Chapter 8
Lt. Colonel Charles O'Neill decided to take some time to get to know his baby half sister while he was currently stuck in the other reality. After being cleared in the infirmary he made his way to the commissary and found Olivia sitting and eating a meal with her two friends, Kyle and Chloe. He asked to join the teens.
"Can I sit with you?" he asked Olivia.
"Sure," she agreed. She watched as he sat down with his tray of food. She noticed his choice is food reflected what Jack would have chosen. "I see you like lemon pie, too."
"That and pumpkin." he agreed.
Kyle asked, "What is the SGC like in your reality, Colonel?"
"Lot like it is here." he told him. "Same set up. I heard you guys had found Atlantis and had it on Earth and your program is public knowledge."
"It is," Chloe agreed as she found the new Colonel very handsome and twice her age. She liked older men and saw nothing wrong with a younger woman dating a man twice her age.
Charlie stated, "We are still fighting the Goa'uld. We did make contact with the Asgard but they weren't very friendly towards us. Kind of avoided us. I'm not sure if they are alive or dead to be honest. We are friends with the Tok'ra and Jaffa. Nox will help us out once in a while."
Chloe countered, "That's like the opposite of what it is here. The Nox avoid us but the Asgard our best friends."
"Nox don't like to get involved but they will if they are pushed." he told her.
Olivia asked, "What about you? Are you married? Have any kids? Do I have a nephews and nieces? I always wanted a brother."
"Not married." he shook his head. "I was married. She cheated on me. I thought my son was mine but turns out he wasn't mine. She cut me off from him, married this other guy and we went though a nasty divorce. She cleaned me out. She broke my mother's heart because she thought she had a grandson but she didn't. She died last year of cancer. I think it was all just too much on her. I'm single and have no intention of ever getting married again." he sounded rather bitter.
Olivia winced, "I'm sorry that happened to you. That's awful. What about your team?"
He let out a heavy sigh, "Not the best. They didn't do anything with that mirror that sent me here. I kind of doubted they would come after me. It wasn't the SG-1 that Colonel Mitchell had. His team was pretty good. They made a lot of headway. My team…not so much. It's me and three guys. None want to be there."
Kyle asked, "Why not? SG-1 is the premier team."
He laughed, "It's the team where everyone gets killed. No one wants it. It's jinxed. Everyone wants on the Special Forces teams. No one wants SG-1. It's a terrible team. They put me on it to add someone who is Special Forces. The rest of the team are just geeks and gamers."
Olivia asked, "Tell me about my mom in your reality, Charlie? Did she really marry Rodney?"
He nodded, "Your mom is one of the few who know what they are doing. Her Rodney basically save the day all the time. They are like the dynamic duo. I'm just some jarhead with a rifle guarding their behinds. I'm the son of the guy who died on the first dial out. Kind of the bottom of a barrel for them." He laughed, "I can't believe she is married to my dad in this reality. I wonder what happened to my mom. I died as a kid here so…" he shrugged unsure.
"She's alive." Olivia told him. "She's retired and lives alone in a senior assisted living home. Dad tried to visit her but she wouldn't see him."
"She is alone?" he asked concerned.
She nodded, "She lost you and then divorced our dad. She never got remarried and a parent who loses a child…well, there is no word for that. Dad keeps your picture on a stand along with your little league cap and your baseball glove. He would never let me play with that glove. It was yours. He memorialized it."
"I wonder if they will let me see my mom?" he asked.
She agreed, "Why not? She does know about the program and about alternate universes. I think they would be great and if you want, I can come with you. I never met her. I would like to meet her."
"I'll ask." he agreed. He then figured, "I could be here a while, huh?"
She nodded, "You may never go back. Even if we get the mirror from Euryale, I don't think you can go back."
Chloe asked, "Can you see his reality, Olivia?"
She replied, "It's a little hazy but when you said they didn't come after you, Charlie…I saw a picture in my mind of them blowing the mirror up. I think they thought it killed you."
