Prologue

The scrap of paper on her desk's surface called her attention for the umpteenth time since she sat down almost thirty minutes ago. It'd been there for four weeks now, almost a full week since she last went back down the well.

There was no one home with her. She'd come back early after another fight with Inuyasha where he ran off to see Kikyo. Even after taking a bath to calm down, she was still so upset.

She downcast her gaze, blue eyes narrowed in anger. A second later, she reached for the paper and opened it. On the inside was a phone number, punctuated with a heart.

"Mmhm… not bad," a masculine voice chuckled from behind her. She paused once she got off her skateboard, turning to look at the person who'd come to join her.

He was dressed in a nice blue suit. His hair, a light blue color, was combed back in a neat style. Crimson eyes stared down at her, and she set a hand on her hip as confusion set in her brain. He looked vaguely familiar, and she briefly wondered where she'd seen him before. He had such a professional aura surrounding him. He must've been someone special…

"What do you mean?" she asked, eventually breaking the silence that'd built up as she stared at him.

"Your little tricks," he mused in response. "How long have you been skating?" he asked. Kagome glanced down at the board by her feet, and she shrugged.

"I learned when I was younger, but I recently picked the hobby back up," she responded. It was the truth, after all. After Inuyasha broke her bike, she needed a quicker way to get to school, and it worked better than sprinting all the way.

"You hardly look a day out of practice," he responded, and Kagome smiled.

"Oh, so you just happened to miss when I fell flat on my face two minutes ago?" she retorted. He chuckled.

"Oh, no, I saw that," he stated with a grin that showed off sharp teeth. "Everyone falls every once in a while, Darling."

A flush of pink stained her cheeks at the affectionate, flirty nickname. Kagome nodded, knowing that he was right. "So… I take it that you also skate?" she asked. He nodded.

"If you want, I can show you a trick or two," he offered. He held a hand out to her. "Ainosuke, though, please, call me Adam. You are…?"

Oh!" Kagome set her small hand in his own. "I'm Kagome," she said, providing him with her name. "And, sure!" she exclaimed. "I'd love to learn a few tricks!"

Following that, he'd spent almost half an hour teaching her a new trick.

"Ah, look at t the time," he sighed as he glanced at his watch. "As much as I want to stay longer, I'm afraid my time here has run out."

Kagome smiled and shook her head. "That's okay," she assured. "Thanks for the pointers, though!"

He chuckled "Oh, it was my pleasure." Adam dipped his hand into his suit jacket pocket, pulling out a small, black pocketbook and a pen. He wrote something down on one of the pages and tore it out. He folded the page before he held it out for her to take.

Kagome unfolded the paper, revealing a phone number written in neat handwriting. She was taken aback, and when she looked up at him again, he smirked.

"If you're ever interested in doing something fun, give me a call."

Kagome set her chin on her palm as she fiddled with the paper. Heart heavy in her chest, she reached for her phone and put the number in. Before she pressed the dial button, her finger hovered a hair's width from the screen.

Should she do this…? She really didn't know him well, and he looked to be well older than her. A different part of her, entirely separate from her rational thought, posed another argument.

What was the harm in it? If Inuyasha wasn't going to change his ways, then why should she bother to hang around waiting for a day that wouldn't ever come?

She folded the paper and slipped it into her desk drawer. A second later, she pressed the call button and lifted her phone to her ear. It rang for a few seconds before the other end of the line picked up.

"Hello?" A familiar, smooth voice rang in her ear, and she hesitated a moment before saying anything.

"A-Ah…- Hi," Kagome said. "It's me, Kagome from a few weeks ago…" she trailed off. "Do you remember?"

"Of course I do!" he responded, voice seeming to perk up some after she said those words. "How could I forget when I've been waiting so long for your call, Darling?"

Kagome blushed and drew a small pattern on her desk. "Sorry for making you wait…" she responded. "I just…" she paused, thoughts straying back to Inuyasha, and her ire flared up again, "...- was dealing with stuff."

"Mmhmm…" He hummed, seeming to encourage her to keep going.

"A-Anyway…" she continued. "Y-You said to give you a call if I'm ever interested in something fun," she stated.

"That I did," Adam responded. "Alas… I'm a little busy right now," he continued, sounding truly despaired at having to say it. "How about we do something tomorrow evening?" he suggested. "Unless you're going to be distracted by something else…"

Kagome shook her head, despite being well aware that he couldn't see her. "Tomorrow would be great," she chirped.

"It's a date then," he said.

"Do you wanna just meet somewhere?" she asked, only for him to chuckle.

"No, no," he chuckled in response. "I'll pick you up tomorrow at seven pm if that's okay with you."

Kagome thought about it for a minute before she nodded. "Okay, that sounds great!" She fiddeled with the hem of her skirt. "Is there anything in particular you want to do?"

"I'll take you someplace fun. The real fun doesn't start until later usually, but doing it this way gives me plenty of time to get you dressed up."

"Oh, okay," Kagome responded, not picking up on what he said at first. She bid him farewell as they hung up, and she set her phone down. A second later, as she was sending her address to him so he knew where to go, she registered what he'd said.

"... Help me get dressed…?"

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

The following day, they weren't on their way back to the shrine until it was almost midnight. Kagome was seated in the backseat of his car, him seated right beside her. His hand rested on her thigh, almost to keep her from moving away.

Where they'd gone had been the last place she expected, but she wasn't upset by it. She'd had plenty of fun.

