Driving along the narrow road through the thick dense jungle, the two trucks rustled from side to side. The road itself felt a bit bumpy for the most part. It had already become apparent that Monarch hadn't been keeping up with maintenance on this island. The broken fence back at the dock, as well as the creature they had encountered was already a clear indication of that. Even now with the assumption that more of whatever that thing was was following them.
In the back of the second truck, everyone was sitting silently. All the while, the sounds of the trucks engines as well as the jungle itself were all that could be heard. Anna and Kristoff sat next to each other at the very front of the truck, clinging into one another's arms. Cocking their heads, they glanced to the foliage at each side of the jungle. But it was too dark to see anything.
The jungle itself was so thick, it had nearly blocked out the sun light. The only light came from the headlights, which stood atop the truck's rooftop, peering through the darkness as they revealed what lied ahead. Alone with many of the noises heard, this place was giving off an underlining feeling of dread. Anna turned forward, narrowing her head as she frowned.
"Hey, you alright?" Kristoff asked, curiously.
Anna glanced up to him, nodding her head to him.
"Yeah, I'm just... worried..." She insisted to him.
"I hear ya, this place gives me the creeps." Kristoff claimed.
Anna shook her head.
"No, I mean about Elsa," Anna insisted to him.
"Do you think she's okay?"
Kristoff narrowed his head, unsure what to say. He didn't want to worry her and wished that he could say that Elsa was somewhere safe. But being dragged off by one of the titans, by Godzilla no less, it was hard to say. Especially with all the dangers he knew was lurking on this island. It was hard to imagine anybody surviving in a place like this.
He narrowed his eyes, glancing to the side.
"Uh..." He said, trying to think of what to say.
There was a sudden sound from off to Anna's left, causing her to gasp and press closely against Kristoff. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
"What was that?!" she exclaimed.
"Hey, don't worry," He reassured her.
"I'm sure it was nothing."
Anna glanced up at him, worryingly. Not just for them, but for her sister as well. She wondered if Elsa was someplace safe right now. What if something happened to here? What if she was in trouble?
Anna narrowed her yes, glanced back at the marines who were sitting in front of them. She glanced over at Jack, who was sitting at the very back of the truck itself. She could only assume that she was just as worried as she was about her sister.
Jack was leaning against the truck's left side, peering down the road. While it too dim for him to see anything, the underlining feeling of more of that thing they encountered in the cargo hold was still prevalent. Gripping the handle of his assault riffle tightly in his hand, Jack all but readied himself for that very moment. The moment those things, whatever they were, would spring out from the darkness and attack them. They were somewhere close by, he could feel it.
The many encounters he and his squad had with the things that lurked behind the walls of Safe Haven all but taught him to be weary. Especially when everything was silent. That would usually be the moment the creatures would attack. Many times he had witnessed his fellow soldiers be dragged off into the foliage or ripped apart before his very eyes. And now his own fiancé was somewhere out there, probably in danger at this very moment.
He wasn't about to let anything keep him from finding her.
Up front, Mattias was looking over a map layout on his tablet. Zooming in over the part of the island they were on, he looked over the route leading to the outpost. Though with no GPS location, it was hard to tell where they were. Looking back the way they came, he could hardly see the dock anymore. It would seem safe to assume they were now somewhere in the hills. But the foliage of the jungle were too cluttered and thick, he could barely see anything.
"Damn, where the hell are we?" Mattias said, glancing at the Truck ahead of them.
"It's too dark to see anything."
"Don't worry, we shouldn't be far now." Hajima insisted to him.
"How can you be sure?" Mattias asked, curiously.
"The route should only take about an hour by truck to get to the outpost." Hejima insisted to him, bring up his watch.
"It's already been thirty minutes. It shouldn't be long now."
"In twenty minutes we're all gonna be dead," Mattias insisted to the doctor.
"I don't know how you all managed to survive on this island for so long with those thing out there."
"We kept most of the specimens from Skull Island within paddocks across the island so that we could study them."
"Paddocks, what about the Titans?" Mattias asked, curiously.
"There was only one titan on the island at that time," Hajima insisted to him.
