Spider-Man: Edge of Arkham
Episode 4:
Airship Brawl
Hey everyone sorry I've been M.I.A for a while some personal stuff has come up and I couldn't put my heart into this. But rest assured I haven't abandoned this fanfiction. It'll get a proper ending. As usual I don't own either character they're owned by their respective companies.
Both heroes arrived at the top of Wayne Plaza and the moment they landed, Batman gestured to Spider-Man to wait by the railing. Peter did as told and looked at the view of the city.
'How could such a great city be filled with so much crime and violence to the point it doesn't even feel natural?' He wondered.
The Caped Crusader walked back to where Spider-Man was and instructed him on how to get in the airship. Peter enthusiastically challenged Bruce to a small race to see who would get to the airship first. The former jumped down immediately and swung to the airship.
After a couple minutes he finally made it to the top and was panting for air.
"About time", said Batman which caught Spider-Man off guard that it made him jump.
The lenses on his mask squinted which gave the indication that he was super confused on how the Dark Knight got there so fast.
'Seriously. Why didn't my spider sense go off?' , the Web Slinger asked in his head for it was the second time it happened.
Bruce turned to the entrance and used his detective vision to locate the control panel. He then took out the remote hacking device to hack into it as it activated it showed a projected screen with scrambled letters. Batman adjusted the letters and it spelled out, "Biochemistry" and after doing that the door opened.
"Alright, nice going on the hacking there Bats", Spider-Man congratulated his brooding partner.
He then raised his hand for a high five, but like last time Bruce left him hanging and went inside the airship. Peter simply sighed and followed him in. They got down to the foyer and Batman saw some militia soldiers controlling a drone. He downloaded the security codes from the soldiers who controlled it and made it electrocute the soldiers in the room.
"They were in for a shock", Spider-Man quipped in hopes of finally making the Bat laugh a little. As usual, no luck.
"Too corny?" The Web Head asked.
"You tell me. Was it?" Bruce responded finally and he had to admit, that one was pretty bad.
The Batman went to a door that had a touchpad in the center. He placed his hand on it and the door turned red and denied access to both of them.
"So how are we getting in?", Peter asked and Bruce looked through a glass window to see a control panel that led to the other room and then saw an entrance being blocked by a big metal crate.
"Wait here", the Dark Knight ordered as he hacked the control panel to open the door.
After he got inside he received a call from Alfred, Spider-Man followed him in, as he got in his lenses opened wide when he saw the room filled with dead bodies. He felt sick to his stomach at seeing all the massacre.
Batman walked up to the Web Swinger and told him, "We won't lose anyone else tonight". After saying that he offered a hand to Peter and the latter accepted.
"I downloaded the controls to the airship's full rotational stability system. Can you push that?" Bruce asked.
Spider-Man nodded as he went to where the trapdoor was and pushed the crate off. He gave a bow and gestured to the now available trapdoor.
"After you, good sir", The Wall Crawler said in a British voice.
Both slid down and went to the cargo hold. They saw another crate blocking their way, but Batman took care of it by making the ship lean to the left. Both heroes then went through the hidden entrance and saw an opening high above them.
The Wall Crawler grabbed on to the Caped Crusader and zipped each other up to the grate. As they were about to open the door, Peter's spider sense went off and both he and Bruce dodged an incoming attack from a militia brute who wielded blades.
The militia brute started swinging his blades at both heroes and both swiftly dodged each blade. Spider-Man webbed the brute's arm, which gave Batman the opening to land a hard right hook to the brute's face. Then Peter then took the chance to punch the brute on the other side of his face with a restrained left hook. Then both heroes joined in the middle and in perfect synch kicked the man in the head knocking him out.
"The bigger they are, the harder they fall", Batman stated.
"Was that a quip?", Spider-Man asked in shock.
The Caped Crusader went silent and hacked the gate in order to get to the next room.
'I'm getting through to him' The Wall Crawler assured himself.
Both enter the other room and from their vantage point they see some militia soldiers surrounding a middle aged man with white hair. One soldier is holding Simon's arm in an arm lock and it looks painful. "Is that Simon Stagg?", whispered Peter.
"He won't last much longer. We need to save him", Batman instructed.
"You don't have to tell me twice.", Spidey commented and web zipped down and kicked the soldier off Simon.
"Didn't your parents teach you to respect your elders?", Peter quipped.
The soldiers ignored his comment and charged at him from all sides. Spider-Man dodged and countered a few soldiers. His spider sense went off and it was about to warn him about a militia brute attacking from behind, but Batman swooped in and took out the brute by using a random generator nearby.
"Geez do you have to be so aggressive?", Peter asked as he continued to subdue the other soldiers with his webs. Both heroes took down all of them like it was nothing in the end.
