The Tested Steadfast Heart
A young Yuzu bumps into Ankokuji "If you're going to fight in place of Yusho, then I'll be fighting for Strong Ishijima!" Ankokuji tells Yuzu. "Stop it!" A young Gongenzaka tells. "I, the man Gongenzaka, won't forgive bullying of the weak!" He states as he get in-between of Yuzu and Ankokuji. In the present, Gongenzaka was sitting cross-legged with steaming riceballs on his shoulders remembering his encounter with Ankokuji in his childhood. "My first opponent is my former disciple, Gen Ankokuji! Not only did he humiliate Yuzu, but he dissented the teachings of the Steadfast Dojo and left disgracefully!" Gongenzaka thinks. "I cannot lose this match!" Gongenzaka, getting fired up, claims. Mr. Gongenzaka throws open the Dojo doors "That's what I want to hear!" He proudly declares. "Father!" Gongenzaka exclaims. "Noboru! As you tighten this new sash, you must also temper and tighten your Steadfast spirit in preparation for this next battle!" Mr. Gongenzaka tells Gongenzaka as he holds out a black sash to him. Strapping the sash on in place of his white one "Understood!" Gongenzaka replies.
"Maiami Championship! A festival of Duellists and gateway to becoming a Pro Duelist! Now all of their burning feelings gather here!" An announcer describes as Yuzu sits outside. "After Yuya's victory yesterday, today is finally my turn! Gongenzaka, Sora and I will win and" Yuzu thinks. "Get to the next round!" She says out loud. A bald boy crashes into her and drops a white sash. "Ouch!" Yuzu groans."That's the young master's….Noboru Gongenzaka's sash for today's match!" The bald boy protest. "This is his…" Yuzu recognizes the sash, but a pink-haired boy with a Mohawk snatches up the sash and takes off. "Hold it!" Yuzu yells out sprinting off The rest of You Show Duel School were running along the corridor "Hurry up!" Ayu urges them. "Gongenzaka's match is going to start soon!" Futoshi urges them. "Huh? Where's Yuzu? She said she'd be waiting here…" Yuya looks around in confusion. "Over there!" Tatsuya gasps, pointing to see Yuzu and the bald boy chasing the pink-haired Mohawk. "Looks like she's chasing someone at full speed to me…" Sora observes. As she pursues the thief "Why is he taking Gongenzaka's sash?" Yuzu wonders. "He's probably one of Ankokuji's friends! They'll use any cowardly methods to win!" The bald boy explains. "Ankokuji!" Yuzu grits her teeth in anger. "You're young master Noboru's friend Hiragi, right? Don't you have a match soon as well?" The boy asks. "I can't let that stop me! Gongenzaka comes first! I'll get back his sash!" Yuzu replies. The bald boy smiles upon hearing that.
In the arena "My dear audience! Thank you for coming to see the even more exciting second day of the tournament!" Nico welcomes the audiences. "Now let's introduce our Duellists for our first match of the day!" He announces. "While he doesn't belong to any school, this Duellist qualified for the Junior Youth Championship with six-game win streak! Gen Ankokuji!" Nico introduces Ankokuji, who stomps into the arena and grins. "His opponent is the successor to the Steadfast Duelling style of the Gongenzaka Dojo, Noboru Gongenzaka!" Nico announce. Gongenzaka stands with his back to Ankokuji, baring his sash. "That's a nice sash you have there!" Ankokuji compliments. "Did you get that from your father?" He asks. "The master of our dojo gives us a new sash before a pivotal match! This is a tradition of the Gongenzaka Dojo" Gongenzaka reminds Ankokuji. Snickering "Well, I've taken a little advantage of that so-called tradition" Ankokuji comments. "What?" Gongenzaka raises his eyebrow in surprise. "Let's start off by selecting the Field Spell Card!" Nico suggests. "Now this match's Field is…This!" He states as the machine choose a Field Spell. "Now then without anymore delays, Action Field On! Field Spell:Calamity Cove, activate!" Nico declares. An island covered in dense forest appears, with Gongenzaka and Ankokuji standing in a clearing. "A dense forest, huh? What a coincidence. I'm sure your dear friend is inside of a forest right now, too…" Ankokuji remarks. "What was that?!" Gongenzaka asks, turning around in shock.