"He usually just stuck to his layer so we didn't have to worry about him. We only kept the ones that were close to human size in paddocks. But after the Titan Killer dropped over Baltimore, many of the people station here returned home to be with their families. That included maintenance."
Mattias sighed as he gestured a nod of his head. He remembered all too well what happened that day and what followed not long after. He was all but glad that he and his family were in Safe Haven at that time.
"If I had to guess some of them must have broken out of their paddocks," Hajima said.
"But I would assumed that the Death Jackals would all be dead by now."
"Death Jackals?" Mattias asked, curiously.
"You mean that thing in the storage unit?"
Hajima nodded.
"That's right," He said.
"We always had to make sure to feed those thing. Otherwise, they would resort to cannibalism."
"Cannibalism?" Mattias said.
"That's right," Hajima said.
"These things are so desperate food that they'll more then willing to eat their own."
"Jesus." Mattias said, turning forward.
"Say that again." Hajima said.
"The fact they're still around can only mean they found a sustainable food service."
Something dashed across the road in front of the lead Truck, causing the marine driving to quickly slam on the breaks. The truck slid to a stop along with the one behind. Everyone in the back quickly braced as the truck suddenly came to a stop. Anna and Kristoff glanced back to the front of the truck.
"Why are we stopped?" Anna asked, curiously.
Jack stood up, holding up his assault rifle. He glanced over at Kristoff and Anna
"Stay put!" Jack said, leaping down off the side of the truck.
"Jack!" Anna said, only to be held back by Kristoff.
Several other Marines followed suit, leaping down from each side of the truck. Then then raised their guns, flicking on the flash lights as they scanned the nearby foliage.
"What the hell?" Mattias exclaimed.
He got out of the truck, slamming the door behind him. He pulled out his flashlight from his vest, switching it on. He then walked around the front of the truck and on the other side, he was met with Jack, holding his assault rifle as if they were about to be attacked. Beaming his flash light along the foliage. He then turned to Mattias, lowering his gun.
"Why are we stopping here?" Jack asked, curiously.
"At ease, Private." Mattias said.
"I'm trying to figure that out myself. Come on."
Jack followed Mattias as the two then made their way toward the lead truck. They then stepped up, knocking over the window of the driver side door. The marine lowered the window, glancing to Mattias.
"What happened?" Mattias asked, curiously.
"I don't know, sir," The Marine insisted.
"I thought I just saw something."
"Did you get a look at what it was?" Mattias asked, curiously.
The marine shook his head.
"Barely, it was moving too fast." The marine insisted to him.
"I could hardly see what it was before is passed me."
Mattias stepped down from the truck, glancing back at Jack.
"You think it was one of those things?" Jack asked, curiously.
"Maybe, either way we should probably shouldn't stay here for long." Mattias insisted to him.
The two the heard a sound from the jungle off to the left side of the trail. One which resembled the one they had heard back at the docks. Along with a sudden rustling within the foliage. The other marines were already holding their guns toward the foliage, shining their lights over the leaves and palms which rustled within the darkness. Sweat dripped from over their foreheads as they gripped their assault rifles tightly in their hands, shuddering in fear of whatever was lurking in the jungle.
Mattias glanced to the other Marines.
"Everyone get back to the Trucks, we gotta-"
One of the marines was suddenly struck by something which dashed out of the foliage, dragging him between the two trucks. Jack and Mattias quickly rushed forward as they came between the two vehicles. Jack raised his assault rifle and fired several shots at the creature as it dragged their squad member into the brush. The cries of the man were suddenly silent, followed by the sound of the creatures ripping him apart.
The rest of the squad had already opened fire upon the foliage. All the while, the Death Jackals continued to scurry through the foliage. Pouncing upon the marines as they proceeded to maul them to death.
Mattias glanced back to the truck.
"Go, Go, Go!" Mattias exclaimed to the marine.
As the lead Truck began to move, a few of the other marines had began piling into the back. Jack and Mattias quickly rushed back toward the other truck, where that climbed up into the back. Just as the truck began to move, the other marines slowly began to climb up into the back. Jack and Mattias proceeded to help them up. Just as the truck began to pick up speed, the remaining private then turned and quickly leaped up onto the tailgate. He climbed up, reaching up his hand.