He'd taken her to a place called S. It was some sort of secret skateboarding ring, and the matches were far from what she was familiar with. It'd been interesting, and she definitely wanted to go again sometime to see what might happen on a different night.

"You never told me what held you off on giving me a call," Adam remarked from his spot beside her. The masquerade mask he'd worn to S had been removed in the car. His blue hair was styled differently than when she'd first seen him. The window beside him was cracked, and he held a cigarette up to his lips as he coaxed her attention onto him.

Kagome sighed and let her hands fiddle with the ends of her hair. "There's this guy," she said, a frown pulling at her lips. "He acts like he likes me, but then, wherever he gets the chance he goes off to see his ex." She heard him hum in response, and she sighed. "I wouldn't mind so much if he just told me," she explained. "But he doesn't…"

"Why waste your time on him then?" Adam questioned.

Kagome shrugged, glancing out the window beside her. "I dunno anymore…" she trailed off. With the jewel whole, there was no need for her to go back, but she kept doing so. What was the purpose? She had no need or reason to. "I keep hoping that he'll change, but it doesn't look like he will. I feel like I'm wasting my time waiting on something that'll never come."

Adam chuckled. "Seems like he's not worth all that effort you're reserving for him."

Kagome nodded. "I guess you're right," she admitted. It hurt to say it, especially when he got so bent out of shape the moment another guy showed interest in her. "He's the worst sometimes," she stated. "He does that, but gets so jealous when any other guy comes around me."

"Tsk…" Adam clicked his tongue.

"I guess that's part of the reason I called you in the first place," she admitted. "Not because I wanted to get him all riled up- he doesn't even know I'm out with you right now." She paused and sighed. "I just… It feels wrong to say, but I just wanted to get even," she said. "I guess I just feel a little weird, because it turned into something different, you know?" she remarked. "I had a lot of fun, and I completely forgot about him at the moment."

Adam chuckled. "I'm glad you got your mind off him," he remarked. He put his cigarette out and rolled the window up, turning to face her. "What do you say to a little bit more fun to get him out of mind now?"

Kagome tilted her head to the side, innocent curiosity highlighting the blue of her eyes. "Like what…?"

His hands gripped her and pulled her closer until she was perched on his lap, facing him. Her widened eyes lingered on his face as he smirked. "Instead of craving the attention of someone who can't be bothered to treat you well, why won't you let me give you a taste of passion?"

His hands on her hips held her down firmly against his lap. He leaned to her, lips finding her neck under her raven locks. Kagome's hands came up to rest on his shoulders as a vibrant blush dyed her cheeks.

"W-Wait…" Kagome looked out the window beside them, spotting other cars on the road. Adam chuckled, lips trailing down her neck in a tingling caress.

"They can't see you," he reassured her. The divider was also put up, separating the driver from the backseat of the spacious car. His fingers dug into her hips, pulling her down on his lap as she rose up. "Don't be so nervous," he cooed into her ear. One of his hands left her hip, coming up to grip her by her chin. He pulled her closer, letting his lips linger against her own. Not quite touching, but enough to tease.

Kagome looked into his eyes, her stomach flipping nervously. Once again, the nagging concern of whether this was a good idea returned. A few seconds passed as she contemplated both sides, and she set her hand on his chest once she'd reached a sound decision. Her eyes fluttered closed as she leaned in the short distance, taking the final step by pressing her lips to his own. His hand under her chin strayed back down to join his other on her hips as he returned the kiss with fervor.

He nipped at her lower lip with sharp teeth, making her gasp. He used the opening to push his tongue into her mouth, teasing her own with it. After several long seconds, he let her break the kiss off. As she panted for much-needed air, he trailed his teeth down her cheek and neck, nipping at her skin. Her hands went into his hair, grabbing fistfuls as he sucked and bit a dark bruise into the crook of her neck. Her lips, glossy and bruised, hung open, eyes fluttering as she tilted her head to give him better access.

Her head was fuzzy, her mind hyper-fixated on his touch. He bit harder than before, and she let out a soft yelp, hand coming up to cover her mouth in an attempt to smother any noises she may make. Adam chuckled and lifted his head from her neck.

"You sound so cute like this," he cooed. He lifted a hand, gently pulling her hand from her mouth. He let his lips ghost over her own, but before he could pull her into another kiss, the screen divider was lowered. Kagome jumped, hiding her face in her hands as Adam combed a hand through her wild raven locks.

"We've arrived," was all Tadashi said as he looked through the rear-view mirror. Adam sighed, his grip on her faltering some so she could get off of him.

Face bright pink, she crawled off of his lap, hand feeling for the door handle so she could get out of the car. Before she got too far, he gripped her by her hand and pulled her back to deliver a quick peck to her kiss-swollen lips.

"Let's do this again soon, hm?" he purred, and Kagome nodded automatically. He smiled at her compliance.

"I'll call you?" she suggested, and his smile widened.

"Don't keep me waiting for weeks this time," he warned.

She nodded, gently closing the door, and turned to make her way up the shrine steps. The car remained at the base until she got up to the top, and she turned just in time to see it drive off, taillights fading into the distance.

She turned shortly after, her hand going up to press at her lips as she made her way inside the building, a smile on her face. No one else was there when she walked in, but she wasn't expecting anyone to be there. Her family was still out of town on vacation and they would be for another two weeks still.

She set her things down on the counter and made her way upstairs to get a shower and get ready for bed. Tomorrow was Monday, after all, and she had school.
