So I have had this character in the back of my mind for a long time, but this is the first time that I am writing her story. I hope to flesh her out more in this retelling of the Yugioh series.
I hope you follow along with me on this journey.
I don't own Yugioh only my OC and my design of the Millennium Bracelet.
Please read and review.
Destiny is Strange.
It was the end of the school day and Yugi was up on top of the school roof looking out at the city and the slowly setting sun. He wondered to himself how this all started how could Grandpa actually be gone? He was there one moment and then Pegasus stole his soul? He still couldn't believe that he was gone. He wondered why, why him? Was it to do with his puzzle? Yugi was unsure, sighing he decided to walk home. He had decided that no matter what he was going to get Grandpa back.
Outside a small apartment Joey had received a package. Picking it up he looked it over to see if there was any indication who it was from, finding nothing he held it close and put his hand on the doorknob he took in a deep breath and turned the handle. He wasn't surprised to find it unlocked to he continued to slowly and quietly open the door. Finally getting it open he listened for a moment and heard loud snoring sighing he peeked his head in he saw his dad passed out on the sofa empty beer bottles surrounding the sofa and on the coffee table which was were his dad's feet where, still wearing his thick heavy army boots, no doubt ready to kick Joey, when he got up that is. Joey quietly shut the door and walked to his room, making sure he didn't step on any of the creaky floorboards which would wake his dad up and send him in a rage.
Getting into his room he shut the door then sat down with the parcel. He noticed that it was a blank video tape.
"Wonder who this is from" he muttered to himself curiously. He then turned on his TV and put the video in the video player. A second later the image of a young girl with long reddish brown hair and dark gray eyes appeared on the screen She was smiling and waved.
"Hey there big brother, how have you been? I really miss you." She said with a smile on her face.
"Serenity?" Joey asked himself he hadn't seen his sister in ages, why was he hearing from her now?
"I can't believe it's been six years since we've seen each other. I'll never forget the day mum took me to live with her." She said a little sadly.
Joey didn't either his mum had gotten fed up of his dad's gambling addiction and abusive behaviour that she decided to move out, she was unable to take Joey with her so chose to take Serenity as she would need specialist treatment. Both Joey and Serenity cried that day, Serenity screamed from the car hitting the window with her small hands and Joey running after the car pleading with his mum and sister to not go. But the car continued to move and Joey running out of breath fell to his knees watching the black car driving away.
"I'm sending you this video just so you don't forget your little sisters face, it's seems like I'm running out of time, I was hoping to see you once more before" she trailed off closing her eyes to stop the tears from coming. "Well you understand bye bye brother."
"Run out of time?" Joey asked himself in disbelief his face crestfallen as he continued to watch his little sister "it can't be."
"So long take care Joey" Serenity said before the screen went to static. Joey sat in disbelief for a moment before closing his eyes trying to keep his composure.
"Serenity" he muttered sadly to himself, how could he help her? He was her big brother and yet he felt useless, unable to do anything for her.
About an hour later Yugi had slowly walked home he saw a bright white envelope sticking out of the side of the door frame clearly whoever put it there made sure that it could be easily found. Yugi quickly looked around to see if anyone was nearby who would have dropped it off, seeing no one he reached out and took the envelope. It had no indication who it was from or even who for but Yugi had a feeling that it was for him, with trembling fingers her turned it over and opened it finding four duel monster cards. Taking one out and turning it over to see what was on the card. Be saw a picture of a. Island with a castle in the middle Yugi was reminded of the fairy tale books him and Claire would look at. The title was called Duelist Kingdom. The card details said "This card is your formal invitation to the Duelist Kingdom."
"It's from Pegasus" he said to himself before entering the game shop, going to the bag of the shop Yugi opened the door in the corner that went up to the living quarters. At the top of the stairs he found his mum who had been pacing back and forth and Claire sitting on the sofa.
"Yugi! Where have you been?" his mum asked before hugging him "Claire and I have been so worried" she continued as she pulled back.
