NOT QUITE THE BEGINNING

It was a nice day.

All days had been nice, ever since the creation of 'days' at least. It never really rained in their little area, but the clouds massing east of Ponyville suggested that the very first thunderstorm was on its way.. And it was going to be a big one.

The Pegasus of Sweet Apple Acres put her wings over her head to shield herself from the first drops of rain.

"I'm terribly sorry," she said politely. "What was it you were saying?"

"I said, that one went down like a lead balloon." Said the Draconequus.

"Oh.. Yes, quite right." said the Pegasus, whose name was Fluttershy.

"I think it was a bit of an over-reaction, frankly," the Draconequus said after a few moments of silence. "I mean... First offense and everything. I don't see the issue with knowing the difference between good and evil, anyway. Could'a just let 'em off with a warning," he shrugged.

"It must be bad," reasoned Fluttershy, her voice was trembling a little as she was getting progressively more and more worried, "otherwise, you wouldn't have gotten involved."

"They just said, Go to Ponyville and make some trouble," replied the Draconequus, whose name was Grogar, although he was thinking of changing it. Grogar, he thought, was not him whatsoever.

"Yeah.. But you're a Draconequus! I'm not sure if you're even.. C-Capable of doing the right thing," said Fluttershy, "It's down to your basic.. Y'know, nature... Nothing personal, y' understand.." Her voice dropped down to a whisper as she said the last sentence. She worried that she might come across as too rude or too blunt with the Draconequus.

"You've got to admit, though, it's a bit metatheatrical," Grogar pointed out, "I mean, pointing out something that you shouldn't do, something chaotic that might destroy the whole town is like writing 'DO NOT WRECK HAVOC' in the sky in big bold letters with a bright and colorful blimp. Not exactly subtle, is it? I mean, at least throw it out there elusively. Makes you wonder what She's really planning, hm?"

Fluttershy stood there, scratching the back of her neck with her hoof as she pondered what he said for a moment.
"...Yes, but best not to speculate... Really," She said, "You cannot second-guess i-ineffability, now. I always say that there is Right, and there is Wrong. If you do Wrong when you're supposed to do Right, you must be punished.. And.. Vice-versa, it's Our rules,"

The Pegasus and Draconequus stood there in awkward silence, watching the raindrops slowly begin to fall as the storm got closer to them.

Grogar took a few glances over at Fluttershy, taking note of her nervous tics.

Finally, Grogar asked her, "Didn't you have a little necklace?"

Fluttershy's eyes widened and she looked down at her neck, "O-Oh.. Well,"

"It looked very cute, I thought.." Grogar droned on, disregarding what Fluttershy was saying.

"Uhm, y-yeah.. True.."

"Shiny as well, and the charm just mwah! chef's kiss. The pink too, compliments your - you!"

"IF YOU MUST KNOW!" Fluttershy interjected loudly, sweat-beads forming on her forehead. "...I lost it," she later said a bit more coherently and slowly.

Grogar raised his eyebrow at her, smirking softly. A small chuckle left his lips.

"I don't have any idea where it went," Fluttershy quickly said, almost in a justifying type of tone, "I was just flying around, guarding Sweet Apple Acres, then BOOM! I lost my necklace, and.. A-And.. I tried looking for it but then I said 'whatever, it's lost now and there's no way to find it in that bundle of trees' and that's really.. I-it," She gave Grogar a worried grin.

"I do hope I didn't do the wrong thing here, losing something that precious to me," Fluttershy looked down, her face turned solemn.

"Mm, not sure if it's even possible for you to do evil," said Grogar sarcastically, Fluttershy looked at him and chuckled, not even noticing the sarcasm.

"Oh goodness, I hope so," she said softly, "I really do hope so. It's been bugging me all afternoon,"

They looked forward, examining the rain falling.

"Neh, I keep wondering," Grogar began, still looking forward, "If the whole.. Chaos thing was even a good idea. A Draconequus could get into real trouble doing the sane and rational thing." He nudged the Pegasus, "Would be funny if we both got it wrong, huh? If I did the Good and you did the Bad."

Fluttershy looked away, stifling a giggle. Then she looked at him with a more serious face.

"No, no. Not at all!" she finally said, "That's.. Preposterous!"

Grogar looked forward again, sighing.

"...No," said Grogar, all amusement drained from his tone, "S'pose not."

The pair looked up at the sky, the dark-grey clouds were starting to loom over them more and more. Thunder growled from the sky as the ponies took cover in their homes, cowering from the storm.

Fluttershy scooted closer to Grogar, extending her wings above his head, ultimately shielding him from the rain.

It was going to be a dark and stormy night.