Yuzu and the bald boy reach a clearing, and the thief and two other boys step out of the trees. "An ambush?" Yuzu shocked. "What's wrong?" She asks in shock as the bald boy abandons her. "Idiot! You fell for it!" The bald boy calls her. "You're going to be keeping us company for a while" The thief tells Yuzu and Yuzu gasps in shock.
"You bastard! How could you do something so underhanded!?" Gongenzaka furiously and rudely yells at Ankokuji. "What's this? What happened to your unshakeable spirit?" The former pupil laughs, asking Gongenzaka. "You're already shaking with rage!" Ankokuji states. "That's all your so-called Steadfast spirit is worth" He comments. "Using any methods in order to win, that's what the truly strong do! That's why I cut my ties with the Gongenzaka Dojo!" Ankokuji states. "Damn you…" Gongenzaka cursed. "I wonder if Yuzu Hiragi is alright…?" Ankokuji sneers. Gongenzaka gasps. "If you want to save her, then you'd better hurry up and defeat me! Or are you going to spout some crap about your friend being more important than this match and surrender right now?" Ankokuji suggests. In the stands "Jeez, the match has already started! Where did Yuzu go off to?!" Yuya irritably phones Yuzu. "Yuya?" Yuzu answers. "Yuzu!" Yuya said. "Tell Gongenzaka not to worry!" Yuzu tells Yuya as she stands with her Duel Disk activated. "Let him know that I'll definitely get his sash back!" She tells him. "Huh? Sash?" Yuzu confused as Yuzu hangs up. Down in the stadium "On the honor of my dojo, I cannot surrender without a fight!" Gongenzaka declares. "Then struggle all you want!" Ankokuji tells him and they kick out at one another, sparring "Duelist locked in battle!" Gongenzaka chants. "Kicking against the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters! They storm thought this Field!" Ankokuji, blocking Gongenzaka's strike, yells. The Duelists push against one another "Behold! This is the newest…"Gongenzaka yells. "and greatest evolution of Duelling!" Ankokuji yells. "ACTION!" They both yell. "DUEL!" They, Yuzu and Ankokuji's friends yells.
"I'll be going first!" Ankokuji states. "I Summon Granite Battleguard from my hand!" He declares (ATK: 1000). "When this card is summoned successfully I can Special SummonBoulder Battleguard from my hand!" Ankokuji explains (ATK: 1200). "Now this is a throwback for me! These are the monster Strong Ishijima used!" Nico reacts with surprise. "I set one card and end my turn!" Anlokuji declares. "Now it's your turn! If you don't hurry, your friend will be beaten to a pulp!" He tells Gongenzaka. Gongenzaka grits his teeth and Yuya gasp in realization. "I was already planning to defeat you with one attack!" Gongenzaka retorts. "My turn!" He declares as he draws explosively. "When there are two or more monsters on my opponent's Field, I can Special Summon this card from my hand!" He states. "Come forth! Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji!" Gongenzaka declares (ATK: 800). "Big Waraji can be used as two Releases for an Advance Summon!" He explains. "I Releases Big Waraji in order to Advance Summon Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei in Defense Position!" Gongenzaka declares. As Big Benkei appears from a column of green light (DEF: 3500) "And it's here! Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei can be summoned in face-up Defense Position!" Nico explains. "And Big Benkei can also attack using its 3500 DEF!" Tatsuya excitedly recalls. "It can take out either of those Battleguards in one hit!" Ayu cheers. "Shivers!" Futoshi said. "But it looks like he won't be ending it on one attack, though" Sora points out. Meanwhile "What Ankokuji just said about his friend being beaten to a pulp…He couldn't be talking about Yuzu, could he?" Yuya wonders.