"Sorry mum, it's...hard, without Grandpa" Yugi admitted as he looked up at his mum in her grey eyes. His mum saw that Yugi's eyes showed his hurt and confusion but behind that was a determination. She saw the cards in his hands and saw one of them with a ship her heart sinking a little as she knew what he was going to do.
"I know, it is but we'll figure this out." She said mustering a small smile for her son, Yugi nodded and walked out of the room, the woman sighed and sat down next to Claire who cuddled up to the older woman, her mum put her arm around Claire before speaking. "Claire I hate to ask, but can I ask you to do something?" Claire looked up at her mum before speaking.
"Yeah mum?" She asked.
"He's going to go to that Duellist Kingdom tournament, please go with him, I don't want him to be alone, he'll need you." She said looking down at the young girl that she considered her daughter.
"But what about you?" Claire asked sitting up slightly "who's going to watch the game shop?"
"I can do that, Yugi will need you more than little old me." Her mum said with a smile. Claire didn't speak for moment she needed to go, she had to, maybe she could even figure out what was going on. She then nodded at her mum.
"Ok I will."
The next day at school Yugi showed his friends the cards and explained what they mean.
"A tournament at Duellist Kingdom?" Téa asked "where's that?"
"I don't know but the ship is leaving in a few days from Domino Pier at 7pm" Yugi said as he looked at the cards on the table.
"So that's where Pegasus is keeping your Grandpa's soul?" Joey asked making sure he had got it right.
"Maybe, but the only way to be sure is to become a contestant." Yugi explained as he looked over at the card with the ship on it this card was called Voyage to the Kingdom.
"You can't go Yugi! It could be dangerous" Téa said with a shake of her head worry filling her eyes Yugi looked up at her.
"I have to go, it's the only clue that I have on how to save my Grandpa." He said as he put the card down.
"I still can't believe it Pegasus used some kind of weird spell to grab your Grandpa's soul away." Tristan said with a shake of his head it still felt unreal. "And now he's toying with you forcing you to play his game." Tristan looked at the five cards laying out on the desk.
'Yeah and without an invitation we can't go with you." Joey said he, the friends felt a little stuck. "I wish we could help ya pal."
"Hey check this out, according to the card the winner gets a cash prize of three million yen!" He exclaimed as he picked up the card that had a picture of a large stash of coins.
"Tristan now is not the time to be thinking about money." Claire said with a slightly annoyed sigh.
"Claire's right, who cares about the money at a time like this?" Yugi asked looking at his friend who was sitting across from him. Unbeknownst to the group someone was interested in the money.
"Hey gimme that!" Joey exclaimed as he quickly snatched the card out of Tristan's hand and held it tightly staring at the card, this would really help.
"I guess Joey does" Yugi said a little forlorn that his friend seemed to care about the money.
Later that day Joey was sitting on the roof top of the school that prize money still on his mind, he was starting to formulate a plan to get to that island.
"Joey? What are you doing up here?" Yugi asked a little surprised to see his friend on the roof. Joey looked up at Yugi with a questioning hum. "What's with you?"
"Ah nothing, I'm just thinking about a whole lot of stuff, Yugi you do know that I care for your Gramps right?" Joey asked, this made Yugi blink in surprise, where was Joey going with this? "I mean he's the one that taught me about Duel Monsters and the Heart of the Cards." This made Yugi smile slightly.
"Of course I know" he said looking his friend in the eye.
"I mean it! One way or another I'll help you beat Pegasus" Joey declared. This made Yugi nod thankful that he had such good friends.
"That really means a lot to me Joey, I'm glad we're friends." Yugi said as he went and sat next to Joey, getting himself comfortable.
"Remember the first time we met?" Joey asked.
"How could I forget? It was only six months ago and all because of the Millennium Puzzle. The way Grandpa explained it to me the puzzle was originally found in some Egyptian ruin." Yugi explained thinking about the long hard years it took him to solve it and then that fateful night it seemed like it suddenly made sense on how the pieces fitted together. "Grandpa gave it to me and dared me to solve it, it was the most incredible thing that I had ever seen as soon as I touched it I knew it was special, I made a wish on the puzzle I asked it to give me a friend, and I think it came through for me, I then met you and Tristan although you sure didn't act like my friends at first." Yugi said with a chuckle thinking back to that time.
