Doug Ross knocked on the door to Anspaugh's office.
"Come in," Anspaugh said.
Doug entered the office.
"What can I do for you Doug," Anspaugh asked.
"Actually," Doug said, "I'm not here for what you can do for me. I'm here because of what I can do for you."
"I'm not interested in a business deal if that's what you have in mind," Dr. Anspaugh said with a sigh.
"I'm going to give your family a part of me," Doug said, "I got my bone marrow tested and I am a full match to Scott."
Dr. Anspaugh sat up straight. He couldn't believe that Doug would be willing to do that. They were friendly sure, but Donald Anspaugh didn't quite consider Doug Ross a friend. There had even been times when he'd had to take Doug to task.
"So, the short story is that I'm going to donate my bone marrow to Scott."
"Are you serious," Donald asked tears of relief and Joy filling his eyes.
Doug nodded.
"If I were in your shoes I would want someone to come to my child's rescue. I have a son. I haven't seen him since he was born but-"
"Why," Anspaugh asked.
"His mother wanted nothing to do with me," Doug explained, "But I would do anything for anyone I love. So… that's the reason I'm doing it."
"Doug," Anspaugh said, "You are a good man"
He paused.
"And," he added, "A good friend. Anyone who is going out of his way for me like that is a man I am proud to call my friend."
"Thank you, Dr. Anspaugh," he said, "Now I know we have to talk about this morning but can it wait? I'm donating my bone marrow in the morning and-"
"Forget about that," Dr. Anspaugh replied, "I'll see you tomorrow."