"When there are no Spell or Trap cards in my Graveyard: By sending one "Superheavy Samurai" monster to the Graveyard from my hand I can Special Summon this card!" Gongenzaka states as he discarded Superheavy Samurai Gigagloves. Ankokuji grunts. "I Special Summon the Level 2 Tuner Monster, Superheavy Samurai Trumpter!" Gongenzaka declares (DEF: 600). "Here it is, the Tuner Monster!" Ayu cheers. "He can Tune that with Big Benkei and…" Tatsuya said. "Do a Synchro Summon!" Ayu exclaims. "Naïve!" Ankokuji laughs. "Trap activate! Battleguard Sorcery!" He declares. "When I control a "Battleguard" monster and you control two or more monsters: I can take control of one of those monsters!" He explains. "What?!" Gongenzaka shocked. "I'll be taking Trumpter!" Ankokuji declares. Flaming pillars erupt around the Battleguards, who perform a tribal dance and clash their clubs, sending out a shockwave that takes control of Trumpter, who joins the Battleguards in their dance. "His monster got stolen!" Futoshi bemoans. "Now he can't do a Synchro Summon!" Tatsuya bemoans. Ankokuji laughs "I already researched that you won your way here using Synchro Summoning!" He explains. "Matches aren't only decided within the Field!" Ankokuji points out. Gongenzaka grits his teeth. "Anything could be happening outside of this Field right now" Ankokuji states. "If you don't hurry up and go, who knows what will happen to your beloved friend?" He tells Gongenzaka. "Damn it…Yuzu!" Gongenzaka utters and Yuya gasps. , "I'll be right there! Just you wait, Gongenzaka!" Yuzu urges him as she rides on Gita the Melodious Diva.
"Now! It's the second match of the Junior Youth Championship! Gongenzaka was aiming for a Synchro Summon with a Tuner Monster, Trumpter, but…Ankokuji has taken control of that key card!" Nico recaps, explaining. "Your so-called disciple is doing terrible!" Masumi comments to a frustrated Yaiba. "I didn't expect him to get his monster stolen like that!" Hokuto admits. "That little…! Is he trying to make me look bad?" Yaiba furiously asks. "I won't accept a loss!" He warns Gongenzaka. "If I don't hurry up, Yuzu will be…!" Gongenzaka tells himself, gritting his teeth. "Battle Phase! I attack Granite Battleguard with Big Benkei!" Gongenzaka declares. "I activate Boulder Battleguard's monster effect!" Ankokuji declares. "Once, during the Battle Phase: It can negate an attack directed at a "Battleguard" monster!" He explains , and the Battleguard spins its club to block the plume of fire that Big Benkei sent its way. "The attack got cancelled!" Ayu gasps. "Damn it!" Gongenzaka swears and slams his fist into the ground "I don't have time for this!" Gongenzaka roars. "Why is he panicking?" Yaiba wonders in concern. Yuya looks at Gongenzaka in worried and Gongenzaka grits his teeth in frustration. "What now? Are you frustrated? Are you panicking?" Ankokuji asks. "You got betrayed by your beloved monster and you don't know what's happening to your beloved friend! So of course you'd be panicking….I bet she's thinking that you've betrayed her right now! Even though she believed you'd come save her for sure, but you won't!" He sneers. "Damn it! Yuzu!" Gongenzaka yells out as he continues to punch the ground. "That's it! Suffer more! Panic even more! The more you panic, the more your spirit is sullied! Along with your Duelling" Ankokuji snickers, mentally urging Gongenzaka as he images Gongenzaka yelling Yuzu's name over and over again. "I'll prove to you right now how fragile Steadfast Duelling is!" He yells.
"Gongenzaka!" Yuya yells out, which caught both Gongenzaka and Ankokuji. "Believe in Yuzu!" He urges Gongenzaka. "Yuzu told me to tell you to not to worry about her! And that she'll definitely get your sash back and bring it to you!" Yuya explains. "Yuzu did…?" Gongenzaka surprised. "Yuzu isn't the same Yuzu as before! She can fight on her own!" Yuya reminds Gongenzaka. Gongenzaka's father leaps onto the fence beside Yuya "Noboru! Right now is the time for a Steadfast spirit! Believe in your friend as well as yourself!" He tells his son. "Father…" Gongenzaka whispers as those words reached him. Ankokuji laughs "So they got in contact with her?" He realizes. "It's so pitiful when that weakling acts like she's something else!" Ankokuji comments. "She is no longer…A weakling!" Gongenzaka declares as he rises to his feet, as Yuzu was still Duelling "I'll definitely get Gongenzaka's sash back!" She vows. "Yuzu will definitely come back!" Gongenzaka replies. "What?" Ankokuji confused. "Yuya is right! Yuzu isn't the same as she was three years ago!" Gongenzaka agrees with Yuya. "Gongenzaka…" Yuya whispers. Ankokuji grits his teeth. "Now that I know Yuzu's resolve, my spirit will waver no more! I will follow my Duelling ways!" Gongenzaka declares, and kanji reading "Steadfast as a Mountain" appear around him. "That's it, go, go, Gongenzaka! Burning! Hot-blooded!" Shuzo excited, cheers. "Even if you say "Go, go!"…" Sora points out. "I end my turn with this!" Gongenzaka declares. "Huh? Really?" Shuzo confused. "Because he can't attack anymore!" Sora points out. "I believe in you, Yuzu!" Gongenzaka vows. "So you follow your Duelling ways as well!" He urges her. Yuzu was seen again "Ladies and Gentlemen! It's showtime!" She declares. HerDiva Tokens dance above her on a rainbow "Behold! This is the Entertainment Duelling directly inherited from Yusho Sakaki!" Yuzu proudly presents and Ankokuji's friends clap. "Amazing!" The pink-haired boy cheers. "That was awesome!" the bald-boy cheers. Yuzu politely bows. Back at the Duel, Ankokuji slams his foot into the ground "Believe in her?! People betray others! Just like your monsters betrayed you!" He incensed at Gongenzaka.