"You mean when we were playing keep away with the Millennium Puzzle?" Joey asked before his face fell to a more sombre expression. "To be honest I always felt a little bit angry when I saw you tinkering away at it, I always thought to be a proper man you had to be tough and not playing with some silly puzzle, but you never fought back and it pissed me off even more."
"A little?" Yugi asked "you took a piece of my Millennium Puzzle and threw it out the window! And I was the one who stood up to that bully, calling himself my bodyguard." Yugi exclaimed. Both Yugi and Joey remembered how Ushio had told Yugi that he had taken care of his bullies and that he wanted payment but Yugi stood in front of Joey and Tristan.
"No I didn't want this, I don't want this!" Yugi remembered himself saying Ushio beat him up and demanded that he have two hundred thousand yen by the next day after that Yugi's memory of the night was a little fuzzy he remembered counting his money and not having enough and finishing the Millennium Puzzle only to be dismayed that the final piece wasn't there this was when Grandpa came in the room and handed it to him and after putting the piece in he remembered nothing.
"Yeah and the next morning everyone found Ushio rolling in the leaves and rubbish on the floor claiming that it was all his!" Joey exclaimed as he shook his head "and then I said to you what is something you can show but can't see. You didn't get it so I told you that it was our friendship." Yugi nodded his head smiling at the memory, he couldn't believe that it was only a few months ago that all happened yet Yugi wouldn't I'm changed it for the world. "The truth of the matter is, you're the best friend I ever had."
"Yeah" Yugi said happily before his face fell and he looked down at the floor. "It's too bad you can't go with me to Duellist Kingdom." Yugi said a little upset and worried about going alone.
"Don't worry some how some way we'll do it together" Joey said confidently, he still didn't know about the how bit just yet but he had a plan forming in his mind. Hearing this Yugi looked up at Joey hopefully.
"Together?" he asked.
"You bet, we're a team Yugi" Joey said.
"But how can you go without an invitation?" Yugi asked, unfortunately for him Joey didn't give him an answer so Yugi dropped it.
Outside of the school gates Claire sighed and adjusted her backpack to sit more comfortably on her shoulders, she had to think of a way to get on that ship without being spotted.
"Claire!" A voice called out to her, causing the young girl to turn her head, seeing her friends Téa and Tristan running to catch up with her.
"Hey, what's the hurry?" Claire asked as she turned to face them properly.
"Well Yugi's going to go to the Duellist Kingdom and we want to go with him, cheer him on and give him some company. Are you going too?" Téa explained as she and Tristan stopped in front of Claire. Claire smiled slightly, how did her and Yugi end up with such loyal friends?
"Yes I am thinking of sneaking onto the ship to get to the island to be there for Yugi." Claire said "if you guys are planning on going too then we can all sneak on together." Claire explained as she looked up at the two. Téa and Tristan smiled and nodded they agreed to pack light and have a few snacks for the boat ride there.
The next few days were spent meticulously planning how they were going to get on the boat and what they were going to do once on, they decided that they were going to sneak into the cargo hold, find a good place to hide while the ship is loading and then get to the upper deck and blend in with everyone else on board. So with the plan set they then decided on a time and place to meet. The three tried to tell Joey about their plan but he insisted that he had an idea of his own.
It was six o'clock and the Pier was busy with the guards packing crates into the boat Téa, Tristan and Claire found the perfect time to get onto the boat when the two guards who were left dealing with the crates were distracted, slipping behind some large crates at the back the friends sat down with a sigh of relief now all they have to do is wait.
At quarter to seven the pier had a large crowd, forty people had showed up, all clearly hopeful to win this tournament. One of the guards standing on the boat spoke.
"Attention all Duellists, welcome to this event hosted by Industrial Illusions!" A big guard with his hair slicked forward into a point announced. "You received with your invitation the star chips which will grant you into the contest, you are all elite and therefore picked after close observation of your past Duel Monsters contests, you each have a fair and equal chance to win, it all comes down to how well you've chosen your cards and how well you play. Now Duellists cross the ocean and enter the Duellist Kingdom!" He finished his speech and with that everyone was filled into a line to board the boat everyone had to show their star chips before boarding the boat. Yugi was waiting in line when he overheard a commotion.
