Tony notices something on the chip that Jack retrieved from Gaines' body.

Tony: It's a tracker, that must be how they found Gaines. I can remove it.
Jack: How long do you need?
Tony: One minute, maybe two.
Jack: Which is it one or two?
Tony: One if you let me get to it.

Jack gave Tony the chip and he began working on it. This would mean their return to CTU will be slightly delayed, but if the terrorists can track them they might destroy the chip. Jack calls George Mason at CTU.

Mason: Jack, have you got the intel?
Jack: Yes, but the terrorists might be tracking it. Tony's trying to disable the tracker now. We're coming in just make sure your technicians can access the chip as soon as we get there.
Mason: We'll be ready just get here soon.

Tony removed the tracker from the chip.
.
Tony: Tracker's off let's move.
Jack: Take the chip to CTU, I'll take the tracker and lead the terrorists away.
Tony: Jack no.
Jack: There's no time to argue just get it to CTU.

Tony reluctantly took the chip while Jack went in a different direction.

George Mason updates president Keaton on their progress.

Mason: Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida are bringing in the chip right now. We should have confirmation within the hour about it's authenticity.
Keaton: Will this help stop the next wave of attacks?
Mason: We believe so. Our agents all over the country will be ready to move once we know where the bombers are located.
Keaton: That's a relief. But what decisions have to be made will depend on what the intel says about who was involved.
Mason: I'm aware of that sir. We will make certain you have the most reliable intel.
Keaton: Good work. Tell your staff that their president is incredibly grateful.
Mason: I will do that mr president.

While Tony gets into his car Jack covertly hotwires another car. If this car is reported stolen, Tony's return to CTU can't risk further delay.

Kevin Carroll, a mercenary working for Dimitry Utkin, sees that the tracker has left the urgent care center. It seems unlikely that Ira Gaines would be released so quickly. Jack Bauer must have removed the chip from Gaines' body. Carroll begins his pursuit of Jack Bauer, planning to kill him when they meet.