He sighed, "Those dumb fucks would blow it up." Charlie was old school when it came to the military. He was Generation X and was rather annoyed by the younger generations as well as the older.
Chloe stated, "You can stay here. You died here as a child so no chance of cascade failure. You can stay and be fine, Colonel." She smiled and batted her eyes at him.
He asked, "Something in your eye?"
"Only you," she sighed at him as her older man crush took hold.
Kyle rolled his eye and shook his head. He idolized men like Charlie. He wanted be that tough solider who commanded respect.
Olivia figured if Charlie spent time with Jack and his mother is would ease his pain from the divorce. She suggested, "Next time we go to the cabin, you should come with us, Charlie."
"Cabin?" he asked. "That's right…dad had a cabin with a pond. I kind of remember it. Mom sold it after he died. Too much for her to take care of. He still has it?"
She nodded, "Come with us."
"If you insist." he agreed.
Chloe asked, "Can I come too?" She excused, "You are like my sister, Livy."
"I suppose." she agreed. She looked to Kyle, "You can come too, Kyle."
"Appreciate that." he agreed for he had no plans. He asked Charlie, "Colonel Mitchell. Was he Colonel Cameron Mitchell?"
He nodded, "Yeah! You know him. Great guy. I guess he was married to Dr. Carter first. They split because of some space pirate."
Kyle nodded with a grin, "He's my uncle." He looked to Olivia, "My uncle was married to your mom. I told you they were a thing."
Olivia rolled her eyes and then asked, "Was the space private named Vala?"
"Yeah," he recalled. "She beat Colonel Mitchell up."
She gave a heavy sigh, "Sounds familiar."
He asked, "You got a space pirate too?"
She nodded, "Beat up Uncle Daniel. Left him for Mitchell."
He figured, "So, she got Colonel Mitchell in both realities. Maybe it was met to be?"
Olivia sighed, "I suppose. In one reality they had different names. She was a…like…an intergalactic police officer and he was a NASA pilot lost in space. I see this weird ship that's like half alive and half ship. Kind of like a farscape kind of thing."
Chloe asked, "You think there could be realities so different that you have a different name and you can be someone else?"
She nodded, "I think so."
"Wow!" she sat thinking of the implications.
Meanwhile
Jack walked out of the briefing to get something to eat. He found he had trouble controlling his new found ability of mind reading. He wished he could turn it off and not hear the constant voices in his head. He walked into the commissary to have lunch with Charlie and Olivia. He spied them sitting at the table and walked over to see how they were doing.
"How you kids doing?" he asked the small group.
He then heard Kyle's thought. "We're not kids." Kyle then spoke, "Good sir."
Jack looked to Chloe who smiled at him. He could heard thoughts as well. "Damn, he's gorgeous. Went from being that creepy old man to a male model. And his kids are gorgeous too. Must be genetic." Chloe then stated, "We're good, sir."
Jack decided to test his ability and focused on Charlie's thoughts. He heard "How do I ask to see my mom without seeming pushy?"
Jack then focused on Olivia. He listened to her in his mind. "What is it, Dad?" She could tell he was in her head.
He didn't speak but instead decided to test the ability. "You know I'm trying to read your mind?"
"Yes," she nodded without actually speaking.
He squinted, "Raise your right hand if you are hearing me."
She raised her right hand and spoke aloud, "I can hear you, Dad. I can do that too. We can talk back and forth mentally."
Chloe gasped, "Whoa! You and the General are telepathic now?"
"I guess." she shrugged.
Jack asked, "How do you block it out? I heard nothing but chatter the entire way here. Trust me, some of this I do not want to hear."
"I found if I focus on a task or single conversation I can block it out. Kind of like selective hearing." she explained.
Kyle asked, "Can you hear what we are thinking, General?"
"Yes," he confirmed. "You're right, you are not a kid. Chloe," he looked to the girl, "creepy old man?" he then looked to Charlie, "If you want to see your mom just say the word. You can see her anytime."
Charlie smiled, "I would like that dad."
Chloe put her head in her hands and cried. "Did you hear everything I thought?"
