Song: Dust on the bottle

The only thing I would add is when it came to asking me to be your girlfriend." Aunt Greta teased Uncle Kiy. "Remember you went to Creole Williams' for that special bottle of wine?"

"Oh boy, that was a lesson in and of itself! Creole gave me a good bit of advice that day!"

"What advice was that?" asked Candice.

(1) Leaning back Kiy reminisced. "Creole Williams lived down the dirt road, he made homemade wine like nobody I know. I dropped by one Friday night and asked him to help me. I told him I had a girl waiting for me and I wanted to treat her right. He took me down to his wine cellar and that's when he gave me the advice. He said 'There might be a little dust on the bottle, but don't let that fool you about what's inside. There might be a little dust on the bottle but it's one of those things that gets sweeter with time.'"

Greta nodded. "You took those words to heart. I remember you were a bundle of nerves when you picked me up that day. And you barely spoke a word as you drove us down the lake road. But when you parked so we could watch the sunset you pulled out the wine and the first thing out of your mouth was 'Here's something special. It's been waiting for a night like tonight.'"

The adults laughed at the clumsy line Uncle Kiy had used all those years ago.

The couple told of that aquared night, complimented by wine that was used up before they really knew what had happened.

"We had to call his parents to come give us a ride so we didn't drive drunk." Greta added.

"But as we waited I finally got the courage to ask you to be my girlfriend." Kiy pointed out.

"Yes, you did! You even got on one knee, and I said yes right as your parents showed up. Boy was that inopportune timing."

That got everyone laughing as they imagined the scene and the teen Greta and Kiy awkwardly trying to explain themselves.

"But through it all, you and I are still together, and we made some memories. After all these years there is one thing I have found to be true. Good love is like fine wine, it keeps getting better as the days go by."

Greta beat him to what he was planning on saying next. "There might be a little dust on the bottle, but don't let that fool you about what's inside. There might be a little dust on the bottle but it's one of those things that gets sweeter with time."

The youngest of the family made faces at the gooey sentiment but all the others had to agree with the sound advice of that phrase.