"Hey you! Get out of here only official Duellists are allowed on board." One of the guards had caught someone trying to sneak on.
"How do you know I'm not official?" This made Yugi stop and look up, was that? No it couldn't possibly be.
"Because official Duellists aren't trying to sneak on board through the lower hatches!" The guard said Yugi finally saw what was going on Joey was being dragged by two of the guards, and he was still struggling to try and get free.
"Joey? What the?" Yugi asked himself before running over.
"Stop your struggling, we're going to have to throw you out!" the other guard told Joey sternly.
"No way I'm here to duel and I'm gonna duel" Joey argued back. Yugi got to the guards holding Joey at this point and stopped in front of them.
"Leave him alone!" Yugi exclaimed causing the tree to look at him.
"Hey Yugi" Joey said casually hoping that Yugi will be able to get him out of this mess.
"What are you doing here Joey?" Yugi was surprised but also a little grateful to see his friend.
"Did you really think I'd let you do this on your own?" Joey asked, causing Yugi to look at Joey questionably. "Help me out?" Joey asked, realisation dawning on Yugi's face as Joey said this Yugi then smiled and nodded.
"He's with me! You got to let him on" Yugi said with as much confidence as he could.
"Only people with a star chip can get on board, there are no exceptions. Do you understand?" One of the guards snapped not wanting to deal with these kids.
"But Joey has a star chip" Yugi said with a slight smile. "Didn't he tell you?" He asked a little cheekily.
"I do?" Joey asked in surprise a little surprised, what was Yugi going to do? Yugi then held out his arm with a closed fist, Joey pulled one of his arms free from the guard and put his hand under Yugi's he felt a small, cool with little points. Yugi removed his hand and there was one of Yugi's star chips. Joey stared in shock at it. "What's this?" He asked more to himself than to Yugi.
"According to this card a star chips proof that one is a Duellist." Yugi explained holding up his card that had the glove and star chips around it.
"That maybe but all participants are given two star chips, you'll be at a disadvantage." The guards where trying to find something to discourage Yugi but he was set on this, he wanted his friend there with him.
"Maybe" Yugi agreed "but I'd rather take that risk than be without my friend when we get to the Duellist Kingdom. I need him."
"What do we do?" The guards looked at each other for a moment before one pulled out their phone, he walked away while he failed a number. He then put the phone to his ear when the phone stopped ringing and he knew that the person he was ringing picked up the phone he said "Sir we have a problem."
"I told you not to call me" Pegasus's smooth calm voice which showed he was annoyed at the disturbance which made the guard gulp slightly. "What is it?"
"The boy Yugi he is giving his star chip to someone else so they can go to the island too." He explained quickly.
"Oh Yugi boy! Let him do what he wants, he is a special guest." Pegasus said before putting the phone down. The guard sighed as he put the phone back in his pocket and went back to the others waiting.
"You can both board" he said grimly making the friends smile and decided to run to the line before the guard changed his mind.
Once on the boat Yugi and Joey found a place to watch Domino slowly disappear as the boat moved away.
"I'm glad they let you on board Joey" Yugi said happily has he looked up at his friend, thankful he was able to get Joey on board.
"Only because you gave me one of your star chips for me, but if the other players finds out that we only have one star chip each they could really try to take advantage of us." Joey said quite loudly.
"Then be quiet about it" Yugi whispered, shaking his head at his friend. The boys didn't realise that there was someone listening in to their conversation. An older woman with long blonde hair and violet eyes, she smirked as she heard this and walked over to the two.
"Well what do we have here?" she asked once she was standing behind them. The boys turned around to see a woman wearing a white corset top, a purple jacket and a matching purple mini skirt with thigh high purple boots she was carrying a large bag. Joey noticed how pretty she was and his jaw dropped.
"Wow" Joey breathed out as he blushed.