"That I am gorgeous!" Jack nodded with a smirk.
Olivia assured, "That's nothing, Dad. She has the hots for me, Kyle and Charlie."
Jack asked, "What?"
Olivia explained, "She likes everyone."
Kyle perked up, "Chloe has the hots for me?"
Olivia nodded and looked at him, "She's got this weird fantasy about the three of us in a relationship."
He asked excited, "A three way? I could go for that."
Olivia sighed, "I'm not into that kind of thing. I just wish Thor noticed me."
Chloe asked, "Thor?"
"He sees me as a little kid." she miffed.
Jack asked, "You can read Thor's mind?"
She nodded, "Can't you?"
"I haven't tried." he confessed. "I just heard your mother go on about Rodney in that briefing."
Kyle mentioned, "Apparently they are a hot item in the Colonel's world."
"Not helping Mitchell." Jack told him. "Rodney gets on her nerves a bit."
Charlie nodded, "They have this weird love/hate relationship. When they fight…boy…look out. I guess the makeup sex must be…"
Jack stated, "Not helping Charlie."
"Sorry dad." he chuckled.
Jack stated, "I'm going to get something to eat. Stay here…I want to spend some time with you, Charlie."
"I will." he agreed.
As Jack walked to the line to get some food Daniel walked in with Teal'c and Sam.
Daniel sounded kind of down, "I was hoping that second cup of coffee would do something for me but it only seemed to have affected Jack."
Sam figured, "That's probably a good thing."
"How's that?" he asked her.
"I don't need both of your reading my mind." she confessed. She was still reeling from the news. "Can you imagine me with Rodney? What was I thinking? Why him? I would have married Cam before him."
"Maybe you should ask Charlie what he knows." Daniel suggested. He found Jack approach them.
"Campers!" Jack greeted.
Daniel asked, "Are you going to read my mind?"
"I just asked Livy how to block it out. Trust me, Daniel. This whole reading minds thing is not what it's cracked up to be. You would be amazed at just how many think about body fluids, body functions and how much they hate their job." he replied.
Sam stated, "I don't hate my job. I hate Rodney being my boss and taking over my office."
Daniel stated, "I love my job. Just not big on the whole worship me or die thing we tend to run into."
Teal'c added, "My job would be boring without my teammates."
Sam blushed and smiled, "Thank you Teal'c. That made my day."
"So what did Livy say to do to turn it off, Jack?" Daniel wondered.
"She said to focus on something else." he reported. "I can talk to her mentally now. Like we were having a conversation but our lips were not moving."
Sam spoke up, "Telepathy! You and Livy can communicate telepathically now, Jack?"
He nodded, "I guess."
Daniel sighed, "And I got nothing." He admitted, "If I could have that ability with Livy can you imagine how much time we could save in translating and how much work we could get done." He got to the line and grabbed a tray and coffee cup. He was feeling nearly cheated as Jack reported what he experienced. He took the second cup of life water tainted coffee to enhance his abilities to help Olivia take on two sister who seemed to have unearthly powers and yet, he experienced nothing.
As Daniel grabbed the coffee cup from the stack the man standing behind him accidentally bumped into him as he greeted a friend. The move jarred Daniel's arm and the coffee cup slipped from his hand. He instinctively reacted to try and grab the falling cup but was not fast enough. Right before the cup was about to hit the floor it stopped and seemed to float just above the floor before reversing course and flying into Daniel's out reached hand. He stood puckering in thought at what happened.
Sam, Teal'c and Jack all saw the event. The three stood speechless for a moment.
"Um…Daniel." Jack started. "Did that cup just fly into your hand?"
He held the empty cup before him, "It did."
Sam figured, "I think the coffee worked."
Teal'c agreed, "Appears so."
"I got telekinesis." Daniel figured. "The second cup would affect the consumer differently. Jack got telepathy and I got telekinesis." He looked to his friends. "I can move things with my mind."
Jack looked at Sam, "Sure you don't want a second cup, dear? We got one canteen left."
She insisted, "We need that water for testing."
