Chapter 10: Campaign For Disarmament
Not too long after the first APC was taken out, they were all taken out. When the lieutenants and their men became conscious, they were taken in Commissioner Gordon's custody and placed in the lockup cells down at the GCPD. That's where our heroes were right now as the original Dynamic Duo were in their car while the Robin Hood of Star City was perched right above them. "Man, I really got to get my own special car. My legs are killing me following that huge tank of yours around all night.", Arrow said. "You try to do that, and I'll sue you for copyright.", Batman teased in a dark way. "See, Dick. I have a sense of humor.", Batman told his former sidekick. "Oh, yes you do.", Nightwing said. Out of the sky then came an aerial drone that was carrying some kind of spherical device. It dipped down towards the street ahead of them, planted the device into the road, and flew away. "What the hell is that?", Arrow asked as he and the other two observed what had just happened. "Let's go take a look.", Batman said as he drove towards the device. Arrow leaped across a few rooftops until he was once again right above Gotham's heroes and the device they were investigating. Batman got Alfred on his screen and began to speak with him. "Alfred, the militia have deployed a device. It's burrowed deep into the road.", Batman said. "Yes, I see it on the Batmobile's dashboard camera. Similar devices are being planted across the city.", Alfred said. "We'll investigate and keep you informed.", Batman told Alfred as he got off the line. Batman and Nightwing got out of the car and went over to inspect this thing in the road. He bent down to get a better look and could hear it making some kind of beeping or ticking noise. His suit did a scan of the thing and the results were not pretty to discover. "What is it?", Arrow asked. "This isn't good.", Batman said. "I don't like the sound of that.", Nightwing responded after Batman said that. Batman got Alfred back on the line using his gauntlet and began to speak. "It's a bomb, Alfred. A well-armored one.", Batman said. "Oh dear! In that case, sir, should you really be standing quite so close?", Alfred asked with concern. "I'm going to set up a remote link to the Batmobile and hit it with every virus we've got. Once we're hacked in, I can expose the core and defuse it with a controlled explosion.", Batman said as he placed a small device in the shape of a bat on the center of the bomb that would upload the necessary virus. "Very good, sir. Though I should warn you that Deathstroke's men have sent a sizable platoon of its unarmed tanks to stop you.", Alfred warned. "They won't.", Batman said as he got off. "Get in the car, Dick. Oliver, put those arrows to good use on these drones. Hit right in the center and that should do it for each one.", Batman told his allies. "All ready.", Arrow said as he got his bow ready. Batman and Nightwing got back in the car just in time as drones rushed to the scene. A commander of the militia began to communicate with Slade and said, "As you predicted, sir, he's trying to defuse the device. The drones you requested have been deployed.". Blow that car straight to Hell and protect the bomb at all costs!", Slade ordered his commander. "I know, sir! I'll stop him dead!", the commander said. Drones began to throw everything the got at the Batmobile. The car got into its battle tank mode and began to fire its own weapons at the drones. At the same time, Green Arrow was firing his arrows straight into weak spots of each and every one which was enough for them to explode. This caught the attention of the other drones which began to fire at Arrow above, but went back to the Batmobile which was also attacking them. Green Arrow ducked out of the way every time the drones tried to shoot at him. "These stupid things have terrible aim. Luckily, I barely ever miss my target.", Arrow said. It was an all-out battle of missiles, rounds, and arrows for a while before all the drones were destroyed and the bomb was safe to destroy. "The bomb's payload is exposed. I can use the power winch to trigger a controlled explosion.", Batman said. Batman did just that as he activated the power winch which hooked onto the bomb and triggered the explosion that destroyed it. Deathstroke patched in and began to talk once more. "I see even that car of yours has its own toys. You never cease to amaze me how resourceful you are. That's something you and Arrow have in common. I can imagine that's also where Nightwing learned to be the way he is.", he said. "Your soldiers and drones have barely laid a scratch on me, my friends, or my car. Why don't you quit while you can and we might take it easy on you.", Batman warned. "They're just drones, Dark Knight. When you face me, you'll have to cope with a manned machine.", Slade said as he got off the line. "I have a feeling we're nearing the end of this.", Batman said. "I hope so. I'm tired of dealing with all these soldiers, drones, and bombs. I'm ready to go after Slade.", Nightwing said. "First, we need to take care of these bombs.", Batman said. He got in touch with Alfred again to get an update on the current situation. "Alfred, give me the locations of where the militia have planted the other bombs.", Batman said. "Right away, sir. I just uploaded them to your map. But Deathstroke will no doubt send more drones to each location once you've begun to upload the virus.", Alfred said. "I know he will, and I'll be ready.", Batman said and got off the call. "We need to hit each and every one of these bombs before we do anything else.", Batman said. "Yay, more crazy drones.", Arrow said sarcastically before they started making their way to all the other bombs in the road.