Just as Jack rushed to help him, one of the Death Jackals leaped from the darkness and pounced atop the man's back, biting down over his shoulder. Jack fell back over the floor of the truck's back. Anna gasped in aw as Kristoff took her into her arms and held her tightly, averting her eyes from the sight. Jack gazed up with a look of horror as he saw his fellow squad member cry in agony as he was dragged off the tailgate. Several droplets of his squad mates blood splattered over his face. The marine then lost his grip and fell the ground below along with the creature.
All that could be heard was the man's screams of pain as he was mauled by the Death Jackals. And then silence.
Jack turned away, gritting in teeth in utter contempt. Whipping the drops of blood from over his face.
"Damn it!" he cursed, unable to save his squad member.
Mattia glanced back at the others.
"Is everyone alright?" Mattias asked, curiously
Everyone nodded their heads to the lieutenant.
"Yeah, we're fine." Kristoff insisted.
They suddenly heard the creatures reptilian hissing from behind. Jack glance back down the trail. He grabbed his assault riffle that was laying next to him and shined the light down the path. It was there they saw the Death Jackals chasing after them. Running at great speed atop their hind legs, they were closing in on them.
"Shit, their gaining on us!" Jack exclaimed, glancing back.
Jack turned back down the trail at the death Jackals, where he the proceeded to open fire upon the creatures. Along with the other members of his squad. Mattias turned back to Kristoff and Anna.
"Stay back!" He advised before turning to help Jack.
Mattia came up as he fired his assault rifle. Several of the jackals were struck by their fire, causing them to tumble. Only for the others to continue to pursue the truck. After firing the remaining rounds, Jack dropped the clip over the floor of the truck before reloading his assault rifle. He then continued to open fire over the Jackals. But despite combined fire power of the squad, there were so many and they were close in fast.
"Damn, it, there's too many of them!" Jack exclaimed, glancing back at the others.
Anna glanced back at Jack, where she then caught sight of one of the Jackals looking as if it was about to pounce.
"Jack!" She exclaimed as she stood up.
Acting quickly, she grabbed Mattias pistol from behind and pulled it from it's hoister. Just as the Jackal pounced up at Jack, Anna fired several shot at the creature. The creature was struck by the rounds falling back over the path. Many of the other Death Jackals toppled over it's body, only to get back up and continue chasing after the truck.
Jack glanced back at Anna.
"Nice shot." He said.
Anna smiled and nodded her head back at him.
"Thanks." She said.
The two then noticed the there was a bright light overhead. Glanced back to the front of the truck, they then noticed an opening from the jungle ahead. The two truck emerged from the jungle where they came out into a clearing. Overhead, they saw a large structure, surrounded from all around by tall standing steal wall.
Hajima glanced back through the window behind him.
"Over there!" Hajima proclaimed, pointing ahead.
"That's the outpost!"
Mattias turned forward to his squad. The Death Jackals emerged from the jungle behind them, still pursuing the group, who continued firing at the Death Jackals.
"Keep up the fire!" Mattias proclaimed to them.
"We're almost there. Everyone..."
There was a sudden familiar roar from off in the distance. Causing the squad to stop firing as they glanced back in the direction it came.
It was Godzilla.
Jack turned back to the Death Jackals, who had stopped dead in their tracks. Standing over the trail, they bobbed their heads, curiously. They then heard it again. Even from a mile away, Godzilla continued to hold fear not just to them but the creature on this island as well. There was then a sudden rumbling sound as the Earth shook beneath them. But it wasn't the foot steps of a Titan. Rather this one felt like an Earth quake.
"You guys feel that?" Anna asked, curiously.
The Death Jackals hollered as they then turned and scurried back toward the jungle. Jack glanced back at the others, curiously.
"What's got them so spooked?" He asked, curiously.
Godzilla paused as he peered ahead at the asteroid, which continued to pulse a bright red light. This time much faster then before. The King of the monsters uttered a growl, knowing well what was to come.
Saber came to a stop upon feeling the Earth shaking beneath his paws. He cocked his head, uttering a growl.
"What is it?" Elsa asked, curiously.
Honeymaren paused for a moment, peering ahead with a look of awe and horror.
"Oh no," she said.
"It's starting."
