A Muggle Through Time
When Beatrix Somerild woke up that morning, she had a little bit of dread surrounding her upcoming school camping trip in the Forest of Dean. Against her best interests she spent the night listening to spooky stories about skinwalkers and unexplained stairways. She showered, and got ready for her day, hoping routine would lessen her worries. Yet her sense of dread only grew. Trying her hardest to push it aside, she packed her bag with extra socks and underwear. These kinds of things always filled her with a sort of anxiety anyway, so she assumed it was her normal level of anxiety over forced social interaction. Grabbing her current read off of her bedside table, she surveyed her room while making a mental checklist. She would only be gone over the weekend, but she still felt like she was missing something. What she couldn't possibly know, was that in a few short hours, she would be the missing something.
The goal had been to find somewhere far enough away from her classmates to put up her tent, so she wouldn't hear them playing music all night, but close enough to them that she wouldn't be scared of whatever noises she would hear in the dark. The result was... she was lost.
'Shit.' I mumbled under my breath, coming up to a clearing up ahead, I figured I might as well set up my tent here. When or if anyone noticed that I was missing, it was probably better to be in one place than to keep wandering around. Possibly further away from everyone else as I went on my merry way through the forest. Unfortunately, I was about to be as far as I could get.
Stepping into the clearing and enjoying the rare sunny English day, it took me a bit longer than it should have to notice that there was suddenly a tent several yards away. It was the smell of the campfire that really drew my attention. Finally noticing the camp already set up, I was relieved to see a young woman with her back to me. They could surely help me get pointed in the right direction.
"Hello?" I called out to her as I approached. I don't think she heard me, so I said it again a little louder as I got closer. This seemed to have startled her, as she jumped and whirled around to face me. Her curly chestnut hair bouncing around her shoulders, brown eyes wide as she stared at me, a small object glowing softly in her hands.
"Get back!" She shouted at me, taking a step back from me herself. The object in her hands started glowing brighter, seeming to vibrate with light and energy in her hands. I stumbled backwards, tripping over my own feet. The last thing I saw was a blinding light distorting the air surrounding us, before me and the woman disappeared from the Forest of Dean altogether.