"So you're the Yugi kid everyone's talking about?" The woman asked not paying attention to Joey. "But I'm amazed that a squirt like you could beat Kaiba, your famous you know" she said the last part in a slightly lower tone causing Yugi to blush, not sure what to do with the woman's breasts right at his eye level he tried to keep his eyes on her face.
"Thanks very much, I think" he blurted out really trying not to look down knowing if he did his face would heat up.
"Hey Miss I'm a really good friend of the famous Yugi The Master Duellist, in fact" before Joey could continue though the woman cut him off as she looked up at him with annoyance.
"Look! You're a champ or a chump, cut this guy loose he's fashion challenged and deserved to be crushed in the games" she said before walking off leaving the two boys a little overwhelmed and blushing hard.
"Please crush me" Joey said causing the woman to stop and smirk at the two.
"I'll crush you all eventually, the names Mai" and with that she continued to walk off.
Claire had her face in the palm of her hand in dismay at the fact that Yugi and Joey were so easily distracted by a pretty woman with big boobs.
"How arrogant!" Téa exclaimed "no one is better at playing Duel Monsters than Yugi" Téa said wanting to defend Yugi against the woman but Tristan held her back and put a finger to his lips. And made a shushing sound. As the people on board were pretty close as they began to file inside of the ship.
"Téa they'll hear you" he whispered.
"I don't care he's still the best" Téa said firmly crossing her arms in defiance.
After a few moments inside Yugi, Joey and the other contestants realised that there were no beds just one big communal space. The other contestants shrugged it off as it was only going to be one night on the ship but Joey felt very annoyed and decided to voice his complaints.
"Hey is this a joke or what?!" He snapped at one of the guards "this is a luxury cruiser, I know you got better rooms somewhere." Joey was then grabbed roughly by one of the other guards who heard the shouting and came over.
"You again?! We cut you a break and now you're causing more trouble?" He asked sternly as they grabbed Joey's arms. "Do you wanna get thrown out of here?"
"Hey aren't you that kid Yugi?" A raspy voice said from the door causing Yugi and Joey to look over and see Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood standing in the doorway.
"Yeah and you're" Yugi got cut off by Joey before he could finish his sentence.
"Weevil and Rex the Dino Duellist!" Joey exclaimed as he stared at the two.
"You're wasting your time with those guys, only the finalists from the last tournament get private rooms" Rex boasted with a snigger "like us."
"Congratulations on winning the regionals Weevil" Yugi said as he walked a little closer to the two.
"It was nothing" Weevil shrugged it off as if Yugi was simply talking about the weather.
"Yeah I went easy on him, that time" Rex also seemed uninterested about coming second in the regional championship. This comment caused Weevil to scowl at Rex for a second before turning back to Yugi.
"Yeah? Well this time Yugi and I are gonna take the tournament, right Yugi?" Joey asked as he muscled his way out of the two guards grip.
"To tell you the truth, winning the last tournament didn't really feel much like an achievement." Weevil said "I guess I can't really call myself the champion until I defeat the Duellist who beat Kaiba." He continued with a small shrug. Hearing this made Yugi blink for a second "but I'm sure I'll end up battling you in the tournament Yugi and frankly I look forward to it." Weevil adjusted his glasses slightly as he grinned at Yugi.
"I look forward to it too" Yugi agreed with a smile.
"I'm looking forward to some Dino demolition." Rex also grinned turning his head away slightly.
"Let me tell you a little secret, it's something none of the other players know about the games yet" Weevil dropped his voice a little lower and stepped closer to Yugi.
"But isn't that cheating?" Yugi asked quietly he didn't the to get in trouble if he heard this information.
"The other Duellists will find out soon enough, but there are new rules on the island that require more strategy" Weevil explained vaguely not wanting to give away the information he found out to an opponent.
"Rules at for wimps in duelling you either smash your opponent or get smashed yourself. It's one or the other" Rex said confidently.
"Strength is good" Joey agreed "but you also need to combine them with other types of cards." He continued.
"Who asked you? Stay out of my way!" Rex dismissed Joey and turned and began to walk away. "Or I'll stomp you like everyone else."
