The blonde shinobi can't help the slight chuckle that comes out before he grabs Raphtalia's hand and walks toward his redheaded companion while giving Lesty a charming smile, "sorry for interrupting your talk with Malty, but we gotta go look at the Dragon Glass before we leave the city."

Lesty's cheeks become slightly tinted pink when she sees his smile but she quickly turns to Malty with a frown, "you're leaving the castle town?"

"Yes, I suggested we do some leveling in a labyrinth before the wave. Why?"

"Lord Naruto," Raphtalia suddenly speaks up with a bit of panic and points towards a group of buildings, "that's the village of Lute! The monsters are heading in its direction!"

The blonde frowns when he sees Raphtalia is right and it gets even bigger when he sees the other heroes heading off in the opposite direction, likely to go find the boss of the wave. "Well shit…slight change of plans Tamamo, come out."

"Okay~"

In a puff of smoke, the fox demoness summons herself from the seal just as Naruto goes into sage mode and creates two clones, both also in sage mode.

"Okay, Tamamo go with Raphtalia and my clone and wipe all the monsters in the village and protect the civilians there. Malty and I will find the boss and end this wave as soon as possible."

Tamamo goes into a stretch with a wide grin on her face, "Oooh sounds like I get to stretch my legs a bit~"

"Prioritize saving the civilians first before anything else," Naruto reminds with a roll of his eyes before the demoness could get too excited and ignore their primary objective. "Once everyone is out of the village you can go wild."

"Oh fiineee. I'll protect the innocent and all that," she mutters as her form glows bright for a few seconds before the light dims down to show her now in the form of a fox the size of a bear. "Hop on Raphy, we got some humans to save."

A bit surprised at the new form of the nine-tailed fox, Raphtalia nods nonetheless and settles on the demoness' back, marveling slightly at how soft her orange fur is. "Okay Lady Tamamo, I'm ready."

Tamamo's ears perk up and a wide grin stretches across her vulpine features, "Oh? 'Lady Tamamo'? I like the sound of that~"

Naruto sweatdrops at the look Tamamo is sporting as Malty climbs onto his back and can't help but shake his head, "great, now she's gonna get a huge ego boost from that."

Now with the redhead firmly in place on his back, the original looks to both Tamamo and Raphtalia, "alright you two, I'll see you once Malty and I take care of the boss."

Seeing the two of them nod, Naruto's eyes immediately take on a golden color and its pupils become crossed while the orange markings denoting his use of sage mode fade as Malty instinctively holds on tighter while she gives Raphtalia a smile of her own, "good luck Raphtailia, Tamamo."

"You too Malty."

"Right back atcha princess."

With that, the party separates.

Naruto and Malty taking off into the sky, much to the shock of both the redhead and Raphtalia while said brunette holds on for dear life as Tamamo jumps from the cliff and races through the trees.

Soon after several explosions are heard overhead, courtesy of the two clones Naruto left in sage mode, targeting the monsters as they fall from the swirls in the sky that summon them.

"Look alive Raphy. We're coming up on the village now and there are a few monsters already there."

Turning back from the explosions in the sky, the demi-human pulls her focus back to the task at hand, seeing the fact they have arrived at the village of Lute far faster than she expected. But deciding to save her surprise for later, she unsheathes her sword and prepares for battle.

To the villagers of Lute it must've been a sight only seen in a storybook.

There it was, a demi human woman riding a large fox with nine tails, swinging her sword at each monster that passes by as if she was a horse-mounted knight.

But what really had the villager's eyes bulging and staring in awe was when said fox saved a group of them by opening its maw and spewing purplish-blue flames that turns the hoard of goblins to ash.

"Is everyone alright?" Raphtalia asks as she slices through a bee-like monster that managed to fly over Tamamo's flames, "please follow us, we'll lead you to a safe place!"

Though thoroughly confused at the current situation, the villagers luckily aren't the type to look a gift horse in the mouth and can tell she is in fact there to save them even if she was riding a creature they had never seen before.

A man steps up, seemingly the leader of those left, "we will go with you. But where are we going and how will we get past all of the monsters?"

"You can leave that to me."

Tamamo suddenly speaks up, causing the whole group to reel back in surprise.

"It talks?"

"Is it a divine beast of some sort?"

"Amazing."

Preening a bit at being referred to as divine, Tamamo looks up at her rider, "Raphy, I want you to cast that new illusion magic you acquired over the whole group. Think you can do that?"

"Yes Lady Tamamo, I can handle it."

As it turns out Raphtalia had an affinity for both light and dark magic. It only took this long for her to discover it was because the cruel man she was a slave under had been firmly against her branching out, making sure to use her slave mark if she ever tried.

