Nico's POV
Hazel and I were walking back to the orphanage from the park went there was a loud BOOM. We started running wanting to see what was happening. When we got there the orphanage was on fire. We saw Headmaster Minos run to save his own life. There were soldiers everywhere but none of them were wearing Earth kingdom uniforms. They were wearing red and black. I put two and two together; The fire nation was attacking and we were in the middle of it.
A soldier was running towards us sword arm raised. I quickly disarmed him and surrounded a 2nd in a pool of lava. I turned around to find a 3rd grabbing Hazel. That got me mad. Nobody and I mean NOBODY could take someone I cared about. NOT EVER AGAIN. At that point I didn't know what I was doing. It was like my body had decided to stop depending on me so I let it. In less than 2 minutes. Every soldier was on the ground and the fire was just a wisp of smoke. My body felt like a stack of bricks and I fell to the ground.
Will's POV
I woke up in the attic of the orphanage, as I had for the past 4 years but this time something was different. There was a boy sleeping on the ground next to me, a boy wearing all black and looking tired. I had dreamed of fire and smoke last night because it had come very close to killing me. I was only good at healing with water, not attacking or defending with it. When I was younger I hoped to be an earth-bender like my mom but I was instead, a water-bender like dad. I found this our a week after dad ditched mom for another woman. I grew up surrounded by earth-benders and when my mom died I was put up in the attic. If Headmaster Minos wasn't lying he was feeding me the same as everyone else, it wasn't too hard to believe he was feeding everyone but himself scraps. The strange boy sat up and looked at me,"Who are you?" I asked as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes."I'm Nico"He answered, checking his pockets."I wouldn't normally ask this but...can you keep a secret.