"We'll see who stomps who when we get to the island" Joey grumbled as he got annoyed with Rex's attitude.
"Ignore him and let's scope out the competition." Weevil suggested making Joey turn to him.
"What do you mean?" Joey asked looking at Weevil slightly confused.
"Look over there" he said as he pointed to the communal area "the downside of having a private room is that I won't get as much opportunity to look at the others cards and get a feel for their strategy, some are also trading." Weevil explained as they looked over seeing others sitting in small groups trading cards. "They're swapping their cards and strengthening their decks for the big tournament, while some are just trying to learn about their opponents strengths and weaknesses before even beginning a Duel."
Yugi stared in realisation, so this was how Weevil gets his insight on his opponent's strategy, quite the useful thing to know. He then saw Joey practically hoping from group to group looking at all the cards and even getting a few trades in.
"I guess Joey's trading" Yugi said quietly as he watched the speed of his friend.
"If you've come all this way and you're still trying to improve your deck you've got to be pretty desperate." Weevil sniggered before turning to walk away "I'll catch you on the flip side."
Just outside of the main communal area Rex was just about to walk up the stairs to go into his private room but stopped as he heard an upset sounding woman and turned to see what was the matter.
"This is truly, truly outrageous!" The female declared to one of the guards, turns out it was Mai who had spoken to Yugi and Joey not even ten minutes ago she marched up to the guard causing him to step back but Mai kept up with him. "You expect a lady like me to stay in this dump without even a shower?" She demanded.
"Rules are rules ma'am there's nothing I can do" the guard said feeling a little intimidated by this bold woman.
"Call your superior! Get him on the phone right now!" Mai continued to demand, Rex walked behind the two before speaking to Mai.
"Keep acting up and they'll throw you off the boat" Rex said with a small smug smile.
"And who do you think you are?" She asked looking down at him putting one hand on her hip impatiently.
"A champion with a luxury room" Rex said still being a bit smug. This caused Mai to smile sweetly at him.
"Oh really? May I see it?" She asked.
"You bet come check it out!" Rex exclaimed happily with a bit of a blush on his face, did he just pull a hot girl? This was a little unbelievable, he began to quickly lead her back to his room.
Meanwhile back out on the outside Claire and Téa kept moving around.
"Will you two sit still?" Tristan asked a little annoyed "you're both gonna get us caught."
"It's freezing out here, I can't sit still I'm trying to keep warm" Claire said a little annoyed even though she did have a long bell sleeved lavender dress that stopped just above her knees with some light tan ankle boots, she had thick tights on but the sea air was bitterly cold. Tristan sighed and wrapped his tan trench coat around her causing Claire to smile and bundle up in the coat. "Thanks Tristan."
"You're welcome, now Téa stop moving around." Tristan whispered.
"But I need to use the bathroom but we can't go inside in case the guards notice we're not actually supposed to be here" Téa exclaimed in frustration.
"Well you could always go do your business over there." Tristan said with a small snigger causing Téa to turn to him angrily.
"That's not funny Tristan, I'm not a boy!" Téa whispered as loudly as she could.
"Here use this" Claire said as she pulled out a pink silicone funnel-like object. "It let's you pee standing up." Before Téa could use it however the door opened and Téa had to duck down. "What is it?" Claire asked as she and Tristan moved to look.
"Hey isn't that Bakura?" she said in a whisper.
"Bakura?" Claire asked as she peeped her head around the corner, Tristan soon followed after her. "Yeah I think that it is him" Claire whispered with a nod of her head.
"You mean Bakura from school?" He asked seeing the white haired teen himself and blinking, the gang then quickly moved back behind the wall to not be spotted.
"What do you think he's doing here?" Téa asked the two Tristan thought for a moment before shrugging.
"I guess he's in the tournament" he said, that seemed like the most logical explanation.
Getting to the room Rex relaxed himself on the black leather sofa in the room. The room was plenty big enough for two people with a large double bed pushed to the corner and a small mahogany coffee table in the middle of the matching double sofas.
"So what do you think of my cool digs?" He asked grinning up at Mai.
