A.N. — Today's birthday boy was one of those I had many ideas for. First I wanted to focus on his being raised by heroes, just not the expected ones. Then I pivoted to his interactions with Izuku Midoriya. Both of those writes didn't wind up being enough about the spotlighted character. So, third time's the charm? Happy birthday, Kota Izumi!

346. Kota Izumi

Hearing that the child of a hero couple didn't want to be a hero was surprising on the surface... unless you knew Kota Izumi's backstory. Then it was all too understandable why he wanted nothing to do with the profession that robbed him of his parents.

Kota was young, but he was old enough to bear a burden many adults never had. He'd developed a jaded perspective at odds with his smallish stature, and a surly attitude to those showing him kindness. How could Kota believe anyone was being genuine to him, when all altruism had gotten him was orphaned?