"My turn!" Ankokuji declares and draws Shaman Battleguard. Holding the card up "I Release all three of my monsters and…Special Summon Shaman Battleguard from my hand!" He declares, who appears cackling and dancing (ATK: 2000). Ayu screams in terror. "What the heck is that?" Tatsuya asked in terror. "It's creepy enough to give me the shivers!" Futoshi scared. "Level 10 with only 2000 ATK…? I bet thias one's got something to it…" Sora interested. Yuya looked worried "Gongenzaka…" He thinks. "Here we go! I activate Shaman Battleguard's monster effect!" Ankokuji declares. "Once per turn, I can take control of an opponent's monster!" He explains. "The monster I'll be taking control of is, of course, Big Benkei!" Ankokuji declares, and Shaman Battleguard sends out a shockwave that takes control of Big Benkei. Ayu gasped in horror. "This time Big Benkei…!" Tatsuya horrified. "Got taken!" Futoshi horrified. "There is nothing worth believing in this world!" Ankokuji yells. "Realize that as you take Big Benkei's attack!" He suggested to Gongenzaka. "Battle Phase! I make a direct attack with Big Benkei!" Ankokuji declares. "Look out!" Ayu and Futoshi scream in horror. "If he takes Big Benkei's attack head-on like that…!" Tatsuya exclaim in horror, and Gongenzaka takes the blast full on, howling in agony as it pushes him, still standing, through the trees and onto a cliffside. He stops inches from the edge and drops to his knees (Gongenzaka's LP: 500). "That one must have hurt! 3500 damage all at once!" Nico comments. "Are you all right, Gongenzaka?!" Shuzo asks. "Gongenzaka…" Yuya worried. "It hurts to watch this…" Masumi sympathetically admits. "He's only got a mere 500 LP remaining…" Hokuto observers. "You bastard! You better not embarrass me!" Yaiba snaps at Gongenzaka. Ankokuji walks up laughing "So you managed to stop yourself at the edge of the cliff?" He comments. "This next attack is game over!" Ankokuji states. As Gongenzaka get up "Standing up is a waste of time! You're going to take Shaman Battleguard's attack and plunge into the ocean behind you! No matter how much you believe in her, your friend isn't coming!" Ankokuji tells him. "Yuzu will come! I believe it!" Gongenzaka yells. "Then go ahead and believe all you want!" Ankokuji tells him. "Battle Phase! I attack Gongenzaka directly with Shaman Battleguard!" He declares. "Finish him!" He orders Shaman Battleguard. "At this moment, I banish Superheavy Samurai Gigagloves from my Graveyard!" Gongenzaka declares. "I draw a card from my Deck, and if that card is a "Superheavy Samurai" monster, I can make my opponent's monster's ATK 0!" He explains. Time seems to slow as Gongenzaka readies himself to draw, his friends gasp "Come!" Gongenzaka said and he draws explosively, getting Superheavy Samurai Soulbuster Gauntlet "Got it!" He exclaims. Flames envelop Gongenzaka's fist and he raises it "I believe in Yuzu!" He yells. Gongenzaka brings his hand down as the ATK of Shaman Battleguard decrease to zero (Shaman Battleguard's ATK: 0) "Yuzu will definitely…come!" Gongenzaka yells, and karate chops through the spike on the side of the skull-hand of Shaman Battleguard. The broken spike slices through Gongenzaka's sash as Shaman Battleguard leaps away. "No matter what happens, my spirit that believes in my friends will never be shaken!" Gongenzaka declares. The crowd cheer "That was amazing! With his back to a sheer drop-off, he's dodged his opponent's final attack by a hair's breadth!" Nico praises Gongenzaka. Ankokuji scoffs "You just got lucky, that's all" He claims. "But as long as I have Big Benkei here, you can't attack Shaman Battleguard because of its effect! Also, Shaman Battleguard can only take control of one monster, but if you happen to Summon a stronger monster than Big Benkei next turn, he can swap Big Benkei for that one!" Ankokuji warns Gongenzaka. "So basically, you have no way to win!" He states. "I end my turn here!" Ankokuji declares.
