started she was meant to use words like that to leave feels out of the situation but how could she when the man's sister was crying in front of her. "Your brother had flail chest."
Amelia shook her head. "My brother died of a brain bleed."
"no, there was a scalp laceration but no step off. He was bleeding into his chest. A choice was made to skip C.T. I thought he need one. I should've pushed harder."
Hell yeah you should've," Amelia spoke with a shaky voice.
"And," Penny sighed trying to show zero signs of emotion on her face." And then I was stuck waiting on a neuro attending who couldn't be bothered,"Penny stopped after realizing how her word choice sounded. She paused looked around to everyone,as she felt herself cry. She tried to suck it back in a continue but the words wouldn't form. "I just sound like I am making excuses for myself." She turned to Callie and laid her hand on top of Callie's. "I'm very sorry," She whispered but Callie just stared blankly back at her not knowing what to do or what to say. "I should just go," Penny was embarrassed enough as is and feeling enough shame but having Callie not stick up for her felt a bit worse. Big how could she this was a close friend of her as she just found out and if the role where reversed she sure she would hate Callie.
"Tell me the rest. Tell me all of it,"Amelia stood up to stop her from leaving.
"Amelia come on," Owen tried to calm her down.
She ignored Owen and talked directly to Penny. "I didn't get to see him. You saw him before he went into surgery, you where the last one to see him. You did."
"Amelia, that enough,"Callie tried to stop her.
But she just ignored her too. "Did he say anything to you. Before you killed him."
A collective gasp traveled around the room.
"Can you tell me what his last words where?" Amelia asked?
Callie realized her voice alone couldn't stop Amelia so she banged on the table. "That's enough."
"Get her out of my house," Amelia demanded before walking away.
"She's calling a cab, amd I need to talk to Meredith," Callie said.
"I don't think you should, just give her some space," Arizona suggested.
"I just need to say something," Callie insisted.
"So you need a ride," Arizona asked April.
"I can call a cab so go get your girl," April teased.
"She not my girl," Arizona gave an annoyed chuckle.
"Well Perfect Pennys out and Arizona is in," April chuckled in her tipsy stupor.
"You know I feel like we should get you to an aa meeting," Arizona joked?
"Shut up my marriage is ending," April smirked.
"My marriage ended I didn't go out and drink," Arizona replied.
"Yeah well you're pregnant so it's not okay if you did do that," April countered.
"Shut up," Arizona swatted her arm
"She closed the door in my face," Callie walked down the stairs surprised.
"Ok," Arizona said.
"Ok," Callie said.
The ride was silent except for Arizona occasional singing when a song she knew came on.
"This is my stop," Arizona said taking off her seatbelt.
"Ok," Callie said smiling.
"Okay," Arizona chuckled, confused.
"See you," Callie said.
Callie waited until Arizona was all the way into her house til she drove off. Callie's mood was lighter than usual. She blamed it on the baby, but she knew the real reason in the back of her head.
Callie threw her heels on the ground, dropping her coat on the ground feeling to lazy to put it on the rack. She plopped on the bed reminiscing about her day.
"Hey," Penny said getting into the bed with Callie.
"Jesus, you scared me,I think I need to put a cat bell on you," Callie joked.
"I have something I need to tell you," Penny said facing her.
"What," Callie sat up worried.
"I um I don't know if I'm going to be staying here," Penny said.
"What ," Callie asked?
"You know the pregmire grant um I think I'm going to applying for it. I know grant season is a few months away but I still think I should. If that dinner meant anything then I think I should," Penny rambled.
"Penny," Callie tried to stop her.
"No I know im not wanted. And Meredith grey shouldn't have to play nice with the doctor who was there the night her husband died," Penny shook her head.
"You are a resident, you where a resident with a snot nosed doctor who's ego was so big he couldn't take directions or even suggestions from some else. It is not your fault," Callie tried to be sympathetic.
"Then why does it feel like it?"Penny wondered.
"Honey I don't know," Callie started "But I do think I need some space from you for a while, so it would be great if you would go home."
"But you said I could stay until the ceiling was fixed," Penny almost whispered.
"I did but your apartment is still livable and I just need the space, Derek was a close friend I lived with him for months on end I just need some time. This isn't me breaking up with you this is me, needing time okay," Callie tried to reassure her. "Give me a week to just wrap my head around this I'll call."
"Alright,"Callie watched as Penny got up and left.
A/N: currently debating if I want to make this into a book/series even though I have enough. But I really want to make a part 2. Also this is unedited