"Oh guiding light and blinding darkness, as the companion of the shield hero I ask thee. Hide my surroundings so that my enemies cannot peer through its veil." All Zweite Hide Mirage!

The air around the group of villagers shimmers after her call before taking on a dark tint, a sign that her illusion was successful.

Taking a breath now that she's done casting her magic, she looks to the villagers with a smile, "we should be okay to move now, the illusion I cast will keep us invisible to the monsters."

The villagers look at the shimmering dome in awe and hope blooms within their faces as the same man from before bows in gratitude. "Thank you, Lady Hero! We are in your care."

"E-Eh? H-Hero?"

Tamamo chuckles at the huge blush the girl gets at the village chief's words as they guide the people out of the village and to a nearby mountain with luckily little to no resistance from monsters. All the while explosions of blue light litter the sky along with two golden figures that fly through the air.

"Looks like his clones are keeping the monsters at bay."

"That's a person Lady Tamamo?" The village chief asks in wonder as he and the other villagers watch the light show above them in awe.

"Yup, that's Naruto. I guess you could say he's my summoner of sorts," the fox demon replies as Raphtalia climbs down from her back.

"He's also the Shield Hero," Raphtalia adds with a smile as she too watches Naruto's clones take care of the monsters as they spawn, "he made copies of himself to prevent more monsters from reaching the village. His original self and Malty should be handling the boss of the wave about now."

Of course, as if fate had deemed it, the sky fades away from its red color to its original blue with the sun shining brightly.

The entire population of the village turns to face Raphtalia with wide eyes as if she could predict the future while Tamamo giggles behind her, "Looks like you were right Raphy."

-Naruto and Malty, Earlier-

"Oh dear inferno, strike at those who block my beloved's path." Zweite Fire Squall!

From Naruto's back, Malty shoots a barrage of fireballs at the oncoming swarm of monster bees.

After leaving the safety of the nearby villagers to Raphtalia and Tamamo, the two flew off in the direction Naruto's senses felt the boss was. Though there were some minor annoyances in the way in the form of various flying monsters that the royal redhead had to take down, the two were still covering ground faster than the other three heroes due to the speed of his flight.

"What the…is that a lion with the head of a goat and lizard on its shoulders?"

Naruto stops midair and stares dumbfounded at the huge monster below him and Malty. "That thing could give the animals in the forest of death a run for their money."

"It seems like that's the boss of the wave beloved. If we kill it the wave will stop."

"Let's take care of it then."

Dropping down to the forest floor, the two pull their swords and immediately split, Malty going to the left and Naruto heading right.

"Raging flame, gather upon my blade and strike at my enemy." Fire Slash!

Using her magic, Malty sets her sword ablaze and swings it through the air, sending a flaming slash at the wave boss to get its attention.

The large monster roars and faces Malty's direction giving Naruto the opportunity to jump onto its back and stab his two ninjato in.

The monster once again roars in pain but it soon turns to agony as Naruto channels wind natured chakra into his blades, increasing their length and sharpening them to an immense degree before bringing them up to sever the other two heads.

This was the sight the heroes and their party members witnessed as they finally arrived in the clearing. Utter shock on their faces as Naruto jumps high into the air while sheathing his two swords.

"Malty send it up!"

"As the second Princess of the Melromarc Kingdom and lover of the hero wielding the shield, I beseech thee, winds, heed my call!" Zwiete Tornado!

Malty raises her hands upward as her second magic type, wind, is used to summon a tornado that sends the monster upward toward Naruto who had both of his arms outstretched while gathering chakra in them.

Naruto calls out to the new skill he's recently acquired as a large orange shield of magical power appears above him.

The other heroes are left dumbstruck at the sight.

Not only were they late to find the boss of the wave but the shield hero, the one who was supposed to have the lowest attack stat of the four cardinal heroes, managed to effortlessly take out the boss with ease using a skill neither of them recognized.

Heedless of them and landing on the ground with a crouch, Naruto is almost immediately tackled around the waist by an ecstatic Malty, "oh how wonderful beloved, you got it in one hit!"

The three heroes watch as Malty gets on Naruto's back and before either could say a thing, the blonde begins to fly up, stunning them once again before he takes off toward the nearby village.

"H-He can fly?" Lesty asks in wonder as she looks up in utter disbelief. The words Malty had spoken to her last night echoing in her mind.

"Is that some sort of shield ability?" Ren asks with narrowed eyes as the two disappear from view.

"I doubt that. He must have used some kind of cheat code," Itsuki adds with a frown, "maybe Princess Malty gave it to him."

Motoyasu frowns with narrowed eyes as well, "more of him using that manipulation shield the king told us about huh? What scum."