Gongenzaka looks down at his torn sash that this father gave him for this battle "The sash that my father gave me for this battle…" He said. Yuzu was running down the hallway. "But that is not what I need right now!" Gongenzaka states. Yuzu continues to run towards the area. "What I need now is…" Gongenzaka thinks. "Gongenzaka!" He hears Yuzu's voice calling his name, and Yuzu stands proudly at the top of the bleachers, holding Gongenzaka's white sash. "Yuzu!" Yuya and Shuzo call her name. "Yuzu!" The kids call out. "You're here?" Gongenzaka comments. "Sorry for the wait!" Yuzu apologizes. "Catch this!" She yells and tosses Gongenzaka's sash to him. Gongenzaka catches the sash "Yuzu! I've gotten the sash from you!" He declares. As Gongezaka put his sash on "I believed. And you came! This is now my sash for victory!" He states. Ankokuji grits his teeth. "My turn!" Gongnezaka declares and draws Superheavy Samurai Battleball. "I summon the Level 2 Tuner Monster, Superheavy Samurai Battleball, from my Hand!" Gongenzaka declares (ATK: 100). "A Tuner!?" Ankokuji scoffs. "Without any other monsters, it's just fodder!" He points out. "Battleball can perform a Synchro Summon using a Machine-type monster on my opponent's Field!" Gongenzaka replies. "What?!" Ankokuji shocked. "I Tune the Level 8 Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei on your field with my Level 2 Battlerball!" Gongenzaka declares. "Raging deity, in unison with the roar of a thousand blades' souls, come forth in a spiralling sandstorm! Synchro Summon! Now, come before us! Level 10! Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo!" He chants (DEF: 3800). "He did it! A Synchro Summon!" Yaiba cheers. "Alright!" Shuzo cheers. "Next, I equip Superheavy Samurai Soulbuster Gauntlet to Susanowo from my hand!" Gongenzaka declares. "It increase its DEF by 400!" He states ( Susanowo's DEF: 4200). "D-don't tell me just like Big Benkei, it can…." Ankokuji realizes in shock. "That's right! I can attack using its DEF!" Gongenzaka confirms. "Let's go! Battle Phase! Susanowo, attack Shaman Battleguard!" He declares. "Right now, Shaman Battleguard has 0 ATK thanks to Gigagloves' effect!" Tatsuya realizes. "Susanowo has 4200, so that means…!" Ayu realizes. "He'll end it with one attack" Sora confirms. "SHIVERS!" Futoshi exclaims. "Kusanagi Sword Slash!" Gongenzaka orders Susanowo , cutting the Battleguard down and wiping out Ankokuji's LP (Ankokuji's LP: 0).
"The first Junior Youth Championship match victory of the day goes to Gongenzaka!" Nico announces and Gongenzaka walks away. "He finally won…Making me sweats like that" Yaiba signs in relief. Gongenzaka walks over to Yuzu "I believed that you would come, Yuzu" He tells her. "And I believed that you definitely would win, Gongenzaka" Yuzu replies and shaking his hand. "Yuzu!" The kids called out as they, Yuya, Shuzo and Yoko runs over to them. "We were worried about you! Where did you go?" Futoshi asks Yuzu. "Sorry, sorry! I'm up next, so I'll do my best so I don't fall behind Gongenzaka!" Yuzu apologizes, reassuring them. "Next up, we have our second match of the day! You Show Duel School's Yuzu Hiragi vs Leo Duel School's Shingo Sawatari!" Nico announces. "I'm off!" Yuzu declares as she heads onto the field.