"Thank God you're here.", Simon Stagg said gratefully as he got up.
Spider-Man walked up and helped Mr. Stagg get up. "Why were those guys after you?", asked Peter.
"I don't know. These animals just came in and started shooting.", Simon explained.
"They were collecting those cylinders. Why?", Batman stated trying to get answers from Mr. Stagg.
Mr. Stagg explained that what those "cylinders" they stole were called Nimbus generators. He later explained that they were a power cell that he's been developing in order to give clean power to the city.
Spider-Man thought, 'Sounds a lot like the arc reactor technology that Tony has. Good thing he's not here to sue'
"Where's Scarecrow?", Batman asked. Simon explained that he was on the second airship and was about to explain how to get in, but he stopped mid sentence when he started seeing Batman hold his forehead like he was getting a bad headache.
Spider-Man went to check on his partner, but just when he was about to place a hand on his shoulder his spider sense warned him of immediate danger. Batman out of nowhere threw a punch at his red and blue partner.
Peter was about to ask what was going on with his new pointy eared buddy, but immediately noticed something different about his face. His eyes were glowing green and veins appeared on his face. Before Spider-Man could theorize on what was happening the militia appeared and were about to take Mr. Stagg.
"Great now I've got to deal with these guys too", Peter complained a bit as he got into a fighting stance.
He took out some web bombs and threw them at the militia guards. Then the lenses on his mask squinted at his Dark Knight opponent. Batman charged in and threw a punch, Spidey dodged it then attempted to web his opponent's foot, but was caught and immediately tossed over the shoulder by Batman. He rolled for a bit, but regained his footing.
"Ok so going on offense isn't going to help. Switching to defense", Spider-Man muttered to himself in hopes to survive this attack.
Most of the militia guards broke free of the web restraints and tried to capture Simon Stagg while the spider was preoccupied. A web was shot behind Mr. Stagg, and then got yanked away from the soldier's grasp.
"Please keep me away from those hooligans.", Simon begged the Wall Crawler.
As Batman continued his attempt to attack Spider-Man, the latter tossed the CEO to the ceiling and webbed him up.
"Hang in there, baby", Peter quipped as he got back to fighting Batman and the militia soldiers.
'Ok. So Batman is acting weird, militia soldiers are after Simon Stagg, and I have to avoid both attackers. Great.', Spider-Man thought to himself.
Some militia soldiers tried to attack Spider-Man from behind, but didn't take into account his spider sense. He performed a backflip and web yanked the soldier and gave a right hook to the face knocking him out cold.
A militia soldier tried to pin Batman down and strangle him, but the Dark Knight was resisting. Web Slinger saw this happen and immediately shot a web line at the soldier, yanked him away and kicked him in the chest knocking him out.
He saw Batman slowly snapping out of his little episode and went to help him up, but kept his guard up in case it was a trick.
"Batman? What was that about?", He asked as he held up two fingers.
"Where's Stagg?", Asked the Dark Knight.
Spider-Man pointed to the ceiling spot where he webbed up Mr. Stagg, for safety.
"Could you please get me down? I'm beginning to feel uncomfortable", Simon begged.
"You free Simon Stagg and I'll go see if I can find a way to get to the other airship", Batman instructed.
"Hold it, are you not going to explain to me what that was all about earlier? You came at me like you were about to kill me!", Spider-Man exclaimed.
Batman turned his back on him and muttered, "I'll explain later." Spider-Man wanted to pry more into it, but he had a feeling that he'd be pushing his boundaries more than he should have, so he kept quiet.
"Don't feel too bad Web Head. He's always been like that even before you got here. You'll learn to get used to it", the ghost of Joker commented even though no one else could hear him.
After a brief moment of silence Simon Stagg begged for the heroes to get him out of the airship. Spider-Man volunteered to take Mr. Stagg back to the GCPD and keep him safe. Batman pressed the side of his cowl and spoke to Alfred about getting to the other airship.
Spider-Man grabbed Mr. Stagg and placed him in a piggyback position. "Hang on tight, I like to swing fast.", Peter commented before heading towards the way he came in.
Before that he called the GCPD to let Aaron Cash know that he's bringing Simon Stagg in for safety.
Outside the airship the Wall Crawler made a web safety harness and tied it around Simon. "This time you really need to hold on, and hopefully you don't get motion sickness.", Spider-Man explained in his half-joking voice.
As he dives down Mr. Stagg immediately holds on tight to the Arachnid hero and starts screaming. Spider-Man does his best not to laugh at Simon's girly screaming.
A few minutes go by and Spider-Man still hasn't arrived at the GCPD. 'I should add some web wings to my suit when I get back,Spider-Man noted mentally.
That's all for now. Sorry it was cut short. Please let me know what you thought of it.
