It was a few weeks later when it happened again. She was walking into school with Cat, Robbie, and Tori and there he was, outside his locker, flirting shamelessly with yet another brunette with sapphire eyes. At first glance, she thought it was the girl from the party but on closer inspection, this was a completely different person.
It still fucking hurt. But without copious amounts of vodka in her system, she was able to regulate her reaction to it much easier.
She had spent years of her life worrying what it would be like to lose him to another girl. To be replaced. It felt like her worst fears were playing out before her eyes.
"She isn't as pretty as you," Cat assured her, snapping her back to reality.
"I know," Jade agreed, averting her gaze back to Cat and Tori.
"What a dick. How many is this now?" Tori crossed her arms and shook her head disapprovingly.
Jade grimaced. This would be number five. Not that she was counting.
"I've honestly lost so much respect for Beck." Tori continued in disdain.
"Well, she is skinnier than me and she's definitely got a better butt than mine," she deadpanned.
"Jade, seriously? Shut the fuck up," Tori disparaged her.
She shrugged, grabbed her stuff from her locker, and tried her best to ignore the ache in her chest as they walked to class.
She hated tech-theater. She liked being on stage, singing and performing. She didn't care about the lighting or sound effects. It was dull and she wasn't good at it - something she didn't like to admit.
As she climbed the steps at the back of the theater up towards the lighting deck she couldn't help but feel slightly numb. She could hear Beck and Andre laughing from the stage below. The sound of his laughter for some reason seemed to physically hurt her. She gripped the cool, metal banister with her hands and took a deep breath.
Why wasn't he sad? Had their relationship meant so little to him that he was over her already?
What would happen if she were to throw herself off the lighting deck onto the stage below - seriously injuring herself. Would he come running? Would he even care?
"Jade?" Tori climbed up behind her, seeming to notice that her mind had gone to a dark place. She stopped still, looking out at the stage. "You okay there?"
"I'm fine," she shook her head and continued climbing the steps.
"You're scaring me," Tori frowned, following her up.
"I said I'm fine!" She snapped loudly. Tori gave her a look as if she didn't believe her. She sighed and squeezed the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger.
"Look, just let me feel like shit about this for a minute longer okay?" she requested pleadingly. Tori's expression softened.
"Alright, but you know where I am if you need to talk."
