Chapter 8

Peter Pan lay peacefully in his bed. The lost boys were snoring loudly beside him, but for once it didn't seem to bother him. Turning over sleepily he closed his eyes and before he knew it he had drifted off into a deep sleep.

Suddenly Peter's dreams were broken by a sharp pull at his head and an angry tinkering.
"Tink!" Peter complained angrily as he was yanked out of his peaceful sleep. Tinkerbell was not in a good mood. She had been spying on the pirates almost all afternoon and well into the evening when the lost boys had given up and gone home, and still she had not discovered a single thing that could give Peter a reason not to trust Tiger Lily. The only thing she had discovered was some whispering of a girl named Lucy who had left the ship a few days earlier.

She had decided that Peter didn't need to know that though, and if she couldn't find any evidence, she would just have to invent some herself. She had created and rehearsed a thousand different theories for her story until she had finally come up with the perfect theory it made complete sense and Tinkerbell was sure that it would convince Peter to stay away from Tiger Lily; What if Tiger Lily isn't really Tiger Lily at all? What if she was this Lucy girl, she had been acting so strangely that the theory made sense.

Peter laughed when Tinkerbell told him her idea. "Hook doesn't have a daughter," he exclaimed. "Who'd want to have a baby with Hook? He's a codfish." Chuckling to himself he turned over and went back to sleep. Angrily, Tink stormed out of the hideaway tree. That was it! She was going to the Indian camp if Peter wouldn't believe her she would just have to find some evidence that would force him to!

When the lost boys woke the next morning, they were surprised to see Peter up and waiting for them with breakfast ready, usually Peter was the last person to wake up.
"What are we going to do today Peter?" Slightly asked.
"We're going to go visit the Indians." Peter replied happily.
"Are we going to try catch the Indians?" Tootles asked.
"No!" Peter snapped defensively. "Not today."
The lost boys looked at each other confused.
"But Peter…" Slightly started.
"No!" Peter cut in. "Today we are just going to visit the Indians."

The Indian camp was almost on the other side of the island from the hideaway tree so it took Peter and the lost boys almost an two hours to get there. Fortunately, they never tired of playing tag and Peter's 'pretend' games. When they arrived at the camp Tiger Lily was waiting for them as soon as Peter saw her he stopped chasing Curly and instead turned to smile at her. He sent the lost boys off to play with the younger Indians and Tiger Lily and Peter were left alone.

The more Lucy spent time with Peter the more she seemed to forget what she was here to do. She found herself often forgetting that she was supposed to be posing as Tiger Lily and telling Peter things about herself that she should have kept to herself.

The more he talked to Tiger Lily the more he realised he liked her. And this made him angry as he had promised himself a long time ago that he would never fall in love, never stop having fun and adventure and most importantly never grow up. He was sure that if he ever broke one of those promises it would be his undoing.

Things were also getting harder and harder for Lucy. The more she talked to Peter the more she realised that, although he was arrogant and irritating, he was not a bad person. He told her about Hook and his side of the story and the more he talked the more Lucy became confused who was she supposed to believe Peter or her father?

Around midmorning the lost boys got bored and came to find Peter sitting with Tiger Lily and begged him to come hunting with them. He agreed but before they left Tiger Lily pulled Peter aside.
"Meet me here tomorrow evening," she said.
Peter smiled at her.
"Of course," he agreed.