"It's beautiful, you must be quite a strong card player" she said stroking his ego as she looked around the room a plan forming in her mind.
"I am" he said trying not to boast too much.
"Really?" Mai asked sweetly as she put her bag down and sat across from him. "I love Duel Monsters, how about we play a game?"
"Ha, how do you think you're talking to?" Rex asked as he looked over at her putting one leg over the other "there's no way you can beat me."
"Please?" Mai asked sweetly before her voice lowered and she leaned forward making sure Rex got a good look at her cleavage. "I'll make a deal with you if I win I keep the room and if you win I'll do whatever you want me to do, all night." She said as she smirked. Rex went completely red imagining all the things they could do.
"Alright then it's a deal" he agreed.
Meanwhile Yugi and Joey had just moved outside to get a bit of fresh air and get away from the noise and Joey wanted to show Yugi the cards he had gotten from the trading he did.
"Here Yugi look I got some pretty good cards for trading" he said really proud of himself for all the successful trades.
"Salamandra Kunai with chain, Baby dragon and Shield and sword?" Yugi asked excitedly as he looked at the cards nodding his head in approval. "Great with these new magic cards combined with your monsters you'll have a really strong deck."
"Alright so now, I'm ready to win every Duel I play!" Joey exclaimed happily causing Yugi to laugh a little at his friends enthusiasm.
"I think that you're going to find it's a bit harder than that Joey." He said before opening up the Millennium Puzzle box that he kept his cards in, pulling one out and handed it to Joey. "Here add this to your deck, it can be helpful in a tight spot." Yugi explained the card had a red clock on it which had eyes on the face small purple feet, and thin arms with white gloves hands holding a wand with what looked like a clock but with only one hand.
"The Time Wizard?" Joey asked quietly as he took the card. "Thanks, I'll take it, I can't get over how you're always helping me out Yugi." Joey said as he looked at the card.
"Ah we meet again" a familiar voice said, the boys turned to look at the newcomer and saw that it was Weevil Underwood.
"Oh hi Weevil." Yugi said.
Back in the luxury room with Mai and Rex, Mai's deck was placed in the middle of the table as the deck had just been shuffled. Mai closed her eyes causing Rex to be confused.
"The first card is Shadow of eyes" Mai said confidently causing Rex to raise an eyebrow before picking up the first card and seeing that Mai was right, a trap card with a pair of eyes in the middle Rex's eyes widened and he gasped.
"How did you do that?" He asked astonished that she seemed to know what the card was.
"The second card is Harpy Lady, then Elegant Egotist followed by Cyber Shield." Mai said ignoring Rex's question. Rex found that she was right on every guess.
"Oh no, she's right again" he said in frustration and confusion, he couldn't work out how she was doing it this caused Mai to chuckle softly.
"This is my own card deck make I always know what cards I have and can pick any card I want at any time." She said with a shrug. "So go ahead and deal them Rex."
"Oh I think I'm in trouble" Rex murmured to himself as he stared at Mai a little flustered.
Back outside Weevil stood next to the railing looking out at the dark ocean.
"Ah the evening wind sure is nice" he said before turning back to Yugi. "So did you trade for any good cards Yugi?" He asked really wanting to see Yugi's deck.
"No, I'm gonna duel with the cards that I brought along with me." Yugi said as he had his hand on top of the golden box.
"I figured as much, you used the Exodia cards in your duel against Kaiba right? Those are the strongest cards in all of Duel Monsters." Weevil said he had never seen the cards in person, he wondered if Yugi would let him look at them.
"Yeah and really rare" Yugi agreed with a smile happy to talk about anything Duel Monsters.
"Could I possibly see those legendary cards?" Weevil asked a bit of excitement coming through his voice.
"I don't see why not" Yugi said before getting them out of the box "just be careful with them, ok?" Yugi asked as he handed them to Weevil. Weevil stared down at the cards he couldn't believe it, he was holding the strongest cards in the game.
"I have always tried to come up with a strategy to defeat these cards but nothing ever came to me...but now I have one" he turned around and before Yugi or Joey could react he threw them over the side of the boat. "Say goodbye to Exodia!" He shouted happily as he watched the cards fall towards the ocean.
