After my encounter with the witch girl, I went to my third period, gym.
I never really was big on this class. Not because I'm weak, but because I'm lazy. I don't like to do stuff without a reason, and gym class always seemed like doing a mediocre workout for no reason at all besides arbitrary grades.
This gym class seemed no different. The coach, coach Hedge, was new around the school. He was short, had scruffy hair, and had a real attitude problem. He had a really loud whistle, and had a baseball bat on his shoulder. He was really loud, and always called the students "cupcakes," even though most of us were taller than him.
I also noticed a couple in the class. I usually didn't pay attention to couples, but these two seemed to stand out. One was a blonde girl with grey eyes and the stance of a knife fighter. She had an owl-like look in her eyes, and she seemed to notice me looking them over. Her eyes narrowed at me, probably wondering why I was staring at them. My eyes settled on two things. One, a Camp Half-Blood necklace with nine beads. Two, a lump at her side that looked suspiciously like a knife. Probably an Athena kis.
The other was a black-haired boy with sea-green eyes and had the stance of a sword fighter. He also smelled like the ocean for some reason. He seemed much more carefree, but the way he seemed to wrap himself around her indicated he was protective. His necklace only had 5 beads, and all he had was a pen. I had no idea who he was the child of, but whoever's kid he was, his LV. was way to high.
"Hello cupcakes," the loon went on, "my name is coach Hedge. I'll be your gym teacher for the year. So get dressed, and let's get started!"
Groans could be heard from everyone (except the couple, who seemed like they were used to this). Usually, all we did on first days was get a syllabus, do ice breakers, and get simple activities. But I guess this guy wanted to get into the action now.
We walked in to the locker room, and I immediately had to approach the coach to consult him with a small problem. Since I'm nonbinary, I had no idea which locker room to go in. I didn't really lean to any one gender. I usually dress in gender neutral clothing, wearing the same thing every day. Some people say I'm more masculine, but I dob't really lean towards masculinity. Either way, I needed him to pick which room I would go in.
I approached the five foot wonder with my inquiry. "Hey, coach? What locker room should I go in?"
Hedge looked baffled at this.
"'Which locker room should you go in?' Well, what are you?"
I was caught off gaurd at his question. It seemed like he was asking my gender, but it also seemed like he was asking if I was human. I ignored this.
"That's the problem. I'm nonbinary, and the locker rooms are separated by male/female, so-"
"What in the hay? 'Nonbinary?' What does that mean?"
'Okay, does this guy live under a rock, or what? How could he not have any clue what nonbinary meant, especially with all of the LGBTQ news going around?'
"Nonbinary, it means I'm genderless and go by they/them pronouns. So I'm neither a girl or a boy, so I have no idea which locker room I should go in."
"Is that so? Well, cupcake, why not let your old pal coach Hedge find which locker room is yours."
Does he really have to call all of us cupcakes? 'Cause if he does, then it's gonna get old really quick.
"Let's see, I put you in the... girl's locker room!" He said as he pointed to said locker room. "That'll be your locker room for the year."
I was kinda surprised by this. "Um... Why the girl's locker room?" Usually teachers assume I'm a guy, if they don't bother to actually check.
Hedge scratched his chin at this, then he came uo with his answer, "Well, when I looked at your name, I thought 'Kris' was a girl's name. I thought you were
"Thanks, I guess." I said as I walked away from him, "At least it's not a closet or a dirty-aft bathroom stall." As I walked away, I moticed he had tiny horns on his head and what looked suspiciously like goat fur poling out of his pants. 'Probably a satyr. Explains the half-bloods.'
I walked into the locker room, and, expectedly, the girls in there shrieked when I walked in.
"EEEK! THAT WEIRDO'S IN THE GIRL'S LOCKER ROOM! COACH!"
I rolled my eyes at this. 'Every damn time. Doesn't matter which locker I go in, they always react like this.'
I out as much fearspeak into my words as I could,"RELAX! I was assigned this locker room by the coach. So don't bother complaining to him. Besides, I'm nonbinary, have zero interest in seeing anything under anyone's cloths, and will probably just stay in a stall. So chill, okay?"
They still shot me wary looks, but at least they stopped screaming. The moment I moved towards my locker, all of the girls avoided me like a plague. Except for one, the blonde girl I noticed earlier.
She had the locker next to mine, go figure, and she didn't move away from me when I went to open it. Instead, she actually moved her face closer to me while planting her hand next to my head. Not in a "pin you against the wall and make out" way, and more of a "I want answers from you" way.
My hunch was proven right when she began interrogating me.
"I want some answers. Who are you, what are you, why were you staring at me and my boyfriend, and what was that you just did?"
I just rolled my eyes and replied, "In order, I'm Kris, I'm pretty sure I'm human, you and that other kid seemed off, and I just used the power of common sense to prove I wasn't a pervert and didn't want to be here much as they don't want me here. What do you think, huh?"
I guess she thought I was lying, as she just pressed on. "Well, I think you're a monster, you were spying on us, and you used some form of charmspeak."
"Isn't charmspeak an Aphrodite thing?"
I intended my question to calm her nerves, but she just narrowed her eyes at me more as more questions flashed behind them like a storm.
'Leaking lubricant. Can't she just leave well enough alone? Better yet, why don't I keep my silver-lined mouth shut? I could have acted oblivious, but no, I had to let it slip that I knew about demigods.'
I tried to halt the conversation, already tired of it. "Okay, so I answered your questions, and you shared your thoughts, so can I go now?"
"Not until you truthfully, completely, answer this question. Are you a monster?"
"Why do you think I'm a monster?"
The overly suspicious blonde was at least kind enough to answer, "Because you smell like a monster, your teeth are way too sharp, and you have blood red eyes."
"How'd you tell? Were you infatuated with my eyes, darling?" Almost immediately after I said this I knew I fragged up.
She glared at me as she asked, "Did you just flirt with me?"
"Look, woman, I can't help it! Flirting is something I do to lighten the mood! It's a force of habit!"
By now, the other girls were staring at us, wondering what the hell we were talking about. I knew people would get involved with this, and I also knew that I wouldn't have enough time to change at this rate. So, I decided to cut the scrap since she was a demigod, and pull out one of my own tricks. With my will focused, I paused time.
Decided to cut the chapter off right there. It was getting way too long for one, so I split it into two.
