Nightmare - Epilogue Three
Nelson woke with a start; the scream was in his mind but not yet in his throat. He threw off the bedclothes and was on his feet crouching in a defensive stance in one smooth movement, fear sweat already running down his spine. "Who's there?" The words were out of his mouth before he even finished straightening up. He remembered running through the passageways of Seaview after crying out those same words when Lani appeared to him in the lab.
He drew a deep breath and rubbed the back of his arm over his forehead then rubbed the back of his neck. A dream. Would the evil dreams ever end?
He got back in bed, calmed his mind, closed his eyes. Consciously tried to relax. Suddenly his eyes snapped open. Lani had said that he would never see Captain Crane again. She was wrong. Lee was safely home in Santa Barbara right now. Lani had been wrong!
Lani had said that destroying the island would leave Krueger and her with no earthly tie. He didn't really know what that meant. Had assumed it meant Krueger and Lani were gone. She implied it. What if she was wrong?
What if he had freed them from the island to go somewhere else - together? Given them strength in numbers? Two phantoms loose in the world?