"No!" Yugi shouted in dismay as he ran to the railing but was unable to do anything but watch.
"Now there's no one that can stop me!" Weevil shouted gleefully as he walked away.
"Those were the Exodia cards my Grandpa gave me!" Yugi cried out how could he let this happen? Before he knew it Joey had climbed up over the railing and dived down.
"I'll get them!" He said before jumping causing Yugi to panic.
"Joey don't!" However it was too late as Joey had already splashed into the water. "Joey, where are you?!"
Joey resurfaced and began to swim towards the cards, he was going to get them no matter what it took. After a few seconds he got one.
"Joey! Swim back to the ship! They're not worth drowning over!" Yugi pleaded with his best friend.
"No way, I'm gonna do this I can do this" Joey said before being hit in the face by a small wave. "Current sure is strong though, it's hard to fight...but if I punk out now they'll be no one to help Serenity." He got another card. "Yes just three more" after this he was hit by a bigger wave that pushed him under.
"Joey!" Yugi exclaimed before diving in himself he swam down to grab his friend dragging him up again, once above the water Yugi gulped in air and now had to think of a way to get back onto the ship. Thankfully he didn't have to think for long as a rope ladder was thrown down and three voices called out to him, looking up he say Claire Téa and Tristan sighing in relief he grabbed onto the ladder helped Joey on first and they both climbed up.
At the same time Mai threw Rex out of the room.
"Get out loser!" she shouted before dumping his bag next to him and smiling. "Thanks for the room Rex" she said sweetly before slamming the door shut.
Back with Yugi and the gang they all breathed a sigh of relief once checking the two boys over.
"That was close, I'm so glad you guys showed up really glad" Yugi said slightly breathlessly.
"We're a team, we all stick together" Téa said after double checking the two.
"Yeah we'll always have each others backs" Tristan said with a nod, causing Claire to nod as well.
"Thanks you guys" Yugi said with a smile.
"I'm sorry Yugi" Joey said he was on his hands and knees feeling that he had failed his friend. "I couldn't get all the cards, I only found two of your cards." He said holding up the two as he looked at Yugi in dismay.
"It's ok Joey" Yugi said gently he cared more that his friend was ok than about the cards that he just lost.
"I's not ok, it's always this way, I can't even help my own sister Serenity" he said disparagingly shaking his head.
"Your sister?" Yugi asked in surprise."You never told us you had a sister." Téa said as she leaned a little closer."Our parents divorced years ago when we were kids, she lives far away, with my mum." He explained his eyes closed as he tried to hold back his tears. "She's had really bad eyes since she was born, eventually she'll go blind." He continued his eyes finally looking at Yugi the hurt and pain filling his chocolate brown eyes."I'm sorry Joey" Yugi said sadly wanting to comfort his best friend."Thanks, she sent me a message, the doctors have told her that she's nearly out of time, soon her eyes will be impossible to repair. There is a surgery that has to be preformed by specialists before it's too late so there is a chance at saving her eyesight. But it's so expensive not in a million years could I be able to afford it. I have to win for her, winning in the Duellist Kingdom and getting that prize money. That's the only way I'll be able to help her!" Joey finished the tears finally escaping. Claire was the first one to react and she hugged Joey.
The rest of the night the friends spent together, wanting to support one another. When the sun rose the gang stood at the front of the ship. Looking out wanting to get a glimpse of the island that they were heading to."We'll both do our best Joey you for your sister and me for my Grandpa" Yugi said Claire smiled as held Yugi's arm."We'll do it together" Téa said."Look the island!" Tristan pointed out as a small island with what looked like mountains came into view."There it is the Duellist Kingdom!" Yugi announced. "That's it we're almost there."
Duellist Kingdom, Claire tightened her grip on Yugi she was a little nervous about coming here, but she needed to, she needed to keep her promise.
Ah finally finished this one, I'm sorry Claire didn't really get up to much but she will, soon.
I've got so many ideas for this it's unreal but I need to get through the first lot of episodes.
I hope you have enjoyed this one and I'll see you next time!
